error messages on my hp laptop, no windows media player

Q: error messages on my hp laptop, no windows media player

Sorry if I am posting in the wrong area, I am quite new to this. Every time I start up my system, after the main windows screen, I am getting this same error message:

ArcCon.ac - Application error
"The application failed to initilize properley(0xc0000005).click on ok to terminate the application"

also if I try to use windows media player I come to the inital stage of installing windows media player 10, when I click on finish I get another error explaining that WMP is not installed properly, asking if I want to install from the Microsoft web site.

I choose yes, folow the steps and get the same error message except the box heading is :

WMPAU.exe - Application error
With the same text as in quotes above.

I am really not knowledgeable about computers and I have tried a few things that forum pages have offered and none have been a fix.

Please offer me something that might actually work at fixiing this.....

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Bought a new Compaq with Vista Home Basic installed. Cable modem. AOL browser.
Audio: After working well for weeks, suddenly I cannot stream radio stations past the word READY.
Video: I get this message:
Windows MediaPlayer cannot play files because the specified protocol is not supported. If you typed an Url in the Open Url dialog box, try using a different transport protocol (for example,"http")

Of course I had typed nothing; just clicked Stream on the webpage, which always worked before. I do not understand a word of that message.
Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Hi,

We are having a problem on a Windows XP Pro SP2 machine running Windows media player 10. It says "this version of media player is incompatible" when you try and open it. We have tried removing version 10, and putting on 9 but you get the same problem. This happens if you download the install file from the website or install WMP from the WindowsUpdate site. Has anyone come across this before, or got any ideas on how to get WMP to work?

Thanks a lot,
Daniel Murfitt

I am using a new Dell laptop (Latitude 3540) and it seems to have a strange fault. When I play a DVD using WMP the laptop will not close down - there is no message about programmes that are open and there is nothing shown under applications in the task manager. I click on "shutdown, it goes through "logging off" to "shutting down" then just hangs.

This is further complicated by the fact that if I try and replicate the problem by part-playing a DVD (having first moved it towards the end so that just the last few minutes have played) then generally it will close down perfectly normally.

I am not a technical person but can generally resolve Windows issues by Googling around. With this problem I cannot seem to find anything anywhere that suggests a solution. Googling seems to produce problems with WMP not closing which is not the problem I have.

This issue is not life-threatening, just mildly irritating but I do not like to be beaten so I would be grateful for any thoughts.

First post so apologies if this is not the best forum for this query.

A:Laptop will not close down after using Windows Media Player

Have you tried using a different DVD player other than WMP to see if it makes any difference? Go to Free Software and Shareware - Tucows Downloads and download a different one.

A:Solved: I can't play DVD'S on my laptop even though I have windows media player?

Windows Media Player doesn't play MPEG-2 videos (DVD) by default.

You'll need to download the proper codec.

Here's a complete codec pack: K-Lite Codec Pack
Or, you can install the VLC player, which already includes that MPEG-2 codec.

I have windows 2000 pro and updated media player to 9. I used to be able to right click a file and choose "windows media player" which would be the older version, or "microsoft windows media player" which would be the newer 9 version.

I think the shortcut on my desktop to the new version was also the orange square with a triangle but maybe that is just on my winxp pc??

Something happened that changed my shortcuts to the circle icon of the older versions and now I get errors opening some video or if I try to listen to streaming media.

I tried removing, re-booting and reinstalling media player 9 twice but as soon as it finishes installation I get an error when it tries to open. It still works on some files but not others???

Any ideas how to restore media player?

Go to Start/Run and type appwiz.cpl and press enter. In the Add Remove Programs uninstall Windows Media Player. this will roll WiMP back to the previous version. (ex) if you have WiMP 11 it will roll back to 10. Restart and try it again. If this fails, then uninstall with Revo Uninstaller. Be sure to do the Advanced Method and remove related files in the Registry. Restart the computer. Now you can download the latest version of WiMP for XP.

The file wmploc.dll has a version number of 8.0.0.4477 where 10.0.0.3802 was expected.

Hello, I have a problem with playback of some videos using Windows Media Player 11...

The video (.avi) is compressed using the DivX Codec...I already have the latest version of DivX 6.80 installed in my computer...Whenever I try to play it on WMP 11, there will be an error message saying "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file"...I went to Web Help but it either says that I have a sound problem or that I do not have the correct codec installed. My sound works perfectly, and whenever I play the video, the sound is still able to play in the background, but no video appears. (the error message will appear of course)

I tried using GSpot to double check, but the codec (used to compress the video) is DivX too.

I realised something though...The codec of videos I couldn't play on Windows Media Player 11 was the DIV3 codec (Name: DivX 3 Low-Motion). Other videos compressed using Xvid and DivX worked perfectly on WMP 11.

I tried uninstalling the DivX bundle and reinstalling DivX 6.8 again, but it didn't work. Also, the DIV3 videos are still playable on players like VLC Player, so I doubt it's a codec problem.

Could it be that my WMP 11 is malfunctioning? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it too, but it didn't work as well.

And I hope that I've stated adequate information about the problem...So can anyone help me out?

Thanks a million! (;

I Get error code COODOFF1 when trying to create playlist in Windows Media Player.
The only way I can get around this problem is to take the User Account Control off. Is there any other fix to this ridiculous error?

My Windows Media Player recently stopped working. When trying to play video or audio I would receive the error message "%1 is not a valid Win32 application." I tried upgrading to WMP 10 and during the installation process got the error message "The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\msdmo.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette." This error was displayed 16 times and each time I would click "OK". Eventually the installation was completed but when trying to play a video or listen to music in Windows Media Player 10 I again received an error message that read "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Patrick

Hello & welcome to TSF ,

what you need to do is go to ( http://www.majorgeeks.com ) and get the K-Lite codec pack and install it, this will give you the codecs to read those files

it is free

Every time I run WMP 9 I get an error has occurred in the script on this page. It gives me a line number, error, code, URL, etc. The error code is c00d1329. Then it asks me if I want to continue. I also get a blank windows INTERNET explorer page with nothing on it. I use Windows XP edition. I did not have this problem before I updated to the new version. This is very annoying and I don't know how to fix it. It comes up when I try to select a song or video. If anyone can help me I would so greatly appreciate it.
