Avast flags Firefox Sync, FFox blocks Untrusted/invalid Cert

Q: Avast flags Firefox Sync, FFox blocks Untrusted/invalid Cert

MODS: Please move if incorrect forum

Threads developing @ Avast & BC:
Avast flagging Firefox Sync - Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware Software

FFox Sync hosted on Amazon server farm; Doesn't appear to be FP per User Sirmer's reply #22

we will remove this detection from our black list but there was a bit problem because this domain is also hosting of newly generated malicious sites, it was a block reason.

Preferred Solution: Avast flags Firefox Sync, FFox blocks Untrusted/invalid Cert

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Got to love the upgrade now popup message
Typical of a company that has a paid for version and a free version.

Weird. IP supposedly resolves to Amazon http://www.speedguide.net/ip/
Started tonight, thread developing @ Avast Forum here: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=166531.new#new
Anyone else having this problem? (screenshot below)

EDIT TO ADD Per user Techknow @ Avast Forum: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=166531.msg1185662#msg1185662From my understanding this is simply a Mozilla service that is located on Amazon's server farm.  Pretty standard.
Avast blocking it is another Avast false positive.  I'm not sure why Avast hasn't fixed it in a timely manner - they have been notified through their labs and obviously by multiple people on their forum.

This has happened before. The current report to the avast forums was made yesterday...I see you replied there too.One of the users there already reported the issue to avast so now it is just wait and see.

Hi, I have had a rash of firewall warnings from the same place with different ip addresses saying there was an invalip tcp flag, exactly what is that? And is there anything that I can do legally? I have emailed them about abuse several times, but it doesn't stop, I sent them everything I found on it, all the ip addresses and timestamps. Now I want to, if possible to sue this company if they are doing something illegal, or trying to.

A:invalid tcp flags

What is your firewall, and what are the IP addresses? Did you check to see who it was? It might actually be your ISP pinging you to see if the IP address you are using is being used, that is if you have a dial-up. If it's a cable modem then perhaps your being scanned by scanners?

When on my google homepage I try to open gmail or to sign out og my google account, I get an "Untrusted Connection" box stating that the gmail certificate is invalid. I've seen many posts elsewhere suggesting I check the date function on computer (which I've done and it is correctly set). also saw an older posting here suggesting the user run Hijack This. We ran a "scan with logfile" but got messages that (1) system denied write access to hosts file . . . and (2) particularly large number of hijacked domains. Don't really have any idea where to go from here. Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Ok so my sister used my computer for a little bit, downloaded some stuff and now I've noticed that all websites are unauthorized. The time/date is correct and I can't risk giving my information away if I can help it.

Now I read in another thread to run comfix.exe - which I did. (afterwards I realized your rules said NOT to do it until asked to..sorry bout that)

And now I have a log in notepad with everything it found. I know that it found a rootkit, whatever that is...however my problem remains, that all websites are unauthorized.

Any chance I can get some advice? I'd be extremely grateful. I can provide the log on request, and I shall respond to this topic when asked to by anyone interested.

For a long time, I've had an issue with mainly firefox (though once in awhile google chrome and cometbird will also do this, but only rarely) where when I try to get onto sites like:

Sooner or later, the message itself will disappear and let me onto the site, but it has been happening much more frequently now and I have no idea why. I've run Malware Antimalware and it it tells me there's nothing wrong.

Hi there,my name is Marius and I will assist you with your malware related problems. Before we move on, please read the following points carefully.First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding.Perform everything in the correct order. Sometimes one step requires the previous one.If you have any problems while following my instructions, Stop there and tell me the exact nature of your problem.Do not run any other scans without instruction or add/remove software unless I tell you to do so. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me.Post all logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. If you can not post all logfiles in one reply, feel free to use more posts. If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.Stay with me. Hi, having problems with my XP machine, when from the google homepage I try to access GMAIL I get following error:
This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Firefox to connect
securely to www.google.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect securely,
sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are
going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.

blah blah blah.....

I've seen similar posts but don't know how to fix it, the date/time is fine, should I download this hijack thing to get a logfile generated?

any help would be great, it's really bugging me!

I'm ready to pull my hair out. This just started after taking my computer to the shop (if you ask nicely, I'll share the nightmare).

I have no problem with Startpage, Bing, Duck Duck Go or Yahoo. Just Google. Homepage (news.google.com) loads fine. No problem. Then I click their stupid box (upper right), click Search and the main Google page comes up. I enter a search term(s). Results show. I click a link and I get (attached jpeg) this. I did some researching and saw to go in and delete the cert8.db file and restart Firefox. Which I did. Didn't solve the problem. Google search is the ONLY place that I have this problem.

I'm at my wit's end.

If anyone is familiar with the program Allway sync, I could use some advice.
I am having this problem on a windows 7 machine, but not on any windows XP machines...
I have Allway sync set up to backup the filepath C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook, which is a folder containing the MS outlook .pst files.
Allway sync cannot perform a synchronization with outlook open (which is expected, and not a problem).
However, if Allway sync is running (jobs are not stopped/paused), and I go to run outlook, it will not open and I get an error message saying that another program is using file content and is blocking outlook from accesing it, so it cannot open.
I may just have to disable Allway sync when I want to use outlook, but this would be dissapointing since Allway sync is supposed to be an opperator free program.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm having a few issues that are causing me concern, in my paranoia I'm questioning everything that seems odd, here's one:

I keep a few of my own web pages on my hard-drive to use as a mini home-site. None of the pages contain anything more than straight html tags - no active components, no javascript not even CSS.

Whenever I open one of these (by setting one as a home page or by linking from one to another, IE7 and Firefox (with NoScript) both tell me that active scripts have been blocked on them.

Is this normal?

One of my concerns is that a virus could be trying to attach script to my plain old html.

So i ran across a website in hunt for a new wallpaper in google images. The site (***.ryylxjw.com) was instantly blocked by Avast as infectious.
As far as i can tell Avast blocks 15 items on the site and refuse to open it. Seen in retroperspective i should have noticed that the url was, lets say, a bit odd but i didnīt check at the time since i was clicking on an image.
You can see what image i was clicking on in the upladed image.

Anyway, i went to VT and scanned the url and the scan says 0/68. So now iīm a bit lost to what Avast is protecting me from?
Is it a real threat or a FP???

Not sure if this is the correct forum but i had a hard time finding a place for this question.

Hey everyone! I got a problem with my Firefox browser that started yesterday, and was really weird. I'll describe in detail what happened. It's very strange and I've never seen anything like it before. So, here I go.
Yesterday, I clicked on my "Home" button in Firefox, only to find that my home page would not load. Instead of my home page, I got a warning in a foreign language that prompted me to install something, and it was a Firefox page, or at least it looked like one. I believe the language is Spanish. The icon of the item that I was supposed to install was an Adobe Flash icon or something very similar. I tried installing it, but nothing happened. Tried several times and nothing happened, nothing was installed. Here's the text of the page that wanted me to install the application (or whatever it was), and keep in mind, this was a Firefox page in a foreign language that was displayed instead of my Google home page. I got the following text on the page.
"Você está navegando na web com Firefox e seu Plugin de Segurança pode estar ultrapassado"
"Por favor, atualize para a versão mais recente para um melhor desempenho."
And below was the option to download the file, which is also in Spanish. The file itself is named "Atualizacao_v7.exe".
- the site I got yesterday when starting Firefox is the following (it no longer exists as of today, but this is the link, it gives the 404 error if you try to access it): http://www.google.com/update/u... Read more

A:Firefox won't load some sites, reports DNS/Untrusted connection issue

Just to clarify -- that's not Spanish, it's Portuguese. The message you got stated your "security plugin" for Firefox was outdated and you should update it for better performance. Not sure you should have installed whatever it was you were prompted to install.
The DNS errors means there are DNS records for that website, but for some reason your browser was trying to download data that wasn't available from that site. The "This connection is untrusted" error means there's a problem with a SSL/TLS certificate(s). I'm guessing your certificate(s) may be outdated or invalid, as the sites you are trying to connect to don't seem to be having certificate issues on their side. In any event, I wouldn't recommend accepting those connections.
I'm not finding much on the Atualizacao_v7.exe file you downloaded, although it appears to be an executable file of some sort. (Atualizacao means "upgrade" in Portuguese). There is a legitimate Atualizacao DirectX executable for Portuguese-language OSes from Microsoft, but this doesn't look like it's legit.
My guess is you've downloaded a virus. You should ask the moderator to move this to the Am I infected? forum.

I have been experiencing intermittent issues with Google (I use Firefox and run Windows 7). When I try to access gmail I receive an "untrusted connection" warning. Sometimes when I click on a link I found through Google I am redirected to a completely unrelated website. Google also makes me type in one of those CAPTCHA security codes before it will allow me to use its search function. MalwareBytes has not detected anything. I am not sure how serious this is so I thought I would ask before attempting to post logs.

Thank you,

I am clueless what this issue is concerned. My Avast! always blocks every kind of download or certain programs/games like (Python IDE Canopy or Counter Strike Global Offensive).
I added such a message as a picture. Can you help me resolve that issue and maybe clean my system from Malware?

File System Shield checks any programs at the moment they are started and other files at the moment they are opened or closed. If anything suspicious is detected, the file system shield will prevent the program from being started or the file from being opened to prevent any damage being caused to your computer and data. A suspicious detection does not mean the file is actually malicious so avast allows you to add the file to the exclusion list and report it as a false positive so the detection will be removed. This detections has been reported previously (and not exclusively by avast) but may need to be reported to avast again.Steam.exe being detected as a TrojanSteam.exe was just flagged as a trojanSteam.exe False PositiveThe detection has also been reported at the Steam Community forums.avast blocking csgo.exe and steam.exe thinking its a 'dropperSteam.exe Virus?

Hey there. I started this in another topic and they said to start my own. I followed the advise of what another person got for this same problem but it didn't work. I will add the scans I got previously plus the DDS log and after I run GMER, that log as well. Thanks so much!!!!

A:Yahoo Redirecting: Avast blocks infection url:mal

Last night I did a control-alt-delete and went to the process tab. I was looking through for multiple iexplore.exe bc I read that they could be a virus. I saw an explorer.exe and thought maybe that could be something and I ended the process. It half way shut down my computer and I finished turning it off. Today when I turned on my computer the Avast said they found malacious files hiding and asked me to schedule a boot time scan. It turned up MBR Alureon-I[RTK] ans MBR:\\.\PHYSICALDRIVEO

It ran three boot scans and I am still having the avast pop up saying its blocking infection url:mal

Help!!!. I'm thinking of just doing a restore : (

I frequent a restaurant less than a mile from my house that has public wi-fi. The first time I took my Toshiba laptop there, it said it was connected, but had "No Internet access". I asked one of the waiters to reboot the router, which he did, but it made no difference. Nobody was available who knew anything about the system.

The 2nd time I tried it, the owner was there. I had the same problem, but two people at the bar had smart phones and both had Internet access. The owner told me that as soon as you connect, you're supposed to see a "Terms & Conditions" statement (a mini EULA) that you have to agree to before you can have Internet access. It did not appear on my Toshiba. I immediately concluded that something on my computer was blocking the "EULA". First thing I tried was to disable Avast's shields. The instant I did, the EULA appeared, I clicked OK and had Internet access.

Why does Avast block my computer's access to the EULA? Which shield is doing it, and how do I tell it not to block this and in fact all public wi-fi connections?

(I have also posted this on Avast's forum, but have never had much luck with responses from it)

The Internet is a dangerous place. We get it, Avast, but why do you have to block web access?

It seems that the latest Avast software update pushed on Wednesday is preventing web access for at least some devices running the latest version.

The company's support forum is also filling up with people complaining about the issue. It's unclear how widespread the problem is, but the Avast forums are full of people complaining about the issue.

Users have found away to get over the problem. According to people posting on the forums trying to help others in trouble, the only ways to go online after running the update feature is to disable the Web Shield, disable Avast completely or uninstall the software altogether. In fact, uninstalling and reinstalling a fresh copy on the device seems to be the best option at this point in time.

This issue had occurred for the past week or two. Everytime my brother starts up his custom-built gaming PC and logs in, Avast opens a notification on the taskbar stating that malware has been detected on svchost.exe.

When clicking on "More details..." on the above message, the following Avast window opens stating that the infection has been blocked.

According to the above window, the "C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe" file is infected with infection URL:Mal with the following URL attached http://alwaysisobar.com/4141/LibrarySystem_142668955912748.dll. Avast blocks this infection though, and there is really no way to remove the infection from svchost.exe.

My brother and I have tried the following anti-malware software to attempt to detect this malware: MalwareBytes AntiMalware, TDSS Killer, and ESET Smart Security. None of these programs detected the malware that Avast detects.

Is there a way to remove the malware that had been infecting svchost.exe, or is this notification bogus? If this is bogus, is there a way to stop Avast from detecting the file as infected by malware?

I downloaded a 3d game engine called fly3d and tried one of the windows demo's. My computer monitor (gateway vx900) went fuzzy and the message INVALID SYNC FREQUENCY came up on the screen. I restarted in vga enabled mode and went and reset my resolution, and monitor refresh frequency back to 70 where it had been since I bought the computer. everything is fine untill I restart the computer, or log off and log back on. Then it goes back to the INVALID SYNC FREQUENCY condition again. What can I do to not have to start in vga enabled mode every time?!?!

A:Invalid sync frequency

Get into Windows and then uninstall the game. If that fails, see if you have a System Restore point in System restore. Restore back to a point before the game. Assuming this is WinXP.

Hello all.I would like some help and/or direction if you please.I am running xp pro sp3Firefox 3.5.8IE 7 (my kids)Security softwareAvast homeZonealarm freeSpybot S&D Malwarebytes2 days ago avast triggered on a threat so I quarantined and ran avast 4.8 home edition. Then I ran malwarebytes, spybot S&D and innoculated, CCleaner and rescanned with avast. Malwarebytes identified threats and I deleted as did Spybot (these were just cookies). Avast came up clean. All programs are running the latest updates. Unfortunately I think something was missed. Here's the problem, I will google a topic and click on the link and sometimes get to the link and other times go to a random site e.g.airsplat.com. If I use the back button I am unable to unless I use the drop down next to the back button when I get randomly redirected. Additionally before I was infected I had an add-on in Firefox for WOT results on google. That is now disabled because it was blocking every link I clicked on. Sometime when i click on a result it will begin to load and Avast will interrupt as if the site is malicious e.g. I was looking for info on the guardian 2010 malware for an infected laptop. On this PC I googled the malware, tried to go to bleeping computer and was blocked as it was "malicious". I backed up tried again and was able to visit the site. When I turn my computer on "this has occurred once and is not reoccurring" I have received "Invalid Sync" message for about .5 seconds across my screen before the windows screen loads. My computer is functioning normally and this "tonight" is the first time I have seen this message. I launched The Sims 3 which crashed and I had to do a manual system shut down to get out of the frozen game, when I restarted my system that was the message I got. I do meet the system requirements and crashing of that game is rare for me. I guess my question is what does that message mean? Is there a specific definition for this term? It sounds to me like the monitor can't recognize the signal it's receiving? I am hoping this isn't the sign of an ailing video card. My card is fairly new "about 6 months old" though it's an older model. I got a great deal on it lmao. The card has really performed too. I have run some pretty graphic heavy games with little to no lag or crash even on my low-end system.
