Video Card, Drivers, Nvidia? Help?

Q: Video Card, Drivers, Nvidia? Help?

im usually used to these sort of things like second nature, but i have NO CLUE at all in the world of graphics/video cards chips or whatever. ive spent the last 3 hours doing nothing at all trying to understand this...

My computer has an NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 model64 pro video board. i have no clue at all what this is, but i know its what i have. The problem is that i want to play the Sims 2 (and other games later on), but the graphics are all slow and choppy. going through troubleshooting, it says i need a new 'driver', or, the latest driver provided by the video card chipset.

i have no idea what to get, how to get them, in what order and would really like it if someone could tell me what i should do (in simple terms), or just explain it all to me.

thanks to anyone who helps.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I've stumbled upon a slight mystery here,my video card has two sets of drivers, one from MSI and one from nvidia. Do you know which I'm supposed to use?

Using the MSI updater it says "current driver: not installed" it also says that the latest driver available is 8.17.12.5896.

I currently have installed Nvidia driver 285.79.

I just don't know why there are two drivers...

Any help appreciated, thanks.

A:Video card drivers - MSI or Nvidia?

there is no difference between The two drivers ,the drivers in both MSI site and Nvidia site are the same .but through The Nvidia official site you can download the latest drivers ,which it is not available until now in MSI offical site , hope this help

I'm still learning.....

When I log on computer, screen shows "The ATI control panel
failed to initialize because no ATI driver is installed, or ATI driver is not working properly. The ATI control panel will now exit".

I know that has been discussed here, but this is my question: Isn't ATI a video card? I have Nvidea GeForce FX5500 in my system (XP, 1 G Ram)) yet this error message always appears. When I pull up display adaptors in device mgr, my Nvidea shows, nothing for ATI does.

So, do I need both? I just updated drivers on my video card and direct x due to a game freezing. That didn't help. Then I remembered this error message and wondered if it had something to do with it.

Thanks alot for any help.

A:Do I need Ati drivers if I have Nvidia video card?

You don't need ATI drivers-they are for AMD/ATI graphics cards- uninstall them.
Use Driver Sweeper here:
http://downloads.guru3d.com/Guru3D---Driver-Sweeper-(Setup)-download-1655.html
in preference to "Add and Remove Programs" in the control panel. I would uninstall both the ATI and nVidia drivers and re-install the applicable nVidia driver to ensure you get an uncorrupted install.
The DirectX update should be fine.

You should only have the graphics driver from your graphics card vendor ( the manufacturer) i.e. Gigabyte, MSI, XFX, EVGA etc. If the card is an OEM product then download from here http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

FX5xxx branded cards (not OEM) may not run with the nVidia Forceware drivers so make sure you use the manufacturers recommended download if available.

Hey All,

I have an xps 1710 and recently had issues with my video card and nvidia geforce go 7950 gtx. Dell came out with a new card. But no matter what they did and Im now waiting for them to get back to me we couldnt install the drivers. The following msg kept on coming up

"There was a problem with the device, An error occured during the installation of the device"

This morning when I turned on my laptop I got a blue screen with the following statement:

"Driver unloaded without cancelling pending operation, your system has been shut down.

I was able to restart my system.

Any ideas???

A:Cant install nvidia drivers on new video card

I would suggest you run DriverCleaner Pro ( http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745 ) and remove all traces of the bad NVidia installs and then defragment and then reboot and then run sfc /scannow.

After that, you can try a fresh NVidia install.

Hello everyone. I updated my drivers with 191.07. All went well and integrated perfectly except for one anomoly :- I like fairly big icons and text, and I always use a res. of 960 x 600 which is perfect for me. After installing these new drivers, I can't get 960 x 600 any longer. I can get down to 1024 x 768 which (for me) is too small. Below that is 800 x 600 which is a wee bit too large.

Does anyone know why I can't get 960? I've been all over Nvidia's website, but they craftily don't give "conact us" details. I wiped it out and did it again but the result was the same. I have a Forsa (Nvidia) GeForce 6600 card which has 256 megs of RAM. I have 1 GB of RAM and a P4 2.4 GHz CPU.

Many thanks

A:Solved: Nvidia video drivers 191.07

In the nVidia Control Panel, navigate to the Change Resolution tab under the Display Section. Here, click on the Add Resolutions button and, on the page that pops up, click Create Custom Resolution.

Set your required resolution, scan rate and color depth.

The little arrow at the bottom left will allow you to set scan timings if you require custom settings for those too. Just leave it on auto and click the Test button to test your custom resolution. If you are happy with it, you can save it as a regular resolution selection.

Try it and see if that helps.

Let us know.

Hey all, so I just tweaked my 7600GS as I was having problems while gaming. And ever since then whenever I open a video file (mpg, avi, wmv, divx) it plays with very dark video. Almost like looking at an LCD monitor from almost directly above. I can tweak the brightness of Divx files to play brighter but all other movie files remain the same. I've tried all the best players (vlc, mplayclassic, wmc) with the same effect.

Whoops sorry maybe wrong thread. Feel free to move to Audio and Video.

My Vista settings were: NVIDIA Quadro NVS (Microsoft Corporation - XXDM)

Ok, so recently I have been having a serious problem with my video card and/or the drivers. It seems to happen most when flash is being used in a web page.

I've re-installed both flash and chrome (my browser of choice) and rolled back/re-installed my video drivers.

When it freezes, the whole screen stops, the sound gets drawn out, does that for about 20-50 seconds, then goes back to normal, although sometimes the video (eg a movie) has to be restarted.

I am really tired of this happening, because since most web-ads use flash, a crash can happen anytime.

Thanks in advance!

Hello there! I posted on these forums with an issue that I had about a year ago and you guys were a great help, so I thought I would post here again!

I build myself a gaming computer back in March, and have had zero issues with it until a couple of days ago.
I bought Dead Space 3 and Resident Evil 6, and they're both having the same issue! (But no other games)
When Dead Space 3 starts up, it goes to the loading screen, then both of my screens go black for a couple of seconds, come back on, and then do the same thing once more. The whole time I can still hear audio. Then the game just completely crashes and I have an error in the bottom right of my screen that reads "Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 'xxx.xx' stopped responding and has successfully recovered."
As for Resident Evil 6, the game loads just fine and I can play it. But as soon as it gets to the first cut scene in the game, it does the exact same thing! I can press the escape key to skip the cut scene, but where's the fun in that?

I've included a dxdiag file for my computer specs. And I'm running the most recent drivers for my card as well. You can also always view my profile and check out my system specs there.
If any more information is needed, I would be more than happy to give it to you guys!

Thank you in advance! I really hope that someone can help me out on this!

Hi,  I am in the process of re-installing 64bit win7 on my dv6-2173cl.  I see HP has two drivers for the my model:1) Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD Driver2) NVIDIA GeForce Video/Graphics Driver I have NVIDIA graphics card in this laptop.  I installed NVIDIA driver.   Question: - Do I need to install  Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD Driver as well? - Is the  Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD Driver for the integrated graphics card for some select dv6-2173cl variants and therefore does not apply to meOR  - Does this driver improve the graphics performance of the Intel chip itself (whatever that could be) and hence I DO need to install it?   I looked at the description, but HP does not state very explicitly the cases when to install this driver.   Any ideas? Thanks,

A:How many drivers for NVidia Graphics Card - HP dv6-2173cl

Hi: HP puts all of the available drivers for the entire model series on each specific model's support page. So you do not need to, and should not install the Intel graphics adapter. That would be for dv6-21xx notebooks that come with the onboard Intel HD graphics adapter.

Hello, I hope someone can help us.

We recently upgraded to windows 7 and we're trying to download and install the newest drivers for the EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 video card we have installed. However, updating through Windows doesn't work and despite taking, from what I've read everywhere, the proper steps to uninstall the old drivers the right way, as soon as windows loads after the restart it automatically installs a set of
old drivers (8.17.11.9621) without letting me choose which drivers I'd like to install (the latest ones seem to be 257.21). Is there anyway someone can PLEASE list the exact steps ,in order,
the procedure for properly updating NVIDIA Video drivers in Windows7. And yes... I've been searching on this site for hours & have not been able to find an answer to my problem. I've done everthing I've found that's been suggested, i.e. Disconnecting from the internet, turning off virus scans, restarting in Safe Mode...nothing works. A:Solved: Updating NVIDIA Video Drivers in Windows7 is impossible

You need to uninstall the drivers using Programs & Features, but on reboot Windows will install drivers for it from Windows Update if the computer is connected to the internet or it will install older drivers that are included with Windows.

In almost all cases you can simply install the new drivers over top of the old drivers without any issues. Run the new NVidia installer and it will install the drivers. 99% of people do not uninstall the older drivers prior to installing the new drivers.

I'm looking at the latest video cards that are out, i.e ATI X1600XT/X1800XT/X1900XT and Nvidia 7600GT/7900GT. I'll have an X2 and a ASUS SLI/Crossfire mobo for upgradability. I'm not a big gamer and want image quality so am leaning towards ATI. I'm into video/photo editing and HTPC/Multimedia, but want the card to last 3 or more years into Vista and what apps in my fields of interest become available for it. I know DX10 is coming and who knows what versions after that in this 3 year time span.

Should I get the cheap X1600XT/7600GT and wait till next year when Vista/DX10 are in service and the video cards are up to date to buy an expensive card if even then? I'm leaning this way but want varied opinion.

Will these cards not be able to take advantage of DX10+ when it comes? Will they run DX10+ at all or do I never apply that update?

My biggest goal is high quality/accurate image. But supporting all the Vista visual goodies and non-game apps to come is important. So which is it ATI or Nvidia? And which card for the winner?
Thanks

Hey everyone. I was trying to update my Nvidia graphics card driver and other software using Windows Update but it keeps failing. I used the Windows Update Troubleshooter and it made some changes but it did not fix my problem. I was trying to fix the problem using the Microsoft help site but I was getting confused so I am going to need additional one-on-one help. So anyway, these are the two updates I am trying to install:

NVIDIA driver update for NVIDIA GeForce 9100

nVidia - Other hardware - NVIDIA GeForce 9100

I keep getting the following message from Windows Update:

Some updates didn't finish downloading. We'll keep trying.

Error code: (0x80246007)

I have been having problems installing these updates for several days now. I believe it was telling me before that only part of the update got downloaded or a file was corrupted or something but my memory isn't too great right now. That was before I ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter tool.

So anyway, I'd greatly appreciate some help in updating my drivers.

Continuing, I'm finally booted into Windows, and I'm assuming that I am running the basic Windows VGA Drivers. I ran Windows Update and attempted to install the drivers for my 7950 GX2, reboot, 'Windows is Starting', BSOD. Boot into Safe Mode, uninstall drivers, install drivers from Nvidia, reboot, BSOD.

It seems that no matter what set of drivers I install, after I reboot, the computer will say 'Starting Windows' and then will get the BSOD. The code is 116, and the associated file is nvlddmkm.sys.

I know that during the install process that I deleted the nvlddmkm.sys file fr... Read more

Hello,
(Sorry for my English)

I recently purchased a Dell Latitude E6530 Laptop. Unfortunately, I have a problem with the Driver for the TouchPad. And this problem is present whether it is an installation via Windows Update (Windows 10) or manually with the driver provided on the Dell site (Input_Driver_YXX3D_WN32_10.1207.101.109_A03.exe).
Once installed, every time I turn on my PC, a box is directly displayed on my desktop with the following message:
"You must have administrator rights to delete this file." I have the choice between: "Confirm", "Ignore" or "Cancel" with a checkbox "Do this for all elements".
I have that every time I start, no matter what I do. I do not understand why because I do not even request the deletion of these files. Not only to bother me every time I start the PC, it is impossible after me to run the scroll with the middle click.
Here is the list of all the files he wants me to delete:
- Apoint.dll
- Apinfo.dll
- ApInst.dll
- ApMouCpl.dll
- ApMsgFwd.exe
- ApntEx.exe
- ApSearch.dll
- ApTaskLink.xml
- Dell.Framework.Library.dll
- DellTouchpad.exe
- DellPad.exe
- Elprop.dll
- EzAuto.dll
- hidfind.exe
- HidMonitorSvc.exe
- Uninstop.exe
- Data folder
The most disturbing thing about this is that on my other laptop Dell Latitude E6510, I have no worries, it is directly installed via Windows Update and it works directly. Why do I have problems with the E6530 and not the E6510?
What should I do to remedy thi... Read more

Hi.

I have been working on a Dell Inspiron 531S and am unable to get the video, and now audio, drivers loaded and working correctly. Here?s the deal:

According to the Dell tag# info online, this cpu uses either the onboard Nvidia nforce 6150SE n430 video card or an ATI 1300 Pro. There is no external video card so the Nvidia should be right. This is confirmed by programs like HWinfo32. However, someone did install ATI catalyst software at some earlier point.

At first, only the video card driver was not loaded properly and so Vista (Home Premium 32-bit) was in VGA-compatible mode. I tried to load NVIDIA Nforce 258.96 WHQL drivers for Vista 32-bit, which completed without errors. Upon rebooting, though, I could see in Device Manager that the drivers didn?t take. I have also tried Dell?s recommended R166208 (an executable that loads Nvidia?s MCP61 ver.A01 drivers) and no matter what I do, Device Manager says I now have an ?unknown device? or a VGA-compatible display adapter. Unloading and reinstalling did not help. I noticed SP2 was not loaded so tried installing it to see if that would help. It loaded no problem, but then I saw (as another update) a Realtek audio driver update. I let it load and now have no audio.

I have tried both Dell?s recommended Realtek driver (R180772, which is for the ALC888 HD audio device and loads Realtek?s R1.85 audio drivers) and a newer R2.51 version for Vista that I got from Realtek?s site. Both install ... Read more

Hi, I like to believe I'm kinda tech savvy. I'll start by saying that my old 19" monitor went out and now I have a 32" dell monitor I'm using. Every time I update my video drivers to most current and then restart comp for them to take full effect, it will go through the green microsoft loading bar and then screen goes to self test, Yet there is still a windows sound and I can even log in, but no video for these parts. I can go into safe mode perfectly fine. I can even uninstall my video drivers and I'm capable of starting normal mode fine. Only when I update drivers do I have this problem. I have done alot of troubleshooting to try to get this monitor to work with my computer, searched on several different search engines for a solution to this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm seeing several error messages in the event log and I'm unsure which one is the actual crashing of the comp, so I'll be back to post that info. Thanks for your time and help!

I have a Asus P5B motherboard with the nVidia 650i chipset.

Anyone know if the mobo/chipset is compatible with ATI Video cards?

A:nVidia Chipset and ATI Video Card

1. please post in the correct forum - audio/video
2. video cards generally are not dependant on mobo chipsets. (there are a few exceptions.) If you have a slot, you should be able to use it with the right drivers. If you have integrated video you will need to turn it off in BIOS.

I accidentally changed something and I don't know what! I can't get the color to be 256 bit, only 16. I tried downloading the latest driver but it didn't work. When I try to change it to 256 color it says to check the display in the device manager, and that says that everything is working. Can you give me any help??? Thanks

A:nvidia geforce 256 video card

Your going to need to get the drivers reinstalled. If you still have the installation cd run it and load the drivers from there. If not download the latest from http://www.nvidia.com.
Last ditch, go to device manager, remove the card, reboot and reinstall.

A simple question guys and gals. I have an infinity for dell dimension 8100 and optiplex gx 400 towers. The boards are similar, vintage from the late 90's. They both use APG NVIDIA brand video cards, typicaly VGA only, although I have seen Svideo, and DVI, and even ANALOG line out connectors. How do I identify the model number of a given card to determine whether it would work in these boards. The NVIDIA part # eludes me. There are any printed #s on the card, both on labels, and in white ink. I do not see any I recognize as in ATI, GE FORCE, ect. I have several APG video cards in my pile and I need to identify them. Swapping cards is a slow way to test. In addition this process produces eveything from NO video to incorrect colors, to noise bars. Any info welcome. A list of compatible cards from N or others would also be welcome.

A:Nvidia branded APG video card

The best thing I can think is trying to look-up the serial number if there are still stickers on any of them, otherwise you'll have no choice but to swap them in your PC one at a time and see if you can ID them with GPU-Z.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

i want to know which video card is better suited: nvidia or ati.
-what are pros and cons of both?
-how does the numbering system of both work?

about the set up:
-dual monitor set up
-i want to play new games but old games (20 years old) as well.
-i do not want to overclock, and just use 1 video card.
-reliability is more important than performance, the video card should be stable and be used for a long time.

A:nvidia or ati video card best suited

if it is a intel chipset m/b then nvidia

amd then ati

the higher the number is the newer version of the card

video cards and psu upgrades go hand in hand

Hi, I'm havign some trouble with my video card. It's a 7900 GT. So my issue is that a few weeks ago I installed new drivers for it and I started having problems with the graphics of all my games. Certain pixels would stretch to random places, shadows would become purple, etc. Well nvidia came out with a new driver said to fix this problem but it seems to me like it has done nothing. So I'm assuming either these drivers are messed up or I did something I didnt realise. Any ideas on what's up, what i can do to fix it, and is anyone else having these problems?
Thanks

Hi folks,

Bad storm came through this morning. Afterwards when booting pc all i've gotten was 800 x 600 resolution with 16 color.

I've downloaded and updated the drivers for monitor and the Nvidia GEForce4 MX 440 video card.

No help.

Each time I try to change the display it forces me to restart pc to allow change. Previously I could always see the display change and choose whether I wanted to keep it or not without a restart. When I accept change and restart, computer hangs and monitor light goes to standby. Only way to recover is a ctr-alt-del and enter. PC restarts but comes right back to the huge 800 x 600 resolution.

Machine is also very, very slow in everything it does since this morning. I tried moving the monitor to the onboard video and rebooting, but then it never came on ... stayed in standby mode.

Is it possible for me to disable the video card while still plugged into it and be able to revert back to the onboard video just to test the card?

I haven't had a lot of experience with monitors and video cards. I'm not even positive they are the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Nvidia Video Card Fried?

G'day shesun4givn2...wow that is certainly a name!
I would suggest removing the power from the machine, then removing the video card and plugging the monitor back into the onboard video socket.
On re-power up it will (with luck) realise the onboard video is required and load the driver for it and produce an image.
You shouldn't need drivers at this point, hopefully you won't need to enter BIOS and make any changes.
See if you can get that up.
(It sounds like the video card may be crippled)
Lightning does not need to strike the prower lines to kill a machine, it is always worthwhile unplugging or fitting a surge protection device. (these work sometimes)
Cheers, qldit.
