WordPad wants to print reams of paper

Q: WordPad wants to print reams of paper

Hello:I am running Windows 2000 pro, with all service packs installed, including the final service pack that was issued in place of the service pack 5 that was canceled. The problem is fairly easy to describe:- I open WordPad, type a single space, then use the File pull-down menu to print a blank piece of paper.- The Print dialog box, pages entry has 1-65535 in it. If I go ahead and click on the Print button, I would need more than 13 cases of paper for the job to complete! This is a new phenomenon, as I have used this technique for quite some time to ensure proper connection to the printer and that other programs will be likely to print correctly and never have had the printer spit-out more than one sheet of paper.I can highlight the "1-65535" value and delete it, which will allow me to print the one blank page I want, but I shouldn't have to do that extra step (and the print dialogue box should not show anything in the "pages" box). I would like to know if perhaps something in the configuration files for WordPad causes this to happen and, if so, what it is, where it is, and how can I change it to get things back to normal.I did run Avast!, Spybot, SuperAntoSpyware, and the free Trend Micro scan to see if there might be some malware that contributes to the problem. Nothing was found.Since I run Win2K on of my other computers, I thought a simple approach would be to locate WordPad and its associated files on one of the other computers and simply copy them over the corresponding files on this one. I haven't tried it, yet, because I am curious as to what the cause and cure might be for this problem.Further information: none of my other programs, such as NotePad or EditPad Lite, or Word or WordPerfect exhibits this behavior - likewise, none of the other programs I use that print reports have this problem. Thanks for taking the time to read about the problem and, in advance, for any assistance you may offer.Raccoonnookkeeper

Preferred Solution: WordPad wants to print reams of paper

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Upon opening sealed box from SAM's club and trying to set up, I found a paper jam when i tried to set it up with perforated paper. We don't have perforated paper in our new home so this was a frustration and surprise. I hope that HP will surprise me with compensation of a new black cartridge as this was obviously used before, refurbisheshed and sold as new.Thank you,Kitty1854

I am not sure how or when, but my default paper size in both Notepad and Wordpad has changed from the standard 11X8.5 Letter to Tabloid. MS Word and other applications seem normal.

Any idea where this default setting is stored? I tried walking through the registry looking for 11X8.5 or Tabloid, but didn't see any entries that looked like it was setting the defaults for these two applications.

Make sure that the printer driver you're using is the right one for your operating system. Generally, you'll find it on the mfg site, i.e., www.epson.com, www.hp.com, etc.

I have had this problem but with a slight difference, I could print to Notepad and nothing else but this time, I can't print from any program at all, not Word, not Notepad, not to PDF and not to my paper printer. I open "See what's printing" and the print jobs are just stuck there.

The last time it printed was at 9:38 PM yesterday. I have used system restore to backdate to 4 days ago and still can't print. I have stopped and started the print spooler, no help.

I'm lost.

Hello,
I'm looking for a program that reduces how much paper is used when printing. I remember reading a thread where someone had written how many pages they had saved by using a particular program. However in my numerous searches I can't find the name of the program. I'm planning on doing alot of printing of lecture notes, however I'd love to not use lots and lots of paper. Any ideas on the programs name?
Thanks.

I'm using a Toshiba Satellite laptop running Windows Vista. I have also been successfully using an HP Photosmart B209a "all in one" printer with a wireless connection. I began getting low ink messages, so installed new HP cartridges. When I try to align the new cartridges, I get a message that says the alignment failed, but I can still use the printer. However, when I try to print any document I have generated on my computer, the printer picks up the paper and goes through the machinations of printing, but when it spits out the paper, it is blank. When I print a test page, it works. When I print a page from a website, it works. It will copy a document. It simply won't print anything I generate using my word processor or spreadsheet (I use Microsoft Works).

HP's Monitor program says that the computer is ready.

I have used HP Solutions Center, but nothing it suggests has made any difference. I have checked my wireless connection and it is working, obviously, or the printer wouldn't be getting the message to print, as it surely is, since it starts, picks up the paper and goes through the whole process of printing. However, nothing comes out except a blank piece of paper.

Hope you can help.

Every time I try to print anything, my WF-2530 feeds a sheet through and reports paper out. The unit has seen little use and has never had a paper jam. I have carefully loaded only a few sheets of regular 20 lb paper and it does it every time. I have done the same with some Kodak photo paper for inkjet and gotten the same results. It simply does not detect that there is paper loaded.

I have tried resetting the unit, powering off then on, disconnecting and reconnecting the power cord. Nothing causes it to recognize that paper is loaded after it feeds the first sheet through. Press the 'OK' button and it will feed another sheet and continue to report 'paper out'.

I don't want to replace such a lightly used printer. If I can correct whatever is wrong with the paper sensor it would be a blessing. Help!

I have a HP photo smart B110 series printer, and recently when I send a print job to it that has multiple pages and is quite detailed it always gives a paper jam error.
It occurs when printing PDF files, long word documents... basically anything that has a lot of info. As it is going slowly through once the first page is about 2/3rd printed the Jam error occurs. The next sheet has not moved at all so clearly isn't causing an issue.
If I set the quality to Fast Draft it prints with no problem, but obviously it isn't as good a copy.

Can any one shed any light on this issue please?

Thanks

I preparing a display that requires printing very light ink on black paper. I have tried white, although a lack of ink makes sense on white paper, yellow and light orange. Looking very closely at the finished sheet I do not see any evidence of any ink being deposited. However, I can see evidence of black being deposited. The printer is a HP PhotoSmart Premium C310a. Incidentally, my Hp series D2600 acts the same way. Both printers print all colors when white paper is used. Any ideas?

A:Trying to print light fonts on black paper

To get even a light gray text you would have to use black ink on white paper. The "color" white is actually the complete absence of any color at all, so most consumer printers have to turn of all the color cartridges and rely on the paper to produce the "white".

You could buy a printer that uses actual white ink, but I bet they're expensive!

http://www.thenerds.net/EPSON.Epson_...e.T596C00.html
But at $276.99 for just the cartridge you might want to consider a white crayon...:-)

SOLVEDPrinter asks for manual feed paper only when trying to print from the computer?

The computer at work copies, scans and accepts faxes just fine but when I go to print from microsoft word it asks for a manual paper feed, if manually fed it will print. What the heck? We want it to use the auto paper feed like it does every other time. I updated the drivers with no improvement.

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this problem after installing SP2 for XP Pro.
I have lost access to being able to load all my old wordpad documents in the new wordpad.

I get the error "Can not load Word for Windows 6.0 files".

All these files opened just fine with xp sp1 so I know it was the sp2 install.

You would think that Microsoft if anything would at least make their own documents
created with their own software usable after an upgrade.

At this point I don't know of a solution and can only hope that Bill and company will provide
a fix so I can access files that took me years to create.

So this post is twofold...

1. To let all of you know that this may happen to you as well.
2. Anyone know how to fix this problem ?

p.s. I can still use my other XP drive (to access these files) which I imaged just prior
to the sp2 install just in case something went wrong with the sp2 update.
Other than this issue the sp2 update went just fine. I haven't had any of the problems
I've been reading about on this board..
I think I'll try everything out so I'm not surprised again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a nice LaserJet 2500n, it has a dropdown tray labeled 1, and it has a 250 paper paper tray labeled 2. Everything is fine and dandy. I purchase an extra paper tray, unpack it, and set my 2500n on top of it. Now it keeps defaulting to the extra paper tray no matter what tray I specify in my apps, AND no matter what app I use (IE, Word, Notepad). The only way it will print to Tray2 is by pulling out Tray3! I've tried reinstalling the printer, then going into device settings and selecting 'installed' for tray3. But still nothing. I know the default is always tray 1,3,2. But I would think this gets overriden by the print job. Does this sound normal? Or should I be requesting an RMA? many thanks in advance!

A:I add xtra paper tray (tray3), now I can't print to tray2 unless I pull out tray3!

It sounds like normal hp printer operation to me. If one of the trays has a different paper size installed then it should switch automatically between the trays.

Reading up on it, I found that this printer has an auto-duplex feature, which lead me to the question:

How damp is the paper going to be after printing duplex, especially if I print with 50% - 100% coverage?

My initial conjecture is that it wouldn't be wet or curled, as it would be counterproductive to Epson's image to provide a printer with an auto-duplex feature that would drench the paper.

After doing a little bit of research, it seems that it's largely going to depend on the ink itself. According to macworld.com, "pigment inks...are made up of tiny, encapsulated particles that sit on top of the paper, instead of being absorbed into a paper’s fibers, which is what happens with dyes." The article further goes on to state that pigment inks are primarily for the purpose of longevity. Well, I'm not particularly concerned about it's longevity but I am interested in whether it's ability to dry faster than dye ink is justifiable for an investment in pigment inks?

A little more research revealed that paper quality is also a major factor (duh). Only issue is, I've already purchased a bunch of cheap 20 lb, 96 bright white paper and don't want to purchase paper separately for this additional printer (when I mean "bunch", I mean that I possess cases of paper in the double digits). Another reason I'm hesitant to make any move towards better paper is that it seems that the higher quality paper is designed to ... Read more

I have a REALLY bad paper jam... My printer is MF4350d. The paper jam troubleshooting outlined in the manual did not help. When I opened up the toner area and the back end of the printer, I can't see see the paper at all. It looks like the paper is jammed in area that I don't know how to access to (if I can, aside from taking the whole printer apart).

Does anyone know any way to fix this problem? :/ The paper that got stuck was a label paper. I know for sure it is stuck because the paper did not come out at all. The WHOLE paper got stuck. The label paper half half label peeled off. I am assuming that the reason it might have curled up in the printer is due to the disappearance of that half label? :/

The label paper is a regular size paper with 2 labels divided evenly on the paper.

Is taking the printer apart the only way? (is that even safe/good to do on my own part?)

Please help thank you very much.

Not sure which sub-forum to post this; apologies.

I want to print this image, 1:1 precisely: http://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-conten...hone-scale.pdf

In Europe we use the A4 image size; and I guess the original was formatted to US paper size (different). I am not a printing expert; do I need any sizing or adjustments?

To add insult to injury I even do not own a printer; I have to bring this thing to a print shop and possibly instruct them accordingly. By the law of large numbers, the print shop will likely use Windows; the 7th.

A:How to print image from US paper size to A4 size 1:1, precisely?

The print shop should have no problem adjusting the print size on there equipment.
The adjustment are not made with Windows 7 they are made with the printer program that came with the printers they use.

Hello again

We recently noticed that when we paste into wordpad, the font now automatically changes to New Times Roman. Example: We are pasting from "file A" into Wordpad; file A is written in comic sans, bold, blue. When it's pasted into Wordpad, it changes to New Times Roman bold.

It wasn't like this until early March 2007.

We tried the Edit>> Paste Special>>RTF and it's the same result as above. If we choose the Unformatted Text, it pastes as font Arial.

Also, our system restore doesn't work, unless we do a restore in Safe Mode (then it works). We tried to restore the pc back to March, but that didn't fix the Wordpad issue.

Can anyone please help us to get wordpad working back the way it used to? (being able to copy/paste fonts correctly from the original source).

Thank you!

Reinstalled wordpad and cetus and clipboard
Also reinstalled critical files
Nothing helps
Must have deleted or corrupted some file
Help--very descriptive--would be appreciated

Unfortunately Wordpad has nothing to do with MS Office and isn't really considered a business application. It's really just a small program that comes with Windows. I'm going to move your question into the "Other software" forum where I hope it will get more attention.

I've also renamed your post to be more descriptive.

When is the last time you cleaned up your hard drive? If you want instructions, just send a blank email to [email protected] This alone can help with a lot of problems.

Whenever I print to the shared printer on my Windows 7 desktop, the print job will just sit in the print queue. If I stop and then start the print spooler, the job will print. It happens from an XP laptop. Print jobs sent from the local Windows 7 computer print just fine.
How can i solve this one ? :(

This issue with some particular laptop running windows Xp and windows 7 Home

A:Whenever I print to the shared printer he print job will just sit in the print queue

So, the Windows 7 Desktop has the printer physically attached to it and it's shared?
And the XP laptop is sharing the printer through the network? If I understand you correctly?
If so, on the XP Laptop, go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. Are there any devices with yellow flags? Or Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers is there an Unknown Device? Or any listings for the printer? If so, right click it and Uninstall it. Now go to Start/Run and type appwiz.cpl and press enter. In the Add Remove Programs uninstall any drivers or software for the printer. Now,go to Printers and Faxes, and if the printer icons is there, Right click the shared printer icon and Delete it. And Restart the computer. Now when the computer comes back up, go to the printer manufacturers support/download drivers site and type in the model# for the printer and download the driver for the printer for XP and install it. Now, go to Start/Run and type the computer name of the Windows 7 machine (ex) \\ComputerName and press enter. A window should open up with the shared drives on the 7 computer, with the shared printer. Right click the shared printer and choose Connect. This will add the printer to Printers and Faxes again. Right click this printer/Properties and print a Test Page.

Hello to all!

It has been a while since this problem first occurred. Now it has become unbearable. When I try to print, use print preview or enter page setup, Microsoft Word 2003 freezes. The same thing also happens with other Office 2003 programs like Microsoft Excel 2003.

I am not sure if there is a problem with my printer driver (the printer is an HP L2600n by the way) as I have reinstalled it many times AND I have no problem using it as a network printer and can print the same word documents FINE from laptops or other desktop computers in the house. Thus I know that the documents aren't corrupted. I can also print .pdf documents fine from this computer. I think this problem started when my laser printer driver 'disappeared' and when I tried to reinstall it I got a spool-related error. I reinstalled the spool driver and then when I tried to print a .doc file I was unable to do so. The problem may most likely be linked to Office 2003 itself but I have tried options like deleting the data key and renaming the normal.dot template, all which have failed to alleviate the problem.

I think that is all the information I can offer to assist anyone trying to help me with this matter, and I hope that the problem can be fixed without me having to reformat or something like that.

Thank you in advance.

P.S Not sure if this will also come in handy but my OS is Windows XP Professional SP2.

In Office, On the Help menu there is a 'detect and repair' option. It wouldn't hurt to run that. This could also be a sign that the hard drive is going bad (loosing stuff here and there)...

Hi, I just purchased an used computer with Windows 7Home Premium x64, this is an HP Slimline s5610f. The problem that I have is with a Brother HL 2040 series printer. It gave me a really hard time to install the drivers that I downloaded from the Brother website I kept getting a "0x00000057" error and "could not find suitable driver for this printer" error. Finally I decided to take the driver folders for this printer from my wife's computer and copied them to my computer and put them in the drivers repository under System32 and was able to install the printer after that with no problems.

The problem that I have right now is that the printer won't print, even though it told me that the driver installation was successful.

1-the print button is grayed out
2-If I click "printer properties" it tells me that the drivers have not been installed and asks if I want to install them.
3-If I install the drivers at this prompt it tells me that the drivers have been successfully installed.
4-Now it lets me access the printer properties but when I click "print test page" either nothing happens or it tells me that it failed to print and access is denied
5-If i close printer properties and try to access it again it tells me that the printer drivers have not been installed.

I get the same results with the printer connected locally trough USB or on another computer through the network.
All the other computers in the house print to this printer witho... Read more

Just migrated our office to a new Server 2012R2 Print server. about a dozen printers installed via GPO to Windows 7/64 workstations. Mostly HP's running Universal PS driver (6.1), plus the odd Kip plotter and Xerox Copier.   For maybe 4 users
out of 30 some, there is a printing problem. When a print job is sent, it appears in the queue and then is immediately deleted.   No other indication that anything is amiss. No events fire, no dimming of the icons or exclamation points,
 no error messages.
That's the consistent part. There is also some inconsistent (but still bad) behavior I'm finding on the different PCs. For some, deleting and re-running gpupdate will  bring the printers back and printing properly, but only for a short time. Sometimes
only one or two printers will print, sometimes not. Sometimes logging in as a different user will install the printers, sometimes no.
I've been fiddling with this over the past few days and gotten absolutely no where.  Now I don't know what to look at next. Any idea would be appreciated!
