Microsoft Provider error - Excel/Access 2000

Q: Microsoft Provider error - Excel/Access 2000

I have created a macro that will run an access database query and copy the results into Excel. It runs fairly well except on one PC where it gives me a:

"Run-time error '3706' Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed."

The error occurs in this particular line of code:
' Open connection to the database
cnt.Open "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" & _
I'm not sure if I have to change the version of the provider and if this is case how does one go about doing so.

Thank you

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Look at it's version of ADO in the ODBC manager. Might just need to upgrade.

I have a document in word that I merge with data in an Excel sheet. This worked fine for years. One day it gives me the can't establish connection message to the DDE. No big deal, I unistalled and re-installed...fixed.
2 weeks pass and it starts again, so I uninstall but when I re-installed I got the following error during setup:

Error 1919. Error configuring ODBC data source: MS Access Database, ODBC error 6: Component not found in the registry. Verify that the file MC Access Daatbase exists and that you can access it.

I don't even use Access. Regardless I hit Ignore, (only thing that will make it go away), and it will merge for 2 weeks or so and then quit again and I have to do the same thing over and over. I even tried upgrading to Office XP but had the same problem about 2 weeks after installing.

Also when this happens you can't use the find feature in other Excel documents.

I have tried all of the "suggestions" Microsoft has offered. NONE WORKED

Did you create the database? If not go to the database creater / administrator, otherwise cut out all the sensitive data, and attach a copy to this thread. It's probably something to do with the way the database is set-up.

Haven't come across this myself, may be a common known issue.

I'm using the Windows XP operating system and had Microsoft Office installed on it a while ago. All the applications were working fine when I first got it. Yesterday, when I tried to open Microsoft Excel I get the message that 'the feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available', and it asks me to insert the 'Microsoft Office 2000 Premium' disk and click ok. Unfortunately, I don't have this disk because it was someone else that installed Office on my computer for me. I don't understand why it's not letting me use Microsoft Excel and why I get this message from Windows Installer every time I try to use the application.

It was working fine not long ago and I've used it to make several spreadsheet files, all of a sudden for no apparent reason I'm getting this message every time I try to use it.

Can anyone give me any advice and has anyone had a similiar problem? I would appreciate any help.

A:Microsoft Excel help, keeps asking for 'Microsoft Office 2000 Premium' disk

When it was installed, some aspects will be "installed on first use", and now it wants to install the function, for which you need the CD.

You really cannot use it successfully (not to mention legally) if you do not own and have the disks.

Hi People,

I seem to be having some trouble with grouping data.

For Example I have the following Data source in my spreadsheet:

Cutomer Name Type Tax/No A/B Total KG $/KG Total
David Dust I No B 10 350 3500
David Dust II Tax A 19 100 1900
David Dust II Tax A 20 200 4000
Jenny Ash I No B 12 120 1440
Jenny Ash I Tax A 10 100 1000
Etc....

Now I want to format the data source in a new spread sheet by linking values so it would look like this:

Part A :
Name Tax-KG Tax-$/KG No-KG No-$/KG
David 39 300 10 350
Jenny 10 100 12 120

Part B:
Name %KG KG Avg Total %Total
David 0.69 49 191.83 9400 0.79
Jenny 0.31 22 110.9 2440 0.21

Part C:
Type Tax-KG Tax-Total No-KG No-Total
Dust I 10 3500
Dust II 39 5900
Ash I 10 1000 12 1440

Now the biggest problem is I want Part A & B & C to fill those data automatically when I entered the data at the data source worksheet (So i dont have to highlight the data range manually everytime there is a new data I want to enter). Is this a feasible thing in Excel?

Thank you in advance.

A:Microsoft Excel 2000 Help.

If you like to use a new tabsheet within the same file for your spreadsheet, all you have to do on the new spreadsheet is enter the = sign in the cell you want a particular information to show up, then move to the original cell with the data and click on it. Once clicked, press enter and your done. So everytime you make changes to the original cell, the changes will also be made on the cell that contains the = sign.

A:{SOLVED} Microsoft Excel 2000

Hi, Aries.

Sure, this is an integral part of Excel. It's called cell formatting. You can format just one cell by clicking on it, a whole column by clicking on the column letter, or a whole row by clicking on the row number. If you've got a heading like "DATE" at the top, don't worry, Excel will not try to change that word to look like a date--it's safe to select the whole column anyway.

So just select the area you want to format. Hit Format-Cells. Select the Number tab. Click on Date. On the right, scroll down to the one that says March 14, 1998 and click on it. Hit OK.

I manually entered the VB code. I continually get an error message saying "cannot locate macro".
I deleted form, re-generated it writing code for the command buttons.
STILL get the error message saying "cannot locate macros".

I recently had to repair my Windows 2000 installation following a "Blue Screen" stop error and used an Emergency repair disk to get it running again. Since this repair I have been unable to access my spreadsheets contained in my work folder and get the same error message for each file in that folder: "Unable to access read-only file filename.xls".

I have checked the properties of these files and their attributes are set as read only, files in other folders can be opened with no problem. My work folder is on my second hard drive and is a sub directory of the "My Documents" folder, I have a shortcut to it in the Start menu and usually access this folder from there.

I believe that the repair to Windows 2000 has somehow altered the permissions affecting access to this folder - any ideas?

I will also post a similar question in the Windows 2000 forum.

A:Unable to access Excel files in Win 2000

Welcome to TSG, firedart. But please don't post the same question in more than one place, okay? We'll take care of ya! We move them if we think we should.

Anywaze. Did you happen to burn these files to a CD? That will put the read-only attribute on. What you should do when you *restore* your files from a CD, is then go into Windows Explorer, select them all (not the folders, but the FILES too) and right-click, hit Properties, and remove the READ-ONLY checkmark. Burning to CDs causes this. And it's not removed just by copying back to the C drive.

I'm hoping that's the case here, but let us know right away if it's not.

Hello everyone.

When I import data from an Access DB into excel format, the numbers field doesnt work so I cant for instance do a sum for total number of hours spent on a job.

I can use the tick on seperate cells which enters the data to number, but this would take far too long. I have also tried to right click on the collum header and format cells to numbers but this also doesnt work.

So my question is this. Is there an easy way to reformat the cell data to number, or for excel to do this automatically on import?

Thank you

Hi,

I need to create a database that allows calculations on the fly. I thought to do it Excel and have the Excel worksheet somehow in the form.

I was able to bring the Excel cells into Access, but the calculations don't work once it's in Access. Is there anyway to do this?

Additionally, I see in Help something about MS Access Forms being used to enter data into Excel. I cannot get this to work. I went through add/remove features and made sure everything was installed. In Excel when I click on Data there is no MS Access Forms option. Does anyone know about this? How can I get it to work?

I have a Windows 2003 server R2 Sp1 and XP SP2 workstations with Office 2000. Occasionally 2 users are able to access the same excel 2000 spreadsheet at the same time without receiving a file open notice until the second user tries to save the file. Then they receive a message stating that the file is in use and that they can do a save as. Usually if a user tries to access a file that is already in use, they receive a file in use popup and they are given the choice to open read only, notify or close. This issue does not happen all the time and is not specific to one particular file. And the file was never setup for sharing. I've checked my security and permissions for the shares and I don't see a solution. I've suspected file corruption and copied the data into a new file and replaced the old file thinking that would solve the problem and no luck. Is there something I'm missing?

1) I'm using Microsoft 2000... I would like to know how do I go about creating a Yes/No prompt.

For example, I created a macro that will delete all records in a table. However, before an end-user run the macro, I would like them to be prompted with a message that says "You are about to delete.... Do you want to continue"? If the end-user was to click "yes", the macro will continue to execute. However, if the end-user was to click "no", I want the macro to be disabled.

2) Another question I have is how do I design queries so end-users cannot save changes to the data (upon them filtering the data).

Specifically, I created queries that end-users can only read the data, and they do not have access to the design view. However, after the end-user filters the data, Microsoft Access prompts them and ask them would they like to save the changes. I want it so they cannot save the filters they created.

We have a Microsoft Access (2000) built application installed on user's system (OS, WINDOWS 7)which, have coding done in VB and uses Access database (on a file server)  & has functionality to print data using report, which actually saves the file
in PDF format.
When we click on 'Print' option it shows "NOT RESPONDING". It takes around 15-20 minutes to save the report as a PDF file.
Earlier it used to happen in fraction of seconds.
Issue started all of a sudden whereas the user could do the activity on the same data few hours earlier.
We are not sure on the root cause.
We checked network connectivity and re-installation of the application but no luck. We suspect it might be because of some Microsoft patch. Although when we tried uninstalling, it worked until we restarted the user machine, and issue came up again.
Patch was KB3178690.
Can anyone please help us with this issue?

Hi guys,

I have a slight problem.
I am using a Fujitsu 128Mb RAM PC (W98SE) at work, and I'm using Office 2000, except for Access (cos we have lots of old Access 97 datbases).
I have several reports that have to be sent in Excel format, so I have set up MS Queries to return the required data from the original Access queries into Excel worksheets.
This has always worked fine up until recently.

Now when I open any of the Excel reports and hit "Refresh Data in the relevant area, I get an Illegal Operation error and the spreadsheet has to be shut down.
The second time I open it and refresh, it works fine.

I plan to reinstall Office possibly next week (I have a couple of other minor issues), and I figure this may be just some sort of memory problem.
Although 128Mb sounds plenty for what I do (i.e. almost entirely MS Office stuff), I occasionally get Word screwing up with the old Out of Memory error and have to restart my machine.

Is there some reason that these illegal operations occur every first attempt to refresh data? I'm just bemused because it's worked fine for 2 years on 2 different machines, but now it's started being cheeky.

Cheers,
Gram

Using Excel 2000 with countif and sum functions (countif at top of ea. column and sum at end of each row). Create additional column for countif results by referencing the countif cells, I am then adding the countif results to the sum results for a grand total.
When I try to sort the grand total, I get #ref! and #value! error messages in some of the cells and the others are sorted incorrectly.

Any clues??

Thanks

A:Error Messages When Sorting in Excel 2000

Not all formulas will work properly after sorting. That's because many formulas have *relative* references.

For instance, if you use =if(a1=b1,"true","false")

After sorting, it will read differently. If you want your formulas not to return errors, you can:

change your formulas to read, for instance, =if($a$1=$b$1,"true","false") so that they always look at the same cells regardless of their location

copy the cells that contain these underlying formulas (don't move your cursor after copying), then hit Edit-Paste special-Values to remove the underlying formula.

Hope this helps.

I have Office 2000 on my machine. For some reason, the file associations for Excel are not complete. xls defaults to Excel.exe, but has a funny icon (logo is in middle instead of off to the side like in Word). Others, like xlt, xla do not even have associations. I tried to add.edit these in Explorer, but the system say that xls is in use by "xls_auto" or somehting like that and won't let me make changes.

Also, when I double click on any Excel icon off say the desktop, i get the following errors:

'C:\WINNT\Profiles\jsaul\Desktop\New.xls' could not be found. Check the spelling of the file name, and verify that the file location is correct.

If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files on the File menu, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved, or deleted.

and

'Worksheet.xls' could not be found. Check the spelling of the file name, and verify that the file location is correct.

And then Excel opens to blank worksheet. The workaround is to open the file via the file menu. This is combersome if i want to open a xls that was sent via Outlook, I have to Save As first and then open via File menu.

Any help would be appreciated. I am running NT 4.0 on my machine. Thanks,
Jeff

A:Excel 2000 File Association error

Try the following:

In Excel, Click Tools ---> Options and select the "General" tab. Make sure to uncheck the option
"Ignore Other Applications." Exit Excel and try again

If that doesn't work try to unregister and then re-register Excel

Click Start --> Run and type excel.exe /unregserver
Click Start --> Run and type excel.exe /regserver

As a last resort, here is a registry fix from microsoft. Try the other two options first

I have an Excel program running that records data and saves at the end of each day(12:00am). Every now and again the program locks up with no means of looking at the VB Code or the sheets, all I can do is shut it down and with that I get the Error log has been created... message. My question is anyone experienced something like this, and is there a way to find out what the error log contains? My thought is the error log may give some kind clue to the problem.
Thanks in advance for any advise.
Eric

I've installed the MM Analyser (1.2 build 4.0.7285.0) on 3 servers (all Windows 2008 R2 VMs) however when I try a "quick trace" to validate the install (or if I set-up a new live trace session from scratch) I get the following
error on 1 of the servers:
"Unable to start ETW session MMA-ETW-Livecapture-7d771e67-a7c8-4ead-8b79-3693220f9cba
Host Name: Localhost
Provider Microsoft-PEF-NDIS-PacketCapture does not work remotely. Please create a new session without it."
Can anyone explain why I'm getting an error regarding remote execution when I'm trying to run a trace session on localhost? As stated above I only get this error on 1 of the servers, the other 2 work fine.
