Solved: Can't reach an FTP site

Q: Solved: Can't reach an FTP site

I'm trying to reach a friend's FTP site and can't get any connection/response.

Direct FTP attempt: The operation "times out".
Pinging his IP address from CMD prompt: All attempts time out.
Tracert to his IP: It begins the trace process, but loses the route after about 4 hops.

I have placed his IP address in the excluded (allowed) sites in my firewall settings. I can't figure out what else may be preventing my connection. Any help?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This is bizarre.

I'm trying to persuade my browser to connect with www.piratour.net. It times out and fails to find it.

I try on my phone using the home wi-fi - same result.

I switch off my phone wi-fi and try with data. Success!

This happens on the PC with both Firefox and Edge.

I open a command window and try ping www.piratour.net. Nothing, however the screen tells me immediately that the ip address is 167.250.5.29 .

I have spent quality time with my ISP (Plusnet in the UK). The man tried that address from his own machine - no success.

I have tried changing the DNS servers (my idea). No luck.

The fact that the service guy also couldn't reach it suggests that the problem is somewhere way outside my setup.

I would appreciate any thoughts.

For some reason, I am unable to reach Ann Coulter - Official Home Page on my computer. It's been several weeks since I was last able to visit the site. The problem happens in every browser I have, including recent or current versions of Firefox, IE, Opera and Chrome. I can reach any other website I try to get to just fine. I never used to have any trouble reaching that website until about a month ago. No one else uses this computer and I live alone.

It appears that I've blocked that one site but I'm darned if I can figure out how.

Here's what I've tried so far:
1. Run Avast Free Antivirus with the latest version of the program and definitions. Results: no threats found with either the quick scan or the full scan.
2 Run Malware Bytes with the latest definitions. Results: Results: two threats found and removed but I still can't reach the Coulter website.
3. Checked my Hosts file. Results: nothing there is blocking any website.
4. Checked my router settings. Can't see any blocks there.
5. Had other people try to access the site; they were successful.
6. Googled and found one other forum where someone was having the same problem with respect to the Coulter website. But his problem apparently went away two weeks ago. He didn't indicate if he had done anything to make it go away.
7. Checked the Windows Event logs but can't see anything there reflecting my problem.

Can anyone suggest anything else I can check?

To use some features on the Nascar.com web site, you need to log in through https://secure.audience.nascar.com. Problem is, the site can't be reached or pinged. Increasing ping time generates nothing but timeout errors. Something in the computer is blocking it from reaching that web address, whether it's entered as a name or a numeric address. This problem happens with four different web browsers - IE8, Firefox 3, Chrome and Safari.

It's a Gateway laptop with Vista SP1. It happens with a LAN connection. WiFi and Ev-Do. The web address is available on one machine with an identical WiFi link but not with the Gateway laptop.

Here are some of the attempts to solve the problem that have failed:

Resetting TCP/IP stack.
Switching DNS server.
Removing Norton Internet Security 2008.
Shutting down Windows Defender.
Running the computer with no firewall.
Removing and reinstalling network adapters and reinstalling drivers.
Running Vista in safe mode with networking.
Removing all temporary files and history.
Adding the domain to the IE trusted sites list.

The secure.audience.nascar.com address and the nascar.com domain are not blocked in the Hosts list.

NASCAR tech support has no idea what's going on.
Several checks of other web sites and Microsoft's online support on problems with accessing https secure sites have turned up no problems with accessing that site.

The Gateway has no trouble accessing several other https secure sites, but can not reach secure.a... Read more

I am using a NetGear RP614 v1 router to share a cable network connection to the Internet. We need to connect to the web site of out local school system, (ip = 168.31.104.246). We cannot see any pages from this domain if the router is connected, however everything is OK if we connect any of our computers to the cable modem. The router is not set up to block any sites. I have reduced the maximum packet size from 1500 to 1400 to 1300 bytes, but no change in connectivity has happened. Any ideas wher to look?
The DNS servers listed by the router are correct, and I still cannot connect if I enter the IP address rather than the URL.

There are computers on the lan running Win 95, Win98, WinXP and all see the same thing. We are using a Motorola SurfBoard SB5100.

A:Can't reach a known good web site when using router.

You can not access your own IP, if that is the IP-number in your router.
Just use http://www.forsyth.k12.ga.us/ and all should be fine.

Hi guys!!  Boy, I hope you can help me because I am about to pull my hair out over this one.

I think I got infected with some virus called HEU_AEGIS_HttpDownloader blah blah a month back.  I think this because it came up in my AV (Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security).  The AV did its thing and I guess cleaned the virus or removed it.  It no longer shows up.  During this time, I also received about a dozen of other warnings about a suspicious file which Trend deleted whenever it showed up.  It was always found at: C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\***.tmp.exe (the *** would always be some random letters and numbers).  This virus and ***.tmp.exe file no longer shows up.  However...

Since that virus popped up (and these two things may not be related) I keep getting a web threat listed in Trend Micro which shows a web threat which happens about twice every hour.  It says it 'blocked' a web threat to website address 176.9.##.###/ip.php

I have checked my services, msconfig start up settings, registry, and even a complete search on my hard drive for that IP (which I partially masked on purpose).  Nothing can find it.

I tried running full scans of Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security, Ad Aware, MalwareBytes, and Super AntiMalware.  All of them say my machine is clean.

I even tried using my earliest system restore point, and that did not rid me of these constant web threats.

A:HEU_AEGIS, computer keeps trying to reach a suspicious site

I believe I found the cause of this issue.  A rootkit was hiding itself pretty well.  Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Trend Micro Titanium, and Ad Aware could not find it.  I finally tried Kaspersky's TDSSKiller and it found and deleted an .exe file and registry entry it said was a high risk.  Since it removed the file, I have had no web threats in the past 24 hours.

Here is the text of the infected file TDSSKiller reported and removed:

UDS:DangerousObject.Multi.Generic
File: C:\Document and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\SystemCache\6.0\25\winhlp32.exe
Malware object, high risk

If anyone else is experiencing a constant barage of web threats being blocked and can't find the cause; be sure to try TDSSKiller.

So recently my external harddrive was dropped and died. I had Steam installed on it, but since it's dead, I wanted to reinstall in onto my normal drive. Well, when I went to try, it gave me an error because it couldn't find it in H drive. And I can't uninstall it, because the add and remove programs wizard gives me an error because it can't locate it. What do I do?

A:Solved: Uninstalling from something I can't reach.

Sounds like you have no option except to manually delete any folders/files associated with the program from your C:\ drive (there shouldn't be much if the prog was installed on the external drive) and edit the registry. Tricky business if you are not experienced with such things.

If you should be tempteted to do so, be very sure to do a backup of your registry before doing anything. You can learn about backing up the registry here.

Good Luck... Raybro

I use Windows XP Pro and Office Outlook 2003 with all the updates.

When I send a email to a certain btopenworld.com address it does reach the recipient.

Any ideas on how to solve this mystery would be very greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Stuart

A:Solved: Email does not reach recipient

It may have more to do with the recipient's setup than yours. Possibly something in your mail or your ISP is flagged as spam and being removed. Are the ISP's different among these 3 locations?

Ask the recipient to add your address to their email program's address book to see if you can prevent it from being filtered.

I have inadvertently ran a malicious programme - how do I know it is malicious? The moment it runs it attempts to make a number of changes to the registry which I promptly denied (I have Spybot's Teatimer running). I ran a full scan with McAfee, AVG and Swatit which removed a number of trojans. All seems fine now except that ZoneAlarm alerts me that winlogon is trying to connect to an IP which I found out is in the Ukraine. I never had the prompt before, i.e. in my years of using Windows 2000 never once did winlogon.exe ever ask for internet access. I know winlogon.exe is a legit windows program, but judging from the destination, I suspect winlogon.exe has been infected, somehow. Repeated scans found nothing, and winlogon still insists on connecting to that particular IP address in Ukraine.

I am thinking I should restore winlogon.exe from my Windows 2000 SP4 CD (I'm running that OS). Problem is, I don't quite know how - anyone? And is this the sensible step?

Hello all,

I have a Belkin N150 Enhanced Wireless Router, my internet is dynamic cable modem, and I have two computers; one running XP and the other Windows 7.

On initial plug in, it was working. It was plugged motorola cable modem/belkin/windows 7 comp. I did the IPCONFIG, I ran the Setup Assistant, and I guess I entered the wrong information because the internet stopped working. So I had another go at it, and still wouldn't work. Third time, Setup Assistant tells me that it cannot detect the connection between the computer and router. It tells me to make sure everything is plugged. I haven't touched a bloody thing. All lights are green on router.

I tried to access the settings through 192.168.2.1 and other consecutive numbers, to see if I can reset to factory settings. My browser tells me I got nothing! I've tried on Chrome, IE, and Firefox. I've done the hard reset, lights go off and then back on green - one by one. Nothing.

I've googled the crap out of this issue (and browsed through this forum), and I'm almost down to return it. I have contacted Belkin through their tech support email, and haven't heard a response.

I connected it to my XP comp (which is not connected to the internet, because at this point my concern is accessing the router settings) and IPCONFIG says;

I've been having this problem every few days. I have 2 monitors connected to Nvidia 9800 GT, and after leaving the computer for several hours, I'll return and the monitors won't turn back on with a mouse move or key pressed. Today i found that I could still browse it with another computer and transfer a file to it.

So I tried cmd shutdown -i to reboot it remotely. The command was accepted, but the computer didn't restart. It seems like it tried to, but couldn't complete it, because it's not connected to the network anymore.

I have the lastest drivers installed, and that didn't fix it. Latest Win 7 x64 updates installed. On program that may be relevant is a webcam surveillance program I always have running. It should have been recording (if the computer was indeed working fine under the blank monitors), but when browsing via network, none of the recording files were created for the day.

So it seems somethign is happening with video card, drivers or this program that breaks all video on the computer, but keeps it running.

I'm not sure how to isolate the problem further.

You don't have to have an "original" XP Installation disk, but you are going to need one. First, to run chkdsk, many times these files go missing due to hard drive errors, and also you'll need a source for the replacement file. There may be more than one of them missing.

I have three coax connections. In one of the coax connection I have my router from Fios connected LNQMI424WRI. I also have another router LNQMI424WRF from Fios that I don't use and is apparently weaker. I have several questions.

Could I use the 2nd fios router and connect it to any of the coax connector and then connect my Cat5 cable to the router and then connect it to my desktop?

Also if that doesn't work could I use the 2nd router from Fios and plug it into the coax connection and then have it be a wireless repeater or just plug in the cat5 cable?

Could I also buy a stronger gaming router and unplug my current router "'WRI and then just plug it and everything works?

Could a modem be plugged into the coax connection and then connect it to the cat5 from there?

Also what is the difference between modem and router?

1. I boot up computer
2. Computer gets all the way to loading bar
3. Quick Blue screen appears
4. BAM computer reboots endless cycle

Now I've made myself a winxp recovery cd (never had one in the first place) and have tried various commands to bring my computer to a working state to no avail

chkdsk and chkdsk /r return with something like "the system has unrecoverable errors"

bootcfg /rebuild returns with something about a problem with the file system and says to run chkdsk lol

I also tried a command to rebuild the boot.ini but it failed to...

I have been successful at getting windows PE to run by booting to cd drive

I tried chkdsk from there and still no good.

Safe mode returns the same results btw so thats out of the question.

ONE TIME I was able to start up windows in something like directory services mode but im not quite sure how :/ It just decided to show up on the menu with boot options on a try.

I've got like 40gigs of backed up data on there that I was *hoping* not to lose so this really pisses me off.

Also when I did get into windows that ONE time I sy... Read more

I'm wondering how to make the wireless signal from my ATT-provided 2-Wire Gateway reach further in my house. It currently shows 4 bars on my son's Mac laptop when he is in the same room with the Gateway, but when he walks back to his room, he loses the connection. I'm aware that there are devices you can buy to extend the signal, but i would like some advice about what to get and how difficult they might be to set up.

I'm having trouble reaching both Safer-networking.org and Malwarebytes.org. When I try to connect using any of the 4 computers in my home, I get a broken link page. If I VPN to my school's network, I can then access either of the two pages. I've found a similar problem in another thread http://forums.techguy.org/general-security/663609-solved-spybot-search-destroy-site.html. In that thread the original poster did a traceroute and found a bad hop and contacted the the site's tech people to resolve the problem. Ok. I've recently tried replacing the generic PSU that came with my computer (Advent PQD5002) with a Corsair VX450W, which is supposed to be (I think?) a fairly reliable PSU brand, in readiness for attaching a new graphics card to the motherboard.

However, when I tried fitting it, the computer refused to start up. However, the light at the front of the tower lit up, and the lights on the keyboard started flashing. This seems to suggest that it was delivering power, but the monitor didn't show any change, and the mouse didn't respond.

I'm fairly sure all the cables were attached properly, although a friend who has built many computers before is coming over tomorrow to check them. Is there anything else that could be causing this? Hopefully the PSU isn't broken already...

I am looking for some options for my business when it comes to VPN. I have 13 retail locations and 1 corporate office that currently is connected via Sonicwall site2site vpn. I want to move away from the Sonicwall VPN and go to another solution where I can have a reliable VPN that is always on.

Right now I don't have a Domain Controller but I want to install one soon with Windows Server 2012 at my corporate office. I want to have more control over my PCs in my stores (about 10 PCs in one store). My issue is that when my corporate office's power goes out or our T1 is down the other users on the VPN at the retail sites will not be able to connect to the DC and wont be able to log into their workstation.

What options do I have so my sites can always have connection to the DC? Do I look at hosted solutions? Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thank you!

A:Solved: Need some guidence on Site to Site VPN

Why are you looking to move away from your SonicWall solution? If you want the VPN tunnel to automatically re-establish or bring the tunnel back up when it drops, you can configure the firewall to use "Keep Alives".

With regards to users at the retail sites not being able to log in to their PCs without the DC available, it sounds like a problem with how you've set up the PCs. The PCs should have a local/cached profile saved on the said PC in the event the DC is not available. My corporate laptop operates this way as I am a remote worker and I don't have connectivity to my corporate DC until I log in and launch the SSL VPN client.

Hi All.
I hope somebody has a cheap solution for me. I have a Canon Pixma MP530 printer - excellent machine. But it has no network support or slot for a card. Now it has to move 10meters away from the PC, so the USB connection is beyond limits.
Is there a way I can get around this without spending a lot of money?
Any suggestions much appreciated.
Cheers.
Martin.

A USB repeater should work for you if you can run a physical line to the printer. It looks and works as shown on the following page, http://www.usbgear.com/USB_Repeater_Cable/

I have setup a Site-to-Site VPN using Sophos UTM at each end. I set up an Ubuntu VM as a WINS Server using Samba.

So far so good. VPN Works.

My problem is with the WINS Server. I have taken two Windows 10 computers and for both of them added the IP of the WINS server under Advanced TCP/IP Settings and changed NetBIOS to Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP.

The results are close but not quite right. The two computers with the modified settings can now ping each other using computer name rather than IP. Other computers on each end of the VPN can not do that.

That said neither computer shows up in the Networks of the other. This is what I am trying to fix.

It appears that name resolution is working for the computers that check in with the WINS server but that the Windows 10 browsing service is not adding those computers to the network.

The LANs are 192.168.2.0/24 and 10.1.1.0/24 the WINS server is on 192.168.2.0/24 and it comes back as __MSBROWSE__ for that network. For 10.1.1.0/24 the computer that connects to the WINS server is showing __MSBROWSE__ when I check with nbtstat.

When I check services Computer Browser is running.

Can someone help me or at least point me in the right direction? This really shouldn't be this hard so I feel like I'm missing something obvious.

Dear Friend,
I am Anil from India. I have recently joined the forum after struggling for a week to stablise my unstable PC. I used to have some Anti Virus software on my pc before few years. But since last few years I was not having any AV software as this PC was not being used for surfing etc.
Since I started to use it again for surfing, downloading etc., I wanted to instal avast AV software. I installed it from some recent installer file with me. But when it tried to update the virus database, I got the message that "can't connect to server". Then I tried to open avast.com. But I again got the error message "The page cannot be displayed". Then I uninstalled the avast and tried to open other antivirus sites like norton, mcafee, avg etc., but all failed.
Then I tried to update my system using automatoc update utility. But again failed. microsoft.com also failed to open.
I use GPRS connection through cellular connection to browse the network.
Now I have downloaded and installed Hijack This.

Hello all,

Good to join this forum

Anyway, Please can someone support me regarding connecting a Windows Server 2008 standard that needs to connect to another Windows server in another country outside of UK (Site B). The ports 1433 and 3030 are also open in the firewall and also the Draytek 2830n router, therefore I can see the ports open via yougetsignal.com. We have 1 public (Static) IP address from BT that is already in the Draytek router on Site A (UK).

How is the simplest or easiest way to connect these 2 Window servers so a management program that uses MySQL Database server can talk to the Site B server or vice-versa) Both sites have a Public IP address.

Can this be done by the WIndows firewall inbound rules / outbound rules where the port 1433 is set. There is an option to enter a Remote IP address under 'scope' which I assume is the Site B's public IP address within the inbound firewall properties.

The other way is the VPN on the Draytek 2830n. There is an option for Lan to Lan using IPSec but not sure the best settings for Dial-out or Dial-in. There is usernames and passwords that not sure of including the Remote gateway or Remote IP to use

We have 2 different routers on Site A and Site B are not the same.

Thanks Guys

Hi Guys,

I've done a fair amount of googling before referring myself to W10 Forums.. I hope this helps someone else in the process. Since rolling out Windows 10 we've noticed users are having difficulty accessing their personal user data drives, via File Explorer. Let me make a scenario which is understandable.

In Site 1 (HQ), we can connect to the file server (e.g access 1FS without any issues- Where user data is stored)
In the remote site (Site 2), we can do the same (e.g 2FS)

At our HQ, when running Windows 7, we are able to File Explore to 2FS but since the upgrade we're unable to. This occurs both ways.

We can ping our servers, and remote desktop.

Server infrastructure:
VMWare ESX 5
File servers in question are Windows Server 2008
ONLY Windows server 2008 R2 servers have the issue, (2008 Standard edition is fine) all patches have been applied via WSUS.

Can anybody shed any light on this?

Thanks in advance,

IT Apprentice

Hi, I'm a complete network newb, but am helping out a Montessori school with their issues. Hopefully someone can help.
Site A has the main WAN link coming in to a Cisco 1841 router, then going to a Sonicwall appliance, then to a 24 port unmanaged switch.
There is also a point to point link to site B. This has another Cisco 1841 router on each end of the link. At site A, it's also plugged into the 24 port switch, and plugged into another 24 port switch at site B. There is a DC with DNS and DHCP at site A, and a DHCP server at Site B. Site A's IP achema is 192.168.1.x, and site B is 192.168.2.x, with subnet masks of 255.255.255.0. The circuit sides of the point to point connection is 10.0.0.1 & 2.
The problem they've been having for the last month or so is that the connection at site B would drop all together, or be very slow and sporadic. Yesterday, I tried downloading a 4mb file from the internet, and couldn't get the whole thing, even after trying for an hour, it kept timing out.
Downloading the same file from site A, I was done in 20 seconds.

Here's the wierd part. If I do a tracert from site A to site B's server, it sometimes works, meaning it'll trace in a couple hops to the server. When it doesn't, it tries to route out over the internet, with the first hop being a 162.42 address, which is the service provider.

Century Link says the point-to-point T1 circuit is fine, but am reaching out to see if anyone can give me a hand... Read more

I may not have this under the correct section and please keep in mind that I am not a programmer but here goes.

I am trying to add a hyperlink in Outlook 2007 signature file that will open a child site, but the child site seems to need some personalized information in the cache that comes from opening a parent site first:

Parent site: http://www.mywildtree.com/chad/
Child Site: http://www.mywildtree.com/shop/catalog.aspx

When the child site is opened directly (without opening parent first) it loads forever. The parent site does not require any authenication it just has to be opened first and then the child site operates correctly.

Is there a simple way to have one hyperlink either a) open two sites one after the other in the same window? or b) open the childsite with a parent site dependancy (tag?, bookmark?) on the hyperlink?

I have been on google searching all afternoon and haven't had any luck yet so any help is appreciated.

Thank you

A:Hyperlink syntax to open a parent site and then child site

Welcome to Seven Forums chadseeg. The Shop Now link shows as actually being http://www.mywildtree.com/shop/preshop.aspx, and this appears to redirect to http://www.mywildtree.com/shop/catalog.aspx.

Firefox blames the redirection

It looks like the script on the page is written to specifically prevent going directly to the shopping catalog without going through the home page. I'm not a webmaster, so I am unsure if this is intentional or not. A Guy

I tried Hijack this, but for some reason highjackthis.de is not giving me any results when I try to analyze the log.

Could you please try and help? The situation is impossible...

Dell 620
WinXP SP2
Internet Explorer
Norton AV corporate
