I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,
Windows 10 OneDrive seems to only want to operate as your primary file storage repository with your PC being a potential backup for OneDrive. I do not want to use it in that manner. How do I use OneDrive to simply copy selected files and folders from my PC to OneDrive without any Syncing enabled? If I deselect 'Sync files and folders' in OneDrive settings, it seems to disable the OneDrive link in File Explorer. Ideally I would like to have a backup setup to sync OneDrive with my PC so that OneDrive mirrors my PC...not the other way around. However, I would be happy with just figuring out how to copy files from PC to OneDrive using File Explorer.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

A:How do I prevent Onedrive from syncing all my files, folders etc?

Hi,
if you save/place your files in the "OneDrive" folder structure, it will be sync'd up to OneDrive.
If you instead, save/place files outside of the OneDrive folder structure, those won't be sync'd.Don

Running MultiPoint Server 2011. I want to make it accept wireless connections, so, I could create a hotspot via 3G and get it back online should the main connection drop in a critical moment. As it happens, I have a TP-WN422G v2 laying around. It seems to take Win7 drivers just fine. Says it's up to date when I try to install Win8 drivers.

I've enabled Wireless LAN Service from Server Manager. The WLAN AutoConfig service is running.

Problem is, the device is enabled, but not connected.

Other devices can use TP-WN422G to connect just fine, so, it's not a router issue. Could be a driver issue, but then would it show TP-WN422G enabled and with full bars?

What steps should I take to resolve this issue?

Also, I'm not married to the TP-WN422G. If someone knows another solution that would serve my purpose, please let me know.

I'm using Windows 10 (Creator's edition) on my PC. Whenever I try to synch OneDrive on my PC with the cloud it gives me error messages relating to all the "desktop.<g class="gr_ gr_19 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling
ins-del multiReplace" data-gr-id="19" id="19">ini</g>" files that it can not process.
When I click on the error messages it just says to delete these files, but it does not say where they are (exactly) and how to do that.
I emailed (there is no call center or chat support) OneDrive about this over a week ago and have had no response.
What is this file type and why can't it be synched? And how do I get rid of it so that the synching will proceed?
Looking for help.

don't use OneDrive, it is the most unreliable cloud service I've used.

It caused me to lose a lot of my data thinking they were synced, but when I try to double click on a file, it seems to have taken all the files and put them on the cloud so my computer neds to redownload the file taking ages

and no I did not choose to make the files available only offline, it is one buggy piece of software and a failed attempt from MS to get into this field

I recently bought a new tablet, a dual-boot Android/Win 10 system. My problem is that the OneDrive icon, which is supposed to be on the taskbar, is not there. Supposedly, the only way to set up selective sync is to right-click that icon and go from there. The tablet has very limited storage, so I really do need to sync the folders I need for working mobile.

Microsoft and the manufacturer are exchanging pointed fingers. No help at all. I would simply reinstall Win 10 from the disk I burned after upgrading my desktop and using the tablet's Win 10 key, but I don't yet have enough confidence in the Win 10 installer to do that. The purpose of the reinstall would be to encourage the icon to show up; overkill, it seems to me at this point. The OneDrive app isn't available in Win 10 because the functionality is supposedly baked into the OS.

The question is whether anyone can show me a different route into the settings to make selective sync work. With the multiple ways to do almost anything in Windows, I'm hoping that this task is no exception. Because the cloud icon isn't there to right-click on, how else could I navigate to the right place to start?

I can kludge a solution by opening OneDrive in a browser window and upload/download files from there to work on. But I don't always have Wifi available. In File Explorer, the OneDrive folder is empty.

Maybe this will be resolved by the end of the year, because MS has promised that it will restore the f... Read more

I just started working with my new Surface 3 and wanted to use OneDrive like I do Dropbox. I?m having a problem with the syncing between my PC and my Surface.
Any activity on my Surface automatically updates OneDrive on my PC like a charm. However, any activity on my PC does not update my Surface unless I do a manual sync on the PC.
I have tried just about everything I can find that others have suggested on the web. Nothing seems to work - not even Microsoft's troubleshooter program. I've run that program and reset OneDrive many times, but nothing works and no errors are indicated.

The only thing Microsoft can suggest is to do a refresh on my PC.

Hello everybody
I've been in this trouble for one or two months now, and I can't find anything helping me, so if you could help me, it would be appreciated at a point you just can't imagine ^^
Basically, I started using SkyDrive two years ago, when I installed 8 on my laptop. It was great and very useful since I took it everywhere and had some serious stuff updated everyday that I didn't want to lose at all, so I synced every night.
With the time, I bought another computer and a Windows Phone, and now OneDrive is more useful than ever. But.
On my laptop, everything's working properly. I mean, if I update a file or anything, it will be updated online. No problem. Idem on Windows Phone. But the desktop computer is a bit angry with OneDrive, or at least looks like.
I can't tell you from what the problem comes but... it simply can't sync anything. It tells me I'm not connected to Internet while I definitely am (yeah I'm not totally stupid you know).
I resetted OneDrive, already.
I disabled FireWall, already.
Always the same thing, looks connected but is not actually, and after a few minutes of "Looking for changes", tells me that I'm not connected with an yellow exclamation mark.
My only idea is that i've been using a software called GlassWire, to analyse my network connection (which has never been good, but it was kind of... cool, I guess), and to get the best ping I could in Counter Strike, I always enabled the firewall for OneDrive and MegaSync and every software tha... I have a general question about how Onedrive works in the background. I am trying to get my family to save everything to the Onedrive. They are so use to going to the documents folder and saving. I know that you do not have the option to sync specific file folders. It is frustrating that you have to save the file in two separate locations for it to save to my local hdd and to my Onedrive. My thought/idea was to delete the preset folders in the user folder i.e. Documents, Pictures, Videos, and ect. Then recreate the same folders on my Onedrive and then copy shortcuts back to the user folder. This will ensure that even if my family forgets to save it to the Onedrive it will automatically goes there.
- When you save to the Onedrive is that a physical copy that is saved on your machine i.e. HDD?
- Does any one suggest a workflow that will allow my files on my computer to be identical to my Onedrive?
Thanks again for any suggestions!

Somewhere in the last few 8.1 updates, OneDrive sync has changed. It now does not autosync after updating/adding files in the OneDrive folder. Before, it would act like dropbox. It would autosync the folders almost immediately (usually within a few seconds). Now it apparently does not autosync at all. I just did a test of updating a file and deleting a folder. When I hover over the OneDrive icon in the tray, it displays "Files are up to date, last synced 10 minutes ago". If I click on the icon, and then click on sync, it will sync immediately and correctly. It is like whatever service that monitors the OneDrive folder is either not running or has been removed by Microsoft. Has anyone else noticed this problem, and if so, is there a fix? I can use OneDrive, but I have to remember to do a manual sync before I look for the changes on another computer.

I recently purchased a new laptop (Dell XPS) with Windows 10. My OneDrive account has 1TB of storage and I copied 137GB and 1.1mm files into it.

It looks like much of the data isn't syncing at all. The icons for the larger folders all have the "sync" icon on them, but no files are showing up in the online view and the OneDrive store app shows that nothing is pending upload.

Interesting the high level OneDrive icon shows a green checkmark.

I looked in the event viewer for logs, but no luck. I've also addressed all files with invalid characters. I'm sure there are some files that are more than 255 characters, but certainly not all of them.

Any tips on what to try next?

Hi all,

I downgraded back to Win 8.1 yesterday (using an image backup), as there aren't any new Bootcamp drivers for my old Mac, and life without proper GPU support is a bit frustrating...

Anyway, as my OneDrive is overflowing, I decided to sync everything down to disk, then move it, so as to clear my cloud storage out. The first problem I encountered was that I could neither open nor remove a folder called Music inside the SkyDrive folder on my box. (Yes, the folder is still using the old name. My computer started life running Win XP, I think...) All attempts to take ownership in order to gain access rights failed (including starting an elevated prompt via psexec.exe). I finally fixed that by deleting the folder online - the change got synced down.

I rebooted my laptop, and I have had an exclamation mark over OneDrive's tray icon since:

(The tooltip now reads "resuming", cf below...)

When I selected the context menu, I selected the entry to continue syncing. The tooltip on the icon then read "resuming". The context menu now looks like this:

As you can see, the entry to resume syncing got greyed out after I clicked on it.

However, there is no sign that anything is being synced. The exclamation mark on the tray icon doesn't disappear, the context menu doesn't revert to "pause syncing" and - most importantly - when I try to move a copy of a file from the local SkyDrive folder, I get the following error message, telling me that the file is on... I just got Windows 10. I've been using the cloud backup/folder syncing service Jungle Disk on Windows 7 for a while. I'm not very happy with Jungle Disk... no end of bugs and problems. Because Microsoft is pushing OneDrive so hard with Windows 10, I thought I would ask a question about it.

Here are three features I like about Jungle Disk, and I would like to know if OneDrive provides them. Also, if you know of other cloud backup/syncing services that might be a little more stable than Jungle Disk, let me know.

(1) A lot of control and options about what files to backup/sync, how many versions to keep, etc. I don't want a "push one button" solution.

(2) Syncing with local storage. I can work locally if I want to, and then when I next connect to the internet my folder is merged with the network storage. Syncing happens practically in real time, so you always have several not very old versions available immediately after a mistake.

(3) Traditional daily backups that give a form of protection from cryptolocker. My large files are vulnerable to cryptolocker... I don't sync those because I can't afford to pay for the storage of many versions, plus the bandwidth to sync them in real time would be prohibitive. I do automated daily backups to local drives, but those are connected 24/7 so if cryptolocker strikes, it will lock those too. The solution is a form of daily backup with Jungle Disk that stores just a few old versions of every file and can't be accessed by cryp... Read more

Hello all,

I've been searching for the last couple of weeks and haven't exactly found what I am looking for--I may need a third party app, but we shall see. I have two computers--a desktop and a laptop, both running Windows 10 Pro. My desktop's storage is basically bottomless, but my laptop's storage is much more limited (256 GB). I'm looking for a syncing solution that will mirror selected folders and files with my desktop's local Documents/Pictures/Videos/etc. folders into those on my laptop. When Windows Live Mesh was around, I used that utility to do exactly what I wanted (why did you eliminate it Microsoft?!?). Now that I have an Office 365 subscription, I'm hoping to mirror all of my desktop's Documents/Pictures/Videos/etc. folders to OneDrive, as well as selectively mirror certain folders down to my laptop. From what I gathered so far, files synced from OneDrive wind up in my C:\users\<username>\OneDrive\ folder--not exactly what I want. I've also found posts on creating directory junctions to folders in the OneDrive folder, but I haven't seen any that create a junction at the topmost special Users folder (Documents/Pictures/Videos/etc.)

Any thoughts on what I want to do? Does that make any sense at all? The exciting thing is that once I figure out my solution, I need to figure out how to apply it to my wife's setup--which is the same, except for her desktop is running Mac OS X (but she has a Windows laptop).

Thanks for any advice you have,

-Dan

A:OneDrive Syncing with Local Documents/Pictures/Videos/Etc Folders

Hello and welcome to the TenForums!

You can indeed use OneDrive as a cloud storage location and you can select whether or not you want your files mirrored on the PC or laptop.

Here is what I would do:

1. Have your W10 storage options set up so that the locations are all to your OneDrive: see Documents & Pictures - Auto Save to OneDrive or This PC in Windows 10

2. Choose which folders you want to sync onto the desktop or laptop or leave as cloud storage: see OneDrive - Unlink in Windows 10

If you look in the Tutorial index there are a number of other OneDrive tutorials you will find to be helpful.

I received a 2 gb olympus sound recorder which I was asked to restore to normal fuctionality, and restore some mp3s that were presumably recorded on it.

The file system appears to be intact, so I can read from it, but there are two noticeable changes to the device.
First, it seems to have been infected with a version of the RECYCLER virus, which turned all the folders into links which point to the virus itself.
One of those folders are thought to contain the mp3 file in question.
Second, the device seems to have been bitlocker enabled, but it does not need any encryption key.

Now, I don't know, in what order did these events happened; I only need a confirmation, that no data can be recovered once deleted, either before or after bitlocker is enabled.

A:Can deleted files be recovered on a bitlocker enabled device?

there's a chance you can recover the mp3s
you need to rely on professional file recovery tool to get them back. A popular one is Asoftech Recovery. This tool can deep scan your computer and recover your lost files back without requiring extra skills. Here is the steps might be helpful to you:
1. Download this program on your compute. here is the link: Photo Recovery: Restore your lost photo
2. Install and start the program, select the drive where your lost files located, click Start. Now the scanning process will start to search the deleted files. After a while you will then get a list of recoverable files.
3. Press Recover to perform full recovery.
hope this helps..cause the files are infected too.

I run an ACER Aspire X3950 with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

I purchased a "RAYGO eXtreme Hard Drive enclosure (SATA to USB)" and installed within it a 1 Terabite HDD that was working (and can work) flawlessly in a different PC. The HDD is about 85% empty.

For no apparent reason, most of the time when I (try to) transfer large files to the external HDD, the latter stops working. However, I've been able to transfer (blocks of) files of more thann 30 Gb without a hitch.

When the external HDD does stops working, Device Manager shows "Unknown device". When it works, Device Manager shows two instances of "USB Mass Storage Device". If I restart the PC, most of the time the external HDD is ignored and not even the "Unknown device" entry appears.

Is the USB hub a "powered" hub (has its own power supply) or a non-powered hub that uses the PC's USB port power? 2) Chose Properties for Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
3) Selected Obtain an IP address automatically
4) Below that I also erased the DNS Server I had in there by selecting the option above it, which was Obtain DNS server Address automatically.

I don't know if I would have been able to connect if I had not done step 4 above.

So, my question is, is this normal? Does one have to undo the creation of a Static IP address when switching from being connected via the router via an ethernet cable (I had my wireless disabled) to being connected directly to the modem?

I have no desire to save anything to "the cloud." Nor do I have any devices to which I need to sync my computer. Right now, I have syncing paused, but I'd just as soon completely disable or get rid of it and OneDrive. Is there a way? I found a tutorial online for doing it, but it involved using the group policy editor (gpedit.msc) which my version of 8.1 doesn't seem to have.

Hi, is there a way to completely disable the OneDrive Sync Engine process from starting up with windows? I can't find it in the startup menu. Sometimes when it loads it will lock up my computer for about ~5 mins until anything becomes responsive. I was able to grab a screen shot of the process loading in the notifications. I just would like to disable OneDrive 100% if possible (running Win 8.1, update 1) as I do not use that service for anything. Thanks!

Edit: Here's the process of what it says in TM

Hi there,
First time posting on this site so please be gentle.......
I have been using my 4 gig memory stick for quite some time now, only to lend it to my colleague. Once upon my return from hols he seems to have formatted it to 200mb (much to my annoyance!) so is there any way i can reformat to the full 4 gig? i did have a little look my self but it only gave me a maximum capacity of 200mb when i went to re-format.

Can it be resolved or do i just chuck it away like my old 500mb device?

Plug in the device and go to disk management [start>run and type in "diskmgmt.msc" without quotes. See if it shows any unallocated space on the disk. Post a screenshot of disk management.

I have tried reseting the router nothing happend I tried making a network connection it didnt work I dont know what to do.
By the way I have windows vista.
Any help will be great.
Thank you for your time.

A:WEP security enabled router that cant be connected with

Hi, welcome to the forums. At this stage i would reset the router and make a fresh connection use WEP if you like however WPA offers improved security. There is a reason these units are cheap it's because thats the way they are made. To reset follow this ridiculous procedure:-
Turn on the device.
Press and hold the reset button.
Turn off the device.
Release the reset button.
Press and hold the reset button again.
Turn on the device again.
Finally, wait until 20-30 seconds before releasing the reset button.

I recall enabling some sort of monitor/feedback to MS service after or during the update from win 8 pro to win 8.1 pro. But I dont recall what it was called.

Now my cpu is running 50%+ much of the time for no apparent reason.

Windows Host Process Tasks .... or some such thing shows in the Task Mgr when it is throttling my cpu....and runnig it 50%+.

How can I find and disable the service that is causing this?

Thanks.
