DESKWIZZ and BANNERS SEARCHINGBOOTH

Q: DESKWIZZ and BANNERS SEARCHINGBOOTH

Please help me. When I open IE, my home page opens (comcast), and then suddenly a new IE page opens over it with an address "www.media.deskwizz.com" and pop-up ads start springing up in the blank space of the page and there's some "search companion" panel on the left side of the screen in place of my "favorites". You can close that page and it will go back to the comcast home page... then another overlay page appears "www.banners.searchingbooth.com" and ads start popping up again. I have spent DAYS on this, ran all kinds of things... it is driving me insane. NOTHING WORKS and I can't find ANY info on it. I have Windows XP Professional. Can someone look at this HIJACK THIS log for me please and offer up some assistance???? Thanks much.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I am having some serious issues with banners.searchingbooth popups. I am pretty sure the file xpjriek.exe is causing it. Just curious as to what you guys think. Also if there is anything else on there that is fishy.
Thanks

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Please download Ad-aware at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ and install it if you don't have it already. Make sure it's the newest version and check for any updates before running it. Also go to http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/...2cleaner.shtml to download the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. To run this tool, go into Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 ... Read more

Hi,
I have deskwizz pop-up in IE and saw other posts on here that successfully got rid of it.

Can somebody recommend what to delete in the Hijackthis log?

So far I have done the following:
1. create a restore point in Windows
2. Ran Adaware with latest definitions
3. Ran Spbot with latest definiations

Hi, I have a pc that is really hit hard with malware. It have the latest defs from Spybot, Ad-Aware, Windows Defender and Ewido and have run multiple scans with them in safe mode. I have also run ccleaner, Stinger and Qoofix. I did a Panda online scan. This pc is part of a network and also has symantec corporate anti-virus. When I am in safe mode everything is fine but when I start up normally they all come back. I have gone on this site before and posted a log about a coworkers home pc, this is the first one of my companies pc's that have been infected (Small company, I am what passes for Sys admin here). The windows firewall has also been broken, I am pretty sure I will need to repair windows but I am hoping to clean it first so I can avoid reformatting the hard drive, no important data on there but I have a lot of programs on there, plus it would be nice to defeat the malware just on principal. Hello there and welcome to Bleeping Computer's security forum. My name is David, I will be helping you with your log today. It is a good idea to print off these instructions:This will be useful as there is a possibility some of the instructions will need to be carried out where internet access is not available. You may also like to save these instructions in word/notepad to the desktop where they can be easily found for the same reasons as above. A print out of the instructions would be a good reference to make sure you don't yet lost. Also, it is important that you complete the instructions in the right order, and also that you don't miss any steps out!If you have any queries about the process or just general questions, just ask.Your system is terribly infected. The problem with these infections nowadays is, it causes a lot of damage. Even if we clean the malware off your system, I can't guarantee that your system will be clean afterwards, because these infections/bundles leave a lot of leftovers behind that most scanners won't even recognise and logs won't show. Also, I can't promise you we can repair all the damage it caused... Even after cleaning the malware, you can still get errors afterwards because of the damage. Solving these is not always possible since it will be searching for a needle in a haystack to find the right cause and solution. So, we can try to clean this up and do what we can, but keep in mind that we can't solve ALL problems this malware already caused... Read more

Quote Papakid:" Just for everyone's information, Smitfraud.C is Spybot S&D's name for a type of Vundo/Conhook infection. I wish they would call it something else because it is confusing. Smitfraud is a generic description of any application/trojan that hijacks the desktop to give fake warnings that you are infected or have errors and need to download their program to fix it, only telling you later you have to pay for the fix. Vundo is associated with the rogue app Winfixer, among others, but it is a completely different infection from what is more commonly known as Smitfraud and SmitfraudFix is not designed to fix it."Use the Vundofix tool in the link below.http://www.atribune.org/content/view/24/2/Install Super Antispyware. For some reason i cant se any banners...i think the internet explorer desconfigurate somehow...is there anyway i can configurate it again?

A:Can;t see banners

Download WinsockFix and unzip it. Then double-click on it to run it.

Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Double click on the program to run it.

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. The result.txt file will open up in Notepad. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. We do not need the original hijackthis.log (unless we ask for it). Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

I downloaded a couple of spyware programs. They scanned and indicated that I had some bad files.
For a fee, they would correct. I did not have the money so I erased both. One of them left me a nasty

I suspect to have been infected with rogue antispyware, which in it's self is malware.
Please post what the name of the software is, and the nastygram states word for word. I have no doubt we will be able to help.

I dont have the normal ads and banners appear on some sites in vista. I know its a security thing, but I feel like some websites are incomplete.

My example is www.nme.com. If you see the ads on the right hand colum and on the top, well i receive them on my xp machine, but on my vista laptop they are just white blank.

Is there a setting I need to switch on? I dont think I have flash installed either.

Ever notice that no matter where you go there are banners and ads everywhere...and I believe that they are at the root cause of malware and spyware development. I'm sik of bannars and ads. The day a mcdonalds add appears below the mound is the day I stop watchin ball. Hockey is already ruined. Well hockeys another issue...its actually a twice baked potatoe now...and I wouldnt watch it if some one paid me. But a few years back at least the Ice was clear of adds...boards to for most part. Look at a hockey rink now...well last years pics...mcdonalds and beer ads all over the ice.

Anyway...can I make my computer block bannars? Can it be done??? When I wuz a college boy I knew a kid that had linux setup so he never got bannars. But can this be done on windows? Thanks. -joe

Recently I got my own web site on Geocities. After figuring out how to use it, I have a problem.
I want to put links to groups I like and am a member of (like Immortal Beloveds, TFAR, etc). Not just any link though, I mean the banners (also things like ribbons, etc). Trouble is that I do not know how to do this. They say to download it to my computer. How do I do this, and then how would I transfer to my web site.
One link told how to download with HTML, but I did my site without HTML (Geocities lets you do this). So, can I put HTML on a document that does not contain any HTML?
By the by, I run Windows ME on a HP Pavilion 6830.

For the past couple of days, whenever I have loaded up a website which contains an ad banner on it, 99% of the time the ad banner would not load up, causing the entire page to come up as a "Cannot find server" or DNS error (unless I stop the loading of the page before it attempts to retrieve the ad). This problem has come up for many different websites and many different ad providers (doubleclick, flycast, burstnet etc.). For a few minutes last night, the problem was temporarily OK, but then it reverted. This problem has come up both with MSIE 5 and Netscape 6 (although w/ Netscape, the error message did not cause the entire page to come up as an error, but rather just caused a pop-up window message). My operating system is Windows 98.
Any ideas? Thanks.

My ISP is constantly placing ad banners at the top of the screen. I don't know how this is done, whether it's part of the software programme that gets me online or what, but it can be very irritating. It's partly to do with the fact that this is one of a very small number of low-cost ISPs which are generally still not as cheap here in Britain as I believe they are in the USA, but it would be helpful to bi-pass these ads.

I am in desparate need of help.

Just registering on this forum and navigating through it took me 10 times longer than it should have. I couln't find any other posts regarding this topic, so please excuse me if this is a repeat.

I am unable to do anything on the internet anymore. Almost every time I click on a link, I am redirected to a page that is a blank white background with a banner for Amazon.com. I tried running "spybot search and destroy" and "ad-aware" but to no avail. I am crippled right now. Every time I do anything on the internet now, I am constantly clicking link>back>back to get to where I wanted to be. The back>back is to go back from the Amazon banner pages.

FYI I am running IE6 and WindowsXP.

Thank you in advance!

How do I stop advertising banners from coming onto sites that I'm visiting.

A:Stopping banners

If the adds are appearing on the site then you cannot stop them, but if they are popping up in new windows you may be infected with adware.

Run this program and post the log.

Click on this link to download : ADWCleaner Click on the Download Now button and save it to your desktop.

NOTE: If using Internet Explorer and you get an alert that stops the program downloading click on Tools > Smartscreen Filter > Turn off Smartscreen Filter then click on OK in the box that opens. Then click on the link again.

Close your browser and double click on this icon on your desktop:

You will then see the screen below, click on the Scan button (as indicated), accept any prompts that appear and allow it to run, it may take several minutes to complete, when it is done click on the Clean button, accept any prompts that appear and allow the system to reboot. You will then be presented with the report, Copy & Paste it into your next post.

I currently am have a problem with some banners on a web site not showing up.....using Windows XP home on a laptop....

Some banners show up on the site and others don't....don't know if this is a browser settings problem or what....

The site in question is a local Chamber of Commerce site where members join at on of three levels.....when I go to the site, only one of the levels shows it's banner....the other two levels of membership only show generic buttons instead of the members banner???

All banners are gif format and created the same way....the various banners show up on different pages of the site.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hello everybody.

I hate banner ads as much as the next guy, but when I see banner ads that have the address "ad.doubleclick.net" or something like that, they do not display.

They will just say Action Canceled.

I have attached a screenshot from the TSG homepage, and you will see the banners are not displaying.

Any ideas on why this might be happening?

Thanks

-Mark

P.S. It doesn't happen on some websites...

I am trying to print a 40 inch long banner. (I will generally be

banner, only the first page prints. Everything then stops like the
print job was completed. I get great one page banners but....

I am using a PC running XP with an HP Deskjet 5650 printer. I then tried to print a

Juyst a guess-but there is a place for a checkmark on the HP PRINT screen.

A:A Ad Banner to end all Ad Banners the M$ way!

part of article
Windows XP systems connected to the Internet will automatically install the new software in the middle of the night when no one is looking. Click to expand...

i have that setting turned off in my computer. (damn auto update. its evil!) lol

but tha'ts really funny. however, i havent seen the bsod in my xp machine. and if i have, its a lighter blue. and has much nice text. i think its tahoma or arial. unlike the other one which was like..who knows what. it was ugly.

but ywah, when my system crashes, it doenst show the bsod, it just restarts, and when its done, i log back in, and THEN it tells me "your compie survived a crash, click here to send the crash info to your friends and microsoft."

i think this is an opportunity for them to use personalised target advertising. simply have the poeple asnwer a few questions about what they like and what they buy, and all advertisemenst via the BSOD, will be personalised for the user to increase sales.

if all goes well, i expect to see video game advertisements in MY blue screen of death.

I am having something occur i've never seen before.

Website banners (728x90, 250x250, 300x250, etc) on any website I visit are being hijacked & replaced.

The banners are all driven by the following (when you click on them)

ad.scanmedios.com
ad.yieldmanager.com
ad.optimizedby.rmxads.com
ad.adserverplus.com
ads.quixsurf.com

Again - banners on just about any website i visit are being replaced by the above listed urls which then forward to an ad.

No pop ups.

I do not see any of these banners occur using firefox, ie7 only.

I am using winxp sp3.

Scans of adaware 2008, avg, kapersky, showed nothing. I also ran combofix - and online trojan scanner - still nothing.

I've never seen this one before - any suggestions?

My computer started getting a massive amount of pop-ups a few days ago. I even had audio coming through my speakers telling me about a great new easy way of making money with no open programs!! I have run several different virus, adware, and spyware scanners at this point and removed quite a lot of things. Unfortunately, I still can't seem to shake one of them. I have the trial version of Norton running, and every 10 minutes exactly, I get the following message:

Details: Attempted Intrusion "HTTP QuickBrowser Activity" from your machine against www.top-banners.com was detected and blocked.
Intruder: LAPPY(1239).
Risk Level: High.
Protocol: TCP.
Attacked IP: www.top-banners.com.
Attacked Port: http(80).

The number in parenthesis after LAPPY increases with each notification unless I restart; then it starts over again.

I have searched every forum and support site, and ran just about every scanner there is. But, nothing seems to work. I also posted a HijackThis log in the other forum, but no one has replied thus far. I hope someone can help me get rid of this. I am not looking forward to reinstalling windows.

Thanks.
