I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all, I have windows 8.1 64 bit and i am having problems connecting to windows update and the windows store, I have no problem connecting to the internet its just windows update and windows store, Upon going to windows update it just acts like it is searching for like 5 minutes then gives me this error WindowsUpdate_80080005 OR WindowsUpdate_dt000  saying I have no internet connection which I know is untrue. I have tried malwarebytes and even uninstalled and reinstalled my network drivers,The windows store does the same thing saying I have no internet connection, Any help would be appreciated Thanks

A:Windows update error WindowsUpdate_80080005 OR WindowsUpdate_dt000

Try this first:

Then please run the following DISM commands to see if there's any problems with the system (from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt).  Press Enter after each one:Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealthDism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealthDism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
FYI - I have repaired systems using the last command even though problems weren't found with the first 2 - so I suggest running them all.
From this article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh824869.aspx
You can also run sfc.exe /scannow from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt to check for further corruption.

Then start in on these Windows Update troubleshooters:

I have had my Dell 8700 for little over a year and have had problems from the beginning.  I am 72 years old, and I am at my wits end!!!

A hard drive was replaced in the summer of 2015, but I have still had problems with the computer shutting down and my having to refresh it to factory setting.

I thought updating to Windows 10 would solve some problems, and I did this in October, 2015.  Everything was fine until a couple of months ago.  The end result was when I tried to refresh the computer to factory defaults, it went back to 8.0 or 8.1, and I evidently lost something in the process.
Now, I cannot update to Windows 10 and when I tried to resinstall the Dell Operating System, I get for both:  "WE COULDN'T UPDATE THE SYSTEM RESERVED PARTITION."
I DO HAVE A SYSTEM BACKUP ON 20 CDS (MADE WHEN I HAD WINDOWS 10).  Could I reinstall the system with these backupdisks?  How do I do that?  I also have a Dell 2 Boot USP stick, I have a recovery stick, too, but it semed that when I used this, I received a message that not all files were recovered
What should I do at this point?

A:Error message when trying to update to Windows 10 or to reinstall operating system 8.1: We couldn't update the system reserved partition."

On MBR disk, Windows 10 requires a 500MB system reserved partition, while 100MB in Windows 7, so you can try to extend system reserved partition.
In disk management, you can only extend partition using the unallocated space next to its right side. so even if you shrink D: drive, the option to extend the efi partition is still grayed out. My suggestion is to use a third party software, AOMEI Partition Assistant, both the standard (free) or the Professional(paid) version can extend partition as long as there is unallocated space on that hard drive. to see more information read:
Fix "We Couldn?t Update the System Reserved Partition" Error

I purchased a new notebook with Windows 7 in October. During the first weeks I uninstalled McAfee and replaced the harddrive. Since November Windows Update fails with error messages and defender does not start anymore. I made several virus scans (complete) with multiple antivirus programs but nothing showed up.Since it took my days to install various software, I do not want to re-install W7. I also have no good backup that I could restore. I am really surprised that there is not even a single entry regarding the error code in the Microsoft Knowledge base or elsewhere.I really would appreciate help.

If You are using notebooks with with hard drive larger than 700 GB you probably should update Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver.

Hello,I have a very frustrating problem.Windows XP SP2Dell Dimension 2400Dialup connectionIE7For several reasons, I manually update my computer rather than using auto updates. I was attempting to do so last night and all day today without success. I last updated back in April. (My new job has been keeping me busy and I got behind on computer maintenance). Here's what happens:I go to the Windows update site in IE. It says that it needs to check for the latest updating software, then says that I need to download and install the latest updating software and there is a button "Update Windows" that I need to click on which I do.The text now says something about downloading updating software and percentage numbers appear: It pauses on 67%, 84%, 92%, then goes to 100%. Then it is copying files, then it is registering. Each goes to 100% fairly quickly, then I get an error page. See screen shot below:I have checked FAQ, discussion forums, and troubleshooting on MS pages to no avail. Any ideas?Orange Blossom

Your current security settings prohibit running activeX controls on this page. As a result the page may not display correctly.

After i hit the ok button nothing happens and the screen stays blank and does not list the updates available. I was also wondeing if this problem may also be causing me not to be able to sign into my hotmail accounts and messenger. I have checked out all the help information but keep coming up with dead ends so i decided to turn to you guys for some help. I have had a look through your forums and some of the problems seem similar but not being very computer savvy i thought id ask and include the message i get when i try to update.

Do you have any other problems connecting to the Internet (any website)?

If you go to Network Connections (Control Panel/Network & Internet Connections/Network Connections), list the connections appearing there.

To anyone that can help me out:

I purchased a windows anytime upgrade key and upgraded my system from windows 7 home premiuim to windows 7 ultimate now when my windows tries to update I get this: (See image titled "message")

To bring you up to speed as to what I've done so far:
I ran sfc\scannow and no errors were found
I downloaded the hotfixes and apllied them and still could not update
I tried to do a system restore to the point before I upgraded, but I could not perform one because all of my previous attempts to update windows automatically creates a system restore and all the restore points were within a 24 hour period
I installed a system update readiness tool as per "windows help and support" dialogue box

To see the updates that did not install, refer to the image titled "update"

Really, I feel like I've done my homework and I've exhausted my efforts as to how to fix this problem. I'm currently going to school for computers and so I really like to apply what I learn in real world situations, but this one has got me stumped!

I'm also attaching my checksur.log I don't understand it now and it looks like a foreign language to me, but as I progress through my information systems degree I hope one day I can become a techsupport forum partner.

There are no error messages with the windows updates.
I tried to upload the CBS.log but i keep getting this error message:

There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.

How do I get the file to you?

A:Repeated windows update; no error message

The 500 error when attempting to upload is almost always because the file you're attempting to upload is too large - strip out the CBSPersist files until the resulting file is less than 8MB, then try again.

Make sure that you follow these instructions,...

Ya Ya Ya, there's over a hundred threads like this, ...

Anyway, started getting this error message a few days ago, and done a lot of searching on this error message, apparently it's not, uncommon.

In particular, the (currently) 4 updates that are being affected are:
Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 (KB3173428) - Error 0x80070543Security Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 (KB3172729) - Error 0x80070543Security Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1511 (KB3174060) - Error 0x80070543Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 (KB3176493) - Error 0x80070543

The actions I've taken to date are:
Uninstalled firewall program (comodo)Uninstalled anti-virus (Avast)Reset the windows update catalog on local machine.

So the above errors are with the above done.

What other steps should I be taking to resolve the issue?

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

This happened quickly. First thing I noticed was during a Windows Update. I had recently reformatted my hard drives and had a LOT of programs to download and install. It went well until the end when it refused to install three security updates and another update ( not sure which). Microsoft was stepping me through things - running "FixIt" and the Microsoft WIndows Readiness Tool. This had no effect.
I also ran system file checker. NOthing has worked. On the contrary, things appear to have gotten worse. WHen I would try to log onto ebay, or most any secure website I would get an error message - something to do with SSL. I tried it with Internet Exlorer ( I was using Mozilla Firefoxat first). Using explorer I was allowed to enter secure sites but other things stopped working.
None of the links in Outlook emails work anymore - I get a "general failure message".

I've ran with Norton, Microsoft Essentials, Malware Bytes Anti malwarem - all came back clean.

Can you help like you did before with a problem I had a year or so ago!?!?

Thanks in advance - you're the best.

If you have Norton Internet Security or N360 - remove it.

When I try to install KB3182373, a "Security Update for Microsoft Silverlight", Windows Update reports failure with the message "Code 643 Windows Update encountered an unknown error".
I ran WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab. It reported that "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem".
What can I do to fix this? I'm running Windows 7 Professional.

Hi,
We work on a domain that uses Symantec Management console to administrate our patch enviroment. We have windows updates disabled. But our Windows 8 machines get this message once a month

"Windows update hasn't been able to check for updates for the last 30 days"

Just wondering if anyone knows which GPO to use to disable this setting as I have been unable to find it.
Thanks

A:How to disable the windows update message "Windows update hasn't been able to check for updates for the last 30 days"

Hi?
You can turn off the message by GUI in Control Panel\System and Security\Action Center, in the right pane, click "Change Action Center settings", then untick the "Windows Update" option.

For GPO, you can disable all balloon notifications:
User Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Start Menu and Taskbar\Turn off all balloon notifications
Or remove Action Center icon itself
User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar\Remove the Action Center icon
And I haven't found a GPO to turn on\off a specific message mentioned in the action center, but the setting for the message is related with registry key under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Action Center\Checks
but the value under the key is binary, hard to control, if you have interest, you can export the key from a preference pc, then deploy the GPO via
User Configuration > Preferences > Windows Settings > Registry

I am using Windows 7 Professional with Service Pack 1.
Windows Update has lost my update history and hangs when I tell it to check for updates. Windows Update Troubleshooter reports "Windows Update error 0x80070057(2016-07-15-T-12_59_34P) Not Fixed". How can I get Windows Update working again?

Here is a detailed account of the problem:
Earlier today, I ran Windows Update and told it to install 15 important updates. It said it was downloading them, but stalled for 30 minutes at 0% done.
I rebooted my computer and re-ran Windows Update. It reported that there were no pending important updates. I clicked "View update history" and saw that the most recent 15 important updates had failed. I clicked "Check for Updates" and,
when it finished checking, Windows Update continued to report that there were no pending important updates.
At that point, I concluded that something was wrong with Windows Update. In an attempt to fix it, I downloaded and ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter (WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab). It reported one problem found: "Windows Update error 0x80070057(2016-07-15-T-12_59_34P)
Not Fixed".
After running Windows Update Troubleshooter, I re-ran Windows Update. It reported that my most recent check for updates was "Never", and that updates were installed "Never". When I clicked "View update history" I saw an empty
list. When I clicked "Check for updates", the applicat... Read more

Dear Windows Seven Forums,

I try to resolve my own issues and normally do. However, this error message has gotten the better of me so far.

Have tried various solutions posted about this error message, from registry to firewall. None work so far.

I have enclosed the notepad containing the contents of the diagnostic tool report.

If anyone has a few moments to take a glance and give me there opinion I would be grateful.

Kind regards,

HH

On a computer running Microsoft Windows non-core edition, run 'slui.exe 0x2a 0x8007007E' to display the error text.

I don't think, in the 20,000+ reports I've read, I've ever seen an 0x8007007E error before!

Please downloadand save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

(you'll need tolook in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft DownloadCenter)

Run it - The toolcan take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install')depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear tofreeze for most of that time, but be patient.

The result islogged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip theCheckSUR.log and attach it to your reply
