Malware Cannot find http://(chinese characters) Make sure the path or internet address is correct

Q: Malware Cannot find http://(chinese characters) Make sure the path or internet address is correct

There are several post like mine out there already but none of the solutions have worked for me. When I am connected to my company LAN I can go to Google (my home page) in IE7 on an XP Corp SP3 Laptop. about every other time I click on a link I get the following error box.Whether I click ok on the error or click the X, a new browser window opens maximises and opens my home page. When I am on my home network the behavior is different, (probably because my home firewall is not blocking the site) When i click any link from my home page there is no error box but my click gets hijacked to an advertisement or fake virus protection sites. Here is what I have tried:1. Full scan and immunize with Spybot S & D (found a lot of cookies etc. didn't fix this issue)2. Full scan with Symantec Endpoint protection (finds trojans once a day, probably friends of this issue)3. Full scan with Malwarebytes (fixed other issues it found but not this one)4. Purchased full version of Spyware Dr (found and fixed 4 issues but not this one)5. Disabled all browser plugins, including those that run without permission. (did not impact the issue)6. Searched for any files or registry enties with "hpprintspool" in them (there were none)7. Installed HijackThis and created the following log -Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 9:43:09 AM, on 11/12/2009Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16735)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\csrss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\Smc.exeC:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\S24EvMon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Cisco\Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client\vpnagent.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSvcHst.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\SCardSvr.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exeC:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor\BDT\BDTUpdateService.exeC:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\VPN Client\cvpnd.exeC:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\EvtEng.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\bin\ZCfgSvc.exeC:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\ifrmewrk.exeC:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD DX\PDVDDXSrv.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\RunDLL32.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exeC:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exeC:\Program Files\Wave Systems Corp\Services Manager\Docmgr\bin\WavXDocMgr.exeC:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Logitech\LComMgr\LVComSX.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Logitech\LComMgr\Communications_Helper.exeC:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exeC:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor\pctsTray.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exeC:\Program Files\LClock\lclock.exeC:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\wcescomm.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\MDM.EXEC:\Program Files\Starfield\Desktop Notifier\wben.exeC:\Program Files\WebEx\Productivity Tools\PTIM.exeC:\Program Files\Spybot - Preferred Solution: Malware Cannot find http://(chinese characters) Make sure the path or internet address is correct

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Malware Cannot find http://(chinese characters) Make sure the path or internet address is correct

Hi jgardner,Welcome to BC HijackThis forum. I am farbar. I am going to assist you with your problem. One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.A backdoor Trojan can allow an attacker to gain control of the system, log keystrokes, steal passwords, access personal data, send malevolent outgoing traffic, and close the security warning messages displayed by some anti-virus and security programs.I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.Though the trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the Operating System. Please read these for more information:How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud? When Should I Format, How Should I ReinstallWe can still try to clean this machine but I might not be able to make sure it will be 100% secure afterward. Please tell me if you want to go on with cleaning.

I had someone tell me they kept getting the message:Cannot find 'http://?xi ??...' make sure the path or internet address is correctEvery time they'd start Internet Explorer 7. I scanned with Malware bytes, but it didn't fix the problem. I then ran Autoruns. The user told me that this started happening yesterday some time. I went to the internet explorer section of Autoruns, and found that an add-ingoogletoolbar.dll had a modified date of yesterday afternoon. It also oddly didn't have the Google, Inc. tag under the software vendor column. So I un-installed the Google Toolbar, and deleted the Program Files directory, and the error message stopped coming up.I don't know if it was Malware trying to replace the google toolbar, or if the google toolbar itself was broken, but anyway that's what fixed my issue. I know Christo82 posted about this problem below, but I could not reply.PatEDIT: MovedPosting a fix not a problem

The window saying "cannot find http://<random charcters>make sure the path or internet address is correct" appears constantly and when i hit OK or 'X', it opens a new IE7 window. This has only started happening in the last few days. I have run a full scan on avg(it found 2 trojans and tracking cookies, which i deleted). I have also run scans on Malwarebytes(many infected files that I deleted) and Superantispyware(no threats). I thought these scans had solved my problems but they appeared again last night. hopefully someone can help me. thanks

"cannot find http://<random characters>make sure the path or internet address is correct"

Symptoms:
1) Internet Explorer will often not open if it or a shortcut are double clicked.
It is seen in task manager, trying again results in another iexplore.exe showing up in task manager.
Ending task on it and retrying a few times will usually get it to open.

2) If it does open, clicking a link will usually result in the "cannot find http://<random characters>" error.
Manually typing links in the address bar works fine.
I'm pretty sure I had the "cannot find" error in safemode as well, I can check that again if anyone needs me to.

I'm using Chrome as my primary browser now, it seems to work fine, though now and then I get the "chrome has crashed" error, unsure if this is the result of some sort of malware/hijacker as well, or running the beta version of Chrome with a lot of tabs open.

Company laptop, has Trend MICRO on it, though it finds nothing. The windows firewall is disabled by group policy, and the Trend Micro firewall is used instead.
Installed Avast!, it found a few things in the temp internet folder and cleaned them, still have issues.
the items were:
Threat:HTML:Framer-inf [Trj]
Threat:JS:Downloader-AIS [Trj]
Threat:JS:Pdfka-AUQ [Expl]
Threat:HTML:Iframe-inf

When I first ran gmer, it closed without warning or error after about 4 or 5 minutes... tried it again and ran fully.

A:IE "Cannot find <garbage characters>. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct." error. Cannot use IE...

After doing some more research, I fixed the problem. It was really bizarre, whenever I launched IE I would get a message box with the following error: "Cannot find 'http://<garbage characters>'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct." After clicking [OK] it would then try to open up IE again, basically causing an infinite loop of errors.Firefox would not run either. As soon as I launched Firefox it would crash immediately.I tried removing and reinstalling Firefox and also tried upgrading to IE8. Nothing worked. The IE8 install gt hung trying to download. To make a long story short, I found this thread via google:http://www.d-a-l.com/help/general-internet...-name-make.htmlI restored my Internet options from Control Panel and everything works again. It was pretty brutal, I think the Internet options were set set to another language and that caused all of the problems. Malwarebytes and Adaware did not detect any problems.Hopefully, this will help someone else with the same problem.-Zork

Check your startup list and see if you have hpprintspool.exe listed. If so, most fixes are to remove that entry from start up. Use google for hpprintspool.exe to find the fix that most closely duplicates your situation. If hpprintspool.exe, not in startup, please let us know and hopefully someone else has another idea. The two times I've heard of this it has been the .exe I mention.

Hey,

Have any of y'all seen a box that pops up with a blue border, at the top there is a penguin with 4 Chinese characters beside it. Below is another with QQ: then a box with 10000 in it, two or three more characters, another box with 10000 in it, then a small box with the image of a person in it, followed by 8 more characters.
Then below that is a larger box full of Chinese characters and some numbers. After this pops up, things deteriorate rapidly. The first thing we noticed was that the Task manager would not open. Others had other problems, eventually not being able to work at all.

I'm not asking for a solution. We have been looking High and Low, and we know how to use the tools available. I just want to know if anyone out there has come across this and if anyone knows where it came from?

Thanks!!

Hello,
during exploration of various app creators for android I came across beta.appinventor.mit.edu. I'm still using IE8(sadly no more support) but have google chrome as a second option.
I'm not sure when what happened exactly. I did a defrag, cleaned some old files. I tried to open beta.appinventor in chrome and it displays chinese characters across the screen.
Even when I log-in to my modem (portable wifi router) from chrome it displays chinese characters. Very few sites display adds in chinese the rest of the site would be ok. Also if I open a tab in incognito mode the entire window is filled with chinese characters.
Now the chinese characters are not displayed by opening 'normal' url's.
The puzzling thing is, the speed of the system is good. IE8 has no problems. I can open websites in chrome, no problem.
I tried ccleaner, norton scan, dr.web scan, uninstalled chrome, re installed, several times, knowing I will not be able to remove all chrome instances in the reg, trying it again with revo uninstaller and re install.
Same problem chinese characters. I don't know what else to do.

A:possible malware in google chrome, displaying Chinese characters

hi everybody,
sorry for my own confusion. I kept on digging and came across a forum. It was suggested to change the encoding in chrome to autodetect, While my chrome showed unicode. Anyway I tried, the result no chinese characters anymore. Allways thought unicode was more or less universal, that would have been the last thing for me to suspect.
Strange was that a new install to my laptop which never had chrome on it came with unicode already in place. Had to change that, too.
Long story, happy ending, problem solved.

Hello everyone
A few days ago Windows did some updates automatically. The "Microsoft.Net framework 3.5 family update x64" failed and ever since whenever I start the computer the windows installer window appears and that tells me that the feature I am trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. It asks me to enter an alternative path to a folder containing the installation but I do not have any of these discs such as "TrayApp", "Market Research, "Status", etc. Also it stops me from accessing all the Office 2007 programmes.
I have tried the Microsoft Fix it center without any luck. Any suggestions please?

IF this happened after a software update for windows, try rolling back your system to a previous state.
Open up the start menu, then all programs then accessories then system tools, then open up system restore, go through the wizard and restore your computer to a previous state( before the update failed)...
This should work in terms of getting rid of the problems you disclosed..
good luck!!

I just received delivery of a mini camera/voice recorder that has an instruction sheet in both Chinese characters and also broken English...very broken! In fact, it's basically incomprehensible. Is there anyone viewing this that may be able to help me translate the instructions, because I can't get the recorder to work yet. The colors of the light indicators on the recorder and the instructions don't even match. All that I can observe is red and blue, while the instructions refer to a yellow and green in addition to red.....go figure. And yes, I've contacted the seller about this but they haven't responded yet. I strongly suspect they don't have a clue either...they're just merchandisers, not tech folks.

I've attached a copy of of the so-called English instructions, but if you can read Chinese please contact me and I'll send you or post the instructions written in Chinese characters.

Thanks for your interest.

Yesterday, I did a scan of my network with WireShark 3.2.6  Scan was done on my hardwired Ethernet connection. I am somewhat new to advanced wireshark and I do not know everything there is to know but I am in the process of learning.
While looking at the results of a short scan I saw some unsettling IP Addresses that were appearing on my network. I do a lot of schoolwork online and I need to setup Windows 10 Professional's Firewall to block this IP Address or possibly even a range of
IP Addresses.
Problem is: When I do searches with keywords such as "Blocking an IP Address with Windows 10 firewall" I end up receiving results that are intended for businesses or results that are meant for a Windows Server.
I need an understandable solution to this potential security problem. One that I can use Microsoft tools to fix and not some 3rd party app if possible.
My system:
Windows 10 Professional build 18363.1016
MS Office 365 Enterprise Edition subscription through my school
Dell Optiplex 790 with the latest BIOS update

Hi. I'm wondering how to enable the display of Chinese characters on a Windows XP Home desktop. I've heard you had to go to the Regional and Language Options to install the East Asian language files, but on my laptop, which is a Windows XP MCE 2005, I never had that option checked yet I can see Chinese characters. On the desktop, they display as squares with numbers inside. Not sure why it would be different, since they're set up the same. It can't be browser-related as it occurs in both Firefox and IE. It's not a significant issue, but wondered why it was happening. Thanks,

Brandon

Hi everyone!

After unfortunately having my Macbook Pro stolen, I have had to invest in a cheap little netbook that is still running Windows XP.

Firstly
- Can I even upgrade my netbook without it being really slow/crashing all the time to the latest version of Windows and would I have to pay (yes, I am that out of touch with computers I do not know).
- MORE IMPORTANTLY: at the moment Chinese characters (Hanyu traditional/simplified) are showing up as blocks on my screen. What can I do to see the characters properly?

I am currently learning Mandarin and it would be a lot more helpful if my netbook could display the characters, instead of having to rely on my iPhone for the majority of my learning.

Is there any update/program I can use that will allow me to do this?

System Info (from Control Panel:
- HP, Compaq
- Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002, SP3
- Intel Atom CPU 1.60GHz
- 798MHz, 0.99 GB of RAM

I am not too concerned about getting it updated, mainly just being able to see Chinese Characters.

Thanks very much in advance and apologies if I have posted this in the wrong place,
CJoQ

Hello,See if this link is of any help: http://mandarin.about.com/od/writingmandarin/ss/setupxp.htm. Arrow through all 5 pages.Regarding Updating:Most netbooks support 2 GB of RAM but come with 1 GB installed. Adding an additional 1 GB of memory would improve the netbook speed. I'm not sure if your netbook would support Windows 7 Starter Edition; however, it's been demonstrated that WinXP runs faster on a given netbook then Win 7 Starter does.

Hi Zaffy. I don't see a log from the Gmer rootkit scanner. Did you have trouble with that?

I'd like to try to get a more detailed log from GMER rootkit scanner.

Let's try this version of gmer.

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop. Double click the exe file.
If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan.
In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Ensure the following are unchecked IAT/EAT
Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
Show All (don't miss this one)

Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

If you still have troubles, try running the scan in Safe Mode.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Login on your usual account. Make sure to close any open browsers.

I have a weird problem, I can read webpages and even input Chinese characters on my computer but when I download a programme written in Chinese characters I can only see the annoying codes, how do I deal with this?

A:Can't read Chinese characters

You would have to have a Chinese version of windows in order to install a Chinese program in many cases.

I used to run Engish windows, and as you said, I was able to view Japanese websites, and input Japanese characters, but I couldn't install any Japanse software into my comptuer without the characters getting all messed up.

The good news is, the opposite is NOT true. If you buy a Chinese version of windows, all English software works no problem.

I have heard that Windows Vista will allow us to select what language version we want to run, and with the click of a tab, switch from language to language (like you can with a Mac). I hope this is true!

Hi,
I have a document on Microsoft Word 2002 with a couple of Chinese characters in it. I'm running XP. They appear as just some rectangles, even though the task bar in the bottom of the screen identifies the language as Chinese (Taiwan). That's the traditional Chinese characters. I've installed the OGAPluginInstall.exe file and restarted Word, but the problem remains.

I'd appreciate it very much if anyone has any advice on this. Thanks in advance,

Duh - Let me just put this here just in case it's useful for anyone else. Go to Control Panel and click 'Languages.' Click the option for installing Asian languages. It's about 250 Mb.

Hello all, Glad I found this forum... hopefully someone here has come across this issue and knows the fix for it.

First off, this is very new computer with Vista Ultimate (64-bit) and it has Norton and Guild Wars installed.
Here's the Problem...

Whenever I run Guild Wars, there is a new folder with Chinese or Korean looking characters for a name created with a guild wars sub folder. and if I try to do a screen capture, it creates an other folder (again with foreign letters and in both cased the folders are empty with only an empty guildwars sub folder being created) in the main guild wars directory. And I can not use the Template System in guild wars (this is my biggest concern) not sure why exactly but in the Guild wars chat box, it says that Guild wars was unable to save the template because it could not access/write to the folder ... or something like that.

has anyone come across this before? is there a fix to the problem?
I have tried a complete re-install of guild wars in the default spot (program files) also I have tried a complete install in C:\Guild Wars, as well as an attempt on a seperate partition.... all with the same result.... foreign folders on startup created and unable to use the template system in the game

Any help would be greatly appriciated!
