Resolution on screen looks terrible after unplugging and replugging.

Q: Resolution on screen looks terrible after unplugging and replugging.

I have 2 two monitor set up, both are samsung Tvs, one 32" 720p and one 37" 1080p. The 37" has never looked like true hd since I got in at Christmas time, but I've fiddled with it enough to make it bearable. The issue is with my smaller screen. I recently brought my rig to a friends house, bringing only my 32" monitor. The resolution was set at 1360 X 768, which was the recommended. After booting up at my buddies, the resolution looked terrible. Games and videos are not completely unwatchable, but colours look wrong and words look either fuzzy or grainy. When I go to change the resolution, the recommended is now 1920 X 1080 (which looks really small) and all other resolutions look bad. It almost as if my pc now recognizes this tv as a 1080p which it is not.
I have a GTX 760 GPU, run Windows 8.1 and the tv in question is connected through a HDMI to DisplayPort. (Other is HDMI to HDMI)
One more note, in the NVIDIA Control Panel, the 1360 X 768 option is only available for 1080p or 1080i, 720p is only a choice for 1280 x 720p Native resolution, which again, looks terrible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Preferred Solution: Resolution on screen looks terrible after unplugging and replugging.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there,

Well let me describe my set up first. I'm running a HP Pavilion dv2000 (Vista Home Premium) series laptop, and I have two external hard drives connected to the laptop through a 4-port USB Hub. The two I have are a Western Digital MyBook 1110, and a Seagate FreeAgent Pro. Both have an AC power supply and are plugged into a power strip. There have been no recent software or hardware changes.

Having really bad resolution issues on Dell XPS 13.
I'm using it for University, and I'm doing a computer science course so the command line is an important feature. The text on it is completely zoomed out, I have went into the properties and maximized the font to no avail. Here's what it looks like, the image may not do it justice - I really have to squint to read it.
Most other programs are like this too. Unity 3D looks really blurry, Sublime Text 2 looks the same. Text looks like it has been zoomed in on a few times so it fits the resolution and as a result you can almost see the individual pixels on text.
Here's another program: Malwarebytes

This does feel like a bit of a joke considering the laptop is worth well over a thousand pounds.

A:Terrible resolution issues on Dell XPS 13 2015 QHD model

Hello,
Have you gone into the screen resolution control panel for your system and selected the option to "Make text and other items larger or smaller" ?
If not, right click anywhere on your desktop and select the option to change screen resolution.   You should see that text size option near the bottom of the screen.    Alternately, you can go into your control panel on your system and go into the "Appearance and Personalization" section.
TBH, I'm not sure that text control will work in the Command Prompt or not.  I would think that it basically another Window that the OS can control the font size, etc., but I've never really tried it so I am not sure it will work.   You may need to change the overall resolution of the monitor to get to an appropriate screen size.
Let me know if that text size adjustment helps or not.  if not, I'll see if I can find something else that may help.

When I close the lid of my computer, it makes the alert noise as if you unplugged a device. When I open the lid, it makes the alert noise as if you plugged in a new device. The screen takes a few seconds to turn on, and all of my windows which were open will be resized, and all of my desktop icons are rearranged.Happens every time I open or close the lid, and it's been about a week now.About two months ago, I actually sent this in to Lenovo for some repair from a drop, and they replaced just some plastic parts of the shell and the keyboard. It worked fine when I got it back, and once the screen is on, it continues to work fine. I'm mentioning this because I don't think the screen is becoming physically unplugged, it looks like it is in top shape after the repairs. Any thoughts?-Matt

I saw some similair threads on the forum when looking for an answer, and the answer i found was to use the 'unplug device' icon in the bottom right corner. But the problem i have with this, is there is no icon there, i click the arrow to see the rest and still not there. Do i need to turn off my laptop everytime before unplugging mouse, or did i miss something? If further information is needed just let me know

IdeaPad 320 screen went black.  Perhaps a backlight issue.  Sent device in to have it serviced.  After a month of no email communication from Lenovo Support Depot (only from my continual attempts to contact Lenovo) I am told that perhaps the damage occured during shipment.  Lenovo is unwilling to provide picture proof of the water damage.  Instead, they asked me for a picture of the device before I sent it in!  This is beyond ridiculous!  Who else is having issues with lack of communication from Lenovo's repair depot?  Who else is being told that their warranty is void due to liquid spill corrosion?  Is it just me?

Hi. I'm new here and this is my first post. I looked around a little and found one other thread with a similar question, but the question wasn't really answered. I can't find anything on the net that doesn't confuse me so bad it makes my head hurt, so I thought I'd try asking here. Thanks in advance for any answers I get.

I will try and be as thorough as possible, although the resulting question will be simple. I'll start out with why I am asking the question to begin with.

So I am trying to play a game I used to play nearly ten years ago. It's a free online game called Continuum/Subspace and there are user created "zones" or variations of the game within the game (if that makes sense). I play in a zone called Trench Wars. It's a top down game, meaning you are looking down at your ship as if from above and the screen scrolls as you move to reveal more of the area (map) you are playing in. You are in a spaceship of your choice with varying weapons for each ship. The game requires aiming at your enemies before firing at them and anticipating their moves.

Well I noticed that playing at a higher resolution allows you to see more of your immediate area and expands your view of the map. It works just like your desktop in essence. The higher the resolution, the smaller the icons, but the more space you have. In the game, the higher the resolution, the smaller the ships are, but you can see more space around you. Obviously, this would give an advantage to anyone playing ... Read more

A:Forcing Screen Resolution Higher Than Native Resolution

Simple answer is: you can not go over the native resolution of LCD panel because its physical thing for each pixel lcd panel has a cell you can not have more pixels than there is physical pixels in that panel.

smaller than native resolutions achieved by grouping more than one cell to form pixel thats why non native resolution on lcd sometimes gets blurry or edgy

I have a very old but perfectly reliable HP LaserJet 5, which under Windows 7 worked perfectly using a USB-Parallel converter.

Under Windows 10 (Enterprise RTM, clean install, not yet Threshold 2), it is recognised (and prints fine) if its USB connection is plugged into the computer after switching on the printer.

However, once turned off, it is not recognised just by switching it back on. Although it appears in Windows Printers correctly, it won't print unless the USB wire is unplugged and then plugged back in again.

Any suggestions appreciated - it's been perfect since 1997 under Windows 98, XP, and 7 (with the USB-Parallel converter).

Sadly just not under the 'best Windows ever'.

Were you able to solve that printing problem with laserjet 5l?
I own that printer as well, but i'm using old LPT port, which worked flawlessly on win7.
I upgraded to win10, and having a problem, too.
Windows recognize printer, i tried to reinstall it, but it just wont print, it says "printer is in error state", or "the printer couldn't print test page".

I keep getting this blue screen everytime I use more than 2 programs at once or if I try to watch movies on the internet, or it happens just for no reason after half an hour or even sooner. And if I let the computer alone it happens nothing. Its driving me mad.

A problem has been detected and windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen sppears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your compurter, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select safe mode.

I purchased a Lenovo Y510P about a year ago and it worked perfectly for a while. Then gradually the screen started to get progressively worse and worse until it ended up like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZfM1FVaMoI It only does this after using the computer on high-ish brightness for an extended period of time. I sent it in to lenovo to get it fixed and they sent it back after three weeks having done nothing but tell me that they found as small crack on the side which they offered to fix for a generous 300 dollars. They said they found no problem with my screen. the flickering goes away if A. i push on the screen. or B. I turn down the brightness. the problem with turning down the brightness is that when he screen behaves like this is that if it is turned down too low the screen blacks out. Hey Folks,

Started happening just recently and pretty interesting. I know I am due for a crash when my computer no longer auto-sleeps and my DAC (basically a USB soundcard to non audiophiles) will no longer output sound. What is interesting is that it does not actually crash unless I unplug the DAC from my USB hub and then plug it back in. Doing so causes an immediate BSOD. As far as I can tell the computer won't crash until I mess with the DAC (but no other option but a restart if I want sound.) Greatly appreciate the help!

This started when my monitor began to have scribbly swiggly lines and then windows would crash, followed with a BSOD (attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed) with a 0x00000116 stop code, and nvlddmkm.sys.

Every time I logged to windows, this would happen again within 10-20 minutes.
I tried updating my nvidia driver, no luck. Tried reverting back to an older nvidia driver, no luck. Same thing happens.

Boots into safe mode, no problem, but eventually even safe mode began showing swiggly lines in the background, but it doesn’t crash, and I could still navigate everything fine. So I backed up everything there. Due to problems of getting the safe mode prompt to come up, I ended up making it boot to safe mode by default from the control panels boot option.

I decided to disconnect and reconnect my video card, and also ram, dust out the insides, reconnecting everything to see if it helps. And install display driver uninstaller if I was able to boot back in to wipe out any residual drivers if that might be the cause.

However, after I reconnecting everything, the computer now won’t even boot or POST. It doesn’t beep when I turn it on. It powers on fine, all the fans spin. PSU, CPU and video card fan works. My monitor has no input signal and goes to standby. Mouse and keyboard connected. Tested my monitor in two other computers, it works fine. Temperature indicator on my case are all normal.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

It sounds to me like 2 things:

Either your gpu (I suspect the most) or your psu is slowly dying.

Replace with a known good part (or use integrated graphics if you have it) at a time and see what happens.

Hi, I have finally managed to (hopefully) reach somone who can help me. It is impossible to find a direct email to reach someone to help without making an international call. I have purchased my Lenovo Y50-70 in the USA (North Carolina) in Nov 2014. I moved to New Zealand in Jan 2015. My laptop started giving problems around May 2016.My warranty has expired, but I would still like to have it repaired. It is just shocking that the warranty is 1 year and the laptop has issues after less that two years. I had a Lenovo before and it lasted 8years without problems...So don't understand how the newer models don't make it to a couple of years?? Lenovo Autralia or New Zealand can't help me because they can't get parts and don't honour any international warranties. My laptop swithches on, the fan runs, the power light blinks and the keyboard lights up, but the screen stays black. A few times after switching it on and off it worked, but as soon as I switched it off and on after that it does the same thing. Ultimately it stopped showing any display at all. I have connected it to another monitor, but that also remains black. Lenovo states they are continually working on making customer service better, but I have wasted hours of my time trying to reach anyone who can help. It would be really helpful to have a direct email address for international support. Thank youLooking forward to your response

So, for some time now my computer has been freezing randomly. Truly randomly. I don't have to be doing anything at all, I can just be at the desktop, or sometimes I return to find it frozen. Although, most of the time it isn't frozen, just REALLY SLOW. You have to wait a minute for the mouse to move and inch. I have a setup where I have a 360 hooked up to my monitor. I can press the input switch to go between the two. However, if I turn off the 360 without switching to the PC manually (usually happens automatically when the 360 turns off) then it will be frozen when the screen returns to it. And yes, it IS frozen, or rather really really slow like I described before. Now here's the thing. If I try to restart, it usually gets to a point where is says "loading IDE drive" or something, and stay there. BUT if I replug my hard drive, it boots up fine and won't freeze for a certain amount of time. Sometimes an hour, sometimes a week. The problem always returns though. I was wondering if anyone knows a more permanent fix? I recall reading somewhere about a year ago it had to do with some setting? Some frequency of megahertz or something.

HI,
I have an XPS 15 9550 laptop with 4K screen. I installed the recently released BIOS update which is supposed to address the flickering screen issue. Previously I only ever experienced some minor intermittent flicker at brightness level 0 but after the update, flickering was occurring quite frequently - I checked this upto brightness level 50% and it occurs at all the way up.
It appears the update has made things much much worse Luckily I managed to roll back to A06 which must be the previous release as its the only one on the downloads page.
Anyone else find the update made things much worse?

I apologize, but you will most likely first notice how long this opening post is. I've dealt with BSOD for quite a while now and I've decided to search for help.. So, I've come to you guys. I've done a lot of research on the problem so I'll throw out some of my ideas.

The Problem:
I can't seem to play semi-graphic intensive video games for no longer than 15 minutes (games such as Counter-strike:source, BF2, Half-life 2 etc). My computer will freeze momentarily, go black, and then proceed to the Blue screen. It used to be that I would recieve an "IRQ not less than or equal" error, but now my BSOD crashes remain just blue, no error codes, 'nuttin'. Now, when I play less intensive graphic games such as regular Counter-strike 1.6, I can go for a few hours before it crashes.

Some Ideas
Heat
Because my computer seems to do a bit better on less graphic intense games, I'm wondering whether it may be a heat issue. More stress = more heat = less time till BSOD? I'm not sure, I'm not a computer guru, but I know a little.
Here are my temps: CPU 51C/123F (55-57C under stress)
MB 34C/93F

Voltage/Power
I did some research, and I learned maybe that power could play a part in problems with BSOD? My PS is one that came with my computer case and I believe it is 350w. It's not the greatest in the world. Idk if i could be gettin too little power and the games may cause it to crash.

Take a look on the side of your power supply and tell us the brand name, wattage, and how many amps on each rail. That should help because you have some things on your power supply that don't seem quite correct.

Also, just for kicks, download this free program and tell us the temps, the voltages, and the fan speeds. That should help:

About 3 months old but problems from new (this is my second unit, first arrived with broken touchpad)

I get the following error message approx every 10/15 minutes
"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver Intel HD Graphics drivers for Windows(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered"
Worse than this, is the constant flickering on the screen, as if some sort of 'auto level' is measuring room ambient and constantly adjusting the screen.
Calibration was also WAY out on arrival. I have calibrated using Spyder colormeter and display colour is now good.
On mid grey screen, the imminence levels are VERY patchy across the screen
Am considering rejecting under Sale of Goods Act as not fit for purpose.

A:XPS 9550 Intel driver crashes and terrible screen flicker

1. What BIOS version do you have? The latest one (v1.20.10) has display issues.
2. What version of the Intel Intel HD Graphics do you have installed?

I'm a global traveller, based in Africa, and wanted to share my terrible experience with Lenova Customer service. After a 10 year stint with Apple, I decided to give Lenova a chance, given the improvement in their product line and opted to purchase a Yoga 900 in Taipei during the business trip there last December. I was very happy with the product until last month, when I got  my screen cracked on a flight from Lagos to Nairobi. I thought, this is inconvinient, but I have global warranty so it should be fixed very soon. This is where the saga began. I checked four countries that i know I was visiting over the next few weeks to see if I can get replacement or a fix. In Nigeria --> They do not have a service centre, so only through 3rd party service centres. I register for a repair, after 3 weeks, they called me to tell me they cannot get the part.In Kenya --> same storyIn Turkey -->  would take 3-4 weeks and no guarantee they would be able to source the partIn US --> the usual, would take 3-4 weeks and no guarantee they would be able to source the part. In addition they told me they are not even sure whether they can service my computer, given it was purchased out of US. It is beyond me how a company who claims to be global can fail on customer service and support in such a major way. And I'm not even claiming this service under warrantly - just want a simple screen replacement or being provided with a replacement machine. Yoga se... Read more

Hi
I have tried to google for solution but nothing worked. I cannot come to windows xp (to desktop). No matter how I boot (normally, safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with cmd and so on), it always gives me out bluescreen error that goes away extremly fast (around 1 microsecond or even less). I tired around 15 different copies of xp - all were bootable but nowhere were the option Recovery Console, also not (Re)Install Windows. I repeat, I cannot come to desktop. I tried with Linux's knoppix cd - hardware is good, all datas could be accessable well. But this doesn't mean anything to me. Thanks good it goes only through Knoppix bootable cd, I don't want to have linux installed. I want to come to xp. Im not so good in Knoppix - just in case if someone thought to give me some instructions through it.
My question is the following:
Could anyone please provide me a solution? I know the following is against the rules but I have no choice; Does anyone know where, online, I could get proper installation windows xp pro (sp3)? Which will, for sure, have the options to reinstall (overwritte) xp over damaged one?

I apologize for this, I know its not good to ask this but I really see no other way.

Hopefully someone could help please.

Thank you.

A:Terrible Damage; XP Hard Drive Died (Blue screen while booting)

Hello!

Your operating system is most likely corrupted.
Or HDD might be damaged.

Do you have any important files on HDD???
Take out HDD, connect HDD to some other PC and backup important data.

Check what make/model is HDD. Visit manufacturer's Web Site,
download diagnostic tools and scan your HDD.

If HDD is bad, it is vital to backup data as soon as possible.
If HDD turns out to be OK, you have two options:
1. To run System Repair.
2. Wipe HDD and do a clean install of operating system.

Post back after you scan HDD...

This problem started happening about a week ago and I've never had a problem like this before. The problem is that often (but not always) when I start a game, it goes into full screen and it will usually change the resolution like mosts games do, except when I either exit the game normally, or alt+tab out of it, the resolution does not change back to normal. I have my desktop resolution set at 1024x768 normally. This seems to hold true for almost all my games. Even the windows screensaver causes the same problem if it changes the resolution.

After this happens, if I go into display properties and try to change any settings whether it is resolutuon, color depth, or even the refresh rate. I get an error that says it can't be done and I probably don't have administrative rights. The only way to fix it is to reboot the computer.

My graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce4 MX 420. Around when the probelms started I updated the drivers to some beta drivers from the Nvidia site. I assumed those might be the cause so I downgraded to the latest official foreceware drivers which I had installed before. The only other things I can think of that I have installed before the problem occoured was the new Microsoft Anti-spyware but I doubt that would have caused it.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this problem? I am out of ideas...

Hello experts and fellow Windows 8 users,

I am running the Windows 8 OS and currently having terrible mouse lag. My mouse will run fine for about 20 seconds-ish and then stall for a good 1-2 seconds. This can be incredibly annoying, especially when I am in my gaming mode (sc2 shout out). Any idea as to how to fix this? I use duel monitors and have tried reverting back to one, didn't fix anything, all drivers are up to date, and I have also searched the internet for numerous answers. None seem to work so far.

Mouse specs:
Wireless USB mouse, Logitech LAZER. I know it is for fact not the batteries as I have replaced them 2x to see if that was the case, and also, buying a new mouse did not resolve my problem.

Any and all help is appreciated and thank you good people for helping out!

PS: How common is this problem w/ w8, im hearing other people have similar problems?

I bought my Yoga 910 with 4K resolution, Windows 10 and 16 GB/550 GB configuration in February 2017. I am facing following issues since last few days:  Screen resoltion is faded and appears like old days 800 pixels resolution rather than 4K, eventhough settings are all OK.Screen fonts appears to be fading...Screen acts like a "see through" occasionally...Meaning you can see an open app (like e-mail) and it surfaces on the screen.Contacted Lenovo support and guy was completely clueless. He loaded "Hardware" check utility from Lenovo on my machine and had asked me to run and he will call you back to me in two hours! He never called. In the meantime hardware check did not detect any issues! Any suggestions???

I just bought an HP Pavillion dv6-7014nr and I love it! Except for one thing. I upgraded to the 1920x1080 screen to get the HD quality and the matte display. Everything on this screen is so tiny, its uncomfortable to read. I have increased the text size in windows to 130% dpi and I have downloaded and extension in Firefox to keep the zoom level I like. My problem is that with this increased DPI setting, the text in programs, such as iTunes gets cut off or overlaps. I was just wondering if there was a solution to this problem, or is it just something I have to live with?
Thanks very much!

Dan

A:[SOLVED] 1920x1080 screen resolution on a 15.6" Laptop Screen

1920x1080 doesn't suit everyone on a 15.6" screen as it's really more suited to large-screen external monitors (20" or more). It's big plus of course is that it gives you much more screen space to use for multi-tasking or using apps which have many palettes (like Photoshop). Personally I think 1920x1080 is way too high for the average laptop screen size unless you've got perfect eyesight.

If you don't need all that space, you may find that setting a lower resolution (and changing DPI & zoom levels back to their defaults) is more in line with what your eyesight can deal with. It probably won't look as pin-sharp as the native 1920x1080 resolution though, but at least you shouldn't get some app Windows extending beyond the screen edges.

This wont fit the whole desktop on ure screen if u have a big widescreen like mine, but this will make it unable to move items off the screen

Hope this helps

A:Setting Screen Resolution to Max my Screen is not responding.

Disconnect from your graphics card and plug into the motherboard port.

Uninstall the drivers for the 780 and start over.

You may or may not have to remove the card.

Unless someone comes up with a better idea.

Hello everyone! Iv'e been having an issue that's driving me crazy and i'm hoping someone here can help.

The issue i'm having is when my computer goes into sleep/hibernate mode and i wake it up, the screen appears to have a resolution issue ( picture attached ). I figured this wasn't a big deal so i turned sleep/hibernate mode off and just turn my screen off when not in use. I'm getting the exact issue though! When i turn my screen off and back on, the resolution is messed up.
So now i need help resolving this. If it also fixes it for the sleep/hibernate mode, that would be great but not necessary
The ONLY recent change is I upgraded to an Asus GTX560 Ti DirectCU II Top OC graphics card. I installed the card into my computer and windows automatically downloaded the drivers for it.

Things i've tried:
1)Uninstalled and reinstalled graphics drivers using windows update and then again through Nvidia website
2) Currently using HDMI, but get the same issue with DVI-D (single) cord
3) Completely reinstalled Windows 10 Pro from scratch
4) Double checked all connections
5) Look through settings on my TV and settings on the graphics card through Nvidia Experience
6) Googled similar issues, but im not finding many that have the SAME issue as me
My setup:
CPU: Core 2 Duo E8500
Mobo: Dell OTP412 X38
GPU: Asus GTX560 Ti DirectCU II Top OC (1gb DDR5)
PSU: Corsair CX650

A:Screen/Resolution Issues When Turning Screen On/Off

You appear to have a very old Dell (OptiPlex?) model desktop.
What is its model name and model number?
What is the exact "service tag" and "express service code" numbers on it?

Is it running Windows 10 Pro 32-bit or 64-bit?
You should download and save the appropriate driver from the NVIDIA site, then select the custom install option, then select the clean install option.

Are you having the same issues when using a standard computer monitor instead of using a HD TV?

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum, just joined actually, and I had a quick question. When I set my resolution to any other res other than the highest possible i get a black outline around my screen due to the resolution not stretching to fit my entire screen. This is fairly recent, as it never used to happen. I'm figuring it might be a driver problem, but I'm not sure. Any help would be great.

A:When lowering screen resolution, screen does not stretch to fit

Hi SevenUltimate welcome to the forums

I see you have a Geforce 220, I have the 210, the model down from you and have exactly the same issue.

Firstly, yes it's a driver issue. I have had to roll back to 258 edition to get it working properly again.

Take a look at my post about it here: Make Full screen actually look full screen maybe the suggestions will work for you, although they didn't for me.

Failing that, I'm willing to upload the 258 edition drivers to my Skydrive if you want? (mods/admins: please let me know if this is against the rules, don't think it is, but you never know)

Hope it helps

Would anyone of you have an idea what's going on here?

Hi Everyone,

Ihave a new computer. Iwant to download a desktop wallpaper.Everything I see is smaller resolution than my wide screen 1140X900. How can i get these wallpapers to fit my screen?

charley1

A:Screen Resolution

Hi charley1.
I assume you mean "1440"X900.?
You can force a smaller size wallpaper to fill the screen by right clicking on your desktop, select properties>Desktop tab. Under "Position" select "Stretch" from the drop down menu.
Unfortunetly, you will end up with a stretched image that does not look real well.
There are plenty of free wallpapers out there available in 1440X900 if you look around.
Another alternative would be to just make your own or take a larger image and crop out a 1440X900 section of it.
