I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Community Experts I have an Lenovo Yoga 12", which I'm not sure if it has the thunderbolt 3 connection(which on my understanding of eGPUS is the only viable connector). And I want to run a eGPU on this laptop, can I do the connection with an eGPU using this laptop? Is this possible? If not, can I upgrade my graphics performance somehow? Looking foward for any help!

I have recently purchased a YOGA 920 and a HP Omen egpu enclosure. I am having problem connecting it to my laptop.

First, I tried both port, there's the sound of connect and disconnect, and nothing shows on the laptop, and the laptop is not charging.

I have tried with power cable connected, and now it was connected. The egpu still was not charging (no power delivery), and it only works one port 2 (port closer to touch pad) with charger connected to port 1. If I switch them, the laptop goes blue scree. I can remove the power after it is connected but then there is no power supply.

It is kind of similar to the issue as MrKnowNothing https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/YOGA-920-Thunderbolt-3-Port-No-devices-fou....

I have tried different drivers but all of them do not work. I have updated BIOS and Type-C firmware from Lenovo to the most recent version.

One more thing. Is it normal that thunderbolt controller is not showing up in device manager when nothing is connected?

I have tried it with my friend?s xps, it works perfectly, basically plug and play.

I think it is not supposed to work like this and the egpu should have power delivery to my laptop. Even if there is no power delivery, it should still connect without power adapter connected. Is this hardware problem or driver problem? Is there anyone else have similar problems?

Thanks!

Hi alls,I'm aware of this thread and several reviewers on the net about eGPU, plus some highly praises for this AORUS Gaming Box.Initially, I was not interested in the subject of eGPU, as I'm not a gamer. So, eGPU would be a waste of money, at excessive high cost, and not necessary for this high-end Yoga 920.But . . . when I tried processing some videos, the GPU usage in Task Manager stayed upward in the 98% high. Too bad, that I do this task often.Hence, I wish to start this thread, with some initial (perhaps naive) questions as follows:. Does it harm the laptop to be in high GPU usage in long term ?. If a hardware change is needed, is there a solution with more reasonable cost ? and small size for portability ?Looking forward to see many great debates. Thanks.

The laptop has 65W adapter so the gaming box should provide more than enough power. I have tried all three versions of firmware fom gigabyte with no luck. The laptop charges normaly with suplied lenovo charger. The latop has two thunderbolt ports and if I connect the gaming box and the normal charger the laptop still wont charge, if I then disconnect the gaing box leaving only the lenovo charger the laptop starts charging again.

Brand new X1 Yoga 3rd Gen with i7 8650 and Win 10 Pro - "Known good" Aorus 1070 eGPU box (and factory TB3 cable that might be 18" long. I have been using the Aorus1070 with my Dell XPS 15 but the 2 lanes of PCIe on my XPS warranted an upgrade. I really like the X1 Yoga and want to jump ship from Dell to Lenovo but not if the eGPU issues cant be fixed.(I haven't owned/used an IBM laptop since back in 2000 when it was still IBM) Issue 1 - eGPU won't power on.Issue 2 - Computer freezes (with or without BSOD)Issue 3 - False charging (not the common issue)Issue 4 - Mouse freeze  Issue 1 - The Aorus box has no power switch and should automatically turn on when the computer turns on. The Aorus box will only power on around 1 out of 5 restarts/power-ons. When the laptop is up and running I can try unplugging and plugging in the TB3 cable and maybe 1 in 10 attemps prompts the Aorus box to power on. Most of the attempts to plug in the Aorus box while the laptop is powered on results in an instant BSOD. Issue 2 - Whenever the 1 in 20 attemps to power on the Aorus box is successful and I can use the eGPU I can sometimes get anywhere from 2-4 hours of gameplay out of it before freezes - Sometimes there will be a BSOD but other times the image is just frozen and the last 0.5 second of audio re-re-re-re-re-re-re-peats until I hard kill the laptop. Issue 3- The charging issue is not the one that google loves to show me when I search for it. It's not the "plugg... Read more

Hi everyone I want to order a thinkpad x1 laptop that I can sometime use with an eGPU for gaming. I kinda favor the X1 yoga but heard that X1 Yoga is more prone to thermal throttling and heating than X1 carbon. Anyway, if anyone  already tried gaming on X1 yoga (6th gen) with an egpu, would you mind sharing your experience with me (especially in term of thermal throttling and heating). Thanks

To be honest, T480s would be even better, as according to tests, it's able to utilize CPU fully, thanks to good cooling system (make sure to get iGPU-only version though). And thanks to undervolting, you'll be able to elimimate throttling under prolonged load. You'll find more information in article below (both X1's were also tested): https://www.notebookcheck.net/A-performance-comparison-of-all-new-ThinkPad-notebooks.286486.0.html

So I know the eGPU doesn't produce sufficient power to power the laptop(it does 30w, when the laptop wants 45 or 60w), but I don't understand why that'd potentially cause crashing. To clarify crashing still happens when I plug it into the thunderbolt 3 non-power port as well., I have gotten it to work SOME TIMES(enough to install Nvidia drivers, and the eGPU enclosure drivers), but most of the time it just crashes my system. And it happens almost immediately after plugging the egpu in. For further clarification, my Dell XPS 13(with far inferior specs... 4gb ram, 8250u), has no issues with the eGPU enclosure and works perfectly with it. I'd just obviously rather use the eGPU with the more powerful cpu and more ram... 4gb is rather restrictive, but that laptop serves the purpose as a travel theater anyways(good screen for movies, not so bad headphone dac, and with the 8250u an amazing battery life). Specs:X1 Yoga 3rd gen with 8650U & 16gb of ram, 1440p hdr displayOMEN Accelerator with ASUS GTX 1080 Strix

I'm in the market for a new laptop- and I'm in love with the Yoga 920. As a digital artist and architecture student everything looks like what I would want in a computer. I showed the specs to my advisor and he says it's a "no-go" because it has an integrated graphics card. That the computer would be unstable in the long run without a dedicated one. I don't really game on my computer- but I'd need something that could render 3D elements and potentially allow me to do VR walkthroughs. For me the wacoom tech screen for drawing is what's really selling it to me and I can't seem to find the best of both worlds. I thought about just buying a gaming laptop and then getting a cintiq to satisfy that aspect for me but I'd be dropping $2000-$3500 on the low end- which is quite a bit more than the prices I was looking at for just the Yoga Does anyone know if I can get a Yoga 920 with a dedicated driver or if it's compatible with an eGPU? I'm worried that an eGPU might affect the stability by plugging it in and out.

I bought this device to use it in the future with eGPU, as I did my research has plenty of CPU power and all the right TB3 confing that it should. So the future is now and I am disappointed, because the only thing missing is charging it right. I have some other issues with my battery right now but not sure if this has something to do with this one. I got a ASUS XG station Pro and nVidia GTX 1070.Asus has 330W power supply built in. 1070 eats up to 150W, so seems there is plenty of power left. When eGPU is connected I can play for 2 hours - than battery is on critical. So **bleep**?  Is the TB3 functionality implemented or not? Can lenovo cherry pick functions they want to add and decided to skip Power Delivery standard over TB3? This is what I read on eGPU forum, but this was in regards to 15in version, not the 13 one. I installed all the drivers 2 times over as well as updated eGPU firmware. Is there a solution for this? Was it working on previous BIOS versions? Can someone share old ones?

I've had my x1 yoga 3rd gen for about a year now, and love it. I've been using a thunderbolt 3 eGPU dock (aorus 1070 gaming box) as a dock for about the same amount of time now, since it gives me the convenience power and portability. Other than the occasional visual glitches and restarts, I haven't had any issues when I unplug my laptop from the eGPU dock, or plugging it in. However, yesterday after I unplugged my laptop from the eGPU dock, my laptop kept making a "connected USB" and "disconnected USB" sound. It looked like my Thunderbolt 3 software app kept crashing and rebooting. I also noticed that none of my usb c/thunderbolt 3 ports were working; the laptop says it's charging with nothing plugged in, and when I tried plugging in a charger, it wouldn't charge. The only solution I found was to disable Thunderbolt 3 in the BIOS, but I'm not sure if this is a software issue, or if there's a part of my motherboard that's fried. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for troubleshooting?

I have a brand new Yoga 730-15IWL, unboxed, fully updated via Windows Update, and manually installed drivers using Lenovo System Update and Windows Update (Device Manager). I also have an Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti connected to a Sonnet Breakaway Box 650 (the 650 is the wattage of the PSU). After connecting the eGPU and installing the latest Nvidia drivers, my system periodically experiences a permanent "hard lock" that can only be solved by power cycling the system. The mouse cursor, keyboard and screen all stop responding forever until power cycled. Out of the box, I was using the latest 17.x Thunderbolt driver series (non-DCH). I upgraded my Thunderbolt driver to DCH. My Intel IGP and Nvidia graphics driver are both DCH now, as well as the Thunderbolt driver. But the problem still persists. The DCH drivers for the IGP and Nvidia card were automatically installed; I did not choose DCH specifically. The Thunderbolt controller is PCI ID 15BF, and NVM version 11. Is there a newer NVM available for the 15BF? Out of curiosity, I tried the ThinkPad T480 firmware package for the 15BF, and it failed saying the PM driver is not loaded. I assume I can't install the power management driver in question because the Yoga 730 doesn't have the same PM chip as the ThinkPad T480. Anything else I can do to troubleshoot this? I'm 99.9% sure this isn't the eGPU or Nvidia card, because they work fine (no stability issues) when attached to a 2018 Razer Blade 15.

I have recently purchased a 6th gen x1 carbon. It is the model with a 512gb ssd and 16gb of ram. I am planning a setup for my dorm room that definitely could use some work. There are a lot of peripherals going into this so bear with me. My main question through explaining this is if there is a way to streamline the setup and make it more cost efficient.  I am planning to major buys with this setup, the thinkpad ultradock and an Egpu. Regarding the Egpu, it will be a GTX 1070 mounted in a Razor Core V1. My question is I feel like having both the dock and core is unnecessary. I ideally would like to come into my room and put my X1 straight into the dock, which will be closed and probably upright next to the Egpu. Where I see the problem is that I could just as easily do the setup without the dock and instead plug the Egpu into the TB3 port every time I get home, and simply have the peripherals connected to the Egpu housing. One of the pieces that is making me question the setup is I also intend to have an external SSD that will stay in my room with the Egpu and will store my video games to save space on the internal drive for classes and regular programs. I have been told that the SSD and Egpu cannot share the same port as there would not be enough bandwidth to support the two for how I intend to use it, mostly gaming. So here are a couple questions I would like answered. 1. Should I even bother with the Ultra Dock if I am getting the EGPU2. What would be th... Read more

Hello, after having problems connecting the X1 Extreme notebook to the Thunderbolt 3 WorkStation Dock (230W) (didn't charge the notebook) and Lenovo not offering an acceptable solution I decided to use a EGPU (Razer Core X Chroma with Nvidia GTX 1070). Now I have the problem, that the notebook freezes when booting with connected egpu at the bios screen. The extern monitor is activated and becomes white. I have changed the thunderbolt activation settings in the bios without success. When connecting it after windows is booted the system is also freezed. This may be a windows/nvidia driver issue, but not the freeze at the bios screen.I have uninstalled the NVidia driver with DDU and installed the newest NVidia drivers. The notebook drivers are also up to date (checked via Vantage). I'm getting the egpu working most times by connecting it just at the end of the bios boot screen sequence. Nevertheless I would like to get the notebook finally working properly. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hello, I'm fairly new to the forums as well as building computers. I currently use a Lenovo Ideapad V570 and would like to play games that require a better graphics card other than the Intel (R) HD Graphics 3000. The game I would like to try and play is a new game called Overwatch, that can be run by these cards. Reading other posts/forums/articles, I know that I need a graphics card, bplus board, and psu. But I don't know what to buy with a $400~500 budget and whether it'll work with my laptop. I would like to have some suggestions about which affordable components to get for the GPU. For the graphics card, I am honestly okay with anything as long as I can play Overwatch on it (it just looks so good to play haha...) Thank you!

I knocked together an eGPU for my Thinkpad Yoga 370 today with an AKiTiO Node, a NVidia GTX 1050 and a thunderbolt 3 cable.it was all literally plug & play. Spent:  Node eGPU box $240, Refurb NVidia 1050 card, $135, spare thunderbolt cable, $25, upgraded RAM to 16GB DDR4, $160. Put it all together, plugged in T3 cable from PC to Node Box, HDMI from Node box to Lenovo 4K monitior.  Windows recognized new GPU and I loaded the drivers from NVidia.  Windows users the eGPU to drive the external monitor at 2560x1440, Intel integrated GPU drives the laptop panel at the same time.  Works as advertised, no issues.   I tested the setup by rendering video with Corel Video Studio Pro 2018 and the eGPU doesn't even breathe hard.  Ran DCS world (combat flight sim) on Steam (which wouldn't even load prior) and it works flawlessly on high graphics settings.  I'm a terrible pilot, but the visuals are pretty amazing. If you have any questions let me know but this was super easy. Pictures at this link: https://photos.app.goo.gl/kJP4LXCXcxwyXBAC2
