Windows 2012 Verification of prerequisites for Domain Controller promotion failed

Q: Windows 2012 Verification of prerequisites for Domain Controller promotion failed

Windows 2012 Verification of prerequisites for Domain Controller promotion failed and gave the below error(In computer management local group and user option is not there as suggested by a solution!)

"Verification of prerequisites for Domain Controller promotion failed. The local Administrator account becomes the domain Administrator account when you create a new domain. The new domain cannot be created because the local Administrator account password
does not meet requirements.

Currently, the local Administrator password is blank, which might lead to security issues. We recommend that you press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, use the net user command-line tool, or use Local Users and Groups to set a strong password for the local Administrator
account before you create the new domain."

Preferred Solution: Windows 2012 Verification of prerequisites for Domain Controller promotion failed

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So i had a test environment where i was playing around with Active Directory and Child Domains. I have a domain and i created a child domain under that domain on an old server. Well it just so happened that the server had a serious hardware error and no longer runs.

How do i go about removing the child domain from the main domain controller? It is continuously filling up the Directory Service log because AD can't find and communicate with the failed child domain.

How do i remove it without having the failed server up. If it were up i could easy demote it but that server is toast.

Does anyone have any information on it? I have searched the web a bit and i haven't had much luck finding what i was looking for.

thanks everyone

A:Removing Failed Child Domain Controller

Here are MS instructions to manually remove a server from the AD:

It can be a little nerve racking if your not comfortable with console based commands; but I've done it on a couple of networks with great results. Best advice: ghost/image the server before you start... just in case.

I manage the computers at my wife's small medical practice, and things have been running just fine for years. Our EMR (electronic medical records) software vendor insisted I promote my server to a domain for reasons I don't understand, but I did it, and now I'm faced with a steep learning curve and a few small crises. I have several very thick books on the subject, but haven't found the right chapters yet. We're deep in the boondocks, so there's no help available within 100s of miles.

In a nutshell, I'm trying to migrate all the user settings that get lost when the user logs into the domain instead of the local computer. I've brute forced the desktop by just copying files from "user/desktop" to "user.DOMAIN/desktop", although it required a lot of logging in and out between the local computer and the domain to deal with access problems. I just can't figure out how to grant access privileges to the local folders to the domain user.

Anyway, the same brute force method, when applied to "favorites" doesn't seem to work. After copying the files (as local user), and switching to the domain user, the shortcuts look proper. But the browser (IE) won't recognize them as internet shortcuts ("No destination found").

What am I missing? If I can just get these small problems solved, I can sit down and eductae myself.

A:Post DOMAIN promotion headaches

First off, is it critical that these users be able to work at different workstation or a single workstation? Roaming profiles are nice, but they are a hard drive space resource hog if users store everything in My Docs, Desktop, etc. They can also be a problem with propagating virus across your network and cleaning the virus.

Anyway, as long as the users have accounts in AD, set up a share on the server that everyone has full access rights to for storing the profiles. Go into AD and olen the user account and go to the profile tab and enter the profile path UNC name to the share you just created like this \\servername\sharename\%username% and it should create the folder on the share with the username for the foldder. Once the user logs in the profile should synch to the server.

actually I want to update IE9 to IE11 on all machines via SCCM 2012.
Therefore I built a package with IEAK 11 and integrated all IE11 prerequisite updates (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2847882) to install before IE11 is installed (altogether 9 updates).

Afterwards I deployed the Full installation package (MSI) with SCCM 2012.
On some test machines the installation works just fine (silent). After a restart at the end of the installation updates are configured and the next time IE11 starts.

On one machine the installation stopped because of the following error (from IE11_main.log):

02:15.690: ERROR:   Error downloading prerequisite file (KB2729094): 0x800b0109 (2148204809)?

At this point I wondered why this prerequisite update (KB2729094) should be downloaded, becuase I already integrated it with IEAK11!!!??? And also when I examine the IE11_main.log I can see that there are still other updates that seem to be downloaded even
if I integrated them into the IEAK11/Full installation package in order to be independent of prerequisite downloads!!! Attached the full IE11_main-log:

I've been trying to join a new Windows 7 Professional machine to a domain controller running Windows 2003 Server with no luck.  We currently have 4 Windows XP machines running on that domain without any issues, but when I try to add the Windows 7 computer,
here is what happens:

A computer account on the domain could not be found (confirmed it is already there)
I put in the computer name and domain again, and Administrator credentialsNow it tells me: "An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a DC in the domain being joined has failed."
I currently have DNS on the Windows 7 PC set to the Domain Controller and have IPv6 unchecked under Network Properties.  I can even ping the domain name (resolves to IP of the domain controller).  It looks like it can, indeed, find the domain from
the message in step 1, so am I missing something here?
Thanks in advance for any help!

A:Cannot join Windows 7 to domain even after setting DNS to domain controller IP

You need flush your DNS cache in client side first.
Then, let?s create the following registry value for a try:
 - Created a DWORD DomainCompatibilityMode = 1
 - Created a DWORD DNSNameResolutionRequired = 0

Hello everyone. I really hope that you can help me. You are my last hope.

I maintain about 30 domain computers. Recently when users try to log in on most of them the following error appears frequently:

"Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain controller is down or otherwise unavailable, or because your computer account was not found. Please try again later. if the message continues to appear, contact your system administrator for assistance."

I have seen that this error appears only in the computers with Windows XP and not in the computers with Windows Vista or 7. We have 2 domain controllers.

Please let me tell you about the ways I tried to resolve this problem and their results:

- on some computers, after several restarts the users are able to log in, but if they restart or shutdown after that the error appears again; this worked for some computers, but I do not know if the error will appear again in the future.
- on some computers, when i disabled the windows firewall or allowed all kind of ICMPs it was resolved, but this did not work for all the computers and I do not know if the error will appear again in the future.
- I unjoined and then rejoined some computers from the domain and it was resolved but after restarting the error appears again.
- If I unplug the network cable the users can log in but after restart the error appears again.
- I have tried to reset the user password and computer on the Active Directory for some users and... Read more

We have been getting sporadic reports from our users of the error, "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed."  The workaround has been to dejoin and rejoin the domain, but it keeps happening and we need a permanent
fix.  We are primarily a laptop shop.
It has been suggested we disable the automatic machine accouint password change on our domain members in GPO.  While this may be a viable option with relatively low security risks, I'd really like to figure out why it's happening and try to
fix it.
The machines can lose the trust relationship at random.  It can happen overnight, or after going into hibernation.  I've had it happen to me a few times.  The DCs (we have 2) both show error 5722, but one is spitting out a specific Kerberos
error that the other one is not:

While processing an AS request for target service krbtgt, the account kriegesh did not have a suitable key for generating a Kerberos ticket (the missing key has an ID of 2).
The requested etypes : 18. The accounts available etypes : 23  -133  -128  3  1. Changing or resetting the password of kriegesh will generate a proper key.
My main issue is trying to determine why this continues happening and if we can resolve it without disabling the account password.  If that IS our best option, then so be it.  Any
thoughts are welcome.
Thank you very much in advance!  ~Sarah

I am working at a elementary school with a mixed environment of Windows 7 Pro and Windows 10 Pro workstations.  We need a roaming mandatory profile for a generic login.  The student often are changing settings even with a GPO limiting what is accessible
to the students.
The Windows 7 tools for creating profiles are apparently no longer available.  The current tool sets (Windows 8 and Windows 10) have not produced a workable Windows 7 mandatory profile.  We get one or another error message when we try them.
Is it still possible to create an usable Windows 7 mandatory profile with "today's" tool sets?
If it still is possible, would you please point me in the correct direction.
Thanks in advance.

This was originally posted in the Server 2012 forum, but perhaps it's more applicable to Windows 7.

I've joined the Windows 7 Pro workstations to the Domain using the SERVER2012/Connect app and that seemed to work fine.  I made the Users all Standard, not Admin, and access to the Shared folders is working fine too.  Users appear to be in the
Administrators group on the local machine, which is what I need.
However, a number of our applications aren't working correctly ... one writes changes to HKey Current User and those changes will not stick.  Some IE sites that require changes have to be made each time; those changes don't save.  Some
of the ODBC connections to SQL databases are behaving strangly as well.  I tried checking permissions on the Windows Registry keys, and they looked OK.  Turning off User Access Control did not help either.
If I log on to the workstation not using the Domain Account I don't have this problem.  And, one of the workstations which had performed the Windows 10 Upgrade while connected to the previous Domain Controllder works fine.
Any direction would be greatly appreciated!   Thx DMiller

Funny enough, we've found a handful of users on our network today unable to access local resources for the same reason!

Your DNS settings are being hijacked. They should point at your DC, but instead are pointed at a malicious DNS server hosted somewhere in Israel. Give your computer a good bath before letting play with the other children again.

We're currently in the process of mediation around here, too.

I have searched the forums for two weeks and I still cannot log into a Samba domain controller. I have tried everything suggested including upgrading my version of Samba to 3.3.4 and it only made matters worse. After two weeks, I am able to have my laptop join the domain, but after I reboot and try to log into the domain as a user, it keeps giving me the lost trust error, meaning that the creds were rejected. I have tried every combo of enabling and disabling of the RequiredSignOrSeal and RequireStrongKey registry entries and still nothing. If anyone has a patch or another workaround to get this working, I am all ears. The funny thing about all of this is when I log into the local host account, I can see the other machines on the domain. Could this mean I am actually logging into the domain and I don't even know it or is that a whole other issue seeing as how the login screen is telling me I am logging into the local machine? Again, any help would be appreciated!

A:Windows 7 Pro logging into Samba domain controller

What's the "local host account"?

How do you "see" the other machines "on the domain" when logged on as that account?

To troubleshoot this without guessing:

- install
- start a packet trace log
- quickly repro the symptom
- stop and save the trace
- zip and upload here.

Analysis of a packet trace is the best way to troubleshoot networking issues. Once the activity "on the wire" is understood, it's possible to be more focused in searching for a resolution.

You're going to have to root around in each hard drive and look for the log files by finding each Windows directory.
Then you have to match the time in the log files with the time that you ran the SFC.exe scan to see if you have the correct one.

I'm not familiar with the syntax that you're using for the sfc - where did you get that from?

Your Linux based NAS not showing up in Windows File Explorer view? I had this problem with 2 Win 10 PRO installations. Now mind you I have 3 Win 10 Home installs that did not have this issue so if yours is a Win 10 Home install this will not fix your problem.

For some insane reason Win 10 PRO in the default Quick Access view of Win 10 Pro will not display other Domain Controller network computers even when file/printer sharing is enabled properly (I assume yours is). To get around this you have to change the View in File Explorer from Quick Access to This PC which is more like the old Win 7 view.

To have Windows turn on file and printer sharing automatically, while in Explorer view click on Network in the left menu column. If file sharing has not been turned on then you will see a message at the address bar location in Explorer asking if you want to enable sharing, select it to confirm Yes.

To fix the issue with Domain Controller computers not appearing in Explorer view open a new File Explorer window and click on the View tab, then click the drop down arrow on Options. Click on Change folder and search options. In the General tab look for Open File Explorer to: and select This PC from the drop down list. This will change the view of File Explorer but you must first close the reopen the Explorer Window.

hey there, the office that i work at doing odds and ends for everything and anything doesn't have there networking setup in a domain enviroment, its in a peer to peer workgroup i think you call it. Basically my question is this...what does a server need in order to become a domain controller...is there seperate hardware or software or is it built into windows 2000 server. Right now the Dell 1400 SC server has 1Gb of ram and (2) Pentium III 1125 MHz processors. What would we have to do in order to get the server setup as a domain controller????? We plan on doing a clean install of everything if we can use this server as a domain controller... Also, i think one of this initial problems that they never had a domain controller setup is because most of the computers are running 98SE (about 28) some XP (about 6) and some 2000 pro (about 6) Im not sure if the 98's were a issue with a domain enviroment? By accident, I was being dumb and stupid and was messing with the .dll files a while back and so it messed up my computer but I got it working again however whenever I load the recovery partition at the beginning of the start-up, I get the Fatal System error Verification of knownDll failed. Can anyone help? I have the provided info below also. I have only a small amount of knowledge with fixing computers so if you can, please put it as simple as possible on how to fix this.

x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? x64
- the original installed OS on the system? yes
- an OEM or full retail version? OEM
- What is the age of system (hardware)? 1 month
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) 1 month

A:Verification of knownDll failed??

What are you trying to do with the system - restore the system to it's factory state?
If so, and you're getting the dll error when doing that - I'd have to suspect a problem with your recovery partition.

Have you run a hard drive diagnostic? If not, here's some tests that you may want to run:

I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests. They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:

H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
Memory Diagnostics (read the details at the link)
HD Diagnostic (read the details at the link)

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: Free Online AntiMalware Scanners (read the details at the link)

If these tests pass and the recovery partition still spits out dll errors, I'd suggest contacting the system manufacturer for a set of recovery disks.

The windows XP was installed on an 80 GB 10K disk and the windows 7 professional x64 partition was setup on an Intel SSD drive. Both installations were done from scratch (no imaging).

Right now The system running windows 7 professional x64 on the SSD is having problems connecting to my Domain controllers (Windows server 2003 x64 sp2 - fully patched). When I first did the install of the operating system and was doing the software installation from our network I didn't have any problems. The error message I get after trying to login is is Unknown logon Error.

I have tried different network cards, a completely different network port, updating drivers and none of this has resolved my issue. I have removed the system from the domain and re-added it and this worked for roughly 24-36 hours. Then the developer mentioned they were having the same login problems as before.

This issue occurs with the developers credentials as well as a the credentials from a Domain Administrator.

The XP system and windows 7 system are named similarly, but they are still different. Both systems are using the same dns servers. Currently I don't see any error messages on either my domain controller or the windows 7 system.

Have you tried working with the lanman server perimeters in the GPO of the Windows 7 machines?

In order for Windows 7 to work with older servers you usually need to adjust the lanman server security settings.

The following settings may help.

Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy

Local Policies - Security Options

Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Set to Send LM & NTLM responses only

Set the Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
Disable Require 128-bit encryption

We were  configuring  active directory domain service(AD DS) from server manager for an ?active directory federation services? certificate requirement which is used while configuring  ?certification authority ?  under
setup type-> Enterprise CAs
While configuring ADDS , under Deployment configuration, we have selected ?Add a new forest?(as there was some issue while selecting add a domain controller to existing domain) and provided a new root domain as ?aaa.org?after
next step we have provided the ?Directory Service Restore Mode? password
How can we revert server to old state ? The server earlier was SharePoint server.

A:Data Verification Failed after DVD Rewriter burning.

Experiment and try full erasing the DVD RW disc rather than quick erasing unless the disc is brand new. Using Nero 6 (I know yours is Nero 7) when I had data verification problems, fully erasing the disc seemed to solve that problem. I was able to add and delete data to the compilation later without problem.

For your reference the DVD writer I used was an HP 640c Lightscribe I installed in a USB external enclosure. I use it to backup data on my work PC that only has a combo drive (DVD ROM/CD RW). However, CDs do not have enough capacity for my purposes.

NSIS Error Installer verification failed.
This could be the result of an incomplete download, a falling disk, or (possibly) corruption from a virus.
You can try to force an install using the /NCRC command line switch (but it is not recommended.)

Hi all,

Have an Advent laptop here, BSODing when booting with the error message above.

Cannot run in safe mode and any start up repair attempts have failed.

I have run disk checks both in the Windows start up tool and in Linux and they both say no problems but when I try a system restore it says there is one. Here is the .dmp file and the laptops specs.

I also ran sfc /scannow but everytime I do I get a message saying there is a repari waiting for me to restart the laptop and that's all I ever get.

The start up repair gives the information below.0

Sorry I couldn't display the error logs better but I cannot figure out how to read them.

Thanks a lot,

A:Fatal error: Verification of knownDll failed.

The information you provided was rather vague. Please follow the http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html to provide us with more information. Thank you.

If you are unable to boot into Windows and startup repair keeps saying it needs to be run, see Startup Repair Infinite Loop Recovery for a good method to resolve the issue.

When I burn a CD using NERO Express I get all the way through the burn process and it says Burn Successful. It then prints out that the verification failed and NOTHING is burned to the CD.

What can I do at that point? Is there a freeware product that can be used to burn CDs and DVD to my external Pioneer Burner that is better than NERO Express?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

All burned up!

Hi all - I have a problem with my domain.

I have 1 domain "europe1" with the PDC in the UK.
I have 2 bdc's for europe1 in the a location in france.

europe1 is the accounts domain and is trusted by lots of resource domains.

The problem is this : Open user manager for domains on either one of the BDC's, it tries to retrive the list of users but gives the error "cannot find a domain controller for this domain".
If I try to retrieve a list of users from any one of the trusting domains it works no problem.

As a test we built a new bdc and it worked with no problems.

Any idea's what is wrong with our original BDC's ??

Thanks in advance

A:Cannot find domain controller for this domain

Have you done the standard what I term Microsoft solutions.

Reapply service pack the BDC's
Apply the latest Network card driver and reapply the service pack.

Only other thing I can think to check is can the BDC's resolve the PDC computer name.

Hope this is some what helpful.

When I logon to our network I get "Domain controller for this domain could not be found:. The event viewer records event ID 5719 in the system log:
No Windows NT Domain Controller is available for domain PGMS_LAW. (This event is expected and can be ignored when booting with the 'No Net' Hardware Profile.) The following error occurred:
The RPC server is unavailable.
According to MS support the way to resolve this is to disable LMHOSTS lookup box. This was not enable on any machines and now I'm stuck. Does anyone have any ideas?

A:Domain controller for this domain could not be found

Simplest thing to try is remove it from the domain (make sure you have a local account with admin rights FIRST). Then re-add it to the domain.
Can you see/use network resources otherwise? Are the lights on on the NIC? Have you tried a different cable/network port?
Maybe remove/re-add the NIC. Check all the properties, correct IP/subnet/gateway/etc.......
