Your organization used Windows Defender Application Control to block this app

Q: Your organization used Windows Defender Application Control to block this app

Hi..

I was helping a friend of mine and he upgraded the computer from windows 7 to windows 10 S instead of Windows 10 Pro. He asked my help. I tried to help and he purchased a key from Microsoft website and activated the key on windows 10 S. Windows 10 activated successfully. From last few days, he is facing concern and error when trying to download anything on website, it says..
" Your organization used Windows Defender Application Control to block this app. "

He uses Dell optiplex 745 desktop.

Processor 6700, 2.66, 4M, Core Duo-Conroe, Burn2

We tried to check for secure boot or UEFI setup but it has legacy bios, I tried full reset but it did not help.

Please help.

Preferred Solution: Your organization used Windows Defender Application Control to block this app

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

hi all,

hope i'm posting in the right place as i think Windows Defender is classified as a System/Security feature.

My problem is that Windows Defender is blocking my Yahoo Messenger 8.1 during startup.

I keep getting the Startup Program blocked notification whenever i boot up Vista although i have already disabled the Windows Defender services.

I've tried to uninstall and reinstall YM after restarting numerous times and the problems still persists.

FYI, I did a installation of the YM for Vista version and encountered no problems.

Anyone has any ideas ? Let me know if any further info is required

HOWTOGEEK.COM - How to Block An Application from Accessing the Internet with Windows Firewall

Why Do I Want To Do This?

"Some of you might have been sold immediately by the headline, as blocking an application is exactly what you?ve been wanting to do. Others may have opened this tutorial curious as to why one would block an application in the first place.

Although you generally want your applications to have free access to the network (after all what good is a web browser that can?t reach the web) there are a variety of situations in which you may wish to prevent an application from accessing the network.

Some simple and commonplace examples are as follows. You might have an application that insists on automatically updating itself (but those updates break some functionality and you wish to stop the updates). You might have a video game that you?re comfortable with your child playing, but you?re not so comfortable with the online (and unsupervised) multiplayer elements. You might be using an application with really obnoxious ads that can be silenced by cutting off the application?s Internet access.

Regardless of why you want to drop the cone of network connectivity silence over a given application, a trip into the guts of the Windows Firewall is an easy way to do so. Let?s take a look at how to block an application from accessing the local network and Internet now."
Although we?ll be demonstrating this trick on Windows 10, the basi... Read more

Just some background information, I was tired of Windows Defender taking up 100% disk usage at startup with Antimalware Service Executable so I installed BitDefender in its place so I could get myself set up when I start up my computer without having to wait half an hour to an hour for anything (Even Task Manager or Ctrl+Alt+Delete Security Screen) to be running.
Today I just turned on my computer and noticed that it froze after logging in. After about an hour of waiting, I shut it down using the power button and turning it back on, which is usually my last-resort method. I logged into my computer again and opened the Task Manager up to find that Antimalware Service Executable was taking up 100% disk usage again, which then enabled Windows to inform me that both of my AntiVirus programs had been turned off for whatever reason. I clicked on the notification and noticed Windows Defender had turned itself back on when I never disabled Bitdefender to begin with.
Right now I'm running a Malwarebytes scan and will run a system scan with Bitdefender as well, but I'm pretty sure that's not what caused the problem with my computer because I hadn't downloaded anything since my last scan which was around a week ago.

My computer is running Windows 10 Home Edition x64 on an Intel i7-4500U Dual-Core clocked at 1.8+2.4GHz with 8GB DDR3 RAM and an Intel HD Graphics (4400) GPU.

If you need any more information to help find out what the problem is, I will be able to reply quickly! Thanks!

A:Windows Defender turns itself on even with other AV application on

Hi, quite understand as I had to battle with W. Defender when I first upgraded. However, I have Bitdefender (IS 2016) installed, and Bitdefender isn't running. (Nor should it be as you know).

Puzzling behaviour. I'll just deal with turning off W. Defender so you can get to a usable state.
With that disabled, you can see whether Bitdefender then runs ok.

You may know that turning W Defender off using Win 10's GUI means it just comes back to haunt you.
See options 3, 4 here to disable it (although that shouldn't be necessary).

Since last Friday Oct 2. Windows Defender on my Windows 8.1 laptop has been constantly quarantining files of all kinds, and hundreds of files have been quarantined, including outlook.exe, access.exe, jpegs, access databases, executables, logs, task scheduler
tasks, ini files, etc. The MS Office programs seemed to have healed itself but some files have disappeared.  According to Windows Defender, it detected PWS:HTML/Phish.GK However, this appears to be transmitted by an html file, so it does not make
sense for it to be quarantining non-html files. There are a few html files that it correctly identified as a phishing file related to the tangerine financial institution, but I am suspecting the virus signature for this matches many files in my system and
is thus quarantining them. Is there any other reports of this, or has my virus definition file been tampered with. Any assistance troubleshooting is appreciated. I have installed Avira in place of Defender and it does not detect any viruses.

Windows Defender is turned on by default in Windows 7 and Vista. Be aware that some anti-virus programs may disable Defender to avoid any potential conflicts. In some cases, the disabling does not always go as expected so you may have to manually do that yourself. Windows Defender Application Guard Spotted in Latest Windows 10 Builds

Microsoft first announced Windows Defender Application Guard for Microsoft Edge in late 2016, promising to release it to insiders in the coming months before making it broadly available to everyone with the Creators Update, and it turns out that this feature has been silently implemented in the last preview build.

Windows 10 Creators Update (Redstone 2) build 15031 comes with the Windows Defender Application Guard integrated into Microsoft Edge, and as @gus33000 discovered, you can easily check it out for yourselves by simply typing about:applicationguard in the address bar.
At this point, the only thing we can see is the intro screen, which confirms the existence of the feature in Microsoft Edge, and it?s believed that Microsoft would make it official with the next build expected this week.

What is Windows Defender Application Guard?
This new security feature for Microsoft Edge adds a new protection layer to Windows 10 devices that isolates threats in a sandbox, limiting their access and blocking them from impacting computers or stored data.

?Windows Defender Application Guard uses the latest virtualization technology to help protect your operating system by creating an isolated environment for your Microsoft Edge session. It starts up every time you visit a non-work-related site, to help keep potentially malicious attacks away from your PC,? the intro screen currently available in Microsoft E... Read more

lately, i often receive a message above the notification area. it says: a system change has been made by a known application

change type: application execution

application: c:\windows\system32\mswsock.dll

i found a post from the past by searching, and tried the remedy suggested [check and repair winsock corruption and reset theTcp/IP protocol], but was unable to do this, as for the former, i was told the command 'required elevation' [i have no idea what this means] and for the latter, that the command was 'not found'.
this may have something to do with the fact that i was advised to hit 'start', type 'cmd', right-click on 'cmd' and hit 'run as administrator'--when i right-clicked on 'cmd', that option was not there... please advise!!!

thanks so much--

Right now I'm using one of those auto kill utilities but since the entries in the list are constant it seems lame to run a program to enforce it. I should just add them to some policy setting registry mumbo jumbo and forget about it.

Any clues?

Rahma1 Sorry, but you're misunderstanding the situation.  Starting with Win7, Windows users were no longer created with the same permissions as the default Administrator account.  This was to prevent malware and rootkits from taking over the PC. So, as a general use, with some elevated rights, some apps you run will prompt for the password when you run them -- this is how modern Windows versions work. Since this is your PC, you should know the password. We have no way of find out that password, so we have no way of helping you to get around it. If you did not setup this PC, you will need to talk to whomever did -- in order to obtain the password. Good Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------If my posts helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on my post to say thanks. If my posts solved your problem please click "Accept As Solution".========================================================================

It is under the Firewall tab.

Here is the step by step (note that I do not have it installed so some terms might be slightly different but should be able to guide you through):

*Go to Firewall Settings window by clicking Settings next to the firewall section.
*Click the Exceptions button and click the Add button.
*Enter the path of the application you want to allow or block.
*Name the rule you just created.

That should do the trick.

I don't want any standard user to run any application expect those which are already installed, so I created a path rule in software restriction policy and disallowed all applications (.exe, .msi & .msp) except those which are present in windows &
program files folder. But problem is that some applications (like Matlab) require access to
PROGRAM DATA (like Java) and APP DATA FOLDER which contain many executables. If I allow those folders, standard users are able to copy any portable application into those folder & run it from there. That means users are
able to write into those folders.
However, I can create path rule for all executables present in those folders and allow them, but they too many of them, so its not convenient to create rules one by one.
Also I have personal folder in Local Drive (D) which contains some useful portable applications, so I want to allow that folder and at same time make it write protected so that standard user cannot copy any other application and run it at their own will.
Any solution?

first off i'd like to apologize if i missed a thread like this while searching through the forums (i know how annoying it can be). i downloaded the beta version of wmp 11 and it seems fine except for the way it organizes my music. a good example is one of the cds i ripped to my laptop. i ripped the soundtrack to unbreakable to my laptop and i did NOT edit any information. i left it just the way it was and it now resides in a folder labeled "Unbreakable" with all the tracks in the correct order with the correct track name and information. however, when viewing the album through wmp 11, it says that track 1 comes from an 'unbreakable' album, track 2 comes from a different 'unbreakable' album and tracks 3-14 come from yet a third 'unbreakable' album. it also renamed tracks 3-5 to "Unbreakable Film Score" but those aren't the correct names and when i go back to the original folder on the computer, they're still correctly named. i only have ONE unbreakable album on my laptop with all the correct track names so why is wmp 11 automatically trying to figure out how to organize it (and doing a poor job of it) when it's already organized? "Unbreakable" is not the only album this happens to, it actually happens to most of my albums. is there a way i can tell wmp 11 to stop automatically organizing my music information and just have it organize my music the way i have it organized on my computer?

Hiya

The User Interface Process Application Block provides a simple yet extensible framework for developing user interface processes. It is designed to abstract the control flow and state management out of the user interface layer into a user interface process layer. This helps you write generic code for the control flow and state management for different applications types (for example, Web and Windows) and helps manage user's tasks in complex scenarios (for example, suspending and resuming stateful tasks).

System Requirements
Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003

Microsoft Windows® 2000, Windows XP Professional or Microsoft Windows Server 2003
Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1
Visual Studio .NET (recommended but not required)

Windows 10 Should Ban Downloads of Pirated Content, Organization Says

Windows and Office are two of the most impacted software products when it comes to the high level of piracy around the world, and this is exactly the reason Microsoft should introduce new methods of blocking the download of illegal content straight from the operating system level.

This is the conclusion of a report published by Black Market Watch and the Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime regarding ways to tackle piracy in Sweden, with hopes that similar measures could be adopted worldwide at some point in the future.

Specifically, the organization claims that Microsoft, Apple, and Google can introduce piracy-blocking filters in their operating systems and thus make it impossible for users to download illegal content anyway. This would make torrent trackers and other piracy content distribution channels obsolete because, this way, users wouldn?t be allowed to download files, no matter if these sources are available or not.

Furthermore, the organization claims (document in Swedish) that these companies need to be encouraged, and if this doesn?t work, ?regulated? in order to block downloads of copyright infringement material, according to a report from TorrentFreak.

?Other players that possess the potential ability to limit piracy are the companies that own the major operating systems which control computers and mobile devices such as Apple, Google and Microsoft,? it says... Read more

My application is detected as "a program from Unknown Publisher" by Windows Defender during installation.
I'm in the process of being issued "Code Sign(Digital Signature)" to make Window Defender trust my application.
But I'm not sure if "Code Sign(Digital Signature)" is a sole criteria to solve this problem
Are there any other requirements that I have to follow not to be considered "a program from Unknown Publisher" ?
It would be appreciated if you reply to my quries.

I get the message:
"Bit Defender has blocked a potentially malicious or infected application"

The application apparently is part of the Microsoft Windows Operating System:
C:\Windows\System 32\svchost.exe

Bit Defender blocks it and I'm not sure I can allow it because of previous problems involving blue screens and stop errors. Dell support was unable to help me, as a matter of fact they made things worse by uninstalling a video adapter and then installing one meant for Vista on my XP laptop. So, I restored to a previous point and haven't seen a blue screen since but it's only been a week or so. I also uninstalled McAfee which came with the computer and installed Bit Defender which still has some life from the previous computer. That's when I started getting the above message. Neither McAfee or Bit Defender found anything wrong with malware or spyware.
Normally, I would allow the program to run since you would think a new computer would not have a corrupted operating system, but because one of the techs at Dell suggested that that was the problem with my blue screens and the fact that I haven't been able to use the delete key since day one and that the delete key works in safe mode. According to him, 2/3 of the time it's due to spyware. They want me to restore the computer to its original day one status. It took me two days to get all my programs and stuff moved from the old computer, so I'm not really too anxious to start all ove... Read more

Windows update error code : Code 80240016 (because Windows Defender will not update)
Windows Defender (from program) error code: Code 0x800705b4 (timeout period expired)
Windows Defender Network : successfully able to start in services.msc
Windows Defender Service error code: Code 0x80070005 (access denied)

I am unable to update windows defender or upgrade to windows 10 because of it, I have no other third party malware protection installed, and am unable to start windows defender from the program, the program opens but will not start and am unable to change anything else such as settings.

I have used services.msc to try and start it from there and have had no luck, but the windows defender network seems to start and work ok. YES windows defender service is set to AUTOMATIC

I have removed all malware detected by the full paid version of malwarebytes anti malware before uninstalling it (only trainers for darksouls)

I have used regedit to remove all conflicting registry errors (there were none) also windows defender does not even show up in HKEYLOCAL_MACHINE under microsoft

I have used administrator command promt to run sfc/scannow (no change) a few errors popped up but it said it couldn't get rid of them all.

This is about all i can remember that i have tried, I'm sure there was more i can't think of right now. nothing has helped one bit.

.What you need to know before searching for alternative security approaches
.The components of modern security products
.Application control as a key tool for securing corporate networks
.The balance between freedom of action and security
.The traditional approach to protection: Default Allow
.Default Deny mode

Introduction
Corporate network security is one of the most pressing issues for companies today. Malicious programs can cause substantial harm to a business, and a firm?s reputation is not the least of its worries. Companies specializing in IT security offer a variety of costly solutions, although in many cases, installing these solutions can actually lead to a steep increase in network maintenance costs. However, traditional security solutions cannot always provide guaranteed protection against unknown threats ? especially when it comes to targeted attacks.

This article addresses an alternative approach to protecting corporate networks: the Whitelist Security Approach.

This approach continues the developments in launch control technologies (otherwise known as Application Control) which add Default Deny mode support and innovative new whitelisting technologies, or Dynamic Whitelist.

At Kaspersky Lab, we believe the Whitelist Security Approach is one of the key elements of protection for corporate networks of the future. Products that use this approach are capable not only of protecting a network against unknown threats but also offer netwo... Read more

A:Application Control:

Part 2
.It?s brilliant ? but is it user-friendly?
.New developments in Application Control
.The Dynamic Whitelist
.From theory to practice: Kaspersky Lab?s Endpoint 10
.Conclusion

It?s brilliant ? but is it user-friendly?

The idea behind Default Deny is very simple and logical. However, until now this approach was focused exclusively on a very narrow target audience. This was primarily because of the technical challenges arising on the road toward developing a solution that would be appropriate for broad use, and without a number of critical limitations.

Dynamic Whitelist. Kaspersky Lab currently works with several hundred international partners and tens of millions of participants in the Kaspersky Security Network global data network, in addition to an extensive network of automated search agents. Combined, these components provide continuous updating of Kaspersky Lab?s dynamic knowledge bases, with an average of over one million new files per day.
The quality of Kaspersky Lab?s Dynamic Whitelist was proven in an independent test conducted by West Coast Labs. The study showed that Kaspersky Lab?s database contains data on 94% of all clean software released around the world.
It is necessary to carefully control all of the programs entered into the Dynamic Whitelist, and most importantly to keep its reputation up to date. A program classified as ?clean? today can, after more careful analysis, turn out to be a carrier of threatening malicious code t... Read more
