I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

We have recently changed our Internet provider, and I find that although the Internet connects and works perfectly well on my (Android) tablet, it is constantly disconnecting on my laptop. I had no problems before with the previous provider. I've checked all the Internet and Network settings I can find but nothing looks like it needs to be changed. I've even checked the firewall. My laptop is about 7-8 years old. My partner has no problem with the connection on his laptop, it seems to be just mine.

I really need help since I'm not computer savy. Yesterday, I stupidly decided to disconnect my modem and router because all the wires were a mess!! Well, now I'm not sure if I reconnected correctly, but I guess I did since I can get online but have no wifi. My router password is working, however, when I entered all the wireless/security stuff on the Linksys site it just keeps bringing back to the basic set up page . I hsve no idea what is wrong. Any ideas? My router is a Linksys N300.

Thanks so much! I spent about 8 hours yesterday trying to fix this. Losing my mind!

A:Router won't connect, no wifi (moved from Windows 8 forum)

Might help to give us the actual model number of your Linksys router. The N300 refers to a type, not a model number. Wouldn't hurt to tell us the brand and model number of the modem.

Please tell us exactly how you have the computer, router and modem wired to each other, by referring to how the ports are named and labeled.

When you say, "I can get online but have no wifi", do you mean you your computer can get to the Internet only with a wired connection?

When you say the, "Linksys site", do you mean the web based administration pages on your Linksys router?

When you were changing the wireless and security settings, did you need to click a button the settings pages to actually save the settings.

Does your router show up in the list available WiFi connections on the Windows network connection list?

I have a Gateway laptop model NE56R31u with Windows 8. I've had it a little over a year and it has worked fine up until the last few months. First it started taking a while to acknowledge a wifi signal when I would turn my computer on. Where it was instant before it was now taking anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes. It did this for about the last 3 months. Now, it will completely drop my wifi connection at random. It happens every day and anywhere from every 5 minutes to 3 hours sometimes. I'm sure its not a problem with my router or anything to do with my internet service because it happens at my work as well. I have 8 signals close enough there to show up in my networks and when it drops it, it won't recognize any of them. I have to restart it each time for it to connect again. All of the settings in my network adapter are as they have always been and I checked to see if the drivers may need updated but I have the latest version. Can anyone help?? Thanks!

A:wifi unable to connect (Moved from Windows 7 forum)

the pcie family controller is the wired network, not the wifi. you need to download the wofi drivers, install them and you should be good. the easiest way to do this is to hook up to the router with a cable, then download it. there are four available on the download page that said wifi, try them all to see which one works. i found them here: http://www.samsung.com/ph/support/model/NP-N102S-B04PH

I'm currently working on fixing a computer that has a Win32.Trojan.RX Virus (nasty bugger) and I'm trying to get online to do a HJT and download some things to scan the computer (as it has nothing to scan it with for some reason) But I keep getting mass amounts of popups and the computer starts giving me low virtual memory errors. After this happened about 7 times of trying to get online, I decided to try doing Safe Mode with Networking, but it wont let me online that way either, and I know for a fact that my internet isn't PPPoE. I don't know what I should do. Any help would be much obligued. BTW it is a Dell-XP Home Edition. I was thinking of doing a PC restore but I'm not sure as to if that would get rid of the virus or not. I've already gone through the add/remove list and took off malware softwares.

A:Help :S [Moved from Internet Explorer forum]

Hello SummonerKrista

If you cant get online on your PC and download HJT, would you be able to download it on another computer and transfer it onto the infected PC, then scan and then get a log?

If you would like to get your PC virus free you are able to use the HJT help section on TSF, Click here. (Just click on the coloured links.) to post your log in HJT help section.

Once done, please be patient, as the Security Team Analysts are usually very busy; one of them will answer your request as soon as they can.

As far as I know, your History folder is the way to look at which websites you have visited.

Having NT or not, makes no difference.

I am going to move this thread to the Internet Forum, and I hope they will be able to help you further. Perhaps they can help you find the site again... by using search engines, and re-tracing your steps when you originally found the site.

I recently uninstalled and reinstalled Explorer 8.0 in connection to fixing some related Firefox issues. Firefox is now working fine, but Explorer can't connect to microsoft.com (the program does open). According to the diagnostic program that it asks to run, there is a problem with the ftp protocol. In looking into repair of Explorer, microsoft.com is telling me that Explorer 8.0, and Explorer 7.0 are not compatible with the 32-bit XP operating system. Interestingly, when I had uninstalled Explorer 8 during the fixes, suddenly Explorer 7.0 appeared in Control Panel as being installed, whereas before the removal, only Explorer 8 was shown. It appears that I had both versions installed, but that Control Panel was only showing the most recent version. I do have the program and update folders for both programs appearing within the Windows folder. So, how can I find the most recent version of Explorer for XP and fix this issue? Version 8 (8.0.6001.18702) is the most current version that can be used in Windows XP SP3 32-bit or Windows XP SP2 64-bit.

It shouldn't be used anyway because many websites no longer support it and requires the use of a more current browser, such as Mozilla Firefox (which is what I use in both bit versions).

Hello:I've been having an issue with my Dell XPS Desktop (Intel Ethernet Connection I219-V Ethernet card).
When I connect this server to my router by an ethernet cable, all other other computers connected (Hardwired or Wifi connected) disconnect themselves from the internet. I get the same response when I connect to the Wireless Wifi as well.
It happens only with this Desktop running Windows 10.
I was told to change the DNS address to the OPENDNS Addresses - I tried and I had no luck. I do not have the Ethernet card or the Desktop in powersave mode. They do not go to sleep when idle.
Can someone please make any suggestions. Any input from your end would be very much appreciated.

I've been battling this particular issue for a couple of weeks now without much success. I have a custom built desktop where my WIFI connection will deteriorate to the point where internet (and gaming over Steam, etc...) will be either painfully slow or unable to load pages at all. Windows claims throughout that I am connected to my WIFI network with internet access and good signal, even when I cannot reach any internet pages.

This problem has happened at 2 different locations (on different WIFI networks), and with 3 different WIFI adapters (TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 PCI, TRENDnet TEW-684UB USB, Edimax EW-7811Un). At both locations, I have another laptop and a phone that can connect to the WIFI network just fine. I even got a couple of the adapters to work fine on the laptop without the issue.

I've found that disabling NetBIOS seems to temporarily improve matters (I'd read elsewhere that that can cause issues), but it has not resolved the problem. Also: I'm getting DNS errors in the Windows 7 event logs:

"Name resolution for the name XXXX timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded."

Hey everyone, sorry if this is in wrong area.

So today I bought a secondhand computer. It's a Toshiba Satelite L875D-S7230.

When I connect it to my home wifi it connects no problem and says 'internet access' when I hover over the icon. However when I open open google chrome or internet explorer and type in a site, it takes a little while then says this page cannot be displayed or this web page is unavailable.

The guy I bought it from says he had no issues. And I know it's not the internet because I'm using the internet to post this from phone.
I've tried a few ideas that worked for other people on other forums like using cmd box but to no avail.

Has anyone got any idea why the computer is being such a turd?? Can anyway give advice on how to fix the problem? Thank you all so much!

Currently, I can connect to my WIFI router, gain an IP address. however I am getting no internet access.
have a virtual machine running on the PC, with windows XP, and this machine does have full internet access.

Problems and resolutions so far:

Windows firewall and security manager were corrupted and various services did not start however all are up now.
I reset the TCPIP stack via command prompt.
I reinstalled Wifi drivers.
I ran the sfc and chkdisk  commands. Check disk resolved some issues.
I did a traceroute and i hit my router, after there is a request timeout then it goes to a few addresses before stopping.

Im lost now as everything seems to be up, just I am unable to browse. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there. This is my first post on this forum, I hope that I can get some help here . Anyways, here is the issue that my roommates and I are experiencing with our internet.

Recently, starting just a few weeks ago, our internet began acting a bit strange for all of us. We are able to constantly stay connected 24/7. In our network preferences, it says we are always connected to the internet with full bars. For the most part, we all have perfect and fast internet connection, but for some unknown reason, every 45 minutes or so (sometimes shorter, sometimes longer), we won't be able to load anything on the internet from a range of about 5-10 minutes.

The strange thing is that even during these periods of time where we are unable to load anything, as if we had no wifi connection, all of our devices that we use the internet on said that we all still had a perfect connection. Even if we are sitting right next to the router with our laptops, this issue will still constantly reoccur as i described earlier.

What's even weirder is that sometimes things like video games on the pc that run in different clients (not the internet browser), will be able to maintain internet connection when playing online when the internet stops working for everything else. That is definitely what confuses me the most. How could a video game maintain internet connection for online play on the same wifi, yet none of our other devices are able to load anything? We won't even be able to use w... Read more
