Cant type text into input boxes on browser - Opera

Q: Cant type text into input boxes on browser - Opera

Hi guys, just wondering if you can please help me? Sorry if this message is a little messy, but I'm typing it into the address bar and right click pasting it into the message input box within the browser. For some reason I can only type into the adress bar on my browser. I can't type into any fields within the window itself. I discovered this whilst on Youtube this evening. I've never had this problem before. I'm currently using Opera with Windows 8, but have not been able to find a solution online. Any help wouldbe appriciated thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have recently found that I can't type text into browser dialogue boxes. This occurs in Firefox, Chrome and IE. I have found a suggestion at the following link:

Can't type into some text fields in any browser on Windows 7 - Super User

that this may be due to the file mshtml.dll not being properly registered. I have tried registering (and unregistering) the file using the command regsrv32 /i (or/u) mshtml.dll but I get the following message:

'The module "mshtml.dll was loaded but the entry-point DllUnregisterServer (DllRegisterServer.dll) was not found.

Make sure that mshtml.dll is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again.'

I have run syschk (sfc /scannow) to see if some system file is missing, but it shows no problems.

I suspect this may be a registry problem, but have no clue how to fix. Any idea?

I recently started using my brothers computer because it's faster then mine. I brought it into my room, and plugged my own mouse, keyboard, monitor, etc. into it. However I took the video card (ATI Radeon 9250) from my old computer and installed it into his becase it's better. When I turned the computer on and installed the driver for the video card, I had an unusual problem. I was unable to highlight any text on the computer, and I was unable to type into text boxes such as the Google search bar or even the one used to change passwords in the Windows User Accounts. No text field will work, it won't even let me click into them (the flashing line doesn't show up, indicating I can type).

I have tried everything to fix this, I used my brothers mouse, keyboard and monitor, I've updated the video card driver, ran virus scans, but nothing. And now when I remove the new video card and use the one with the computer (I uninstalled the drivers as well), it still won't work. It was never like this before, did I somehow permanently damage the computer? I was very careful when I put in the video card. I have never heard of this problem before, and it's driving me insane. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

I use IE7 on Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

I cannot type in any IE text box. (But I can type in the URL bar.)

I hardly use IE, so I don't know what updates, downdates, registry tweaks, etc might have caused this problem

BTW: I've been blocking the download of IE8, until any problems are solved. (I'm not saying there are problems - I'm just saying that I'm happy to wait.

I was on a few different websites when I noticed this.

I was on songsterr.com looking at tabs and when I went to type in an artist's name into the search box it simply says "Internet Explorer has stopped working..." and it will close whatever site I was at. I can usually get 2-3 letters in before the message appears.

I also noticed this when I tried logging into my online Sirius.com account. I launch the online radio player and when I go to type in my account details it stops me after about 3 letters and closes it after showing me the same message.

Very annoying especially since Firefox/Chrome offer no support for the Sirius.com player.

I've been using Firefox for sometime and have heard some good things about the Opera browser. Although I'd never leave Firefox, it will always be my default; I'd just like to try Opera. So I'm looking for thoughts on this browser. Plus & negatives.

A:input on Opera browser

I've been using Opera as my default browser for about two and a half years now and like it very much.

I haven't had any problems with sites that don't work or anything similar and, whenever a security issue comes up (which is not that often!), it is fixed quickly. Obviously, it comes fully configured so there are no extensions to play with, which I am happy about, but it can be 'tweaked'.

I don't know if there is anything in the argument that Opera and Firefox are only 'safer' because they are still in a minority so the bad guys can't be bothered to write exploits for them. I think it is probably as much to do with the fact that the alternatives don't have the components that can be easily exploited eg: Active X.

There's a Wikipedia article with some interesting stuff (always bearing in mind that it is written by fans and that there is no guarantee as to the accuracy of anything on Wikipedia);http://operawiki.info/WhyOpera

I do have a copy of Firefox as a standby but don't use it much.

Hello,

When I am on the Internet using either IE or Firefox, and I go to type into text boxes or forms, including new emails for Gmail or in social media boxes, my computer lags behind what I type and what gets displayed onto the screen. It is not in real time and very frustrating. It is intermittent but consistent. Most is displayed correctly but then portions (or strings) are not and then it suddenly "catches up" or in social media's case, parts of the portion are truncated.

Also, I have noticed that in Firefox when I go to switch from one tab to another there is a major delay. Doesn't happen so much in IE.

Another interesting phenomena is when I am writing a new Gmail message and paste some text into the box, the cursor appears at the end of the pasted string but is totally unresponsive when I continue typing. I have to use my mouse and 'click' at the end of the sentence before I continue on with my message.

This is a newer unit. I have tried troubleshooting with various tools but to no avail. I ran chkdsk but it didn't generate a report for me and it ran at start up. I have run a benchmark but do not know how to read it. I also have a Speecy report but I t... Read more

I have a serious problem. One of the client computers I administrate where I work is not displaying text in some dialog/alert boxes and many properties boxes. This started two days ago; today, Internet Explorer does not display web sites correctly: boxes where the user can enter text to search are appearing as small squares too small to type and read, and the buttons in the web sites are reduced to thin lines and no text in them. Finally, Outlook 2000 no longer displays any of the folders (Inbox, tasks, contacts). This also occurred today.

But here is the truly strange part. It only happens under one user logon. Under a different user logon, there are no problems with Internet explorer, dialog/alert or properties boxes or Outlook 2000. And the user can access her mailbox from another machine without problems.

The computer is running Windows 2000 Pro, SP-2 and is attached to a company network and domain. I believe that the user's file may be corrupt in some way that is causing these errors to occur only when that one person is logged on. And that user has not added additional software to the computer because only the Network and Client Admins have the authority to install programs.

So far I've run an anti-virus program, run Detect and Repair on Office 2000 Premium and run the Emergency Repair Utility from the Windows 2000 Pro disc... twice. But nothing has improved. I'm at my wits end.

Does anybody have any other suggestions?

Is it a keyboard problem? I tried another keyboard and the same thing happens.

Copies text boxes into another existing file and the text changes size and will not fully show inside text box ie. it is chopped off. If copies text boxes into a brand new document, the paste is fine, all sizes correct.

When doing the paste, smart tag option of keep source formatting is selected but this seems to make no difference.

Any ideas?

Since you copy into an existing file, have you tried to enlarge the text area into which you copy in the existing file - try doing it before you copy into the text box if that is possible.

A:Solicit user info using input boxes

First of all, "month" is not an acceptable variable name. It's what's called a reserved word; you should at least name it something like strMonth. Not that I think that's what's causing your problem, but it's important to learn to name variables correctly.

The problem is in your syntax. You're asking the app to open the file called W:\Comptrol\Corp_Rep\MONTHEND\2002\Monthly Stewardship\OPEX\*month*.xls--you have your variable enclosed in quotes, and therefore it's looking for the literal string "month".

The line in question should read

Workbook$ = Dir(Path$ & "*" & month & "*.xls")

though I believe that using the asterisks this way will still cause you problems, as you cannot control which file is returned at which moment. Not a problem, I suppose, if only one file in the folder contains the month in question.

I LOVE my new Yoga 900 except for one strange problem.  In  a few applications, such as Norton Security Suite when I went to install it and Yahoo Messenger, the font and especially the input boxes are so tiny as to be worthless.  Weirdly enough Messenger was fine until just now when it too shrunk.  I've tried increasing the display setting to something higher than the reccomended size of 250 per cent, this increases the desktop icon size as well as other applications but the affected ones are still tiny. Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated!

A:Yoga 900 - REALLY Tiny Fonts and Input Boxes in some Applications

I am having similar problems, but I believe it's caused by such a high resolution display which can't be run at its native resolution because of the extremely small text and icons that this produces.   But, running it in the recommended 250% zoom apparently has its own troubles, causing weird reponse windows, etc.   The VLC player for instance, has buttons so small that you can't tap them. I hope that there will be a workaround for this. Frankly, I wish I had a 1080p display, since so far I can't see the advantage of a 4K display on such a small screen.

I operate with Windows 10 on my Lenovo YOGA 900-1315K Model: 80MK s/n: PFOEZAVXSome of my applications open up showing tiny incons and tiny fonts, which cannot be read and cannot be clicked/operated, as they are too small. I used the same applications on my previous laptop which also operated on Windows 10, and did not have that problem. One application I urgently need to work with is the SONY Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.0 although the same features appear when I use the HP Print & Scan Doctor. One cannot read the font, it is sooo small. Please can someone help.  Thanks

Welcome to the forums.

Since the screen on a Yoga 900 is a QHD+ you will need to adjust the display settings.

1) Go to Settings > Display
2) Set resolution to 1920*1080
3) Also, choose medium (125%) for the text and other items size.
4) Click Apply and Restart the system (for full effect)

If you are still not satisfied, you will have to repeat Step 3 and 4 with appropriate size (depending on if you now want them to be smaller or larger).

Check this microsoft article for some details -

A:IE 6: can't select a text box to input text

The symptoms you describe indicate the presence of CoolWebSearch, especially the inability to fill out forms.

Neither Spybot nor Adaware is effective in getting rid of CoolWebSearch but there is a removal tool that works. You can download it from this SpywareInfo page.

ok, here's another vb problem.

With the text box control. I gave it a vertical scrollbar using its scrollbar property. The text box is used to receive messages from another machine (chat program). now, whenver the text in the box exceeds the height of the box this is what happens:

1. scrollbar appears
2. txtbox is refocused to top of box
3. new text is printed at the bottom of the box
4. any new text that appears in the box repeats steps 2 & 3.

I want to be able to have the text box autoscroll, so that whenever new text is entered, the box stays focused on the new text. instead of refocusing at the top of the box.

I amusing Word 97/Win98
When I use "format - text direction" in a text box and set it vertical it shows on screen and in print preview, but prints an empty box.

I have another problem which might be related.
I have inserted two pictures. One of the behaves normally, but the other does not show in print preview or print.

I would appreciate any help.

A:text boxes

Did you check to make sure that there is NO FILL on the font and fill buttons?
Not sure why it would print an empty box, and show it as it should in the print preview, but it's worth a shot anyway! I'm usually pretty good with all MS OFFICE applications....let me know!

Hi G0N,

Which browser are you using?

Do you mean that things are already filled into spaces when you get there? If you are using Internet Explorer, Autocomplete maybe turned on. There is a setting to let autocomplete help with forms. That setting can be cleared/ and is found by:

Clicking TOOLS on the top toolbar and selecting OPTIONS.
A window will open - click on the CONTENT tab.
Click on the AutoComplete Button - located in the personal information section.
The AutoComplete window will open. Uncheck the FORMS check box and click on clear forms.

I hope this helps,

Rigel

This is not earth shattering but I have often wondered.

Sometimes the "Descriptive Text Boxes" that come up when you hover over your quick launch icons don't work, then they just start working again. Is this just another one of those Window's anomalies.

A:Text Boxes

I've seen where you have a partial crash and the icons in the activity box by the time go away, then you reboot and they come back, maybe it's due to a partial crash, perhaps just a "welcome to windows", perhaps, just PFM..

After IE11 is being installed by many teachers, they pull up yahoo or google and do a search. After the search results are displayed, we can no longer type in the search box now. Tried activating compatibility mode for the site. Also cannot select some drop

A:Cannot type in search boxes on IE11

Hi,
Firstly, we need to check the following:
1.  Do you mean the issue is only occurred on yahoo and google website?
2.  How about other browsers? Do they also meet the same issue?
Based on your description, I would like to suggest you try the following to check the issue:
1. To get the latest adobe flash player
Download and install the latest flash player on your computer by visiting the link below.
Install Adobe Flash Player
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
2.  Run Internet Explorer Performance Troubleshooter.
The Internet Explorer Performance Troubleshooter is an automated tool which will check for any performance issues which are common with the Internet Explorer on the computer and

provides the details on how to fix them. Follow these steps and run the troubleshooter.
a. Press ?Windows Logo? + ?W? keys from the keyboard.
b. Type ?Troubleshooting? in the search bar and press ?Enter?.
c. In the ?Troubleshooting? window, click on ?View All? on the left pane.
d. Click on ?Internet Explorer Performance?.
e. Click on ?Advanced? and then click on ?Run as Administrator?.
f. Click ?Next? and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.
3. Run IE with no add-ons as Rob said. Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Internet Explorer (with no add-ons).

4. Reset Internet Explorer settings

My IE crashes consistantly after typing in a box (such as what I want to search for) and clicking on the GO or SEARCH or whatever button. No error messages, just dies. Ctl-alt-del reports it is not responding. Any other surfing seems to work OK.

It happened immediately after turning off some of the Administrative Services (my attempt to streamline the machine dedicated to video editing - and IE for keeping drivers up to date). I followed guidelines and was carefull not to change the setting of anything I couldn't understand. But changing the setting from Automatic to Manual such things as Fax Service. After I noticed the problem, I manually started all of the services that could possibly have anything to do with it one by one and testing IE. Nothing. I then ran the "repairer" (don't remember what they called it - got it by going to Remove Programs.) It ran and rebooted but did not corrrect the problem. I then uninstalled IE (tho the icon was still on the task bar and was able to open IE---->???) I reinstalled - still broke.

Its IE 5.5, Win2000. Any ideas?

Thanks!
Jaums

A:Internet Explorer - Can't Type in Boxes

5.5 just ain't what it should be, yet. And as for uninstalling, MS is funny, they tell you it's uninstalled, but certain components of Office won't work without it. Sounds like you changed a lot of things at once, which is tricky. Have you read the following?

Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 2

A TSG link which might help: IE Upgrade?

Otherwise I'd say post back with what you turned off & when, and others will have other ideas...

Opera's wand only saves certain info, I don't think you can get it save form fields the way IE and Firefox do. Somebody else might know how to do this though (we'll see if Shadow reads this thread )

I have an issue with text boxes within Windows XP & all applications. The font in all related applications now falls outside of the text boxes e.g. MS Outlook 2007, Options - all of the wording appears bolded and is to big for the text box. All of the text boxes in applications are also now shifted off-center to the right. Also, the appearance & spacing of the Start Menu items has been slightly modified.

I have had this once before and did stumble across a setting in a program which fixed it but cannot find now. IE & Firefox normal. DPI & appearance settings within Diplay properties unchanged.

I have an application that creates its output as a Word file. However, the file consists of many individual text boxes and editing is a chore. Is there a way to eliminate the text boxes and have the result be a normal word document? I want to preserve the text location and properties that was contained in the boxes.

A:Remove text boxes

You need to mention what is the software that you are using and what are you converting from. I assume that you trying to convert from PDF to word. In that case most softwares use the textbox method and I am afraid theres no work around to that. You can either get proper layout with textboxes OR just text with no layout
