T450 screen unplugging?

Q: T450 screen unplugging?

When I close the lid of my computer, it makes the alert noise as if you unplugged a device. When I open the lid, it makes the alert noise as if you plugged in a new device. The screen takes a few seconds to turn on, and all of my windows which were open will be resized, and all of my desktop icons are rearranged.Happens every time I open or close the lid, and it's been about a week now.About two months ago, I actually sent this in to Lenovo for some repair from a drop, and they replaced just some plastic parts of the shell and the keyboard. It worked fine when I got it back, and once the screen is on, it continues to work fine. I'm mentioning this because I don't think the screen is becoming physically unplugged, it looks like it is in top shape after the repairs. Any thoughts?-Matt

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just got a dell inspiron with windows vista home premium 64bit on it. I'm finding that when i unplug my usb mouse i get a blue screen/memory dump followed by shuting down. I saw some similair threads on the forum when looking for an answer, and the answer i found was to use the 'unplug device' icon in the bottom right corner. But the problem i have with this, is there is no icon there, i click the arrow to see the rest and still not there. Do i need to turn off my laptop everytime before unplugging mouse, or did i miss something? If further information is needed just let me know

A:blue screen when unplugging usb mouse

I have fixed this on my laptop doing the same as I posted on the dell website: Studio 14z: BSOD whenever i unplug USB - DELL COMMUNITY
Uninstall windows updates with the following Knowledge Base numbers (I haven't figured out which one is doing it quite yet)

restart the computer, log in and test.

Good luck!

I have 2 two monitor set up, both are samsung Tvs, one 32" 720p and one 37" 1080p. The 37" has never looked like true hd since I got in at Christmas time, but I've fiddled with it enough to make it bearable. The issue is with my smaller screen. I recently brought my rig to a friends house, bringing only my 32" monitor. The resolution was set at 1360 X 768, which was the recommended. After booting up at my buddies, the resolution looked terrible. Games and videos are not completely unwatchable, but colours look wrong and words look either fuzzy or grainy. When I go to change the resolution, the recommended is now 1920 X 1080 (which looks really small) and all other resolutions look bad. It almost as if my pc now recognizes this tv as a 1080p which it is not.
I have a GTX 760 GPU, run Windows 8.1 and the tv in question is connected through a HDMI to DisplayPort. (Other is HDMI to HDMI)
One more note, in the NVIDIA Control Panel, the 1360 X 768 option is only available for 1080p or 1080i, 720p is only a choice for 1280 x 720p Native resolution, which again, looks terrible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

A:Resolution on screen looks terrible after unplugging and replugging.

Hello I just purchased my lenovo x280 and have noticed whenever I plug or unplug the power the display flickers and goes black for less than a second then resumes like normal, this happens every time I plug or unplug the device. I saw similar posts about this being because it changes the refresh rate on a different laptop but I haven't been able to find the setting to turn it off

A:Screen flicker on x280 when plugging and unplugging from power

Hello and welcome,
Right click on the desktop background.  Select Intel Graphics Settings.  Select Power.  Disable Display Refresh Rate Switching.
I didn't know where to find it either until just now.  Thanks for getting me looking.  I'm going to leave it as is on my X280 to maintain whatever battery run-time the 48Hz setting saves.

Hi! I have had my lenovo Thinkpad T450 intel Core i-5-5300U CPU and 4.00 RAM memory for approximately two years now. Recently, I had an issue with my display as the screen will freeze, slowly pixelate, and turn white after several minutes. This occurs sporadically, usually when I wake the computer from it's sleep setting and ocassionally during usage. I noticed that when I apply minor pressure to the bottom right hand corner of the laptop, the issue will be resolved and suspect the problem is with the connections. Is this a common issue for T450 users? Are there protocols for users like myself to fix this problem or is the problem complex and requires that I take this to the repair shop? Thanks!

I recently bought my third Thinkpad, a T450 off ebay to replace my X230 for studying. It's an i7 model with 8GB RAM and a 256gb SSD. It still has nearly 2 years remaining on the extended warranty. When it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to find it had a 1080p IPS screen already fitted (was planning to upgrade it) - did Lenovo ever ship the T450 with this? It's a late model one, did they introduce it later on in the machine's life cycle? There aren't any visible signs of the screen having been replaced and the seller never mentioned anything (I thought it was coming with the TN HD panel) and the brightness controls in Windows work as they should do on a clean Windows install.

Sorry if this has been asked before, I looked around as best as I could with the search features, googling, etc. The thinkpad powers on just fine, boots into windows, there is no backlighting at all. Had to use a flashlight to navigate. The red dot on the back of the screen for the i on thinkpad does light up though. Is the screen bad, or is the cable loose? Should I try the motherboard side first or the display? Thanks!

A:Thinkpad t450 screen not lighting up

It is impossible to say.  The screen could be bad.  The motherboard could have a problem - most likely a fuse.  The Hall sensor that switches when the lid hasclosed could have failed.  sorry.

Hey, I bought a Thinkpad T450 back in November and really like the specs with one MAJOR exception and that's the screen that the laptop has come with. It's astoundingly bad. They didnt offer a 1080p IPS display so I went for a HP+ 1600x900 display as a sort of temprorary option, because I know that if I got a 1260x724 I'd have to invest in a new connector pin. The issue is when I went to ask an IT shop how much it would cost to just replace the screen they told me my Laptop wouldnt support a 1080p IPS screen and it would just be blank saying they've had this issue before. I've seen that people have done it on the internet so I don't really know who to go with here. I suspect they may have tried to go from 724 to 1080p which would explain it. Does anyone have any experience with this and if it is possible to upgrade is there a difference between a t450 and t450s 1080p screen  and would either be compatable with each other? As a note they offer my EXACT laptop with a 1080p screen now so again any info I may be missing here regarding why it wouldnt be compatable would be appreciated. Aren't these laptops supposed to be upgradable? It's the whole reason I bought it..

A:Upgrade T450 screen to 1080p

It looks like they only offer the FHD screen on the "S" model. Having said that, I cannot guarantee it will work, but I would GUESS that it would. They use the same BIOS. Note that if you have any warranty left, replacing the screen would likely void it. Note that the T450 series machines seem to have a custom eeid image and people who have replaced screens using aftermarket panels have reported that brightness controls no longer work.

I've got the basic TN 1366x768 display on my T450 and would like to install a full HD 1080p IPS display. I can't seem to find any information on the forums for screen replacement for this model. Most online display retailers sellers suggest that the edp cable would have to be replaced for a dual channel one. Is this correct? Also, would replacing this display for a full HD blow any fuses in the laptop? Any help on this would be truely appreciated.

A:Screen upgrade from 1366x768 on T450

Welcome to the forum!
There is a FHD panel listed in the parts list on the support side: source: Parts List
Click on the link above and scroll down to page 4, you will see a FHD panel listed with FRU #04X5916. No need to change the cable, there are only two types of cables, one for touch and one for non touch (see on page 3 under "Cables")
Panels are not a self service CRU. If you have warranty on your T450 you may need to contact Lenovo to get the panel changed.
Hope this helps...

Hello, The screen of my T450 flickers and becomes purple when it is flexed. The problem goes away when you apply pressure on the bezel under the display so the problem must be caused by a loose connection. I upgraded the original TN display of the T450 to an IPS screen so I presume that my warranty is void. My question is should I replace the screen again or is there a way to fix the connections in the soft black ribbon under the LCD panel? Is there a tutorial how this could be done? Thank you for your suggestions!

Is there a way to adjust the screen brightness as soon as the ON button is pressed and the screen lights up? I'm using linux and i have to wait to get X started and a session opened to be able to reduce it with Fn+F5 and it does not memorise it. So i have to repeat this operation at every OS boot. By default the brightness is at the maximum.

A:thinkpad t450 boot screen brightness

Hi itt788.
Welcome to our community forums.
Could you try these generic steps on how to set the brightness in Linux?
If the laptop's default brightness adjustment keys are not working, then add a boot time linux kernel parameter and try again.
1. First open up the /etc/default/grub file with your favorite text editor as root.
sudo nano /etc/default/grub
2.Find the line staring with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=, most probably there will be the word quiet also. (see the image attached).
3. Add a few words there, acpi_backlight=vendor all inside the double quote.
4. Save and exit the text editor and then reboot the laptop.
The acpi_backlight kernel parameter options are not just limited to vendor, and it's guaranteed to work.
You might have to experiment with other options like native and none . After rebooting if the brightness adjustment hotkeys are working then you can set a laptop's brightness with the xbacklight command.
If it's not installed, then install it with apt, sudo apt-get install xbacklight , and then run the command like below.
xbacklight -set 20 # set brightness to 20%
Keep us posted on how it goes.

Hi people,I have some issue with my screen on lenovo thinkpad t450. I bought it in Sweden recently (few months ago) and everything was fine, and then this morning this black spot of pixels showed up. It was not punched or something like that, it was on my desk the whole time.I tried to run JScreenFix.com on this place and also to massage it with a soft cloth but it seems that it just gets worse. The problem I have is that I am now in Serbia, and I have this international warranty, but only in one city in Serbia which is on the other part of the country. Also, I saw that there are service providers in my city, but I am not sure if they can fix me this as regular service with warranty.Do you maybe know how this functiones? Or have some tips how to solve this?

I just changed my ThinkPad T450 laptop screen to a full-HD IPS display. The new panel (display) shows up in the Device Manager with Hardware ID MONITOR\LGD03FF. While the screen works, I can no longer adjust the brightness in Windows 10 - it's always on full brightness and the brightness key combinations no longer work (nor do any of the Windows 10 software brightness controls). The brightness adjustment keys work perfectly in Linux (Ubuntu 16.04), and they work if I go in to the BIOS. The monitor is showing up in the Device Manager as "Generic PnP Monitor". Any idea how to get brightness working in Windows 10 with the LGD03FF panel?

A:Brightness not adjustable on ThinkPad T450 after changing screen (to LGD03FF)

unless you have a panel with an fru number corresponding to t450, the eeid (configuration chip on the panel) won't have the correct info to allow brightness control.

I wonder what'd happen if I unplug the desktop tower cord from the power surge or electric outlet? Will I lose what I have in tower? I unplugged the desktop monitor cord from the power surge several times and nothing was lost, but I am not sure about the tower cord. The reason is because I need to move the table around in the room and need to unplug the cords. I am sure nothing will be lost if unplugging tower cord from the power surge or outlet because the table needs to be moved around in the room, something else like moving out of the house, etc if you know what I mean.

Also, what would happen if unplugging the cords from the desktop monitor and tower themselves, not from power surge/outlet? Would everything be lost? Much thanks.

A:Unplugging cords

Save everything, then turn everything off, using the approved procedure and then you can unplug.
As always, your important stuff should always be backed up. An unexpected improper shut down, and stuff can be lost.
Stuff can be lost for other reasons, too.

Getting ready to do the install on my new SSD with some trepidation. I have Raptors in Raid 0 right now and would like to simply unplug them, set the BIOS to AHCI and use the 0 port for the SSD experiment/potential fiasco. What I hope to be able to do if the SSD doesn't like me, is to unplug it, set the BIOS back to Raid, plug in the Raptors and pretend the whole thing never happened. Does this stand a chance of working?

A:Plugging and Unplugging!

I wouldnt unplug the raptor raid - if you use intel raid (the one i'm sure of and probably similar, or the same for others) when you enable raid in the bios it also enables AHCI - so you should be good to go with testing the ssd drive - just unplugging a raid array can be very hard to set up again - i did it years ago and it was a miracle i got it back up and going again (that included reinstalling the OS) so not recommended - it also depends what options are available in the raid rom (i think its called) which you set it up in before you install the OS. From memory, which is bad, the problem was it couldnt recognise one or both the drives.
It depends on your motherboard I guess but for mind it should be ok - running raid and using the same controller to use a ssd drive in AHCI mode - but treat this as my opinion - you should be able to find information on your motherboards site, or intel etc's, site. Or wait for more replies as Im uncertain and more repies means more suggestions.
If it has 2 controllers eg intel and jmicron use the JMICRON if it supports AHCI to be on the safe side.

So recently, my Y40-80 started to shut down immediately after i unplug the power source. At first, i figured it's due to my battery, so i got a new one and got rid of the old one. But the problem still exists. I've called in to Lenovo support and they said my warranty doesn't cover this, so it'll be due to charge, which i think is ridiculous since if it's a hardware failure, i do not see why i should be charged just because i don't have the original battery. Anyways, i've tried reformatting and that did not work. Anyone out there could help me please? Appreciate it!

A:Y40-80 shuts down upon unplugging

Hi rx24race ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
Would the new battery be a direct purchase from Lenovo or declared genuine replacement Lenovo battery ?
Within the warranty coverage would be the original parts that came with the machine.
As you mentioned that with a new battery you are still having the same issue but since this would be a charging issue , it is yet to be investigated if it was the systemboard or battery itself is the fault.
Option that I suggest is to have it taken perhaps to service provider like best buy that can check with a certified compatible battery and have them assist you on having it serviced or to call in directly using the same case number you were provided.
Update us on how it would work best for your situattion.

I've recently acquired a digital camera, and have been testing snaps then putting them into the PC for editing. When I remove the lead, I get the "Unsafe Removal Of Device" window pop up warning me about not stopping the device properly. Now this has never caused me any issues when unplugging any USB hardware.

So my question is, can the warning be disabled totally? Every time I unplug the camera the window pops up and wants to place its icon in the system tray. It's starting to get on my nerves!

Thanks in advance

Yesterday, I was on my computer, when I decided to unplug a USB connection to my printer off from a USB port at the top of my PC. Upon doing so, my monitor went blank, and I think I heard the fan levels increase. My keyboard lit up all of the lights, which only ever happens while the computer is booting up.

I waited for a while for the display to return, but nothing happened, so I attempted to manually shut it off by holding the power button down. Nothing happened. I managed to unplug the cord, to turn off the PC. Upon plugging it back in, the PC would not start.

So far, I have concluded that, the power socket and the cable both are fine. The GPU LED light is also not on. I checked the connections to the motherboard from the power supply and they seemed all in place. I also ran the 'paperclip' test on the Power Supply, which worked. I moved the RAM sticks to different slots, and even took out the memory, but didn't hear any sounds or notice any power.

Interestingly, the LED power light on the case seems to occasionally work. Hoping that the issue is not the motherboard.

Motherboard: MSI Z97 G55 SLI

When I plugged the computer back in, I began to see strange behavior. There seem to be "artifacts", for lack of a better word since I'm not overclocking anything, during startup and after booting. The text is all messed up, showing the wrong letters and symbols, and the asus screen is screwed up too. After booting, there are discolorations and severe misalignments, and the monitor going black and coming back repeatedly. I tried resetting the power strip, plugging the power directly into the wall, and cleaning out the dust in the box.

The problem comes and goes, sometime more sever than others and sometimes all is OK, and I can't figure out what is causing it. All temps are OK (GPU is 42 idle, CPU is 29). Specs are as follows:
Mobo: Asus A8N-SLI
CPU: AMD 3700 San Diego
PSU: Antec Truepower 2.0 550
Mem: 2x512 Corsair XMS
1 DVD drive, 4 hard drives, stock cooling (with 1 extra hard drive fan)
Old Gateway CRT monitor (using DVI-Analog adapter)
No overclocking on CPU or GPU

Right now everything is fine and the Asus PC Probe shows the following voltages, pretty much rock solid :
+12 : 11.84
+5 : 4.945
+3.3 : 3.296
V Core : 1.392

It's the weirdest thing.. If I disconnect the ethernet plug from the computer, it will blue screen. Every time.

Based on the blue screen info and the searches I have done on the error, it seems there is something wrong with the Nvidia drivers? I have went to every resource I could to make sure all drivers are up to date.. but nothing seems to be working.

I have been trying to troubleshoot this for a while.. but I kept giving up. I am turning to the fourms for help since I can come up with no solution.

Here are the computer specs - required files are attached. Please let me know if I need to provide anything else. Thanks in advance!

- Installed: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
- Originally: Windows Vista 64-bit
- Windows Vista came on the system, but it came with free Windows 7 upgrade discs, so it was upgraded.

- System is just over 2 years old
- Windows 7 installed just over a year ago

Hi all, I've been having this weird problem and this site looked like a good place to ask about it because of the support I've seen. So wooooo first post~!
Anyway, whenever I unplug one certain flash drive (a Kingston DataTraveller SE9) my laptop bluescreens with the error "SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED". I can't figure out why for the life of me! I did, however, figure out that the flash drive is recognized as a local disk and not a removable one. This issue only applies to my laptop, that's it; the drive works perfectly fine on any other computer. I can still read and write to it no problem. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

A:Unplugging Certain USB Drive Causes BSOD

Some USB flash drives act like a hard drive which Windows lists as local disk instead of removable. You will notice that when you delete anything on the USB drive labeled local the deleted items go to the recycle bin. On a USB flash drive labeled removable the items are not sent to the recycle bin.
Download USBdeview. Run the program Highlight any listing for Kingston DataTravler and press the red X to remove. Reboot the computer and attach the Kingston again. Do you get the error?

Hello, I will be out of the country for about 12 days and I am thinking I should unplug my laptop (switch the powerstrip to OFF) while I'm away just to be on the safe side. I want to do this for peace of mind since I will be so far away. I have an old laptop that is running on 3 cylinders.

Upon return, will I be experiencing difficulty turning my computer back on? BTW, I am with CenturyLink Wireless.

I've not done this before as I've not been gone that long.

Thank you very much.

Stop: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The Session Manager Initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000189 (0x00000000 0x00000000) The system has been shut down.

That was the first time i got any message. I have a systemax computer and am on windows xp sp3, but after a friend came in from out of town to visit, i noticed him on my pc and thought nothing of it. Then when i would use it, it would just cut OFF as if the power source was being removed, not the actual shutdown process. But i would be able to cut it back on, however, usually right after logging in or as i try to open a program, it cuts off again. I kept cutting it back on and tried a program from microcenter called 'system mechanic'. it said i had 95 registry errors and it fixed everything....or so i thought. I used my pc again happily for a whole 2 hours then, it cut off again. then I couldnt get it back on. when i tried it gave me the above message. It wouldnt even start in safe mode. I thought i ruined my pc, but then i remembered that when i leave it alone until after midnight, it comes back on.... i left it alone until 6 am this morning, and i insalled a fix it program from MS, i just want to make sure this will actually fix the problem and want to know what caused it, what does that mean? This guy became very upset with me and did a lot of petty things b4 i put him out like unplug my mouse, keyboard, and speakers from pc and broke my ac! and more. Plus i know he is a p... Read more
