I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Basically, I have pop up in the right hand and left hand corners. Some recommending stuff, and some pertaining to whatever website I happen to be looking at. Now I'm getting a random white box that comes up occasionally and does not have an X to close. Help me please, thanks.

This week I noticed a red x on the bottom right hand corner of screen. When putting the mouse over it, a box came up that said "Your Computer has been infected with spyware" (looked like something official from microsoft, but I know it is a bad link). I already had Superantispyware downloaded on my computer, so I updated it, rebooted, and ran the program. Once it identified the infected files, I deleted them, rebooted. Still having issues though. Thanks for any help!!!

I've been reading a bunch of posts on this issue. I'm assuming that each computer is different. Here is what I am currently experiencing:

1) Every time I open up my internet browser using Firefox or Chrome a pop up ad related to the website appears on the bottom right hand corner of the browser. It sometimes shaped as an iPhone or a square box.

2) I also experience with redirects to other websites when I click a link on a website

I'll attach a pic, but it is hard to see. Just today, I heard a pop as I opened my Yoga. Seems the the bottom left hand corner of the screen has separated from its "backing" (not exactly sure how to describe this.) I did see a report of something that was vaguely familiar with a different machine and someone mentioned it could be a bad hinge. I can flex it all the way back to tablet mode. The screen flexes up the entire way (so I'm not doing that again). When I bend the opposite direction (toward closed) the aluminum casing separates from the small plastic tab with the rubber foot. I'm happy to attempt to purchase a hinge and change it, but if anyone can give a relatively definitive answer either way, that would be great. Oh, and, my warranty ended 42 days ago. So there's that. Also, where would I source this?  Thanks in advance, krm

Hi

I've seen this problem posted a few times before but it seems to be that every case is slightly different so any help would be greatly appreciated. I keep getting redirected to sites I have no intention of going to, alongside this, I am getting alot of ads pop up in the bottom right hand side of my browser. Both problems as i'm sure alot of people know are extremely annoying.

So far i've run both MalwareBytes and Spybot, but neither seem to solve the problem. My operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium Version 6.1 (Build) 7600) and i'm using Firefox 13.0.1.
Thankyou

Hi there @Bovey,Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you are seeing a dark patch on your display, in the lower right corner of the display. I am happy to help with this. Please post the operating system in use on your notebook. See the following, if you need help with that information. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? How large is the darker patch? Can you still see the image on the screen behind the darker section, or is it completely opaque? Was or is anything pressing on the display in that area? I would also suggest that you take a look through these pages, which may help, or in the bottom one help quantify the problem.Resolving Problems with Notebook Displays (Windows 7 and Windows 8)Resolving Problems with the Brightness of the DisplayDiagnosing a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) for DamageIf it appears to be a physical problem then I would suggest that you use the following http://www.hp.com/contacthp and create a case for your issue and contact HP. No issue.Hardware problem?Any advise is greatly appreciated.

A:Holding X240 by bottom left hand corner causes screen to black out and flicker

Hi, I had this problem several times as well. First time it happened was I picked up my x240 (with lid open) from the corner to the left of the trackpad, and the screen flickered and crashed. The x240 crashed the same way when I was using the x240 on my lap, while resting my left elbow to the left of the trackpad, supporting my chin reading the a document on the screen. I think the crash happens when there's pressure to the area to the left of the trackpad. It would be great if anyone else could replicate the same problem, and hopefully somone can find a fix!

Hi all. I posted in "Am I infected? What do I do?" and was told, after running a few programs I was instructed to, to come here and post a thread. I'm on Windows 7 64 bit. Recently (maybe 2-3 days ago) I've been having the Google Redirect problem.. I've had this problem on this computer before, but fixed it with system restore. This time around, I guess I waited too long and a day later I got hit with the hide all programs virus, but I fixed that with the unhide.exe from this site. Just yesterday, I started getting ads playing with just audio, and no programs open. These ads play maybe every 30 mins to an hour. Same goes for the ads in the right hand corner of Firefox, but this is constant. AVG has been giving me error messages of a trojan, from c:\Windows\System32\Services.exe, but only gives me an option to ignore and not remove the virus. Help!! I have a new (ish) laptop and everything has been fine until a couple of days ago when a red cross appeared on the speaker icon.  I've run the diagnostic tool by clicking on the icon but only my Bose wireless headphones appear in the list, and the tool is unable to resolve the probem with the speakers.  When I use the Bose wireless headphones, the red cross goes and the headphones work fine.  I've tried the Device Manager too to clear the red cross issue, but cannot find a way for it to help resolve the problem. The laptop doesn't have any sound from the speakers, nothing.  If I plug normal/ regular headphones into the jack, then the Bang & Olufsen message appears on the screen to notify that the headphones have been connected, but there is no sound from the headphones and the cross remains on the speaker icon. If I hover over the red cross then a message appears "no speakers or headphones are plugged in"

Hello @George73,  Before we go to the software part of this red x volume icon we will first have to check if your hardware is operating in the necessary parameters. Move the mouse pointer over the lower right side of the screen for the ?Charms? bar to open.Left click or tap on the ?Settings? feature you have in the charms bar. In the search box you are presented in the ?Settings? feature you need to write ?Device Manager?. After the search is finished you will need to left click or tap on the ?Device Manager? icon. If you are prompted by a window you will need to type in the administrator account and password to go further with the steps below. Double click (left click) on the ?Sound, video and game controllers? feature in the device manager window. In the expanded menu in the ?Sound, video and game controllers? feature look to see if you have there a sound card and if it is properly installed. Note: if it is not properly installed you will see a yellow sign next to it or you won?t have a sound card present in that menu. If you have a yellow sign next to the sound card you will need to left click on that icon. Left click on the ?Properties? feature after you clicked on the sound card. Left click or tap on the ?General? tab you have in the properties window. You will have a box under the ?Device status? feature and you will see in that box what exactly the issue with... Greetings, I have a question.

Today on May 31st, I noticed on my Windows 7 64-bit computer than a new icon was present on desktop's screen, along with Network, PC Issues, and Volume Icons. Here is a screenshot of the new Icon, circled in Red:
Is it necessary that I update my computer, or can I remain with my Windows 7? My mother has Windows 8 and it is extremely complicated for both her and I to use, and I am quite comfortable with my 7. Will it automatically be applied the next time I shut down my computer? A little clarification on this new icon would be greatly appreciated.

A:"Get Windows 10" Icon in the bottom-right corner

Hello Goji73,

That is related to a recent update, it will not automatically update you to windows 10.

There is another discussion related to this here,

Remove "Get Windows 10" from taskbar

Or see the following tutorial for removal instructions - Get Windows 10 Icon - Remove from Taskbar in Windows 7 and 8.1 - Windows 10 Forums

Hi

I have recently started using windows 8.1 at work.

On my personal laptop, also 8.1, the apps all have crosses in the top right corner, which appear if I hover the mouse in that area.

However, they are not present on my work desktop computer. The only way I can find to close them is by using alt-F4, which is OK, but not what I want to use.

I realise this is a pretty trivial issue, but does anyone have any suggestions?

Cheers

A:No cross in top right corner of apps

Hi

If you open up a command prompt (right click the Windows Start button and select Command Prompt).
You will see the version number on the first line of information, is the version number higher on your personal laptop?
If so, try updating your Windows 8.1 at work as it may not have the feature installed.
Not sure if that feature came after in an optional update to 8.1.

the same things happens to me, random popups in the bottom right corner in IE displaying advertisements, also random redirects happen.

seems to be popular malware...

i've ran AVG scan and spybot scans but none caught it or removed it, also ran ad-aware.

Hi all,

While using web browsers (Firefox and Chrome) there is a pop up in the right hand corner of many web pages. Also, while clicking on links in legit pages (i.e. nytimes.com) get redirected to different sits with brief screen that says document has moved and being redirected. I suspect this is malware but am unsure how to approach it. Have run the virus scanner AVG and have tried rkill and mbam in safemode, but the problem persists.

I have noticed a thread (last updated 30 May) that seems to handle the same problem, but unsure if I should be walked through steps or just try them myself. Please advise on how to proceed.

Thank you.

Pretty much as title except it works in 32 bit but not in 64 bit windows 8.1 update fresh install. Have checked the apps notification switches in PC settings and they are all on. The one I miss is the email notification telling me I have mail which appears to be enabled but test messages from gmail dont trigger notifcations in right hand top side of desktop.

One notification that does work is when I insert a USB it asks what to do with removable devices but thats the only notification I get. Any fixes?

A:Notifications not showing from Apps in right hand corner

Found the answer. Particularly for Metro Mail, notifications in the accounts section of mail was set to notify from favorites! I have no favorites yet so I have set it to all mail and now desktop notifications for mail show. I dont remember that setting in the 32 bit flavour but that was upgraded from windows 8. The 64 bit was a fresh install!

when using my computer the mouse will randomly jump to the right hand corner of the display. It will also open up windows unexpectedly like the control panel or notification panel. I notices when this is happening there are circles like little bubbles that show up on the right hand side of the display. This is very frustrating and has been happening for a long time. I have seen other people having this same problem but I really did not see a resolution. Please help me with this problem. If I need to bring the laptop in and I not have a problem with that. I submitted this request on 4/19/17, and I received the initial email that said they would contact me in another email which I never received. Looking at the status on your website is says this request has been "Completed - Awaiting closure". Since then I have sent other request and I still have gotten nothing.

You don't say what model it is.  If it is a touchscreen, I would assume the digitizer (screen) is failing.

Okay, I've tried everything. I've tried chkdsk. I've tried reinstalling. I've done everything I could think to do. I think my hard drive may be bad. But, I'm not sure. I was getting BSODs that said Stop 000000x08 and the affected program was iaStor.sys Although I was unable to delete it. I can't even start in safe mode. Whenever I try to start at all it takes me to a BSOD and immediately shuts off. I can't even read what it says. I've been driving myself crazy over this. Plus, I've reinstalled 2 os because that's what I've read to do. I just don't know what to do. I think it may be my hard drive but have no idea how to check. Thanks for any help. My system is a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Windows Vista Basic Home.

In order to test the hard drive you can run one of the diagnostic programs below. The files, in ISO format, will need to be burned to a CD using a program that can burn CD image files.

Hitachi Drive Fitness Test
Downloads
Western Digital
WD Support / Downloads / Select Product
(choose your product and select Data Lifeguard Diagnostic)
Seagate
| Seagate

Could also be a drive controller/motherboard issue but run the diagnostics first.

Hi guys,i have a problem, i was working on this PC that had a problem. the problem was - when it is turned on,nothing comes on.There is a black screen and blinking cursor (looks like an under-score) [blink]_[blink]that just keeps blinking.Okay this is what I did. I thought the hard disk was damaged, I get a brand new hard disk drive (SATA) and inserted in, and start installing the System Restore Discs and Operating system CD, it is a HP Compaq Desktop dx2200 MT.Every thing goes perfectly well, it starts up fine, XP is installed up and running, all other software are being installed. It all looks great up until I slave the original hard disc in order to copy back the users files back onto the new disc. By the way all copying goes well until the PC suddenly freezes, it doesn't respond to all the keyboard keys or the mouse whatsoever, even pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL in an attempt to open the the Task Manager doesn't work. I turn of the PC by pressing the power button. Remember there are 2 hard discs connected now in the PC, Master and Slave, both are SATA.When I turn it on, the blinking starts again.I try removing the original hard drive (the one I slaved) and still it doesn't boot correctly. I try booting either of them alone, still nothing,I don't think it is a virus problem, because I installed Sophos and had it updated straight after the OS, and if I had connected the slave hard disk it could had detected it.these are things I have tried.1.Removed RAM card and p... It's a Compaq system...did you check the Compaq support site?

From what I see, HP system have proprietary boot mechanisms...which isn't necessarily good for what may be the problem.

My guess is that the MBR is damaged, Black Screen (fixmbr) - http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;314503. Using the fixmbr command from the XP Recovery Console of a MS Genuine XP CD...is the normal cure.

But you have a Compaq and I don't know if that command would be effective with your system.

Yesterday I started to notice an advertisement appearing on the lower-right hand corner of my browser (IE), at first I thought it was just the site I was on, but today I noticed it appearing on sites that I often frequent without issues.

http://i49.tinypic.com/24yxxef.png

I took a print screen to explain it. The advertisements change so its not always that one in particular soemtimes its cursor mania, vertizon, watch this etc. But it's always in that same square box on the same side and if i x it out it dissappears but comes back on certain sites.

I use Windows Vista, on HP Pavillion DV4 laptop. I ran a virus scan and foudn no problems, checked IEs addons to see if anything got in there, also checked my programs to see if I didnt recognize something new but everything is as always which leads me to believe it may be a virus of some sort.
