Second screen on Ideapad 100

Q: Second screen on Ideapad 100

I have a Philips 21" screen that uses a VGA connection. When I connected it to my Ideapad with a VGA to HDMI converter it worked for about 2 seconds and then showed a message that no signal was available and went into sleep mode. My main reason for buying the Ideapad was to use the larger additional screen. I have downloaded the latest Intel HD graphics driver but it only recognises the laptop screen. I am on Windows 10 Home and right now I have no idea what to do next. HELP!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I just bought this laptop for about 1 month, the laptop work fine before. But after...I don't know maybe after the windows update, the driver make the screen flickering and some dots appear on the screen, sometimes the screen lagging and went black. I'm pretty sure it's because of the driver because if I disable it, everything is fine, but that is just a temporary fix, every games is unplayable when I disable the driver. I tried to reinstall it using driver from Intel, Windows, Lenovo but none of them work(newest)

IdeaPad 320 screen went black.  Perhaps a backlight issue.  Sent device in to have it serviced.  After a month of no email communication from Lenovo Support Depot (only from my continual attempts to contact Lenovo) I am told that perhaps the damage occured during shipment.  Lenovo is unwilling to provide picture proof of the water damage.  Instead, they asked me for a picture of the device before I sent it in!  This is beyond ridiculous!  Who else is having issues with lack of communication from Lenovo's repair depot?  Who else is being told that their warranty is void due to liquid spill corrosion?  Is it just me?

Hello, my Ideapad 710S Plus-13IKB does not power on anymore. There is no noise and just a black screen. The keyboard also does not light up.Yesterday evening I have just shut down my laptop regularly. Today it is not working anymore. Since my laptop model does not allow to remove the battery, this is not an option for me as several support articles say. When plugging in the power supply, the small LED light at the side of the laptop lights up. But besides of that, nothing happens. The Novo button also does not work. Model Name: 80W3CPU: Intel i7-7500U 2.7GRAM: 8 GBSSD: 256 GBDisplay 13.3" FHDBattery: 4 cellOS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit Thanks for your help.

My kid has been using this laptop and loved it, but mentioned a while ago it was difficult to power it back on after turnned it off. However she managed to work around by putting it in hibernate/sleeping mode only, or recycling the system many times (by holding on power button to force it off). The issue was black screen (no Lenovo logo) but computer was on. I didn't pay much attention because she can still make it work, and I was too busy. Last week, there was a windows update (again) and the computer was forced recycle. It never comes back alive again. The same, computer is humming, but no any visual output on screen, just black. Tried novo button, bootable USB, external monitor, all no use. Check the warranty, just over by 2 months! Asked the service store, to fix will cost at least $200-$300 to replace the motherboard! It does not make sense when spent a bit more could buy a new notebook. But my kid liked it and it does not make sense to throw it away either, when it still looks pretty new and only being used very lightly (schoolwork only). It is sad, especially the brand has been gainning my trust. I probably don't expect a "good" solution either from Lenovo or community, but just throw my frustration here (only because have just registered the account and there is no support email or web form). If Lenovo want to make customer happy, the part shouldn't be so expensive for a short-lived laptop! Just by the way, there are many posts about Ideapad's black screen i... Read more

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of all the problems.  Here are a couple of things to try........

First, try a reset of the BIOS.  The procedure can be useful in resolving some hardware conflicts which your computer may have.  Just do this......

1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 3. Plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If you are comfortable working inside your laptop. try this........

Try the reset again with the battery removed.

If the reset didn't resolve the problem then you may have a failed piece of hardware preventing the bootup. Remove the battery, hard drive, optical drive, memory, wireless card and bluetooth if it is installed. Now try to power up the stripped laptop. With all the hardware removed you should have lights come on and it may possibly beep since there is no memory installed. If the laptop is showing signs of life start adding hardware one piece at a time starting with a memory module and boot up the laptop. If it doesn't power up try the memory in the other slot. Also try the other memory module separately in both slots if two are available. If it is still showing signs of life add another piece and boot. Do this for each item until it doesn't power up again. The last piece of hardware installed is your problem part.

I have bought my ideapad just few months ago and it already started driving me nuts. Initially ten days back I noticed that when I used mousepad to pause something on Youtube or any video channel it flickered for like a second and I ignored thinking may be mouse pad is loose or something like that. But now it starts flickering suddenly and does a lot so that you have no option other than restart. It feels like may be some update was pending but then again after an hour or so it is doing the same. I installed lenovo system update app and tried to install drivers or update them. There are some optional installs which I am not sure if I must do. I found one answer for Yoga flicker and that had to do with the installs but I am not sure which ones I need to update for ideapad 520. If someone has solved this please let me know. It is very frustrating. Thanks a lot!

Hello everyone New Ideapad arrived Friday ready for work-from-home session on Monday...or so I thought. Screen completely dead from first power-up. Not a flicker of life. I tried all the usual suggestions for resurrecting it but to no avail. I currently have it attached to my TV via HDMI and it is fine in all other respects. All diagnostics return no issues. Windows doesn't recognise the laptop's screen. Ive checked the Radeon graphics card setup, bios setup, etc. Do any of you tech experts out there have anything else I can try? I find it hard to believe the screen is broken. I'd love to take the back off and re-seat the connectors but this will void my warranty I assume. Disappointing first experience with a Lenovo product but here's hoping for a speedy resolution. Cheers Chris

Hi Chr15 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

The stock display would be the default as this would also be the ones for the BIOS .
So like what you have in mind , LCD and LCD cable would be the most probable point of failure.
Transport vibrational frequency thou low may affect connection that can affect the cables among electronic devices.

Opening the cover should not void the warranty for as long as none would be damage on the process as being done on upgrade but conditions for returns may be different from th repair department .

As such is the situation best to call in the reseller or lenovo sales for recommendation and if needed to inform if possible reseating would be allowed as it is not required being performed by the users.

Your description would be sufficient as display ok on external monitor on both BIOS and Windows.

I have had this Ideapad laptop for only a year and the right hinge of the screen just seemed to crack when I tried to close it after normal use.  It was never dropped or kicked or stepped on - I just heard a cracking noise and the screen would not close.  When you look at it from the side (pic) while pushing the screen down to close that you can see the hinge actually pushing up the laptop enclosure sheet and almost coming off! it looks ok at 90 degree angle but I cannot push the screen backwards or forwards or else I'm afraid it will come apart.  Apparently everything else works ok though.  Any ideas on how I can fix it or if it's something that happens a lot? is there a general problem with the hinges?

I've searched around these forums and not been able to find a solution for my problem.  Here's the whole story. I've had my IdeaPad Notebook P500 for over a year, and rarely had an issue with it.  Today, I accidently touched the F11 key, which happens to be the "Brightness minus" key.  Immediately, the screen went very dim, to the point where it actually hurts my eyes to be typing this.  I can adjust the brightness sliders up and down on the screen, using both the F11/F12 keys and the slider box available from the "Brightness" selection under "Settings".  Even though the sliders go up and down, the screen stays the same very dark level. Windows 8 64-bit is my OS. I have uninstalled and re-installed the Intel HD driver. I have shut down the laptop and turned it back on while holding the F12 (Brightness plus) button.  Yes, it sounds crazy but someone mentioned it on another thread so I figured what the hell.  It was useless, though. I have rebooted several times. Anyone have a clue as to why one simple mistype has apparently hosed my computer, and better yet, anyone know what I can do about it? Thank you.

A:Ideapad 310 - Black Screen

Hi Raj11negoy, This is a unique issue, I don't really know were to start so we can isolate the issue. It may be a hardware in which the left click button triggers a short. Lets start with the basic, does it happen even outside of windows like inside BIOS? You can get into the BIOS by pressing the Novo Button when the system is off, then selecting BIOS Setup. If its happening inside BIOS then you should call Lenovo Warranty Support to get the unit serviced. Now if the issue does not happen in BIOS, try loading the Onekey Environment, you can get into the Onekey Environment by pressing the Novo Button when the system is off, then selecting System Recovery. If the issue happens here call Lenovo. If the issue does not happen in the Onekey Environment just shut off the laptop and do the next step. OK now its time to check if this is a Software issue. If the issue is only happening after you log into windows then you have a software causing this problem, I would recommend doing a clean boot or loading windows in safe mode. Then try to isolate the software causing the issue. If the issue happens even on the log in screen and not inside the Onekey Environment then its a windows issue so you can try to refresh Windows. If refreshing windows does not resolve the issue then I would recommend backing up your files and doing a factory reset using the Onekey Environment. Hope this helps. Cheers,

Hi everyone.  So I was working on an essay today and accidentally dropped my textbook on my laptop, my screen specifically. My laptop reacted by my screen going pitch black (or so I thought) while the rest was still doing fine. Then I used a flashlight and realised the screen was still working, just very very dim despite the  max brightness. I have tried restarting the laptop while holding the F12 button, but that didn?t seem to work. As of other things, I?m not that knowledgeable when it comes to laptops so I wouldn?t dare try. Is it a software issue I could fix or do I need to just go to a store to get it fixed?

The screen is showing content and when working with an external monitor it all works fine , the computer works fine, but the screen is 0% bright i.e no lights at all, i can still see content with external light but its very dim. Today light came back and now has gone again. It's like the screen faces a shortage in electricity or something, This is frustrationg , please help. What should i do PS: i believe this has nothing to do with drivers or system, its material problem in the hardware.

A:Screen backlight problem in my ideapad 300

Hi makhloofy ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

The way it shows fine on the external isolates the issue with the LCD panel itself.

Possibility of hardware failure is apparent specially if display goes on /off when changing the angle of the lid as if the cable connection is being changed or the LCD backlight is not ok and also having the same issue in the BIOS.

Best to call in technical support for possible service (inwarranty repair) else reseating LCD connection may help.

Hope this help answer your query.

I have a problem with flickering screen which sometimes is very intensive, sometimes not. Mouse pointer is also behaving strangely according to flickering intensity. I tried reinstalling OS, drivers and finally found that the problem is caused by Intel UHD Graphics 620 drivers. Tried these from Lenovo website, also generic from Intel website, but result is the same. Other drivers (including BIOS) are up-to-date. External monitor (with 620 drivers) and BIOS/Windows install screens works great, so I gues the problem is not in hardware. Now I have to use default Microsoft basic display adapter, but with this I am unable to connect external monitor. Is it worth waiting for new drivers? Or should i give back this computer to warranty (bought only yesterday). Laptop specs:i5-8250U 1.6Ghz8GB DDR4 RAMNVIDIA GeForce MX150 2GBSamsung 850 Evo (changed instantly after buying)

I own an ideapad 100s. My laptop has broken before, but this time, I couldn?t fix it. I use the F9 key which makes the screen dark but not shut the computer down. You can slightly see the screen still, but it saves a lot of battery. This feature is really useful when I need to do something else while still keeping the laptop on. However, now this function is on forever! When I tried to boot up my laptop, I noticed there was just a black screen at first. I kept restarting the laptop, but I realized that the laptop was functioning, but the screen was just really dark like in F9 mode. I can sign in and do everything I wanted to do, so the laptop was still funcional. I can even go on settings to change the brightness, but it didn?t do anything. All the keys seemed to be working, so I doubt that the F9 key just broke and I can?t get the screen back to normal. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I bought this latest 8th generation laptop in January 2018 and for first 4 months I did not use it. As I began using it, it started flickering the screen. Initially I thought it?s a Windows issue so I did reset it, but the problem did not solve. So, I sent it to Lenovo, which wasted my 15 days. When I received it, i worked perfectly fine for 1 week. I did not want to ran into issues again so I stopped using its 2-in-1 mode, just used it very gently.  Now, after 1 week it has started screen flickering again which is becoming worse leading to jamming the screen and you cannot perform any task. I don?t want to send it to Lenovo again to waste my 15 days, because I sure it will only work for 1 week and then I will be back to same situation again. This is not the Windows issue as it happens on BIOS too. I am fed-up with this now and want to sue Lenovo for making such faulty laptops and advertising them as great laptops. Please advise how should I proceed. Thanks

My lappy was fine for the first 3 months then I started getting thin muli-coloured lines accross the screen, a bit like Interference. This developed over the last month and when the screen started flickering and the backlight was go-ing on and off, I dicided to seek help from the online support team. I might as well have asked my next door neighbours Parrot. Because this fault started when the machine was 3 months old and was steadily getting worse. There is no way that I was believing that this was software related. Even when I told the Lenovo clown that it also went off when I tapped the left hand side of the case he still wanted to try and diagnose it remotely for OS / Driver issues. Anyway, I am posting here to help anyone else out with the same problem. I fixed it by: Removing the 3 screws on the centre of the base (they have a small keyboard image next to them).Using a very thin bladed knife, lift the top of the keyboard away from the case. After lifting a little with the knife you can get your fingers under it. (It makes a horrible cracking noise as you seperate it. But don't worry, be brave. As long as you have removed those 3 screws, it will come away). Carefully lift the keyboard up and you will see the ribbon cable conector. It has a hinged flap that holds the cable in place. Lift this up and remove the cable and keyboard. Just above the keyboard cable connector is a small rectangled hole. If you look in there you will see another plug. It conne... Read more

So basically as of yesterday whenever I try to turn on my Ideapad 110 it just stays stuck on the Lenovo screen with the loading wheel and won?t proceed. So i want to change it myself with a suitable panel.  There're some different panels written in the Hardware Maintenance Manual for this device; HD-AG, AUO B156XTN03.4 HW0A HD AG S LED1 NB LCD 18200763HD-AG, CMI N156BGE-LA1 HD AG S LED1 NB LCD 18200764HD-AG, BOE HB156WX1-600 HD AG S LED1 NB LCD 18200765HD-AG, SDC 156AT29-401 HD AG S LED1 NB LCD 18200706HD-AG, LGD LP156WHU-TLB1 HD AG S LED1 NB LCD 18200766HD -G, AUO B156XTN03.2 HD G S LED1 NB LCD 18200449HD -G, CMI N156BGE-LB1 HD G S LED1 NB LCD 18200450HD -G, BOE HB156WX1-500 HD G S LED1 NB LCD 18200767HD -G, SDC 156AT29-L01 HD G S LED1 NB LCD 18200705HD -G, LGD LP156WHU-TLA1 HD G S LED1 NB LCD 18200768 I don't know which one is attached. I'll be glad if any Support Specialist can assist me to find out which panel is attached to my device right now. So i'll be able to search for a FULL HD one that suits. Thank you.

Hi all, I recently purchased a Lenovo Ideapad 720s 15" FHD, and noticed something strange on my screen. There appears to be a dark shadow running along the top screen border. Is this an issue that I should be concerned about? The shadow appears in everything that I do, from Powerpoint to Chrome. Is there any way to fix it?The picture attached shows what it sort of looks like.  Any help is appreciated! Thank you!
