Y580 - Disable Touchpad Buttons Only?

Q: Y580 - Disable Touchpad Buttons Only?

This may sound like an odd request, but is there a way to disable the touchpad buttons from moving the mouse, but still have them work when they're pressed? Here's what happens...I'm using the touchpad and I hit the left button and it moves my mouse pointer a little. But I don't want it to move. I just want to press the button without my touching it causing the pointer to move a little. It really screws with some things I do.

Is there any solution to this? If not, can I buy a completely different touchpad?

Thanks

- Brian

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

ideally, i would like for any mouseclicks and menu opening commands made within X microseconds of a keystroke to be discarded, with the user setting the value of X.

for the record, i'm working on a laptop (2730p) which has mousebuttons and menu buttons quite close to the typing keys, and i have on occassion overwritten entire paragraphs and somehow even issued a close program command while furiously typing. needless to say, i would like a fix for this.

If anyone has acces to the connections/schematics for the M4600 touchpad/button assembly, I'd love to see them! For some reason both the right buttons have stopped working. Tried to disconnect/reconnect  the 14 pin "touchpad cable from the mainboard, but unfortunately this did not do the trick. Need to look a bit deeper - so would love to see the schematics or at least the pinout of the connector(s)... (It's a button - how hard can it be to fix... ;-)
Thanks and best regards,

I'm 11 and using Ubuntu 17.04 Linux on my Lenovo Y580. The problem I'm having seems to effect every operating system I've used on it. The touchpad flips out randomly and sometimes stops working at all. Sometimes it will start to work but only for so long. It's will massively teleport up and down until I start hitting it a little bit, but this is bothering me and hitting it probably makes it worse. Any help would be appreciated. feel free to ask more advanced questions just because I'm 11. I will understand for sure.

Hey all, I recently installed an SSD in my old y580 laptop and reinstalled windows 10 but windows is registering the touchpad as a mouse plugged into the PS/2 port. As such, the touchpad inputs are far from optimized and no multi-finger gestures are being recognized (including scrolling  ). The previous HDD recently died but definitely used elan/synaptics drivers. I've had this problem occur on other Lenovo laptops and I've seen others posting about it on here, but never for the y580 and I've never been able to solve it. I've downloaded all of the touchpad drivers on the support page for my serial number but none of them go up to windows 10 and all of them result in an error message that reads that the Realtek Bluetooth Suite isn't compatible with this version of windows. I've also downloaded 15-20 different drivers for windows 10 elan/synaptics touchpads from varying newer lenovo laptops but none of them recognize my touchpad either. Any help would be super appreciated.

The leftmost touchpad button (not the ones in between the keyboards and touchpad, the buttons below the touchpad), is sticking. The other two bounce right up like the keyboard keys, but the left one has worn down it's spring after heavy use. Is there a replacement option for this other than replacing the entire upper casing (595775-001)?

I switched the buttons on a Kensington Ball mouse.  Switched them back.  Shortly afterward, the buttons on my P50 touchpad work in a reversed manner (left button brings up a menu, right button provides a click).  The Click Point buttons work properly. I installed the latest lenovo update and the latest Windows 10 update (1703?), which took 4 hours. Machine is still under warranty, but what a pain!

A:RE: touchpad buttons not working.

Hi MRIGANKPAWAGI,
What is the exact system model? Are both the left and right buttons not functional? Are these buttons mechanically functional or are they stuck? What is the current OS installed on the system? Does the touchpad register a click?
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
If there is no warranty, then you could contact our team to get a quote for a paid service call - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.

I have a Inspiron 1500, model 3558, with a touchpad oddity. Only about the leftmost ½" of the mouse button acts as a left mouse click. The rest of the button acts as a right click. Since I left-click probably 100 times as often as I right-click, this is very inconvenient. Dell Tech Support was completely useless when I called in. Does anyone know how to adjust this setting, if it is adjustable?

A:Touchpad mouse buttons

You could try reloading the driver for the 3558 touchpad here and then try checking the settings using touchpad properties, but I am not aware of any settings that could change this.On your system do you currently have warranty? It might be that the palmrest needs to be replaced.Best regards,Brad

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200-27Z. It is a fairly old laptop running Vista but there are no plans to get rid of it yet!

A couple of weeks ago the touchpad and mouse buttons stopped working. There was no lead up to this, just suddenly stopped. This lead to a second issue with my wireless connection which I eventually had to solve by re-installing Windows (I sought help in this thread http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/1125652-wireless-password-not-accepted.html#post8906770).

The fresh install of Windows fixed my wireless issues but strangely the touch pad and buttons still don't work at all. Given that I just installed Windows with all the drivers does that mean this is a hardware fault? And is there a way to fix it or do I now have to rely on the USB mouse?

Thank you in advance for any help,

John

A:Touchpad and buttons not working

Since you re-installed Windows with fresh install of drivers for the touchpad, chances are good that it is a hardware failure.

Dell 2-in-1 3147:
The "DELL Pointing Devices" dialog shows a "Disable Touchpad when USB Mouse Present" checkbox. If this checkbox is clear, the touchpad works properly. When this checkbox is marked, the touchpad does not work at all.
I have tried both USB and Bluetooth mice, and neither one allows the proper action: the touchpad should be enabled without a mouse, and the touchpad should be disabled with a mouse.  That's how it works on other systems.  It just doesn't work at all on this system.
I suspect there is some interaction between the touchpad and the touchscreen that is interfering with this setting.  But I have another laptop with a touchpad and a touchscreen, and the mouse detection works there (it's not a DELL).
Yes, I have toyed with the idea of deleting the DELL touchpad control application and installing a "stock" Synaptics touchpad driver.  But I don't want the DELL  "update" app to overwrite it with the DELL touchpad control app every time it sees "the wrong driver" loaded.  And I don't want to take the chance that the touchpad driver and the touchscreen driver are somehow linked together, thus disabling one when I disable the other.
Any ideas on how to get the "Disable Touchpad when USB Mouse Present" action working would be welcome.

I phoned up the support people, they said that they want me to do a full system recovery, (i can not do this...)

My problem is, I use the touchpad/USB mouse on and off, depending where i am.

Last night i was at my desk, and I plugged in my mouse, When i moved to somewhere comfortable, I unplugged my mouse, and now my touchpad's buttons (left and right) dont work, well they do, but they work as the scroll button (open things in tabs ect)

What can i do to fix this problem? I was told that i need to do a full system recovery to see if its a hardware problem. This has never happened before.

The laptop is a Compaq Presario C700 and I have had it since december.

I can backup by documents, but I need my software... (in total, easily ?5000, but no serials(got serials over phone), so i cant get new ones...)

> No mouse or touch pad are showing in Device Manager. Perhaps I use the wrong set of drivers?

The touchpad device should be visible in device manager; either as unknown device or device marked with an yellow exclamation mark?.this should be visible even if the driver would not be installed.

But if the device (touchpad ) is recognized by system, then either is disabled (in BIOS) or it malfunctions.
Check the BIOS settings.
There you could enable / disable touchpad (pointing device)

Hi all Can anyone help me diagnose a problem I'm having with a friends T410. The trackpoint and touchpad buttons have stopped working (both left and right click). Hi whitehouse87,
Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you again.

As I understand that you are facing issue with Touchpad & Trackpoint buttons are not working in T410.
You have tried almost everything & I don't think so its related to software or drivers. You can check without drivers once whether clicks are working or not. Else its a hardware issue for sure

I hope the above information helped you.

After having to re-install Windows 7 on my laptop I've found that the trackpad and associated mouse buttons are no longer working. The keyboard works fine. The touch screen works fine. When I inserted an external mouse, it automatically installed the driver and worked without issue.I installed the Synaptics TouchPad Driverbut that didn't make any difference. I also tried removing the battery, holding the power button for 30 seconds, re-instering the power cable (but not the battery) and booting up the latop.  It was working fine before the re-install so I can ssume i's not a hardware fault and if the keyboard works the interface cable is also working... Just wondering if anyone has had the same issue and can suggest anything?

Hi, My TouchPad buttons are not working anymore. I don't know if the problem is a hardware failure or that the buttons maybe have been disabled by mistake.I have checked the UltraNav settings in the control panel as reset the values to default without any luck.Furthermore I have checked the bios settings which were set to the default values. I'm not using a mouse or any other pointers. Does any one have any suggestion before I return the T410 to the dealer for repair. Yesterday the left and right buttons on my touchpad started to mess up. Clicking the left button sometimes wouldn't do anything and sometimes it would bring up the right-click menu. I would have to right-click something first before I could do anything to it with the left click nearly all the time. The right button sometimes won't bring up the menu and sometimes it will but only for a second. There are also random times where the menu will pop up when I just barely touch the right button.

I've already checked the mouse options and they're all set correctly and also reinstalled the correct driver from Vaio's website and nothing works.

The only thing that's happened when the buttons started messing up was that my computer was badgering me about restarting to complete a few updates. I also watched a movie too though that was about a day or two before, so it might either be something from the update that my computer can't handle anymore or a virus, least that's what I think but I don't know anything so I'm asking you guys.

Hi Matt0000, What generation is your Zbook 17? In regards to the touchpad issue, please check your touchpad to see if there is any amber light on the top left/right corner. If there is, double tap it. When the amber light is there, it means the touchpad is disabled. If that doesn't fix the issue, please go to our HP drivers page (http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers) and install the Synaptics Mouse driver. Once you have installed the driver, restart the notebook and open Synaptics software. Most likely it will be located on the task bar. You should be able to control your touchpad feature there.  Thank you, -Tenzin

Hello, I am coming from a Lenovo T61, and I LOVED the touchpad and buttons on that laptop.I do not like not having physical left and right click buttons, I do know you can click on the bottom left and right of the trackpad to achieve this but it sucks because I like to leave my thumb on the left click button while I use the track pad with my pointer, but the left click button area will also move the mouse cursor so my thumb moves it when I try to click and half the time the pointer moves before the button is pressed all the way. Can you disable the trackpad where the left and right click buttons are? If that is not doable, I guess I am going to have to cave in on tapping I've always had issues with that on laptops, tapping things while I am moving around.I was thinking, maybe I can set 2 finger tap for left click and 3 finger tap for right click? I recently got this new Thinkpad T460p and installed Windows and Ubuntu in dual boot. Even after 3 Days there was no error. But today I noticed a quite annoying behaviour. When I boot into Windows (Start up --> Grub, select Windows Loader --> Windows 10 starts) there appears the loading cycle (those white points) and for a short moment, even before the locked Windows screen appears, I can see the cursor. But immediately after that (when the locked home screen appears) the laptop won't recognize any input via touchpad, buttons or trackpad andthere won't appear a cursor at all. I need to login and wait for about a minute (Whatever I do, the laptop won't recognize anything but the normal keyboard), thats the moment in which my Laptop realizes that there are more possibilities to input data then just the keyboard and recognizes everything (touchpad, buttons and trackpad).I already deinstalled the synaptic driver and reinstalled the latest update and even tried the one before that one just to be sure. Nothing fixed my problem yet.PS.: When I start into Ubuntu there is no Problem at all.PPS.: When I started into Windows a day ago It worked fine as well.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A105 running XP with a few problems. Sometimes there is no display when Windows loads. It is just a blank screen. The same problem occurs booting into safe mode. Sometimes there is a display and sometimes not. It is the same using an external monitor. I can go into setup without any problems so the problem is when Windows loads.

Another problem - the mouse buttons do not work when I am able to see the display. I can move the cursor but I cannot click on anything. I also cannot use Ctrl Esc to access the Start menu. I cannot open any icons or right click to get the properties box. It is the same with an external mouse.

This computer has a virus, Spyware Guard 2008. When I was first given the computer to clean I was able to use the mouse buttons and could see the display. I was not able to run any executables when I tried to install some spyware and antivirus programs. I don't know if the virus was able to prevent loading those programs.

Someone else closed some processes in Task Manager. The problems with the display and mouse buttons may have started after that. Could there be something that I need to enable?

I currently have the laptop booted into safe mode and can see the display (intermittent problem). The mouse buttons do not work. I can move the cursor but cannot click. When I hover over the Start button I get an hourglass. I cannot open Task Manager.

I don't think this is a hardware problem.

Are there any suggestions? Thanks ... Read more

Hi, whilst on my laptop today for no apparent reason my touchpad decided to stop working properly, it will still move the mouse around the screen, however does nothing when I double tap anything. The left click button has also ceased to work at all, click and nothing the right hand button is working fine.

I have reinstalled the drivers and I am currently using a mouse via the USB port which is working fine. I have also checked the options to make sure that the left click hasn't been assigned to another button or something odd like that. I'm afraid I really am at a bit of a loss as to what could be wrong.

If anyone could please point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it!! Thanks guys

We have recently performed a fresh install of Windows 7 x64 on a Toshiba Tecra A10.
The OS has picked up most drivers, we had to install drivers for the card reader ourselves.

Our problem is that the touchpad and buttons do not work at all.
The driver shows in Device Manager as being properly installed, but that's all. I have even installed the Alps Control Panel (Vista x64) which runs okay.
Have tried the "Touch pad and stick are automatically invalidated" settings when using an external USB mouse, all to no avail.

The hardware was working perfectly okay with Windows 7 32 Bit installed.

Is there a fix here?

A:Tecra A10 - Touchpad and buttons do not work on Windows 7 x64

Hello

Maybe it?s just a driver issue? I have checked the available downloads for Tecra A10 on Toshiba page and for Windows 7 32bit there is a newer driver available, for Windows 7 64bit not (no driver). So you must use the Vista 64bit driver?

What you can do is testing the touchpad driver for Tecra A11. There is a newer version for Windows 7 64bit from Alps Electric so the correct one. Touchpad driver is not system related so I?m pretty sure it also works on your model.

Have a look on Toshiba website for Tecra A11 driver:
