Hotkey functions and Function keys not working T43...

Q: Hotkey functions and Function keys not working T43...

I have re-installed, as a clean install, Win7 Pro 64 SP1, on a Lenovo T40.Every driver on the website had to be downloaded and installed. However, I cannot regain functionality on the 'Fn' blue keys, which turn the brightness /volume etc. up and down. Also windows update seems reluctant to find any updates......Is there a keyboard driver for this model?I had no such problem with my S200 model re-installation. Any help would be appreciated, thanks..

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have a Commodore Laptop (Argentina) and all the keys that have a FN function attached to them do not work as their normal function any more - this happened after lending the laptop to my kids....

I think it may be FN lock, but can-t find any way to unlock it.

Any ideas please.

Many thanks.

A:Keys that have FN functions on them not working as normal keys

Check the Manual on the model's Support Downloads webpage for key combo to unlock: http://www.ehow.com/how_4968993_unlo...ey-laptop.html

Try updating or reinstalling the hotkeys driver from the model's Support Downloads webpage. Driver Install - Device Manager

While there look also for any downloadable fixes for these key functions or related.

It may also be disabled in msconfig>Startup. You can google the listings there to see what they're for. Normally you only need your AV checked and the rest are freeloaders, but some models require hotkey software to be running at startup if it provides anciliiary functions like backlighting, function toggling, etc.

Hello! So my notebook has a lovely function key line-up that lets me adjust screen brightness, turn the backlight on the keyboard, mute and adjust volume, pause/play/fast-forward/rewind, and turn the wi-fi on and off. I have never had a problem with these keys and use them all the time, but they all randomly stopped working a few days ago. I've tried pressing them in combination with the fn key, but they still don't work. And when I do press them, it seems like they are doing other stuff (for example, if I press f6/mute, the content of the google search/address  bar will become highlighted).  I thought maybe my cat stepped on some combo that turned the function keys off, but I haven't been able to find anything under "settings" that would allow me to turn them back on. I did the BIOS thing - they were already enabled in there, so I disabled, restarted, tried the keys with no luck, shut down, enabled, restarted, and they still don't work.  I've been browsing the forums and downloading drivers that people have posted, but that hasn't helped.  I've gone into the device manager and made sure my keyboard and monitor drivers are up to date.  I've tried going through HP support for updated drivers, however Windows 10 isn't an option for my notebook, only Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, and neither of those had a hotkeys support driver option anyway. And before you ask, I've been running Windows 10 for a long time now without any trou... Read more

Hi,

I've just had my laptop (windows 8.1) repaired with replacement hardware being installed. Something I have noticed that changed for the worse is how the brightness F keys do not respond. The F2 and F3 keys work themselves, but not the special function. It's really odd as the others work fine, such as volume.

I've tried uninstalling/installing two driver packs (I can't remember the names but one was Toshiba Utility Value or something are the other literally had the wording fn or f keys/keyboard in it). This has not worked.

Can someone help troubleshoot this for me? I'm sure when windows 10 comes along it all reset and hopefully work again but it's a very niggling annoyance at the moment.

Thanks.

A:Qosmio X870 - F keys special functions not working

Unisntall the Toshiba Value Added Package because this package isn?t compatible with Win 8.1 system

You need to install the :
Toshiba System Driver for Win 8.1
http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-...1016171635.zip

as well as the
Toshiba Function Key Utility for Win 8.1
http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-...1002134400.zip

Check also all the Win 8.1 64bit drivers available for this series.

I would recommend you to test the different graphic card drivers in case the display brightness would not work properly.

I purchased HP Pavilion 15-n209TX Laptop this year and the functions keys were working properly. But, later on from 10th of May 2014, they are not working! I checked whether there was a software due to which it was happening, but, I didn't install any kind of software which can harm the functioning of the keys. I am really struggling with very low brightness. The latest thing I did was - windows update - which installed the following softwares Microsoft Silverlight  Also, I installed HP Quick fix.  Whenever I press F2 or F3, it just shows the slidebar (it doesn't go up and down though) and when I click on the top of the slidebar, nothing happens again. I also tried to go to the brightness option in the Windows Mobility Centre and tried to adjust the brightness - but nothing is happening.  Please help me out with this issue.

I recently bought a second hand sony vaio ne20e notebook which is less than 2 year old .I have found that the Fn keys do not work and have tried fixing this with the relevant driver updates to no effect .
I have put the problem to sony support and they have raised a further problem .The notebook is running vista ultimate 32 bit but ,according to the serial no.,sony says it was sold with a vista ultimate business operating system .Becauseof this they are unable to help further.
I would really like to remove vista ultimate and replace it with vista home premium .This os is running perfectly on my other sony laptop .Can you advise if this is feasible and ,if so , how do I go about it ?
Alternatively will any of the "repair ,boot and recover discs " help with this fault ?

A:Function keys not working

If the laptop has a recovery partition, you can revert the OS back to the factory default OS. Or, the laptop may come with Recovery disks. You can also buy the Recovery disks from the manufacturer sometimes.

My backlight function keys don't always work. More often than not, they don't work, they simply do nothing. Moreover, if I try to manually change a setting in the power options, it doesn't change anything. I contacted HP via the online chat support, but they were less than helpful. The chat support agent I talked to clearly didn't know what they were doing. They suggested I reinstall all the ACPI drivers, update BIOS and update my video card driver....My ACPI drivers are all reinstalled recently (and really only one of them should matter), the BIOS was updated a week ago and my video card drivers are up to date according to device manager. The worst part of my experience is yet to come. The technician doubted my information and didn't want to trust that I knew what I was talking about, because they wanted me to open up things like msinfo32 and check my BIOS was up-to-date. Is it too much that I know something (I'm currently in a CS major so I know what I'm doing). They finally suggested I reformat the laptop (I have an HP Envy 17). I don't want to reformat and I don't know what else exactly to do. This isn't the first time chat support has been unsatisfactory but I know the keys sometimes work, suggesting the keys aren't broken and the software isn't completely messed up either. I am sure I don't need to reformat so here I am asking for some help. Thanks.

A:Dim function keys not working

The online chat seems doing right by checking video driver, ACPI and BIOS.If one of those components was not right, the brightness control (fn+f7/f8) will not function properly. Since they dont know what you or other software have done, the easy way is to recommend you to do HP system recovery.HP system Recovery with factory installed feature will determine either you have software or hardware issue easily. If the recovery dont help then 100% you have hardware issue. My suggestion is to follow what HP support steps.

A:T440p some Function keys not working

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that a few function keys of your Lenovo ThinkPad T440p is not working properly.

First of all, try reinstalling the hotkey integration features and power management driver.

Check if the keys are working in different applications. Some keys such as the function keys F1 through F12 will not work with every program. An easy way to test this is to open notepad or other word processing program and trying the key. Try getting into safe mode and see if the keys work. Remove the key from the keyboard and clean it. In some situations dirt, hair, dust, etc. can obstruct keys causing them not to work.

Please try to get into BIOS mode and see if the keyboard is working there.
1. If you are able to use the keyboard in BIOS, it could be a software issue. I would recommend in that case to do a System Restore which will revert the settings in your system to a previous time.
2. If keyboard doesn?t respond in BIOS as well, I strongly suggest you to contact our technical support for assistance.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

Best Regards,
Mithun.

I like the new keyboard better than the older one so want to use it.

Would there be drivers or something else needed to get this keyboard to work on the new computer?

Hi,I had to post this question because non of the solutions available on the internet worked for me. Some weeks ago, my FN + Function Keys stopped working on my HP ProBook 4540s. For example, FN + F7 = MUTE.I had updated all of my drivers, including the HP Hotkey Support driver for my laptop's model (even reinstalled); ran Keyboard Diagnostics in UEFI, everything was fine. I then decided to remap some of my keyboard keys to check if there was really a problem with my Windows and found out tthere was. Even after remapping, these combinationes weren't working. I thought to give it a try here in the forums before getting my laptopp serviced, I really don't think I need to do it because I believe there is some problem in the software like some option for this is disabled. But action keys was not even in the BIOS as others had (my BIOS was updated). Functions keys (F1-F12) were working, FN was working too but combinations aren't woking.  Hope someone helps me out,HDash_Tech

What Lenovo drivers control the function keys, or key combos?

Try using the Ctrl key instead of the Fn key, if that works then the only problem is that you installed the wrong middleton bios. It is distributed with both versions. Considering that all the problems you list include using either the Fn or Ctrl key, I'd say this is your likely your problem.

A:Brightness Function Keys( f2 and f3) NOT Working

Hi, Well that does explain why your f2/f3 keys aren't working as you only have the basic Microsoft driver installed - if the Intel driver was previously installed Ok, this may indicate a hardware issue. What happens if you try to install the Intel HD 5500 driver directly from Intel - it's the 2nd file in the list on the following link. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/search?keyword=Intel%C2%AE+HD+Graphics+5500+for+5th+Generation+Intel%C2%AE+Core%E2%84%A2+Processors If this does install Ok, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load for a couple of minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

Hi Dang

Every new notebook with preinstalled original recovery image (operating system) has preinstalled right drivers, tools and utilities so I?m really wondering you cannot use function keys.
Have you noticed some problem with certain keys or with al F keys?

You can try to fix it installing Toshiba system driver and Toshiba function key utility but my opinion is that you should, if possible, reinstall OS using HDD recovery option. After doing this notebook will have ?factory settings? again and everything should be OK again.

Hi. I have a Lenovo 3000 v100 laptop, and it comes with its own set of function keys. You press the "Fn" key and then whatever corresponding key for various functions. However, recently I had a malware attack, and although I think it was fixed (in this forum), some of these Fn keys don't work.
Specifically, Fn + F7 (Monitor Control) and Fn + F12 (Hibernate).
Also, the "Lenovocare" hard button and the "multimedia control" hard button also do not work.
This link : ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/41w3465.pdf
has a bit of infomration on the Fn keys in general.

Also, around the same time (I don't know if this is related), but when I go to Power Management in the Control Panel, the dropdown list of Power Schemes contains nothing and I cannot set any of the options (i.e. when to turn off, standby, etc).

I have tried downloading and installing the drivers again, as well as various antimalware scans. The keys by themselves work (f7 and f12), and the Fn key in general works, just not together.

Can anyone help?

Or can anyone perhaps suggest a more appropriate forum?

Please help with a keyboard problem on my desktop PC....

I have windows 7. I just discovered that some of the function keys on my generic dell usb keyboard (which doesn't have an F lock button) doesn't work. I say some because I only use some of them

F1 - it just beeps every time i hit it
F2 - it just beeps every time i hit it
F5 - it brings up my unikeynt program in the front
F3 - it just beeps every time i hit it
HOWEVER, F11 key does work, toggling between normal and full screen

I tried switching to another generic usb keyboard and have the same problem, so it's probably not keyboard related. I tried the same function keys within MS excel, and they do work as they are intended.

The function keys worked this morning and nothing was installed since then.

thank you

X1, model 20BSThe Special Function Keys have stopped working.  I downloaded and installed the latest hotkey drivers, but that didn't help.  How can I get the Special Function Keys running?

As the title states, since the last three days certain function keys have stopped working properly.Fn+ : F3/F5/F6/F7 have stopped working whilst FN+: F4/F8/F12/Up/Down/Left/Right/Delete/Home/PgUp/PgDn/End are still working normally. It's a rather annoying situation since I am unable to enable/disable the touchpad this way. I have tried reinstalling chipset, IO, Touchpad drivers as well as Acer ePower and Quick Access to fix the problem. I have updated the bios to the latest version of 1.37 and tried a system restore to a point where I didn't have this issue. Yesterday and today I have been able to get it to work for an hour or so, the first time I tried FN+Shift+Numlock and after that it worked again. Alas this option has not worked for me after that. Today I got it back to work after restarting all the applications of Quick Access. Unfortunatly after playing a game for an hour, it stopped working again... I have contacted live chat support, but the guy I was talking to had no idea what he was talking about. He didn't know his way around windows 10 and was unaware of the applications/drivers supporting this feature, he told me I had to look for HKserv and see if it was enabled, but this has never been on my pc and after a search on the internet I found that it isn't even applicable to my type of acer laptop, which in the end made him advice me to just reset my PC to factory defaults. Which is an option my grandmother could have come up with, which I am trying to avoi... Read more

Satellite P70-B-11P

My special function keys regularly stop working. For example, I often press the 2nd and 3rd function buttons to adjust the brightness of the display and nothing happens. In order to restore function, I need to open Toshiba System Settings/Function Key. I do not need to do anything further, not even the Apply or OK buttons. When I then close System Settings the special function keys work correctly again.

Whilst this work-around corrects things temporarily, I feel that I should not need to go through this procedure every time I use the computer. Does anyone know of a permanent solution, please?

A:Satellite P70-B-11P - Special function keys stop working

It has occurred to me that this problem may have arisen because something in the 'start up' list has been disabled. If so, I can easily enable it, but I'm afraid I have no idea what to look for.
I'd be grateful for any advice.

Hey all, i got one more problem with my Vaio .After i reinstalled Windows XP Pro (don't have original sony recovery cd), the function keys stopped working. I mean ones to change brightness of the screen, volume, switch to external monitor. The ones that can be accessed by pressing "Fn"+key. I'm not talking about those dedicated keys that aren't on the keyboard. I did downloaded ALL drivers that were on sony drivers page, but function keys are still inoperable. I looked in BIOS and there was option to switch between 3 different modes of Fn. It said that if Function keys aren't working, i might want to switch between those 3 and see whichever will work. I tried switching, restarted pc every time, but Fn keys still aren't working. It's Sony Vaio VGN-FS640 (1.6 Pentium M Centrino, 512mb ram...)http://esupport.sony.com/perl/swu-list.pl?...teType=OriginalI"m thinking about getting Sony Recover CD and reinstalling windows, perhaps it has some hidden drivers for "Fn". Any other ideas?Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi,
Go to BIOS and check with factory defaults. and reboot the laptop
then check with the function keys, and check wiht F8 key also, if it works then problem lies with the OS

Hello, Good morning/ evening ...
I'm using ( Satellite U920T) and recently upgraded my tablet to Windows 10
but after that, the function keys, volume, brightness, FN key, and even the backlight doesn't work anymore !!

I have tried to recover the system and to update driver's software but nothing worked ..

I use these keys all the time and now it's really hard without them !!

What's the problem? what should I do?

A:Satellite U920T - Function keys not working after update to Win 10

The problem is that Satellite U920T isn’t listed as Win 10 supported unit and therefore the Win 10 Toshiba drivers and software which controls the FN keys isn’t released.
But as far as I know to use the FN keys, the Toshiba System driver as well as Flash Card Support Utility must be installed.

For all Toshiba Win 10 supported units, the drivers can be downloaded from this page:
http://win10upgrade.toshiba.com/swup...spx?region=TEG

Maybe you could try the drivers released for other Win 10 supported notebook models…
I’m not quite sure if the software will be fully compatible with your U920T model but its definitely worth a try…

I currently am trying to get my Sony drivers all installed onto my computer after formatting it. Normally, I wouldn't think I'd run into an issue with simply installing drivers, but it appears to do nothing for me after installing and re-installing tons of drivers off of Sony's website. I have a Sony Vaio VPCSC41FM laptop. Just hoping to see if anyone else has run into this issue and has resolved it, as I've spent days working on this to no further extent of accomplishment.

A:Function keys and stamina/speed switch not working

Your problem may be that you have to press the "fn" key plus the function key, some manufacturers do this.  So to make the F1 work for example, you press and hold the "fn" key, and press the F1 key.

On my computer (its not a Sony), I have to go into the "bios" and change the "Action Keys Mode" to "Enabled".  This may be different on your computer.
Best of luck!
Have a great day!

Hello,

I have a R840 with Win7 Professional 64 bit.

My last problem: the Fn keys stops working (for example I can't use the brightness up or down with the F6/F7 key). After restarting everything is normal....untill it stops working in the near future (next day or so!!!!).

I uninstalled the value pack and reinstalled...no sucess!
I uninstalled completelly the value pack...no sucess!

Any help?

Thanks,
paulo

>untill it stops working in the near future (next day or so!!!!).

The Fn buttons are controlled by Flash Card Support Utility?
This Flash Card Support Utility can be found under All Programs -> Toshiba
So you need to restart the Flash Cards to get the Fn buttons working again
