I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm at a complete loss. Why would I want my buttons to be touch sensitive? When I attempt to actually do what they're meant for, CLICKING, the cursor is moved off of my target. Right clicking is basically pointless to attempt. Then in (flash) games, where I need to both click and move the mouse at the same time, they are fighting each other to move in opposite directions. It's completely useless as it is. Am I missing something? Is there some voodoo trick that will allow me to do what every other laptop has been able to do for 20 years?

If not, is there some way to disable the touch sensitivity of the buttons, but NOT the entire trackpad?

Thanks

You should be able to do this if you go into control panel, click on mouse and make the adjustments there.

My Lenovo U410 Touch recently got damaged - the hinge broke causing the touch screen to **bleep**.I was told that a repair was not feasible as none of the repair shops near me were able to source the parts needed.I therefore bought a new laptop. However, there is a lot of data on the old laptop that I want to access, including sorting out the licensing of MS Office (by uninstalling from the old one).I cannot do anything about it as the old machine is completely unusable as due to the touch screen being cracked, it seems to think it is constantly being touched in multiple places on the screen. This means that I cannot access the laptop to copy the data or uninstall Office. Anyone know any way around this that doesn't involve taking it to a repair shop to "recover" my data. Cheers

Cleaned it up and still having same problem. Can I leave the soft pannel disconnected, to see if thats the problem ?

I believe you can leave it disconnected, but then of course those buttons won't work. Are you having other problems with the laptop? Be aware that the DV 6000 series, as with almost the entire DV lines, has some severe issues that extend way past what this article refers too: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13554_3-10020782-33.html

I have a strange problem.  All the smart touch buttons on the top right corner of the keypad, go on and off rapidly as soon as a I start my laptop. The buttons that I'm referring to are the mute/unmute buttons, onekey theatre, smart noise control and energy management button.  These are the problems: 1) As soon as a I power on my laptop, I can see these buttons flickering wildly.2) When I login, the energy management, one key theatre options come up on the screen and they keep toggling (in sync with the buttons flickering).  Since the focus remains on these screens, its impossible to open any application and work on that (for e.g. a browser window). I have tried multiple options: 1) Reinstalled the drivers 2) Did a system restore to the initial stage (using OneKey Recovery). Nothing has worked.  The buttons continue to flicker.    Since the sound goes mute and unmute rapidly, its not possible to use the laptop for any audio playback. Since the energy mangement options keeps toggling, the laptop gets heated up and the battery drains rapidly. I suspect that this could be a virus, but I thought the OneKey Recovery should have set it right.  But it hasn't. It will be greatly helpful if I can find a solution to this.

A:Z560 Smart Touch buttons going on and off

Hi Shankar,

Thank you for detailed description. You have already tried out all possibilities. That rules out any software (virus, drivers, OS) issue. Also as the LEDs flicker as soon as you power on the laptop, it will be related to hardware. Only option that you can try is to load defaults in BIOS and also attempt BIOS update. But I suspect a hardware failure. Contact local service center for assistance.

HiI installed a new operating system on my Laptop yesterday a much needed reload.and then went to update all the drivers listed on the HP website. I am not sure which one did this.  But it was working before I updated it. This caused a big problem because  I couldn't log in to my system or even get to the Safe start menu. I could press esc and get to the boot menu.   so the keyboard does work until windows starts.    One page said that this is a sign the keyboard works and it is software related. I plugged in a USB keyboard and got into windows.  How ever once there I saw that the laptop keyboard was not working and that the driver had an error. Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft natural PS/2 Keyboard with HP-QLBandSynaptic PS/2 Port TouchPadhad a error flags as did theATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 (microsoft Cororation WDDM 1.1)also had an error flag I also noted that there were problems installing the ATI Radion driver and it is also giving a error in the Device manager.  I will fix this later.  I saw a page that pointed at a driver that was associated to the graphics but would stop the keyboard from working so this may be related.  not sure. Thanks Rick M

Hello everyone.

I have a Satellite M645 with Windows 7 / 64 bit and recently some of the touch buttons have stopped working. These include the eco utilities, wireless, lighting, play/pause, mute and touch pad on/off button. Strangely the volume up and down work fine.

All the buttons are lighted all the time and when touched they go off (as regular) it is just that the function they're meant to do is not done.

For this I found a similar threat (http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=248139&#248139), but when trying to install *Toshiba Value Added Package* and *Flash Cards Support Utility* from the website the file I download can't be installed as I get this message:

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows is running. Check the computer's system information to see if you need an x86 or x64 version of the program and then contact your supplier."

I've tried installing both (x86 & x64) but neither of them work. That's it for now, I really appreciate any advice or side solution you can give me.

A:Satellite M645 - How to reset the touch buttons?

Hey,

Where have you downloade Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility? I have done a Google search and it seems that Satellite M645 is an US model and therefore all drivers and tools can be downloaded here:
http://www.csd.toshiba.com

Make sure you download the correct version of VAP and Flash Cards Support Utility. That means if you have Windows 7 64bit you have to download the 64bit version too.

Another question: Have you installed all other drivers like chipset?

Also try to load the default settings in BIOS and test it again.

Hi,

After Windows automatically changes the resolution for me (basically just before it first logs on) I get this flashing red and yellow screen saying "installing applications - do not touch any buttons, this process may take upto 30 minutes".

So I press control alt delete - obviously!

"no touch" and "cscript.exe" are two programs running and I can see what looks like command prompt in the background. It is a dell laptop so it might be bundled software, but I've never seen anything like this before.

Any ideas please?

I've recently re-formatted my computer and when I was done, I reinstalled all of the lenovo drivers but I don't know why when I touch any of the buttons on the touchpad (mute-lower volume-higher volume-video mode-thermal management),  the tab that used to appear showing me their change doesn't appear anymore. HOWEVER THE BUTTONS STILL WORK! like if I try to raise the volume, it will slowly increase. I really just want to set it like how it was before, I want the tab that appears when I touch the buttons! How do I fix this? I've considered that I may have downloaded the wrong driver, though that's possibly not likely, i'm not ruling it out though. This is the driver I downloaded for it "Synaptics Pointing Device Driver IN2THP78WW5.exe", it was right under touch pad. So if I did download the right one, why wont the tab appear?

This may sound like an odd request, but is there a way to disable the touchpad buttons from moving the mouse, but still have them work when they're pressed? Here's what happens...I'm using the touchpad and I hit the left button and it moves my mouse pointer a little.  But I don't want it to move. I just want to press the button without my touching it causing the pointer to move a little. It really screws with some things I do.

Is there any solution to this? If not, can I buy a completely different touchpad?

Hi all

I have followed various guides on the internet to achieve this but it does not seem to work.

I have found I like my task bar to be big icons and always combine, no labels. I think this is pretty default. I used to use a 3 high non combine task bar in WinXP, but anyway.

But when have e.g. mulitple windows open, and I click the taskbar icon I want a Text list of my open windows, not the Thumbnails ..

If I open e.g. 11 windows, I get what I want. Please see pictures.

If you look at the thumbnail image you will see it is nearly impossible to tell actually which window is which, as they all look the same, and Windows helpfully cuts of the title of the window. :/

How ever if I open a couple more windows I get a nice text list that lets me choose exactly what I want.

How do I get a text list ALL THE TIME?
I have diabled Aero Peek in the taskbar property setting but I beleive this is just for Desktop only. I have rad that disabling it in Computer properties -- see attached screen shot should fix it, but I have done this, restarted and it's still showing me thumbnails.

How do I fix this ? Cheers all

Are you just uninstalling the driver in Device Manager? That's what I would infer from your post. If that's the case, don't uninstall it; rather, just right-click on the touchpad and choose Disable. If you uninstall the driver, Windows will merely re-install it after a reboot.

Hello again John822179, It may have been a feature that was not included in the driver you are currently running. You can remove that driver and reinstall the original driver that came with your computer by following the instructions I am providing below: Step 1. Click StartStep 2. Click Control PanelStep 3. Click on Device ManagerStep 4. Click on Mice and other pointing devicesStep 5. Right-click on your mouse driver and select UninstallStep 6. Download and review the HP Support document: Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 7). Use it to reinstall your Trackpad drivers that originally came with your computer. This should give you the functionality you are looking for back. Again thank you for posting on the HP Forums. It still works, except the the touch feature doesn't work, of course, and sometimes the screen goes nuts as it "clicks itself all over the screen" and makes it temporarily unusable. I won't be able to get a new one right now. So, can anyone tell me if it is possible to disable the "touch" feature, so I can continue to use it as if it weren't a touch monitor?
Thanks.

A:How to Disable Touch

Hi IMA-USER,
Disconnect the USB upstream cable from the monitor to the system chassis. The touch works only if the USB upstream is connected.
Alternate option, go to device manager and expand human interface devices - and right click HID compliant touch device.
