I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Model: Yoga 710OS: Windows 10 Home 1709 Updated Windows.  Wireless no longer works!  Windows Mobility doesn't even think there *is* a wireless acapter. Went to the device driver, for device 'Intel Dual-Band Wireless-AC-8260' has an error message ... Windows is still setting up the class configuration for this device. (Code 56).  Of course, this is the only network I have on this machine, as this model doesn't have an ethernet port.  Very frustrating!

I switched to a wireless Linksys router from a crossover cable connection, and now file/printer sharing on my XP + Vista network isn't working. They can ping each other by ip address (not by name), and I've turned off firewalls, and the XP machine can see the Vista machine but not vice versa. Does anyone have any idea what I can try here? Thank you.

A:Ethernet connection works, Wireless does not. Wireless works for other devices.

Depending on the computer, there are two things I'd suggest you check on:

1.  Some computers (like my told Toshiba), has a slide switch on it, that physically turns off the Wi-Fi.
2.  My newer computer has a key combo that does that.  In this case Fn+F12.

Best of luck.

I've got an IBM ThinkPad 600X and I was connected wirelessly to the internet at a WIFI location when I discovered that I couldn't send an email from my ISP's Webmail site. After a google search, I discovered that I needed to upgrade Internet Explorer 6.0 with SP1. So I began with Windows Update and chose the proper upgrade. In the middle of the download, Windows Update stopped and gave me an error message with something about proxy server settings. It wouldn't let me continue the upgrade and now I can't access the internet anywhere. Windows Update placed a "Resume Windows Update Installation" file on my desktop, but when I click on it, it fails to continue because it is unable to find sites to download the update due to proxy server settings. I've checked all my network settings and my wireless is working fine, but when I open IE, it gives me the usual "The page cannot be displayed" and nothing I've tried works. This computer has no other access to the Internet, but wireless (there's no NIC port), so I'm having to research with my desktop. Can anyone help? Please?

My friend was trying to fix a computer that belongs to a friend of his girlfriend's family. After doing some basic cleanup, getting rid of unnecessary garbage in startup and so forth, he installed SP3. The computer is an older IBM ThinkCentre desktop running XP Pro. It has an Intel VE network adapter. He did not find any viruses or malware on the computer via several scans.

After installing SP3, the Internet - which worked fine beforehand - would no longer connect. We get limited or no connectivity whenever we try. I will note that on occasion, it will connect after disabling/enabling the adapter a few times, but only once, and it goes back to not working on restart.

Here are the things I tried:

- Every combination of resetting, refreshing, disabling/enabling the firewall, router, modem, and adapter.

- Running Winsock XP Fix

- Trying the computer hardwired into the modem (no router)

- Reinstalling, updating and rolling back the network adapter drivers

- Installing a second network card with fresh drivers to see if that worked (it did not)

- Checking all of the necessary services, starting and restarting the Internet Connection Sharing service (I'd heard of problems related to it after SP3 installs)

- Setting up a static IP both with router and no router

- Setting up JUST static DNS servers and leaving the IP on auto

- Doing a dance to the computer gods

- Uninstalling SP3 and reverting to SP2, then trying all of these things again.

Hi everyone-

I've got a puzzler--for me anyway, hopefully someone will have some advice.

My laptop connects to my modem and the internet, then after a minute or so, it stops working. It is not loading any pages, won't ping anything (request timed out), and is probably not connected to the router anymore since I can't load the router administration from that computer, but I still have a valid IP address, and Windows still insists that I'm connected.

The laptop internet works fine when using a wired connection. It also works fine when connecting to other wireless connections (work and Starbucks are 2 I've tried). The home network works fine on my Lenovo X61 running Windows XP as well as my LG p-925 (phone) running Android 2.2, my Acer A500 (Android 3.2). So I'm thinking it's a Windows 7 issue with my router, but I haven't been able to find anything on the topic online.

The router is a Dlink DIR-655

The laptop is a Samsung Series 3 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. This one, in fact: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-NP350...Y8J4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1321148125&sr=8-1

It is fresh out of the box. I have only installed Firefox, Dropbox, and AVG, which I did at work, where the wireless connection works ...

A list of things I've tried:
restarting the router, the modem, the laptop and again ...
removing encryption from the router
resetting router to factory settings
updating drivers on the computer (they were up to date)

I've been struggling for a week now trying to get my wireless internet working on my "repaired" Acer computer. But till this date, I still haven't made any progress. At all. I feel my sanity slipping away from me.

My computer is able to find all the previous connections I'm familiar with, but I'm just not able to connect. I even dare to say the connections are pretty strong, so I doubt it it's the antenna(s).

Last week the wireless connection on my PC upstairs quit working. I have 2 PCs and 2 PS3s. One PC(my main one) and PS3 are downstairs in my "gaming room" with a wired connection to my router(Linksys WRT54GL). My other PC(connected with a linksys ethernet bridge in bedroom, used just for email really) and other PS3(in living room) had wireless connections.
Everything was perfectly fine for years, then last week the PC in my bedroom no longer would connect. At first I thought that the bridge went out due to it's age and I bought a usb wireless adaptor. That did not solve the problem. After investigating further with my limited knowledge I saw that the IP address assigned wasn't valid for internet use(196.168.255.2 or something to that effect). I manually changed to IP to one that would be in range(192.168.1.112) and it did not help.
The lights on the bridge seem correct(power, lan and wlan). I took the PC downstairs and it is able to connect with a wired connection. When I run ipconfig with a wired connection everything looks fine, but when I try with the bridge or adapter the IP is invalid. I tried to ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew but I get an error when trying to renew. I even ran a program called "Winsockxpfix" and it did not solve the problem either. I disabled the firewall and it did not solve the issue. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, everyone, I just joined and would like some help, please. I didn't find a thread specific to my case (maybe there's one and I didn't see, though). I have a 6 year old Compaq Presario F730US running Vista Home Premium and it has been working fine all these years; yesterday, while online the blue light indicating wireless ON became amber suddenly and I can no longer connect except wired. The wireless adapter is not showing on Device Manager or anywhere else and HP Wireless Assistant won't open. Things I've already tried:
-Update/uninstall/reinstall driver
-Remove/reinstall hardware
-System Restore to at least a week prior
And some other tips from some tech sites around. Of course, nothing worked.
Thanks for any help.

Is this my problem, and if it is, how do I fix it?

Worse, because I had set it to the #1 display, when I connect the two, the control panel and anything I had on my laptop display goes to the second. And Windows 10 doesn't have that handy "Move" feature that older Windows have, so I cannot see the control panel while both monitors are in use.

Hello everyone,

I apologize if this topic has already been covered but search results were far too broad.

Anyways, I have a 3 computer network with a Linksys Etherfast router. Suddenly this morning, none of the computers can connect to the internet. All of the computers can still communicate with each other through the network so the router is working in that respect.

If I unplug any computer from the router and into the modem by itself, it can connect to the internet, so the modem is working fine.

Could my router possibly be bad or is there something else I can check?

I would appreciate any help. I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to networking.

In the process of renovating a VERY old Dell Inspiron 2650 to give to disadvantaged kids, I tried using the USB receiver in that laptop. Didn't work, so I used a wired mouse instead. The receiver had been plugged into my Win 7 Toshiba laptop, but when I re-inserted the receiver back into that laptop, the mouse doesn't work. I've tried removing both the receiver and the battery in the mouse, per some advice I read on the Web, but that did nothing. Have also tried downloading the driver. Regardless, when I plug the receiver into a USB port on the laptop, it "beeps" indicating that it recognizes the receiver. . . but it still doesn't work.

If I plug the receiver into my Win 7 desktop, the mouse works.

What's wrong here?

My Brother MFC 640CW printer used to work when I logged into Windows XP but now it only works when I log into Linux, how can I make it work again in Windows?

I am convinced the problem is with the printer configuration in Windows but I cannot work it out. I am sure the network and printer are configured correctly because I can both print and access the internet under Linux. And under windows I can use the internet and even ping the printer’s dynamically assigned IP address (allocated: 192.168.1.102) but the printer does not work. It would not work even when I turned off my firewall (ZoneAlarm) so I don’t think that is the problem.

I am not sure if it means anything but when I go into the printer configuration under Windows the Port the printer is set to use is something link “dhcpp0”. Could the problem be caused by a mismatch between this name and the actual IP address?

Here’s some background:

I recently purchased a wireless Brother MFC 640CW printer/scanner/fax and connected it to my existing (DHCP) wireless network. The network consists of a PC laptop and wireless router. The IP address of the router is 192.168.1.254 with DHCP addresses starting at 192.168.1.100 (the laptop usually gets assigned this address).

I installed the Brother MFC on the existing network using Windows XP Home and managed to successfully use all print/scan/fax functions. I then decided to give Linux a go and installed the latest Ubuntu version on my laptop (dual booting with WinXP). I had n... Read more

I just noticed that this hotkey combination has ceased working .  I don't use it that often, so I'm not sure how long this has been the case.  Other Fn/hotkeys are still functioning properly.  My W530 is running Windows 7 SP1 64bit, and both the Lenovo and the Windows Updates are current. I did search out the following post:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-11e-Windows-13-E-and/Hotkey-f9-wireless-radio-control-don-t-wo...but I'm not sure it applies to my case.  In particular, I don't want to re-install the "Lenovo Communications Utility" because I use the Windows function for connecting to Wi-Fi, and I recall that one of the related Lenovo overlays screwed that up to my detriment in the past.  (Generally I stay away from most of the Lenovo bloatware, but some, like the Fn/F5 feature, is very useful.) -- JCW2

I have a laptop that I usually use physically connected to my router, but sometimes I use it wirelessly when I want to lie down in bed. I have been living with this issue for a couple of months and wish to now resolve issue with your help.

Issue:
HP OfficeJet 4630 wireless printer no longer prints with my Dell D531 Desktop computer via WLAN, however works with all other WLAN connected devices, e.g., cellphones, netbook, laptop, and tablets. The print spooler indicates print finishes ok but nothing actually prints to

What I have done to fix issue without success:
1) Uninstalled/re-installed wifi printer several times on Desktop;
2) Reconnected HP printer to WLAN couple of times;
3) Properties for both desktop and printer show the same internet address;
4) Tried using MS Fixit printer trouble/diagnostic tools with no success (doesn't find issue); and
5) Read through this and other forums with no help so far.

I apologise in advance if i irritate you but i litterally have no clue what is what when it comes to laptops.

Ive had my Acer Aspire 5920 for a good few years now, it ran perfectly fine on vista for a good 3 years, not a hitch or care in the system. Then out of no where it goes missing for a week, and my mums ex boyfriend had upgraded it to 'windows 7 extreme edition' and none of the buttons of the sides worked, including the most important one- the wireless.

now i understand that a driver synaptics or something fixed the others, and it did. but still the wireless and all the buttons to the left refuse to work.

i cant ask the ex for help because he left on very bad terms and i have none of my original discs left. My friend has now got me running windows 7 professional 32 bit and i have the glowy buttons working, but not the wireless.

the reason i need wireless is soon im going to uni where i cant plug it into the wall to get the internet-that and the socket for the internet cable has started to melt and warped out of shape.

i cant seem to find ANY advice on this matter, that or i just simply dont understand the jargon. I dont care if it means going back to vista as that was fine to work with anyway - but how would i go about doing that if so?

Sorry to be a pain in the dariair.

Lots of time spent trying to unfold this disaster.1) I do have a hijack this log if someone would look at it. 2) Maybe two or three months ago, I updated Internet Explorer7 to IE8 and now it doesn't work at all. I'm stuck, forced to use Mozilla. 3) The wireless router IS in my house and it IS encrypted. YES, I DO have the password key... 4) For the past couple weeks, if I am in a program like MOBSTERS by MYSPACE my computer will freeze. It happens every time, SHORTLY after going into the MISSIONS tab. I have to do a hard restart or it'll stay frozen for the entire day.5) On my wireless connection... IF/When I click "repair".... It will work for maybe 15-30 seconds MAYBE!! and then it will restart my computer. 6) I can't afford to pay for help, but I do have a few rare coins I would happily exchange for some help here. I am new to this and don't understand how I will be contacted or how I will know if someone is trying to reach me. Call me if you wish. Or email. i keep having no internet connection on my home wireless network, usually when i download newer versions of software, such as itunes or java. this only happens on my dell inspiron laptop 1525. my other computers in my house work just fine. i have windows vista on laptop. the only error message i get is: The network adapter “Bluetooth Network Connection” in not connected.
the only solution i have found so far is to do a system restore to a previous date, and voila, i have my internet connection back, no problem. any help is greatly appreciated. i'm only an intermediate computer type person. any help greatly appreciated. thanks.

if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

Run the program

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.

Up until yesterday, it was working great to where I could use my laptop anywhere in the house. Now, for some reason or another, I am unable to connect to the internet on the laptop unless the wireless adapter is connected directly to the laptop. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I just want the connection to work again to where I can connect to the internet from my laptop from anywhere in my home. Can someone help, please?

Hey,
I have a internet connection through a cable modem.
The modem is a Scientific Atlanta webstar 2100 and also using a wireless router that's a Linksys WRT54GS.
I connect it to my computer and everything. The wireless works fine (i'm using a laptop to create this post). However, it is not a secure network so I wanted to add a password. The problem is that the host computer that is connected to the router has no internet connection. When I open internet explorer or try to find a connection through the troubleshoot, it says it can't find one. Can anybody figure out why this would happen and how to fix it? I think I have the modem's drivers and stuff updated to the host computer and stuff.
Therefore, I have no wait getting to the ip address and/or setting up a secure network.

Please help me,
Thanks

A:Wireless connection works, but Host computer's connection doesn't

would explain how all connected - all PC should be connected to the router - so there should not be a HOST PC

I am trying to set up a new Thinkpad laptop to work on my HOME workgroup and on a new OFFICE workgroup. I have used the HOME workgroup for many years, with many computers, without a problem, but this is the first time I have needed to set up two networks, and a laptop that works on both (I got a new Thinkpad, and rented a new office at the same time - big mistake).

- I am trying to configure the laptop to belong to the OFFICE workgroup, but have access to computers/shared devices from the HOME workgroup when I am on the home network, and of course share the Internet connection on both networks.

- Both networks have a Wireless Router with firewall - the one at HOME is a Linksys - the one at the OFFICE is a Netgear.

- Because of the firewall in the router, I have turned off Windows Firewall (although interestingly, it seems to turn on by itself quite often on the Thinkpad - another issue i need to get to the bottom of).

- HOME network is cable/cable modem, OFFICE is a T-1.

- I am trying to use IBM's "Access Connections" tool to create two network profiles, so that I can easily switch from OFFICE to HOME. The HOME wifi is unsecured, while the office is WEP.

Both the wired (ethernet) and wireless connections work fine at the office, but at home, the wired connection cannot renew the IP address, and so IBM Access Connections automatically fires up the wireless radio, and is only able to connect that way.

The Local Connection (at home) shows in the system tray... Read more

The wireless connection to my laptop is no longer working. I went to "network settings" followed by "wireless network connection" and the switch is turned to "off" and cannot be changed to "on". I went to "manage wifi and everything is turned on or checked. Under "known networks" mine is not listed. I rebooted the router, the wifi and the computer but nothing changed. Wireless is running normally to the rest of my computers.

So last night, my wired connection was working. I did not install any new software or download anything. Tried getting on the internet today and nothing. My computer has an IP Address but I can't get onto the internet at all. I can't ping google. I can ping my IP address assigned, can't ping my default gateway...

I have tried a different ethernet cable and I have changed the switch the computer is connected too.

I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the ethernet drivers.

I have already performed an ipconfig /release & ipconfig /renew. I also tried ipconfig /flushdns.

I have performed a netsh winsock reset, netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log, netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log, netsh int ip reset.

After performing all of the above I am stuck with the exact same situation.

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you don't have a satisfactory email address (e.g., from your ISP) you could try http://www.pcworld.com/article/231780/xirrus_wifi_inspector.html. If you need help with a screen shot see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 8 or 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Identify your network if it is not obvious.

Also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

[Press ENTER after each command.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I have a problem on my Toshiba laptop, running Vista. When first booted the internet connection is very fast, but after about 15 minutes it starts to slow, and every ten minutes or so the connection will drop completely (sometimes it shows as disconnected, sometimes it's simply impossible to bring up webpages) for about two minutes, after which it is fine but slow for another ten minutes before it drops the connection for two minutes again and so on. After about 75 minutes it's pretty unusable and I have to reboot - when all is fine again, but the cycle starts up once more.

Any ideas? The connection is strong and my previous Vista laptop had no problems at all.

Thanks,

JR

I have a wireless connection which up until yesterday was working perfectly well. I had a friend over who tried to connect his laptop to my network and ever since then

my router doesn't even show up.

I've tried, plugging & unplugging and resetting the Linksys router (I believe when I do this an unsecured network called "linksys" should come up but I do not see this.

I would really appreciate some help as I've looked over the threads and couldn't find an answer.

My old wireless was working fine, I simply updated my internet to faster speed and so I updated my router and modem hardware. I've consulted online manuals but cannot find the locations I'm told to go to enter new WPA-PSk codes for the new router. The wired internet is working fine and the XBOX & my phone shows a listing for my new router however I get an error message when entering the passcode from the router - my guess is that my desktop still has the old router info - I just can't find where to enter the new.

A:Solved: Updated Wireless Hardware on Windows XP Desktop - Can't get new wireless to w

Delete the wireless profile and scan for your network. When you try to connect you will be prompted for the WPA passphrase.

If that doesn't work disable encryption on the router and try to connect. Assuming success you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect.

My Tecra 9000 laptop running Win2k, ZAPro, Symantec AV Corp Ed, Aurorean VPN, MS Office. . . nothing else special.

Wired network connections always work, wireless connections work if I specify the IP address of the AP. It wasn't always like that. It used to connect fine, until the IT group re-imaged and added some patches. They don't know why wireless connectivity was affected.

The problem now is that I'm on an assignment in Puerto Rico and the hotel has wireless AP's for high speed access. The tech support is not on hotel staff, so they haven't been able to help me. The IT group has been of no help yet either.

When I activate the internal wireless card it connects to the network, however web pages won't load. If I check the network connection status it shows the connection speed and packets being sent but zero being recieved, if set to obtain IP automaticly.

Anyone know what might be causing this???

Dial-up sucks, wireless varies between 1Mbps to 6Mbps.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Recently my old Dlink DI-624 router died and I decided to get the Asus RT-N56U to replace it. So far I am happy with it except for this strange VPN issue.

I have a work laptop and I use it to access my work computer and work websites from home through Cisco VPN client. If I use the WIRELESS internet connection, then all is well. But if I plug in an ethernet cable to the laptop instead and turn off the wireless adapter, then the VPN session doesn't work. The VPN client will show that the connection is made but when I try to access work websites or my work machine via VNC, it is really slow and unresponsive and errors out constantly. The VPN client still shows I am connected but if I try to access anything it often just gets stuck.

This situation is really bizarre! If anything I would expect the wireless to perform worse!

Note that I see this issue only with my VPN connection to work. Normal internet seems to be fine with either a wired or wireless connection. Also my old DI-624 did not have this issue. It worked with both wired and wireless internet connection (although as expected it was faster and more reliable via wired).

Can anyone shed a light on this?

Thanks for any help!

Hello,
I have an HP Pavillion dv4030, Belkin wireless router, Windows XP Home ed OS. I had no problem getting a wireless internet connection for years, until now.

I can connect to the internet by connecting a cable from my laptop to the router. But I lose the connection when I remove the cable. I have checked the settings on my modem and confirmed with AT&T. I have checked the settings on my router and confirmed with Belkin. I tried calling HP, but apparently they don't offer phone customer service on laptops 5+ years old. I downloaded BIOS drivers and wireless LAN adapter drivers from HP's website, although they are current as of 2006, and my problems began about 2 months ago.

Can anyone offer any advice?! I have searched this board and other for similar problems, and usually the problems resolved after installing new drivers. I am not having the same success.

Thanks!

Hi there,

Not sure if this should be a networking or a operating system question, I guess it's a little of both.

Here's what's happening. I have a cable modem going to a wireless router. My PC(1) is plugged by wire into the router; another pc(2) and Mac Powerbook running wireless. Everything was running great until roommate was using PC1 a couple days ago. Now PC1 will not connect to anything but PC2 and laptop run fast and fine on wireless. I have cleaned with SpyBot and Ad-Aware, as well as Avg in Safe Mode and nothing comes up (usually that's all I have to do to fix it). I checked winipcfg and my network adapter is there with an ip address but if i release, it will not find another ip to renew. Also tried to restore to a couple days ago, no dice.

Here's where it get's weird. If I click just about any folder (my computer, my documents, my network), I get a fatel errod saying that Explorer has made a fatel error and will shut down. I click okay and it just goes back to the desktop, but doesn't shut down.

Roommate talked to ISP tech support (before i knew about the issue) and they were no help aside form wanting to send someone out, which i know is a waste of time since the connection to the modme is fine and that's all they will touch.

Anybody have any ideas? Computer with issue is running Win 98SE (I know I know...it sucks but i never use it anymore...that's why rommmate was using it. haha).

What do I need to do to fix the computer so I don't have to use Safe Mode to get IE to open.
