I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Please reply to this post if you are experiencing the following discharging problem, or would have a perfect solution to it. Many thanks in advance  When on battery, the Internal Battery discharges First, then, the External Battery. I got the machine around a week ago, and my internal battery has already gone through 8 cycles (when reviewed through the Thinkpad Vantage App). Yet, the external batter has only gone through 1 cycle. Given the ease of replacing the external battery, and that Thinkpad advertised a "hot swap" battery bridge feature, I do not find a rational for the current discharging behavior. There is a relevant posts on Reddit, but draining both of my batteries does not get things back to normal.External link: https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/83vqj5/t480_internal_battery_draining_first/

I have been having issues with my battery on my T480 lately. I will have the laptop running around 50% battery and sometimes try to restart it but when I do, the laptop will not power back up. The Lenovo bios screen will post but when the Windows 10 circle starts spinning the computer fully shuts itself off and loses power and I cannot turn it back on until I plug the charger in, but when Windows loads it says I have battery. Yesterday I was using the laptop and when it went from 50 to 49% battery the laptop fully died and shut off and would not power on again until I plugged in the charger, yet showed 49% battery when Windows loaded again. I have been working out in the cold with my laptop and I am not sure if that is or has affected it some how but I can't keep having these types of issues when I need to be able to use my computer in the field. I know Lenovo used to have a tool to reset and deplete and recharge the battery, does this still exist? I ran the diagnostic tool but it finished instantly saying both batteries were fine with a time on the diagnostic of 0 seconds. Not sure if there is another tool I can be using to try and get this working properly again.

Hi, I bought a T480 back in March 2018 and the first thing I did was to put 32GB RAM ( 2 x 16GB Crucial CT16G4SFD824A.C16F).   I always found the battery life to be low... Around 4h in a youtube video playback loop.  I would kill it faster than that doing "real work". Yesterday, as a test, I remove the 2 memory stick and put back the original 8GB that came with the laptop. It seems 32GB kils the battery more than I expected. With low level brightness and idling, Lenovo Vantage gives me those number for the power draw (in Watts):32GB:  Around 7-8 Watts8GB: Around 3-4 Watts My question is: Does having 32GB really consumes that much power?  I've read that some have issues with the Crucial memory where they use more power than they should (low power). Anyone with 32GB can confirm their battery life is impacted that much or not?  And if not, provide the model of the ram, I'll order some!  Cheers.

Hello everyone, I just bought a Thinkpad T480 and the battery seems to be depleting very quickly. The computer, using both batteries, has a lifespan of 6-8 hours. At this point, I don't use the computer for purposes other than school work, web browsing, and occasional videos. Computer is running on default settings. I'm wondering if others have similar issues with brand new t480s and their batteries. Any tips to improve battery life would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am considering the T480 as my new laptop. The rear battery options are not entirely clear to me and I would like to make the right compromise between battery life and size/weight. There are 3 options: 24wh48wh72wh The last one is noted as cylindrical so I assume this will stick out on the back. But what about the 48wh battery, does that fit inside the laptop? And what are the weight differences?

I got new T480 yesterday and the battery status shows internal battery not detected. It is really strange that they supply external battery which is bulky and this one should be optioal rather than internal being optional. Or the internal battery is present but can't be detected by system? I haven't yet opened the back or visited service center yet. Any help on this please.

Hello, I have recently purchased a new Thinkpad T480 with a standard config which does NOT include dedicated Nvidia GPU, I just wanted to avoid potential problems under Linux which is the only one OS on my laptop. However, I experience quite poor battery life anyway. It hardly makes 5-6 hours although energy consumption according to powertop rarely exceeds 10W, now with few tabs open in the Firefox, it's 6-7W. Is it normal or there is something wrong with my computer? Honestly speaking, I expected longer results when I decided to buy this model. I would really like to avoid sending my laptop to the service since I need it basically everyday.I attach powertop results.

I ran the Battery Gauge Reset on a ThinkPad T480.  It finished the 100% charge on the internal battery about 9 hours ago, but the status is still at: Remaning: 100%Progress: Step 1 of 3: Calibrating to Full Charge The task bar battery indicates that the battery is "100% and fully charged".  It does not appear to have started step 2. Do I let it run hoping it will get to step 2 or stop the reset?  Is there a negative impact to stopping the resest? Thanks. Mike

A:T480 Battery Gauge Reset Issue

I have stopped the reset on my T480 several times due to work interruptions and not seen and bad side effects. In your case there seems to be some error condition anyway, so I'd stop the reset let the battery discharge by a few percentage points and then try it again.

However, after 8 hours, I am on 5% (of internal) and 61% of external battery.Power Mode in Windows 10 also set to Battery Saver (very left)Is it something normal? I have my MX150 disabled completely, has 0% of load and the rest of the programs are also closed. Just Wifi is on and the screen is around on 20%  From what I heard a T460s last long about 7-8 hours with internet use, however it has only a 24Wh battery. Mine has 24 plus the 72 Wh cylindrical battery, I guess, this should be way more or not?

In Lenovo Vantage I"ve been getting some strange readings from my second battery. Every 3 minutes or so the second battery's status display goes blank and I lose most of the battery's information readouts. Some how I don't think this is normal activity and it seems like the battery is losing it's connection to the computer despite the fact that the battery's charge status is still being reported in the windows power widget. In addition the internal battery seems to like to drain first instead of the hot swap battery. I've read several forum posts on how Vantage drains from the battery that has more wear first but the internal battery has drained 3 times and the external has yet to drain first. This is what the battery status looks like in between these "grey out" episodes.I'd appreciate any help.

Hello Lenovo community, I need assistance regarding finding compatible external batteries for the T480. So far I have found 2 compatible T480 external batteries : (1) https://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/accessories-and-monitors/chargers-and-batteries/batteries/BATT-BO-Thin... (2) The second battery is the 72 watts also called "61++" However, after contacting chat support, we found that the battery was not listed. I've discovered a good while back that Lenovo has decided to allow the internal battery to discharge first on ThinkPads with the bridge battery system depending on which battery has a lower wear level. This has been discussed multiple times such as in the following links:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T480-battery-discharge-problem-internal-...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T470-Choose-to-drain-external-battery-fi... https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T470-power-bridge-wired-battery-discharg...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/Battery-issues-about-my-t470/td-p/382544...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T25-Anniversary-Edition/T25-battery-discharge-order/td-p/39220...https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/9dp58f/battery_discharge_order/https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/Dear-Lenovo-please-answer-this-question-... Lenovo has not responded to the multitude of customer requests and complaints in regards to this issue. The other day my internal battery was discharging first. When I first bought this laptop around begining June this year, I was able to slide off the external 61++ (72Whr) battery and the laptop would seamlessly use the internal battery. A few months later I bought an extra 61 (24Whr) battery which I can casually swap between the two. Lately though I only had the 61++ inserted, and left the 61 lying around mid-charge. Last night, because of a whole day out, the 61++ battery was near depletion, so I pulled it out and inserted the 61 battery. When I flipped the laptop over again, I realise the laptop was powered off (not even sleep blinkers), it booted up whole, and the Windows event log complaint of a sudden active battery loss and unexpected system restart. In the last month I've probably gone through two BIOS updates; could that be the culprit? Has anybody else experienced this problem after BIOS update? Or has it (unlikely) got something to do with the new version of Lenovo's Vantage?

The T480_UserGuide_EN.pdf does not mention hot-swapping the removable battery, or how the Power Bridge works. I would like to know things like:1) Should the internal battery be above some charge threshold before hot swapping the removable battery?2) Is it safe to hot swap on AC power?3) Can the machine be used on only the internal battery (removable battery compartment empty)? Shouldn't this sort of thing be in the User Guide? Confusingly, page 101 says that the built-in battery must be disabled and the machine turned off and disconnected from any power sources before the external battery is removed. Have I missed something?

Even though I have about 80% battery, windows thinks I have 44% only. This is bad because when one of the batteries gets discharged, windows decides it has reached critical levels and hibernates the system. This started happening after I enabled battery charge threshold and set the batteries to charge only until 80% and only when below 40%. I tried uninstalling the batteries from the device manager but it didn't help.

I'm considering buying a docking station to go with my T480 but I'm not certain what solution is best for me.I want to connect two monitors, one runs [email protected] (VGA or DVI) and the other [email protected] (VGA or HDMI). Initially I was considering the 'ThinkPad USB-C-dockingstation (40A90090EU)' and use the VGA plus one of the DP ports with an adapter. However, when I was reading the display configuration options for this dock I came to the conclusion that this does not seem to be possible. (https://support.lenovo.com/nl/en/solutions/pd029622#USB-C%20dock) Browsing through the forum the second best option appears to be the 'ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock (40AC, 40AC0135XX)'. The advantage is that it supports higher resolutions and direct HDMI connectivity. What I read from the display configuration options my configuration should not be an issue. (https://support.lenovo.com/nl/en/solutions/pd029622#thunderbolt)However, I cannot confirm that this dock is compatible with a T480. I think it should be as the T480 manual lists one of the USB-C connectors on the left as Thunderbolt-3 compatible. Does anyone have experience with this combination of hardware or otherwise can someone confirm this solution is going to work? The docks are just to expensive for just giving it a try in my opinion.

Hi, I've just received my new T480 from the factory directly. Specs include a second M2 SSD of 128 Gb on top of the primary NVME SSD of 512Gb. I was expecting the primary drive to be the faster and bigger NVME drive and the secondary drive the slower and smaller M2 SSD. However, the config is the other way around, how crazy is that? No my questions for this forum are: - is anyone aware if this is by design or just a mistake- what's the best way to swap the two around, so that the NVME will be the OS and maintaining my current setup and all the partitions I guess I can use some tool like Acronis (does that work with NVME?), but maybe you have a better suggestion? Thanks in advance, David

On a few previous occasions, while running my Lenovo Thinkpad T480 running Windows 10 (10.0.17134 Build 17134), it shuts down without any prior notice nor warning, loosing any unsaved data. Each time it occurred, the machine started up just fine when powering on, still on battery only.It wasn't until today that I came to learn the reasoning. Prior before the unexpected shutdown, I had seen that Battery 1 was at 5%, and Battery 2 at around 80%. Minutes later, the laptop turned off without any warnings. Once rebooted and still running on batteries only (not plugged in), the battery status shows: Battery status after rebootIn other words, my laptop does not switch over to the secondary battery as soon as the first one runs out of juice. I have searched the forums but could not find any previous reporting of the same, so any advise how to troubleshoot this behavior? I'd really like to get this fixed as each time this occurs, I risk loosing any unsaved data.

Hello everyone! I recently got myself my first thinkpad, a t480! I love the machine so far and i didnt not have any issues until the last few days! All out of a sudden my wifi is completely unusable and im becoming desperate since i have tried out various attempts to fix it, but none worked! What happens, is that the wifi just keeps disconnecting permanently. It keeps the connection for maybe 1 or 2 minutes, then disconnects and after a few seconds, reconnects to the wifi again! It is literally unusable like that and i cant return the laptop to the manufacturer since im using it for my university and have a lot of important programms and data on it, i need it daily. Here is a small list of what i have tried so far:-reinstalled the drivers for the device-optimize the power settings-forbid windows to turn off the device to safe power-tried various drivers I could not come up with more solution attempts to that issue. Right now i am even thinking about just buying a new WiFi card for the Laptop (is it swapable in a t480? or is it integrated?)If you need further information to help investigate the issue please let me know!!! I hope there is another way to resolve that issue!Looking forwards to your help  Phil

I have two 27" 2560x1440 60hz monitors that are plugged into the new Pro side-connect dock (40AH) with a new T480 (Intel 620 integrated graphics) in Windows 10 Pro. I can get either monitor to work fine with the dock individually, but trying to run both simultaneously by extending or duplicating the desktop between them seems to fail as selecting either option under Display Settings just makes the primary monitor black out for a few seconds then come back - the secondary monitor stays black.  There's no error msg or popup that would help me investigate further unfortunately. I'm trying this with the T480's lid closed, and I'm running the latest 1.14 BIOS update and latest Intel HD graphics drivers. This setup worked fine on my old OneLink dock and X1 Carbon previously, so I don't think it's an issue with the monitors themselves. Anyone have a similar setup with the new Pro dock that's working?

Hello,Let me start off and say that I own a Lenovo T410, T420, T430, T480 and several other machines, and I am very familiar with these devices, and my primary operating systems are Windows 7 and OpenSUSE linux OS. As required by my employer, I bought a new laptop, Lenovo T480 which came with W10Pro (cannot downgrade) and installed an OpenSUSE KDE. In the beginning the T480 on W10 worked smoothly, but after one of the automatic updates, my sound system isn't working properly anymore. Before the update, I could have a dual channel sound output meaning, on W7 I could use "Realtek Audio Manager" to choose that I will have different volume setting for: 1. Machine speakers.2. Headphones if/when plugged in. This would prevent my laptop for blasting sound to the room through the speakers if I accidentally unplugged the headphone. This is a crucial feature to me as I am often connected to a meeting and I sometimes like to listen to music while working. This feature is gone. I have it working on the linux side, it is definitely driver/OS problem, not hardware. First, Lenovo T480 +W10 never came with realtek audio manager support.Second, I cannot download it seperately, and I somewhat get a buggy "resolution" if I downgrade where the mute button sticks. I am wondering if someone was able to solve this.Thank you for your time.-SJLPHI

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

..Hey gang..built my daughter a system for Xmas which is not going to be 100% I guess, but close..I built a dual-hard drive system one for the kids and one for her to do graphics work..I installed a spinner sata with Win 7 for kids and an SSD with Win 8.1 for her..installed 7 first and then 8 and things were fine, Win 8 would give me a nice screen asking me which OS I wanted to boot to.. but then the spinner started blue screening and grinding so I changed the hd and of course it screwed my boot up and I don't know alot about mbr's and that kind of thing but downloaded EasyBCD and was able to fumble my way through it to luckily get Win 8 back but here's my problem..When I shut down in Win 7 everything is fine as when I start it up I get a bios like screen asking me which OS I want to boot to..but when I shut down in Win 8 it automatically boots back to Win 8 without asking...I have to "restart" to get to the OS choice screen..I don't want to go messing around much further here without some direction as googling my way around miraculously saved me the first time but this problem is a little too convoluted to try and research on my own...Any suggestions greatly appreciated..merry xmas all!
