Copy Batch (.bat) file to startup Menu of All User/Each User

Q: Copy Batch (.bat) file to startup Menu of All User/Each User

I have created a batch file(file1.bat) to run on every machine to create a batch file(file2.bat) to a launch a page at windows startup.
This is the content of file1.bat:
@echo off
@echo>"C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\file2.bat
@echo start http://www.msn.com/>" target="_blank" class="wLink">http://www.msn.com/> C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\file2.bat
Expected result is to copy the file2.bat to startup of each user profile. However, The file2.bat is not copied to the startup folder on windows 7, 8, 10 after testing.
However, this will work in file1.bat:
@echo off
@echo>"C:\Testing\file2.bat
@echo start http://www.msn.com/> C:\Testing\file2.bat
I do not have a domain joined network. I need to send the file1.bat to all staff. I plan to deploy to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.

Thanks in advance to all. Any help is appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Right click on the program, properties, secuity permissions. Give permission to all you want to give access to.

You have to make the program available to the other user. Now, for the second user, the program does not exist.

One of my PCs at home has five users, and Fast User Switching is enabled. When my wife logs onto her account (which was logged off by the previous user using "Switch User")... they leave AIM6 and whatever other junk applications running.

This is a problem for my wife who has short term memory loss problems from an auto accident. I cannot instruct her to run a batch file to end tasks when she logs on (she won't remember tomorrow or next week, so I need to automate it).

Doing so is proving difficult. Scheduled Tasks will not run a file at logon unless it is the first logon after completely logging off (not using Fast User Switching). Likewise for files in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup or C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup. And HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run is no help either.

Any ideas?

Edit: The solution does not have to run a batch file. Anything that accomplishes the desired result will do.

I'm stumped.
I have a batch file that I used on XP to run an MMC that I created for common management tasks. In the MMC I have the ability to run regedit as a root forest domain privileged user (for remote system registry editing), password resets (using AD) remote computer management, and several web links for common sites the team uses. I did this so it was all in one place and it worked awesome in Win XP. When I run the batch file it reports that the directory could not be found.

Here's the command in the batch file:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\runas.exe /savecred /profile /env /user:root forest domain account "mmc Admin_Tools.msc"

Obviously the account being used for the privileged access is put after the user switch.

Here is the error I get:

I have verified that runas is in the same place as in XP, as well as MMC. I have run the batch file with elevate access as well as run the command prompt with elevated access (in fact that was copied from an elevated command prompt). The account I'm running it on has admin rights on the box, though UAC is set, I own both the account this was run from and the "root forest" privileged account, this accou... Read more

Those of you who have read my posts over the past couple of weeks know what am doing on a computer belonging to an Assisted Living facility.
I have the user accounts set up plus I have removed the "Switch User and Sleep menu items from the context menu of "START.......SHUTDOWN. I have reminded the users to log off several times. I have used BRINKS tutorial to create a LOG OFF shortcut and pinned the shortcut to the task bar. Some of the users STILL fail to logoff when they are done using the computer. I am now wanting to log them out of their account after an adjustable period of inactivity Maybe you wizards can come up with a tutorial to accomplish this.
What I am thinking is a screensaver type of auto log-off. The screensaver would come on after a predetermined period of inactivity. It would have a warning msg and display a countdown. At the end of the countdown the log-off command would be initiated.
External (administrator) inputs
1. Length of inactivity.
2. Length of warning, time it is displayed.
3. Maybe text of the warning.

A:Batch file to automatically log a user off after a time of inactivity

Hi Blockie -

Since Sleep or Hibernate would save the same user session and not Log Off it's probably not what you want even though the PC would be suspended until awakened or resumed.

Doing a search I found two methods that might work for you that also provide templates for either Task Scheduler in any version, or Group Policy controls if you have Pro or Ultimate.

automatic logout after inactivity/idle using Task Scheduler

WizardSoft - AutoLogoff cleanup & end inactive Windows sessions using Group Policy.

My user profile became corrupted after years of problem-free usage (no clue why), so now I always end up in a temporary account after a reboot.

As per Microsoft's instructions I found here Fix a corrupted user profile - Windows Help, I

1. created a new account
2. logged out and logged in again using another account (not the newly created one)
3. tried to copy the data from the account that had its user profile corrupted to the new account.

However, under C:\Users, the user folder I want to copy from is a white generic icon (not a folder) and it is padlocked and has a size of 0KB - so I can't open it to copy from. Looking at how much data is on C: it looks as if all my data could still be there (I hope).

How could I get access to copy all data from my old account into the new account?

Many thanks in advance for some hints as to what to do!

I'm running Win 7. About the virus - at first each time I started the computer I saw an Internet Security fake scan, and it disabled all .exe. Now I see a US Courts MoneyPak screen. Safe Mode won't start. System restore doesn't work either because the restore points are too recent. I googled how to remove the virus, but most require dowloading and installing programs - which I don't want to do. I would prefer to manually delete the virus files. I found a couple videos that edit the registry, but I can't find the infected files in my reg. Which got me to thinking... Using the command prompt I created a new user which creates a new, clean reg. No problems with the computer logged in as the new user. All the programs work ok, and I've copied all the files from the infected user to the new user. If I now delete the infected user, does that also delete the registry for that user and the virus along with it (assuming the virus is in the registry)?

xcopy files "%userprofile%\AppData /S /Y

But the shortage is that it will start to run bat and copy file when AAA login every time . So I want to improve the deployment .
So Does any guys know how to assign special user account (AAA) to %userprofile% variable ? So I can run bat file only once via SCCM deployment and no need to add it into startup folder run again and again .

I've got a user who connecting to a Windows 2003 Terminal Server. He has permission to write to all the directories in a tree on the d: drive. He is trying to copy a .ini file to another directory in the same tree but is unable to.

This is most puzzling because he can write to the directories, he can copy another file or copy the blah.ini file to another name in the target directory.

From cmd, he is doing

Code:
copy blah.ini ..\
access is denied
0 files copied
It seems ridiculously simple, but I can't see any reason why the thing shouldn't work, the user has write permissions to the directory above and can do the following successfully
Code:
copy blah.ini ..\blah.txt
So it seems that this is isolated to the .ini extension and not a permissions issue.

So is there some security measure that stops an ordinary user from working with .ini files? Or is it something specific to Terminal Server 2003?

A simple del command line may not work, because you do not have access on the temp files of other users. If you still encounter problems after trying this suggestion, I recommend that you discuss it in our Script Center, you may need a VB script that can

Hi all,

I had to repair Windows XP Home from original disk because of a system 32 error.

Now when I start Windows on the welcome page it says "To begin, click your user name" but the right part of the screen where the users normally are is completely blank. There are no users to choose from.

I can run Safe Mode, so I have tried the following

1. In safe mode went to Control Panel>Users> and added a new user and checked the Administrator password was still the same (yes). This made no difference and blue logon screen still asked me to choose a user but had no users showing.

2. In safe mode Start>Run "Control Userpasswords2" and unchecked "Users must use a password on this computer". This has now created the error when I boot "Unable to log you on because of an account restriction". Then goes back to blue "To begin, click your user name" but no users.

3. Tried repairing Win XP AGAIN, but no difference.

Has anyone seen this problem before? I would so appreciate any input.
Thanks,

I have a Windows XP user who can open PDF files on our secondary file server (e.g. \\serverB\shares\marketing\file.pdf) but not from the main server (\\serverA\shares\marketing\file.pdf). Same with copying PDF files. He can
copy them to his desktop. from server B but not from server A. Server A is the one assigned to him because server B is being pre-seeded for DFS and is in a different office anyway.

The problem is only with PDF files. He can open and copy any other files. And it's only on his Windows XP machine. His Windows 7 machine works just fine (he can copy and open PDF files from server A).

The two servers (Windows 2016) are set up identically as far as NTFS permissions. The only difference is that server A is set up in DFS while server B is being pre-seeded before being added to DFS.

DFS namespace type is: domain (Windows Server 2008 mode).

The XP machine had no problem under server A when the DFS namespace type was Server 2000 mode, but I'm not sure that would cause the problem.

I know I can delete them individually, one-by-one, but I'm wondering where they're listed, say, in the registry or in appdata, or something, that would allow me to delete them all at once.

Guys I have done this in the past but cannot recall how and don't want to botch.

I had hoped Windows 10 corrected the "rename user account" function but nope. I renamed a User Account due to conflict on the LAN [same name, same spelling] and sure enough, now I have two names for the account, one a slightly hidden original name, and permissions issues. To rid it, I will create an all new Administrator account, move everything over, and demolish the old.
How to do? the docs/files are easy... the settings for apps etc are not as I recall

thx

A:Move/copy-paste User Account data & docs to New User account same sys

Don't even try would be my recommendation.

Make a new Admin account and copy your documents. Set everything else up from scratch.

Most applications will store their stuff in %localappdata% but unless you have some specific app (Windows Live Mail or Outlook or something) tht you must move it would be much better not to try to move things.

If there is something specifically you want to move then ask about that - I've moved the 2 I mention above, for sure someone else has moved something else.

Generally it will be quicker (and cleaner) to start from scratch than trawl though everything hoping to make sure you moved the lot. You'll only end up missing some odd directory and it will not work.

I inherited a Dell XP420 Computer with Vista Operating System from my stepson Pat who could never figure out the machine.

I seem to have many problems with Vista revolving around User Account Control, Privileges, Permissions, Ownership, user names, file control and directory structure. etc.

I?ve been working around UAC problems, but there has to be a way out of this. My most recent issue:

IE has problems fully loading web pages. With IE, like several programs that I run with this computer I get messages that say I have corrupt files. I get object error warnings Chkdsk does not fix problems.

While shopping for a new car battery, with many pages open, the computer completely hung up last night. I had to kill power and reboot.

IE7 did not work, I Unloaded and IE7 would not work also. Google Chrome is fine, I have internet access. I reset all defaults.

After hours of messing around, I discovered the way to start IE is ?Run as Administrator?

A:Batch File .bat to copy file from File Sharing & FTP Hosting

Hi Chacha,

Give this batch file a try. All text in red, you should adjust before running.

Code:
@echo off
(
echo.Username
echo.Password
echo.lcd C:\Some\local\directory
echo.cd /Some/server/path
echo.binary
echo.get Some_file_to_download.txt
echo.bye
) > "%TEMP%\_%~n0.ftp"
ftp -s:"%TEMP%\_%~n0.ftp" "12.34.56.78"
del "%TEMP%\_%~n0.ftp"

Hi Guys,

I want to make one batch file which daily copies yesterday's files from one folder & paste it to another folder.

I.e.
C:/111 folder has following files.
1.zip had yesterday's date
2.zip had yesterday's date
3.zip had last sunday's date

now, when i will run batch file today, it only copies 1.zip & 2.zip & move to another folder C:/222

So C:/222 contains following
1.zip had yesterday's date
2.zip had yesterday's date

Please note , i have to run this batch file daily which should not require any changes.

Hello all,

I have a little problem that I want to solve with either a batch file or a VBScript file.

First, a little background into what I am doing. We have a large number of computers connected to our network. They are manually named based on their asset number, and as you'd expect mistakes sometimes happen.

Currently we manually rename these assests across the network and the Internet, however, this is quite a dangerous process as it relies on a continuous network connection.

I am in the throws of automating this process by passing a series of batch and script files to the computer which will complete the rename locally. To do this, we have to create a local admin user to run the scripts under, and then need to delete that user at the end of the process. I have found examples of scripts to delete a local user from a computer across the domain, but I need to be able to do this from the local machine (otherwise we would have to reconfigure the script every time we rename a machine).

If anyone can help, I'd be very grateful.

Damion.

A:Batch/Scripts to control user profiles

Why don't you just use the Built-in Administrator account? Seems like a lot of work to create an account then delete it when this one always exists.

Anyway, net user <Username> /delete will delete the account, and you can delete the one you are logged in with.
This will not delete the profile folder though, that can't be deleted completely while it is in use, but could be easily deleted with a startup script specified in a GPO, or by using the User Profile Deletion Utility (Delprof.exe).

If it has to be completely local, you could use a run once script to delete it after logging in with a Limited user account as long as you first grant that Limited account Full Control rights to the profile folder using cacls, icacls, xcacls or subinacl, whichever one you have installed.

scheduling defrag for those that don't want to leave machines on overnight.

I've been looking around the web, and trawling through CMD.exe for a good few hours now, and I still can't find it.

I'm trying to create a batch file that defrags a machines c: drive, and then shuts down the computer as soon as it's finished, having given a 2 minute warning. That was the easy bit.

@echo off

defrag c:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\TSSHUTDN.EXE 0 /DELAY:120 /POWERDOWNClick to expand...

I'm now struggling to find out how to get a simple (Y/N) input from a user as the script starts asking whether the user wants to defrag and shutdown or not waiting 60 seconds for an answer before procedding to defrag and shutdown the computer if no answer is given.

The idea is to schedule it to run at 2am every day, probably from Task Scheduler. It's an experiment in learning as much as anything else though, but I am now completely stuck, bogged down in pages and pages of useless information while trying to find the piece I want.

If anybody knows how to do it, I'd appreciate your help.

IF ERRORLEVEL 2 GOTO FRAG
IF ERRORLEVEL 1 GOTO SHUT

shutdown........

(Note that `^[' represents the "Escape" character. To create it, press ^P (Control-P) in DOS Edit, then the "Escape" key. Other text editors allow one to create the "Escape" character by pressing ^V first.)
Also note the reversed questioning of the input-varaibles

I am trying to copy files from a source directory to an output directory when the output directory already has a file with the following:
../reusable_components/<filename>#.

I already have the following:
findstr /s /i /m "\<../reusable_components\>" *.xml > results.txt
This will return a list of filenames with the text in it.

Now I want to parse the list of files and take out the filename after ../reusable_components. I tried:
for /f %%a in ('findstr /s /i /m "\<../reusable_components\>" *.xml') do (echo %%a)
but that didn't work any ideas?

hello every onei am just started to learn about batch files, and done some really basic ones So i was just trying out the copy command just to try one for myself, but seem to be getting stuck"EXAMPLE" I WAS TRYING TO COPY C:\TEMP TO C:\Documents and Settings\ROWLEY.PRIVATE-3264A01\My Documents I also tryed copy c:\temp to c:\my documents. but as i am new to this i am doing something wrong can anyone shed any light on this for me. i am using windows xp. Copies one or more files to another location.COPY [/A | /B] source [/A | /B] [+ source [/A | /B] [+ ...]] [destination] [/A | /B]] [/V] [/Y | /-Y]source Specifies the file or files to be copied. /A Indicates an ASCII text file. /B Indicates a binary file. destination Specifies the directory and/or filename for the new file(s). /V Verifies that new files are written correctly. /Y Suppresses prompting to confirm you want to overwrite an existing destination file. /-Y Causes prompting to confirm you want to overwrite an existing destination file. The switch /Y may be preset in the COPYCMD environment variable. A:Batch File Copy Command

The copy command works on files, not on directories. So, for example, if you wanted to copy all the files in the Temp directory (NOT A GOOD IDEA, BTW - it'll copy a whole bunch of nonsense stuff) to your My Documents folder the syntax would be:

COPY C:\TEMP\*.* TO C:\Documents and Settings\ROWLEY.PRIVATE-3264A01\My Documents\*.*

This will copy everything in the C:\Temp directory to the My Documents directory that's indicated here. The use of the wildcards of *.* means that it will copy everything with entries before the . and everything after the .

It'd be a better experiment (IMO) to just copy 1 text file from the Temp directory to the My Documents directory. In this case it'd be:

COPY C:\TEMP\filename.txt TO C:\Documents and Settings\ROWLEY.PRIVATE-3264A01\My Documents\*.*

You'll end up with a document named filename.txt (if it exists in your Temp directory) in your My Documents folder.

Just for experimentation, try typing "dir *." (without the quotes) at the command prompt. It'll give you a listing of the directories that are located within the folder that your command prompt is open to.
