Red Neck Rampage

Q: Red Neck Rampage

Hi:

I believe I am trying to do the impossible, but what the heck, it's a slow day.

The problem I have is that I am trying to RR on XP Pro and so far I am having a real issue with my IRQ's. The ACPI has allocated IRQ 17 to the sound card and I want to change it to IRQ 5. I have checked the properties on the card and the change box is grayed out.

The system info is:

Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.1
OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3, 32 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.20GHz, x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 9
Processor Count: 1
RAM: 1278 Mb
Graphics Card: Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller, 64 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 305234 MB, Free - 207505 MB; F: Total - 76293 MB, Free - 60374 MB;
Motherboard: Dell Computer Corp., 0G1548, A, ..CN7082138BE06O.
Antivirus: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2011, Updated: Yes, On-Demand Scanner: Enabled

I would assume that I have to disable ACPI and have come across several ways to do it, but the postings are ancient so I really don't trust them.

What happens now is I either get an error box or if the "Test Sound" works the result is really jerky. As yet I have not got the program to even run and I have tried both the DOS box from Windows and DOSBOX. Both will let me run Set Up, but no joy for running.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Preferred Solution: Red Neck Rampage

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

(Toshiba R705-P35 laptop: Win 7-64 bit, 8GB RAM, SDD, i3 CPU, did I miss something?)

Hi Folks,

I have a CAD SW that is just fast enough most of the time, but when it does certain things, it seems to take forever. For example, when I first load a file to start working with it, it takes over 3 minutes to get ready to use. Sometimes I use Task Manager>performance tab and it typically shows 25-33% CPU Usage, and I usually only see activity on 2 of the 4 CPUs. I watch the HDD (SDD) activity light, and it doesn't look like there's much activity.

Or, if I click "undo" in this program after making some small change, it might block and make me wait for over a minute before I can do something else.

Anyway, I'm curious to find out what takes it so long to do these things. I'm thinking it's a SW design issue, like the CAD SW isn't written to take full advantage of today's HW or something. Is this something I can figure out using Win 7 performance monitoring? Otherwise, what can I use to monitor the CAD SW and PC interaction and see what the bottleneck is?

Thanks!

Hey guys I just bought a new comp and decided to get a new Graphics Card at the same time. These are the spec on the new comp:

2.6 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ dual-core processor
400 GB Serial ATA hard drive,
3 GB RAM (4 GB max)
16x LightScribe DVD-/+RW drive
Nvidia GeForce 6150 video/graphics card with 128 MB of dedicated video RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium (with Media Center capabilities)

The integrated Video Card bites so I just bought a Nvidia 8800 GTS 300 mb card

My question is do you think my processor will restrict the new graphics card and bottle neck it??

Any helps appreciated!

A:Windows Logon = Pain In The Neck Ple Help ! ! !

Not sure if this is what you are wanting to do but you can go to ctrl panels, then users, then change the way users log on and off, then uncheck use welcome screen.

If you are wanting ot not have to enter your password every time (or hit enter if you didn't set one up), you can dl TweakUI from Microsoft (its a free powertoy) and it will have an option in there somewhere (can't be bothered to look right now) that you can check or something to auto login.

Hey,

I wasn't sure about something I was hoping someone could clarify this for me. I was wondering if the Front side bus speed of a Mobo is bottlenecked by the processors FSB? For example, if my mobo's FSB speed is 1333MHz and my CPU's FSB is 1066MHz, does this mean that they will bottleneck at 1066MHz, or are they independent from each other?

Thanks

A:Front Side Bus bottle neck?

The CPU controls the FSB. The motherboard's FSB, as you speak of it, is just the highest FSB that the mobo is guaranteed to support. Some ASUS motherboards, for instance, can run at 1333MHz FSB when the processor supports it. But if the processor's FSB is 1066, that's what the FSB will be. But the FSB speed is determined by the processor.

I live in Japan but I'm not Japanese.
I've installed Windows 8 with English (United States) as Display language and the location in Region settings is set to Japan.

All the pre-installed Apps in Metro are in English.

Fine so far.

Now when I download any App from Store, the installed version is Japanese and I can't find any settings anywhere to change the language.
For example, I've installed Skype from Store, which shows everything in Japanese. Now if I download a Desktop version of Skype from their official site, the desktop version is in English.

Any Apps or game which I download from Store is in Japanese while the desktop version of the same App is in English.

Now this is some questions I hope somebody can help:
How can I change the language of an Application downloaded from Store. Is there any way to tell the store to download an English version not a Japanese one? (for future downloads)

Any kind of help is much appreciated.

After I installed Tiny Personal Firewall/Pain in the neck, my computer gets the blue screen of death every ten minutes (if I'm lucky), which is probably one of the most annoying things. Ever. Anyway, it was nice of them to leave out the uninstall feature, what a showcase of arrogance, their program is so good no one will want to uninstall it? Or maybe it is someone's idea of a sick joke. Anyway, how do I get the damned thing off of my computer, or did I just miss the uninstall feature (wouldn't be suprised either)? Thanks for your help.

I use Home Premium x64

After careful considerstion and the promise that It takes 3 hours to pop out a nice new slipstreamed copy of windows SP1, I thought i'd take on the challenge. Ooops! Little did i know that when you read the tutorial it turns out, that you may have a few problems along the way. Also I shoul have understood what I was trying to do before I started, which I admit I didn't! But, I thought as long as you follow the instructions you can't go wrong!Ooops'2'. Being a dullard you can't go wrong with the instructions can you!
But, I got all the way to section 15 to find out that i had to do the process all over again. So, I did!

Then i was wondering why it used up 4Gb of memory whilst processing. Me thinks Ohh no not a worm again. After spending 60+ hours getting rid of a worm and wipeing all my hard drives and giving my computer a clean bill of health on Monday last week, I find I have another worm so says Kaspersky.
This time I've only downloaded from Microsoft and the company called vLite to create my Slipstream Windows disk. So, the worm comes from either Windows or vLite.
vLite me thinks?

But that is not the problem when i tried to make my Slipstream DVD again i could not make the the ISO any smaller. So i decided to make an ISO image of 4.6GB to a folder to which it would not even work.

A:SLIPSTREAM Tutorial A pain in the neck!

For someone who hasn't done a Vista slipstream, I did do an SP one once. I assume you got the instructions from the tutorial on this site?

What worm do you have, and are you sure you got rid of it the first time? Do you have any other computers networked that might also have it? I suppose I might as well ask where you got your vLite? Did you use WINRAR for anything?

The process probably takes as much memory as it can to save time. The process has to go through and compare files to see which one needs to go on the slipstream. It takes a lot of processing power, hard drive usage and probably memory as you have noted.

Did it work?

I've made many family histories using Publisher 2002. Now I have a new computer with Publisher 2007. It converts the files and many times messes the pages up. I've had to retype many of them. Now, I'm trying to write a new family history and wanted to make a family tree page. I wanted to make small boxes to put in the names of the family members. I can't find the tools to make lines, boxes, or even ovals that I've used before. Can anyone give me a hint as to where I'll find the tools to do so. Publisher 2002 was so easy to use, but this new one is a pain in the neck!! Thanks for any help or suggestions. lilart

I would NOT be using Publisher to do what you are trying to do.

There are several VERY good Family Research programs out there. I would spend some time in looking to using one.
I have been using Family Tree Maker since the early DOS days and is well worth the money spent over the years.

I have a problem with Internet Explorer loading on top of itself, each and every time I access the web.

The first download is just fine. Everything as it should be on my yahoo page.

Then, about five seconds after it loads, it loads again with the smaller screen. Every time, the second load is an add of some kind. Always a different add. I have counted twenty-two so far. So I am assuming that I have some kind of an add-ware gremlin. And, I suspect that all the adds are coming from the same place. I just can?t figure out how to get rid of the little monster.

I have run a deep virus scan with Fix-It Utilities 10 and can not seem to come up with anything out of order there. All seems good. But my little gremlin continues to show his ugly little face each time I access the web.

I am running Windows XP, 2002 Home Edition, Service Pack Three.

Any help would be appreciated. Just please be kind and don?t hit me with all the heavy computer terminology. I know you understand it, but I sure don?t. Just talk to me as if I am indeed the idiot I sometimes think I am.

Grateful for your time,

A:Bottle Neck When running Google Crome With Core i3 2nd Gen

I have a computer that has 2 GB of RAM at 1066 MHz which is 1 yr. old, when I use google chrome, firefox and CS5 at the same time it only uses 61-65% memory, its weird that you only have one page open on chrome and it uses 200 MB memory, Are your browsers up to date? If not update it. I think it has something to do with your RAM, probably you have a memory leak from what I know. What are the extension and add-ons in your chrome that is using that much RAM? I have 32-bit W7 when its idle it uses 20% memory.

I have and emachine w/Windows Vista Home Basic, I have been having trouble with Zoo on Facebook jamming my computer to the point that I have to hit Ctrl/Alt/Delete to bring up Task Manager and Ending Task - sometimes having to End Process. Tonight when I did this, I had to End Process and somehow my whole desktop turned sideways. My tool bar and the bottom of the screen went to the right while the top went to the left and I now have a vertical screen display. How do I return this to it's normal display? I looked under my Control Panel and couldn't find anything to correct this. HELP! I'm getting an awful crick in my neck!

OK, I installed an adaptec AVA-2906 SCSI card in a free PCI slot. I'm using it with my Yamaha A4000 Sampler. You're supposed to turn on the sampler first to be able to access the .WAV editor via SCSI, which is where all the problems start

When I do this, the computer tells me that it's JUST finding the SCSI card all of a sudden and keeps prompting me for drivers. Any other time when I don't turn on the sampler first, it doesn't ask me. Eventually, I get through and the program works anyway, but the point is, how do I avoid this nuisance?

Any suggestions?

A:SCSI on the rampage

I have 5 devices on an Adaptec 2940 card. Whenever a device goes AWOL or the SCSI setups seems to have gone bonkers I just remove the SCSI card in device manager and reboot. It always fixes the problem – whatever it was. The card is redetected and all the devices on it are set up again when you do that.

If you try to use a device like a scanner that was not turned on and gone through its setup before booting the computer, it will sometimes not be seen. You can just refresh the SCSI card in device manager and it will be recognized. Rebooting will do the same thing in that case but the refresh is faster.

You should not have had to install drivers for an Adaptec 2906 or reinstall them if you remove the card and reboot. A 2906 doesn’t have a BIOS to install and Windows should load the drivers when it is detected.

When i removed "Bootskin" or some other program (don't really remember, because i had this problem for 4 months) the default setting that was set to "open" My computer or Windows explorer changed to next in line "Search" i think. I said to myself no problem, i know where to change this back, and when i change it back to "open", every time i opened My computer or Windows Explorer, window is opening in a new window not in a same window. I checked the settings, and changed them back and forth to "open each folder in same window" and "open each folder in it's own window" and those setting won't apply. Then i tried to set new settings in "File Types" tab, but i think i didn't made correct settings because nothing changed. I've changed i think "File Folder" or "Folder", added the command open that was missing, but selected the explorer.exe to execute that command. I think i had to do something more.. Anybody knows, how to get back my original setting (without system restore suggestion please, because i turned it off a long time ago :)), and is there i way to delete these settings that are already active? ("remove" seems not to be active when i click on open, find, or something else)
I used "Windows commander" in this time, instead of Win Explorer because for me it's very annoying that i have to close 7, 8 windows.

Hi thefilterhead

Some quick-fix tries:
1) Visit the Kelley's Korner XP Tweak site page in the following link, and try the fix on line #30 (for saving user settings) and #69 (for reuse windows). These are direct Registry changes, and tend to stick --- http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
2) Try repairing or going to a newer version of IE (it shares a lot of files with Explorer, and this can sometimes help).
3) Try running a Registry Cleaner, in case some entries in your Registry are sticking around and gumming up the changes you want to make. I like CCleaner for this sort of work - the "Cleaner" functions can help trim up your temp file storage, and the "Issues" functions can help sweep up unwanted Registry leftovers. Run the "Issues" function a few times, until it reports "no issues found". You can grab CCleaner over at cnet --- http://www.download.com/CCleaner/300...-10315544.html
4) In case any system files have jumped back a version or two during a program install, try using Windows File Protection to check and replace any that aren't playing with team spirit: from the Start/Run box, type

sfc /scannow

... the program might prompt for either your Windows installaton CD, or the spot on your hard drive where your .cab files are. It will only do so if it finds a version problem, or a file missing. The program will leave entries in the Event Viewer for when it starts, when it stops, and what files it re... Read more

A:HELLLP, moomins on the rampage.

Greetings, and welcome to TSF. I see one problem that could be the root of your troubles. Let's fix it and see if that is all we have to do.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Hi, I have a few quick questions about the RAM support of the Asus Rampage II.

I know it can support up to 1333MHz native, but if I throw some 1600MHz DDR3s in it will it run?

Also what would be the procedure in BIOS to get it overclocked to work? Would I just need to up the voltage to handle the RAM?

Im about 1 click away from ordering and then building my dream computer, and I wanted to make sure everything was sound and compatable before I dropped that much money on something that doesn't work.

Thanks.

Hi All-

Have an interesting and am trying to tease it out.

I was overclocking like crazy for 3 days or so (got up to 5000mhz). Anyhow, after all my overclocking I went into Windows for real (not just for benching). I reset all my BIOS settings etc.. etc.. I started getting Unrecoverable_Hardware BSOD's. This was happening every 5 minutes or so. My AMD driver kept resetting so I figured it was driver issues. I used a restore point and the errors occurred within a greater period of time. I then began the hardware portion of my troubleshooting. Actually I first did a flash back of both onboard BIOS'es. Went back into windows, same problem. I switched off the lanes for each of my VGA cards. With all three on, same probem. Each one individually same problem. I have a few RAM kits, tested each individually.

I watched my voltages and temps, they were all high. It is a processor that runs hot, but I am under water. And they usually are in the 20's. Running in the 50's. I reseated the processor, water block etc... No dice.

Okay, here goes. I checked out my voltages in BIOS and all seemed fine. I decided to up the Vcore from the CPU's 1.18 or so to 1.4. Everything has worked fine for 2 days. still works fine right now too. Sleeps fine, everything. Of course, this brought up the wattage and temps at no load. When I run Prime95 core 5 gets up to 91, obviously the Intel thermal sensor kicks. The other cores about 70 or so.

I don't have the minidumps as I just tried to rein... Read more

Stop 0x124 is a hardware error....
If you are overclocking try resetting your processor to standard settings and see if that helps.
If you continue to get BSOD's here are some more things you may want to consider.

Quote:
Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try
Synopsis:

A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint. Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress.
Generic "Stop 0x124" Troubleshooting Strategy:
1) Ensure that none of the hardware components are overclocked.
Hardware that is driven beyond its design specifications - by overclocking - can malfunction in unpredictable ways.

2) Ensure that the machine is adequately cooled. If there is any doubt, open up the side of the PC case (be mindful of any relevant warranty conditions!) and point a mains fan squarely at the motherboard. That will rule out most (lack of) cooling issues.

3) Update all hardware-related drivers: video, sound, RAID (if any), NIC... anything that interacts with a piece of hardware. It is good practice to run the latest drivers anyway.

4) Update the motherboard BIOS according to the manufacturer's instructions. Their website should provide detailed instructions as to the brand and model-specific procedure.

5) Rarely, bugs in the OS may cause "fa... Read more

My roommate received an ASUS Rampage II Extreme motherboard along with a Core i7 from NCIX today. All went well except he has no sound. If this is in the wrong section, mods can you please move it? Thanks.

A:ASUS Rampage II Extreme sound

That SupremeFX "sound card" is the onboard sound. It isn't a true sound card and nothing more than a riser card containing the onboard sound.

I would start with contacting where the board came from and see if they still have the card. failing that you can order one from Asus for $45.00,

Supreme FX X-Fi

Personally if you can't get it from where the board came from I would go with an actual sound card.

upon switching the power switch on the psu, the ROG light, and 2 molex powered cathodes lit up, 140mm fan at top of antec 900 was "twitching" the rog light usually pulses at this point as well as a few other small leds and the 'extreme oc' panel lights are supposed to come on,

having the coolant ready to fill as the pump started i hit the power button, nothing... second try after unplugging peripherals and pump, the cathodes went out...

now upon switching the power switch on the psu, cathodes don't light anymore.. (shouldn't of anyway..)

completely removed the water system, reran all power etc. the standard untidy way, reinstalled air cooler, removed all ram, hdd's gpu's etc. 'extreme oc' lights wont come on anymore..

pushing the 'cmos reset' button on the back makes the rog light go off (lit up dull whole time in stead of pulsing bright) and all lights on the extreme oc panel light up except 'start' :S

any help greatly appreciated.. don't wanna have to buy another one of these boards

I recently purchased am Asus Rampage III Extreme mobo for my first enthusiast build in several years, and I have some questions about which memory its compatible with.

On newegg, the specifications state that these frequencies will work: DDR3 2200(O.C.) / 2133(O.C.) / 2000(O.C.) / 1800(O.C.) / 1600 / 1333 / 1066.

Does that mean that I can put DDR2200 memory in that mobo, or that I can overclock DDR1600 up to 1800, 2000, 2133, or 2200?

Thanks for your help!

A:Asus Rampage III Extreme memory compatibility

The overclock RAM bandwidth is dependant upon overclocking the CPU for the most part since CPU and RAM frequency are linked by fixed divider ratio's. Overclocking RAM is usually a by-product of overclocking the CPU.
If you are looking to get the RAM to DDR3-1866+ speeds you should be looking for a faster kit. DDR3-1600 in general will not reach past 1900 for the most part*- if it did then it would be sold as a faster kit.
Buying a DDR3-2000 kit (for example) gives supposed headroom for overclocking, plus has the standard JEDEC RAM profiles embedded within it (DDR3-1066, -1333, -1600) for operating with a non-overclocked CPU. This range of utilisation (along with the higher speed bin) is why faster kits sell for a premium.

* This is assuming the RAM is not over-volted. While the Core i7/i5 CPU's have a maximum memory voltage of 1.875v ( Intel spec pdf Table 2-6, pg.22), I believe any CPU damage that occurs using a voltage over Intel's 1.65v recommendation is not covered by warranty.

Do you have the power cable plugged into the drive as well? If the computer is powered on, can you push the button to open the tray? If not, then it would definitely be a power issue. It may seem like a simple step, but I'm only asking because you didn't mention it...only the SATA data cable.

Hi everyone,

I am still trying to build my computer, and I have almost everything, but I am still undecided about the motherboard.

Up until now I was going to use the GA-EP35C-DS3R, even though the fact it only has 1 PCIe x16 slot really annoy me. But then I read Techspot's new guide and learned about the "ASUS Rampage Formula". That motherboard however uses the new X48 type of CPU, and I have the Q6600.

So, my question is:
Does anyone know of another motherboard like the ASUS Rampage that uses the older LGA775 design?

A:Asus Rampage Formula, GA-EP35C-DS3R?

Both motherboards use the same socket. The Rampage Formula uses the newer X48 chipset as opposed to the Gigabyte mobo's P35 chipset. I'd recommend a newer P45 chipset motherboard as the best option, something like this one.

I have all my fans on full now, and I innstalled an extra to get the temp down to 86 for now.
And I get these tempratures on startup in the BIOS.
And the Bios is sett to deafult settings.
So somthing is completly off here.
Any ide what to do?

A:Asus Rampage II Extreme, X58 NB cooling issue

possibly a defective mobo. but check to make sure the NB sink is secure anyways

Hey guys, I was thinking of purchasing this temperature sensor:

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=207_160_300_1365&products_id=11737

I'm assuming it should be suitable to use with an Asus rampage 3 extreme, can somebody confirm this, and also tell me where the jack would plug into on the board, also how is it viewable from windows, I'm read that it will appear in bios.

I have searched exhaustively to find info on this temp sensor working with a rampage 3 extreme, to no avail..

Thanks in advance.
