Preferred Solution: Can´t connect to wireless network after system restore.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I had my home network set up, and it worked just fine. Desktop w/ XP Home (SP2), laptop w/ XP Media Center (SP3), Linksys WRT54G – desktop hard-wired, laptop wireless. File sharing, printer sharing, all good. Explorer.exe file on laptop corrupted, had to burn out the hard drive and recover/reload. Now can’t get network back up. Set up fine (apparently) on desktop, but can’t make the connection with laptop. Have run network setup wizard several times, tried every different permutation I can think of with my low level of tech experience. Wizard on laptop seems to set up network, but desktop MSHOME network only sees desktop, and when I try to see MSHOME with laptop, it tells me it's unavailable and to ask network administrator, may not have rights, etc. I saw you help another with similar problem, but haven’t been able to get her fixes to help this one. What should I try next, or what further info can I give you?

I am running WXP Home, SP2 on a desktop.

Recently I found System Restore not working. It would neither restore to an earlier time nor create a new restore point. I tried doing a virus scan using Avast, rebooting, checking that it is (supposed to be) running and safe mode.

Disconnecting from the Internet and turning off antivirus and firewall also made no difference.

I also turned it off and on again. I noticed that initially it said it was monitoring drives C, D & E but after turning on again it only showed drives C & D. These drives are all partitions on my HD.

On checking E I found that it had no file system and was advised to format it. On attempting this I got Format did not complete successfully.

I also attempted to Defrag and got Disk Defragmenter could not start.

Does anyone know what is going on and how to correct it?

Best, Peter.

A:HELP! Can’t System Restore, Defrag, nor Format. Can someone help?

I am hoping that your operating system is still working. I never had very much of a great result with system restore. I think I had got it to work twice. Are you just trying to get it to work or do you have to have roll back to a earlier date?

I usually use MyDefrag to do my defrag. Do you have three hard drives or three partitions? Are you trying to format through window disk management?

Hey I?m slightly new to changing thing in my computer. But today I went and bought a mother board and processor and pretty much installed everything in myself. Computer starts up obviously saying that there is an error and I can access my bios with my mouse and keyboard. But when I leave bios and get asked to either start normally or launch system recover if I choose normal I get a flash blue screen and resets instantly. But if I choose launch system restore it loads up and gets to a screen that asks if I want to restore or cancel but can?t click or move mouse or keyboard.
I?m using a Razer naga for mouse and a Razer ornata for keyboard. I have looked on the internet for some fixes that didn?t help in the slightest so now I?m here hoping to get help lol

I just installed a D-Link wireless router (DI-524). The network shows up with a strong signal when I do a site survey from my laptop (Dell Latitude D400), but it wont connect to it. Ive tried connecting using both the PCs built-in wireless card and also the USB wireless adapter (DWL-G122) that came with the D-Link kit, with no luck. Other relevant facts:

--I have no trouble connecting to other networks with the built-in wireless card
--Tried changing my network's channel; didn't help
--Im sure I typed the WEP encryption key correctly
--Laptop is only 3 ft. from the router, no barriers or interfering devices present (2.4Mhz phone, monitor, etc.)
--Router has the latest firmware upgrade
--Tried several network mgt. utilities (Dells, D-Links AirPlus, Network Magic), including their repair network features

Im stumped. Can anyone suggest anything else I might try?

I've been having problems (weird things going on with iTunes, games crashing) so I decided to use System Restore to roll back. Since then my wireless network is no longer working - that is, there IS a network, and my wireless devices (printer, iPhone, Xbox, PS3) recognise it, but they can't connect. I think when I did the system restore it screwed up settings. I've tried the troubleshoot option in Windows 7 and it says I have no problems. I turned off the router and restarted etc. ANyone have any idea what might be going wrong and how I can fix?

One! Stop using system restore.... makes more problems then it fixes.

As of 2 days ago, my wireless card will only recognize a neighbors computer-to-computer network when I view available wireless networks. This resulted the day after I set up wireless network file sharing between my two home laptop computers by changing the workgroup settings on each computer to match. My other computer is still operating correctly, and verifies that there are 6 networks available within range that will provide internet connectivity, including my own home network. Oddly the still good computer will not recognize the neighbors computer-to-computer network, not that I carethis just seems odd. I fear I may have become infected with malware or a virus, because I also cannot use system restore to any automatically created restore points, even with my anti-virus (Symantec Endpoint Protection) disabled. The process always results in restoration incomplete. However, the system restore function will complete to a restore point I manually create today, therefore leaving me to believe that the previous restore points have been corrupted. Other than the concern regarding available wireless networks, I do not see any notable problems with either computer. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

A:Wireless Network Connection will only connect to Internet if Lcl Area Connect disable

sounds about right! Your big issue will be the VPN, as it is frequently specifically
config'd to use a specific adaptor AND to force all tcp traffic thru that connection,
even though you want to do some trivial google.com search.

Consider using a Hardware Profile to define
1) a LAN connection environment (ie no WiFi)
2) a WiFi environment (w/o a LAN)

the choice occurs at boot time and the hardware is enabled/disabled per
the profile.

I have a lenovo u160 running windows 7, a couple of days ago it seemed my computer was infected with something, giving a series of security warnings I had not seen before (not av security suite). It slowed the computer down for a few minutes.

After closing these messages, there seemed to be no problem, but then my computer was no longer connect to the internet. It connects to our router/wireless network, but not to the internet.

I tried resetting and unplugging the router and the modem, but still no luck. We have two other computers on the same network that are connecting to both the network and the internet.

I tried running rkill and malwarebytes twice and no malicious items were detected.

I restored the computer to an earlier point (2-3 days earlier)

On the toolbar in the bottom right of the taskbar, it shows a 5 white signal bars, with a "!" inside a yellow triangle.
If I click on the network button it states it is "connected" to the network. It describes the connection as "excellent" (4-5/5 bars).

Above the display of the available networks, it states

"currently connected to:
Unidentified network
No Internet access"

I am not computer savvy and have not run into this problem before. Thanks for your time and help.

Also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.

Hi. I have an IBM T40 Thinkpad laptop running Windows XP with CISCO Aironet Client Utility installed to manage my wireless networks. I don't understand the point of this utility as I find the Windows XP wireless connection management more reliable and straightforward, but I don't know how to disable this thing. I would if I could and I have tried, although not that hard.

Anyway, I was using the CISO Aironet Client Utility (or whatever it's called) fine, then I visited a friend's house and needed to get on his network. He started poking around and one day it was working and the next it was broken. It kept saying it couldn't find a radio signal or that it was off. I came home and it wasn't working for a month or so.

One day, I messed around with it and it started working again. Only problem now is whenever I shut down my laptop and re-open it, it never reconnects to my wireless connection automatically. I always have to do it by hand.

Any suggestions here? How can I get it to reconnect automatically and if I can't, how can I get it to use the Windows wireless features that are built in and bypass this CISCO stuff?

Thanks!

Hey guys, need some urgent help here.

I recently had an annoying notice popping up from this program saying 'The Wireless Network Adaptoor could not be found'. So I decided that I should find a solution on Intel's forums. I came across a thread that discussed my problem, and one of the Intel workers mentioned that Uninstalling and Reinstalling the program would be the best solution. So I followed the steps and came across a huge problem . Turns out that once I removed this program, my computer wouldn't connect to my wireless network in my house. I went onto my other devices throughout the home and they all seemed to be working fine, and that my router was still working fine aswell. I went onto my other computer and downloaded the program onto my USB, and installed it back onto my original computer. There still wasn't any difference, and my computer still currently can't connect to my wireless access point. I've rolled back drivers, updated them, and I've refreshed wireless network adapters in my Network and Sharing Center in Control Point. I'm starting to run out of ideas, and I really need some help. Hi everyone: Im having an extremely frustrating problem connecting to my Netgear DG384G v3 wireless router in my flat.

In short:

Ever since I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP Pro, internet browsers do not detect a connection to the internet despite a wireless connection being detected in the network connections (and the icon in the system tray) when my wireless adapter is plugged into my PC. Connection problems only occurred after the reformat, another PC in my flat connects wirelessly to our router with no problems (before, during & after the time I reformatted; Im posting this using his PC) and the router config settings have definitely not been changed in any way so its not a router problem. It appears that the wireless adapter is able to detect a signal from the router but the router is not sending information to the adapter (I cant even connect to the router setup IP address 192.168.0.1)?

More detailed:

1) I wiped the PCs harddrive then reinstalled Windows XP Pro I thought the recovery disk would have drivers with it (like others Id used) but it didnt so I had to manually find nVidia chipset & 3com Ethernet controller drivers and SP1 (for USB 2.0 functionality), download them on another PC and transfer and install them on mine. I got SP2, this didnt change anything, I changed back to SP1, still no change to connectivity.

Hi everyone.

This past weekend I went out of town and took my Windows 7 laptop with me -- since I returned home, it has been unable to connect to my wireless network. Other devices in my home connect to the network just fine, and the problem laptop has always been fine until now. My network card is an Atheros AR9285, and I'm attempting to connect to a Medialink router with WPA password protection and AES encryption.

My wireless network icon in the task bar has a yellow sign with an exclamation point in it. It says "No Internet access."

I have tried:

-rebooting the computer
-unplugging and restarting the modem and router
-going to the command prompt and renewing my IP address with the command IPCONFIG/RENEW

None of this works.

Like I said, all other devices in my house connect to the wireless network with no problem. It's just this one laptop. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A:Windows 7 laptop with Atheros AR9285 network card can't connect to wireless network

Three things to try ...

If you have McAfee please see the sticky thread at the top of this (Networking) forum.

Disable encryption on the router and try to connect. If successful you can probably re-enable encryption and reconnect.

Revert to a System Restore Point before the weekend.

Have you tried any other browsers? SeaMonkey is a good one to try if you don't have another. You can still keep IE as default and have SeaMonkey for backup for web pages that may not display correctly in IE or when you have access problems like you are having now. Being Mozilla-based, it uses a different rendering engine. For those web sites that support pipelining, you may also find that it is considerably faster.

Check your connection settings under Internet Options. In the LAN section, try toggling the "Automatically Detect Settings" option.

Hi, Have a problem there, Just reinstalled a fresh copy of Windows XP and WAS having problems having my Linksys 802B wireless card but now it finally detected.. just reinstalled the driver. Now another problem is.. when I double clciked INternet Exploroer, webpages dont load up. A box pops up tp ask if I want to workoffline or Connect. I click on COnnect, and the box then said " No connection to the internet is currently avaiable." The thing is that my wireless adapter is already connected to the DSL in perfect signal connections.

I then went to to Network COnnections folder, There are 3 icons, one says Incomming, the other 2 in the LAN or HighSpeed Internet section says 1394 Connection, and Wireless Network Connection Enabled. On the far left column, i clicked on Create a New Connection. I clicked the option of " Connect to the internet" , then "Setup my Connection Manually.". Then " Connect Using a broadband connection that is always on." .. because I dont need a login name and password. After clicking NEXT and Finished, ..nothing happened.. i clicked on IE again, and same thing pops up. I tried doing the 2nd option to let u enter the ID and password BUT disable the prompt to log in with a username and pw.. still dont work.
What gives? How do i fix this problem? Any help is appreciated. thnx.

Hi,

I am hoping that someone can help me.
We have three computers at home two which are connected to router and working fine and my laptop.
My laptop was connecting to my home wireless network until my daughter used it last. Now it will not connect at all
I used to have to follow the steps below for some reason and then it would connect fine:
Wireless network connections
Change advanced settings
Wireless Networks tab
I would have to tick the checkbox USE WINDOWS TO CONFIGURE MY WIRELESS NETWORK SETTINGS
Then into properties for my wireless network and in association retype my password and then it would connect. (it seemed like to much work every time but it still worked)
There was other networks in the list which i deleted and wireless network connection shows that the network connection strength is excellent but it just seems to get stuck aquiring the network address. I have tried repair etc.

Can someone please help me with this as maybe it's just something simple!!

Began boot process to the point of restore from external drive and kept getting the message Can?t find Volume for install or something like that. Any ideas?

A:Can’t Restore from Image

I don't know anything about your device or even what OS you are using, but the downloaded images may need something on the old drive to reinstall.
If not that, then I will boot to the media.  If it is a recovery image from Dell, you may need to select an option like recover drive.  If it is the install media for the OS, I will remove the partitions on the drive which cannot be there and those normally include a EFI, Recovery, MSR and OS for a UEFI partition.  If you used Diskpart to clean the drive, then the drive should be basically cleaned of all partitions and prior configurations.
Maybe if you went through the exact steps you are taking and the results, someone will see a problem.

Hi,

I really appreciate anytime that anyone will take to help on this (even tough I might not be perfectly clear!). I'm trying to connect a desktop using windows xp home SP1 with a linksys USB 54G adapter to a linksys wireless-B router. The device specification say that the USB device is capable on connecting to a wireless-B network. I had no problem doing the same thing with a laptop using XP home SP1 and a pcmcia wireless-AG card.

The problem is that when I finish the installation of the USB adapter. My network does get recognize and i get a message from the icon in the tray that says "wireless networks are available". I double-click and see my network showing and I only have to check the option to connect to the network even if it is not secure to have the possibility to hit connect. Which I have done without any success. After I did this, nothing as really change. I still get the message from the tray that "wireless connections are available" like I did before and just wont connect.

I've tried disabling the network card connection in "network connection" and the reinstalled the USB adapter without any success. At that point, if I check in cmd->ipconfig. I get media not connected. Could it be an update? Because the computer has not been connected do the internet since it was shipped a year ago with XP home SP1.

I have not tried assigning IP addresses automatically but for the other two cpu the address that showed in the route... Read more

Our home PC cannot communicate with the net. It is connected by a LAN cable to a Netgear MBR 1210. Our netbook however works fine wirelessly, using the MBR1210. While it seems like a virus, MSES turns up nothing. I will insert a HJ file below. Tried to restore PC to an earlier point, but restore is disabled/corrupted and no matter which restore point I choose, I get the message
Your computer cannot be restored to ... No changes have been made to your computer. To choose another....

I did get an email from a friend travelling in China a couple of days ago, which I would suspect, except that it arrived two days prior and things were fine yesterday. Is this something simple, or will I have download a specific tool to clean? Thanks.

I'm trying to connect to a wireless network with a laptop. It required a network key, so I went on the one laptop used regularly in the place and used to configure it and turned off the encryption. I am now posting this from the desktop which is still connected. My laptop indicates it's connected but won't receive any data. Ping shows "destination host unreachable" and 100% loss.

Hi,

HELP!

I?ve been having a strange problem I cannot seem to solve.

My computer all of a sudden last week stopped displaying any webpages/connecting to the internet. It says it is connected (signal strenght/connection= excellent) but it won?t actually connect. Not to IE (7), but not to anything else either. The problem is both for the wireless as well as through the cabel connection.

I?m sure the problem must be the computer and not the internet though, because on my friend?s computer it works fine. I have tried to put all the settings the same as on his (gateway, dns, network mask).

I have already tried to reboot the computer.

I have tried to renew/reset the IP-address numerous times, but am not sure this is working right. I have manually tried to set it (same as the computer that does connect, except for the last two digits).
But when I do it through Run it will let me release the IP-address, however when i try to renew it tells me

?An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection: An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket.?

I have also tried to reset WinSock.

It will not ping either, I tried yahoo.com and 66.218.71.198 - it tells me Destination host is unreachable.

The last windows diagnostics I have are as followed;

Last diagnostic run time: 11/20/09 17:18:55 WinSock Diagnostic
WinSock status

info All base service provider entries are present in the Winsock catalog.
info The Winsoc... Read more

My son built his own gaming pc. He already downloaded windows 10. But he cannot connect to our internet. He tried downloading some drivers online, but we weren?t sure what to download. Now he has a bunch of random drivers on it, but still can?t connect. Can you help?

A:Can’t connect to internet

Tell us the exact Motherboard in the PC then we can look for Network drivers for it.
Is it a wired Ethernet connection to the modem/router or wireless ?
I assume it's 64 bit Windows 10.

My compter is terible so I wanted to do a system restore to maybe have it run faster which I've done before but this time it won't let me connect to internt. When I try to repair connection I get problem renwing ip adress. I've looked around this site and tried everythingfrom netsh winscok reset, netsh int ip resetlog.txt . Nothing seems to work , I'm really stuck. Any help would be grateful, also this is what I get when I go start>run>cmd>ipconfig/all

C:/documents and settings^aj>ipconfig^all

Windows ip configuration

Host name . . . .:katheryn-asijdzx
Primary dns suffix . . . :
Node type .. :broadcast
Ip routing enabled : no
Wins proxy enabled . . . . : no

Ethernet adapter local area connection :

Connection specific dns suffix : belkin
Description : broadcom 440x 10/100 intergrade controller
Physical adress: 00-0B-DB-29-B6-46
Dhcp enabled: yes
Autoconfiguration endabled : yes
Ip adress: 0.0.0.0
Subnetmask: 0.0.0.0
Default gateway:
Dhcp server:192.168.2.1
Dns servers: 192.168.2.1

C:/documents and settings/aj>

That's basically I'm on my phone so I just copied from computer that's why it doesn't look like the exact way but all the stuff is corect. By the way. Have a motorola modem and belkin wirless internet I've tried plugging the moded right into the comp nothing works. All the lights are on correctly did all replugs. Any ideas?

A:cant connect to internet after system restore please help!!

Your Default Gateway is not showing up in your IP Config file. Your Default Gateway is your Router. It should be listed as 192.168.2.1 the same as the DHCP and DNS server. Unplug the power plug to the Modem and the Router. Plug the power into just the Modem (unless you have a modem/router combo) When all the lights come up, plug in the power to the Router (unless combo of course)
Now Go to Start/Run and type inetcpl.cpl and press enter/Connections/LAN Settings. Make sure all the boxes are unchecked. Now go to Start/Run and type ncpa.cpl and press enter. Right click the Local Area connection/Properties scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP-IP)/Properties. Make sure Obtain an IP Address and DNS Server Address Automatically are both checked. Now go to Start/Run and type CMD and press enter. IN the Command Prompt type ipconfig /release and press enter. the IP Address changes to 0.0.0.0 Now type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter. Now type ipconfig /renew. Now type ipconfig /all. You should have a new IP address try it again. If you still cannot connect please include the text output of your ipconfig /all in your next post

Today I turned on my computer to be met with a blue screen which it says was a registry issue. After looking on forums I found out that people have previously done a startup repair to fix the problem. So, I did this and it asked to do a system restore. After starting up again it refuses to connect to the Internet. It also came up with a message saying that 'Event Log Service is Unavailable'.
I really don't want to wipe the computer and start again because I really like how I've set it up, plus I have managed to lose the disk with Windows 7 on it.
My computer has a wired Internet connection. Restarted the hub, still doesn't work.
Wondering if you could help me.
Thank You,
George

A:Will not connect to Internet after system restore

Hi George, and welcome to TSG.

Try this;

Press the Windows + R keys and in the run box type CMD - click OK

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following commands, each followed by the Enter key: (only type the text in bold)

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot your PC.
