P51 - bios setting for auto wifi disconnection is broken

Q: P51 - bios setting for auto wifi disconnection is broken

There is in the P51 bios an option to auto disable the wifi connection when there is no LAN connection. However, this seems to work backwards... The wifi is only enabled when the LAN is connected and there is no way to enable wifi without a LAN cable. This is with all the most recent updates (including bios).

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have this setup to auto connect to the 3G sim, but even though I have the tick box enabled to say only connect when no other internet connections are available, it still connects.
I want this to connect when wireless isn't connected and disconnect when it is available.

Is anyone else using the new T470S BIOS feature, auto wireless disconnection? It works great most of the time but periodically when you undock it will not re-enable the wireless. We have to re-dock or restart to fix. I have sent an e-mail to our TAM but wanted to reach out to the community as well.

I have a al440lx board that I have been using on and off for a couple of years. Recently, I decided I would do some upgrading on the computer and use it. I had taken out the hard drive because I thought I might use it on my main system but changed my mind and am looking to put it back in and get the system up and running.

The problem is that I get a "cant find operating system" error. That's no suprise because when you go into setup the primary master, primary slave, secondary master and secondary slave, are all set to "none." Here's the problem, when I change the setting to "auto" it wont save it. In fact, I can change it to any of the other choices and it wont save it. I have tried scrolling to auto and use the esc key and the change isn't there. I tried doing the same but hitting F10 to save and exit and that doesnt work either. I even tried to restore system defaults but I still get "none."

Any ideas on how I can get the "auto" setting to stick?

This makes me believe an issue related to power saving options. Can anyone offer any assistance please?

Hey Everyone!

Hi all. This is my first post, tried many things, but this issue keeps happening and I am out of options.I turn my machine on, connects to Wifi just to lose it after a few minutes. Running the windows (10) troubleshoot will take a few minutes and come back with Gateway not available. I tried all the options in this post:https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht502846and also tried fresh start with saving the files and by formatting the hard drive but had no luck.Disabling the Bluetooth doesn't help either. The fastest way to get the wifi back is to go to switch airplane mode on and then off.Every single other device in the house has no problem with wifi, but I still tried to restart the router multiple times with no luck.I am now thinking that this might be an hardware issue, before ripping this thing apart I figured I would ask as a last resort to check if there is anything that I didn't try, OS is Win 10 - everything up to date (had to run the last few updates manually due to spotty wifi) Not sure what other info is required.

Hi All,
I received my brand new Kaby Lake powered Dell XPS 13 9360 a couple of weeks back and I have been suffering from wifi disconnect issues since then. The USB LAN connection works perfectly using the Dell USB C adapter.
I have tried all the standard troubleshooting steps:
1. BIOS and Killer 1535 Wireless Adapter Driver updated to latest version  (including uninstalling and reinstalling the wireless drivers)
2. Updated Windows 10 to the latest anniversary edition
3. Changed Power Saving settings on the Wireless Adapter using Powershell commands as there are no Power management options for the Killer Wireless adapter in Device Manager
(Disable-NetAdapterPowerManagement -Name "Wi-Fi" -NoRestart)
After running the above command I get the status of the relevant power mgmt parameters as below (though not sure if its really effective)
DeviceSleepOnDisconnect : InactiveWakeOnMagicPacket : Disabled
 4. Installed the latest Intel PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Windows 10
Even after running step 1 and then later step,2 the wifi connection used to disconnect after some time (especially when a large file was being downloaded or any high network usage activity). Running a speed test of my broadband connection is a sure way to disconnect from wifi. More importantly this disconnection used to crash the Access Point on my TP-Link WR841N router which caused all my other devices to lose network connection as well and required a Router restart.

I have a win10 machine here that is getting worse and worse. Now it is off the web permanently, I can't connect at all.

It was intermittent and then progressively worse and now totally off.

It is supposed to be connecting via wifi3 whatever that means. The third wifi dongle I've put in since I've been hassling with it?

It claims it cannot see any available networks. A machine one metre away also running win10 sees four or five.

The machine is on an Asus H170 pro gamer board with an i3 cpu.

Here are some of the rough notes I eventually started jotting down as the thing went on, in no particular order but just as they came to me. You can see I finally got exasperated enough to start doing it when the machine started not even waking up:

. Machine doesn't wake up after it has gone to sleep from inactivity - or machine starts the onboard fan but there's no video signal. Plug a different monitor in and it, too, reports no signal. So it is the board.

. How to shut down the board in such a case with a keypress or two? I have to hold the start button down for a long time.

. When it reports it cannot see any networks I can find no way to compell it to search for networks.

. Reported 'wifi2 not a valid IP configuraton' - what on earth does that signify?

. Reported possible problem with windows adapter or access point or network cable. There is no cable, it's wifi, the 'adapters' - wifi dongles - have been changed and proven to work in other machines.

Hi All,

Win8:
I have two wifi APs in the home and I have it all set up so that one is the Internet by cell phone tether and the other is the cabled network via the router wifi.

Works just fine - except.

On wifi 1, Internet I have it set for "Connect automatically" which at boot up it does.

On wifi 2, Network I also have it set for "Connect automatically" which at boot up it does NOT do. I have to go in and connect manually even though the "Connect automatically" is checked.

It seems win8 sees "Connect automatically"and does it but then stops checking other connections. Probably a "feature."

Is there some way to force both "Connect automatically" to happen?

Thanks

There is a group policy setting for this, but even if both are connected you will only be using one of those connections at a time.

So I just acquired a new HDTV that runs in 1920x1080 resolution and I proceeded to set it up as a monitor. I adjusted the resolution settings and everything was going smoothly until I tried to alter the full screen resolution in psxfin.

At one point while adjusting the resolution I exited fullscreen mode and the resolution suddenly changed? My TV now says that the resolution when the PC is set to 1920x1080 is now 1536x1080 making everything way too wide to fit on the screen. The next setting down is still fine, but I tried restarting, restoring, auto-adjusting, and I still can't seem to fix the resolution setting.

Any ideas?

the intelligent auto setting on my Panasonic DMC-TZ4 camera doesn't work. I get a message to turn off and on the camera but that doesn't help. All the other settings to take photos or video work. I tried the intelligent auto setting many times over a several week period without success and then it worked briefly again yesterday, then I heard a big pop sound and it stopped working again. All other settings are fine. I was thinking of taking the camera to a local repair person, but wanted some sense first of what the problem might be and whether it was repairable.

A:Panasonic DMC-TZ4 intelligent auto broken

Anytime a camera snaps, crackles, or "pops!" it sounds likes it needs repair.
Can it be repaired? I'd say yes, as almost anything can be repaired. But is it worth the expense?
To get something as intricate as an electronic camera repaired I'll bet it is going to cost at least $100, and you can get better cameras than this 8M pixel for not much more than this already. Even some cell phones get that range of resolution. Wait another couple months and 13 to 41M pixel camera phones will be common.

Get rid of this paperweight.

Like most of you, I have several apps (seven, currently) that run automatically at startup and place icons in the system tray: An antivirus program, volume control, temperature monitor, etc.

Somehow, my firewall has become the last of these to load---which means it doesn't take effect till everything else has initialized.

Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I keep reading about hackers who scan thousands of systems per second, looking for open ponts. Is there a way in Win XP to set the auto-run order, so I can have my firewall run first and protect the system right away?

I realize that auto-run entries are set in various places, and that it may be complicated. (For what it's worth, I believe that Linux does this from a single configuration file.)

Thanks, Ander

A:Setting auto-run order?

Hi ander the only thing as far as i know regarding the boot sequence would be to use bootvis . this is a tool that microsoft issued for xp and if you do a search you will certainly find it. It when optimized will load several drivers at the same time. As wel i believe the networking takes place at the end of the boot sequence as well so the time would be extremly minimal.

as for the hacker theory...well you would probably have a better chance of getting a beachball caught in your eye..

Would IE's (up to date) Auto detect settings cater for this?

We use 2000/XP for out laptops and when at home login using work logins (working offline) so everything is all in one user. (Have to make it easy for them)

I can write doco's on it and most likely it won't be used and because working with different schools and having no direct way of minitoring each school each day 24/7 I would like to provide a solution for my ICT's with your help?

*It has to be all in one username (Work Domain)
*No changes by user to me made/ plugNplay
*2000 Server mainly in schools ATM but later on moving to 2003

Can anyone suggest any webpage to read up on or is it at simple as yes it will work? I ask because I just got back to work and someone else was researching it and said it involved registry settings etc. Just would like to clarify this as well.

Thankyou for your time.

The Lenovo website confirms no errors on a hardware test. I do have a Rotation Lock icon in the system tray area. But it no longer changes orientation automatically depending on howI hold the tablet in PC or Tablet mode.

I have an icon on my desktop that runs the mybackup.bat.

The only issue is you have to use the short dos directory/file names

The bat file equates to your 'remembered key strokes'.
Get up a Command Prompt window and type 'help xcopy' without the 's.
Read and digest.
then type 'edit mybackup', again without the 's and substitute your own name for mybackup.
enter the xcopy command with parameters appropriate.

I've not got my version with me, if you want I caould post you a suitable xcopy.

I had set time in my AU for downloading the updates from Microsoft.com at 2000 hrs. But I find that the time automatically reverts to 0300 hrs. I couldn't customize it as per my own suitability. How can it be resolved, please suggest.

A:Setting time for dldg. Auto-Updates

Right Click your "My Computer" Icon then select "Properties" and left click to open System Properties window.

Left Click on the Automatic Updates Tab:

Select a setting.

You can set the automatic download time for any time, day or night. Just be sure your computer is on at that time. (To avoid slow-downs, I recommend a time when you will not be using the computer yourself. The computer will need to be turned on, however.)

If you set up Automatic Updates to notify you, or if you forget to leave your computer on, you will see a notification balloon:

Once you have set a time, press OK:

Don't forget to press Apply

Hope this helps
