Q: laptop stuck in e-dock

My latitude 5400 won't release from the e-dock. Nothing happens when I press the release button, and I can't manually pull it off. Any ideas?

Preferred Solution: laptop stuck in e-dock

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I would check and make sure that the lock is not enabled on the E-Dock. If you look at the bottom of the right hand side near the rear is a switch. If you haven't tried already make sure that the switch is not set to the locked setting and then check to see if you are able to eject the notebook.

Hi there I have a Lattitude e7470 and i am trying to use it with a Dell E-Port Replicator K07A
The system works OK except for this one scenario.
Laptop is docked and closed and i am working on it. I go to undock the laptop to take it with me somewhere and it does not go to sleep. The power policy says that if the lid is closed and the laptop is on battery then it should go to sleep. Whats going on?
If i undock and immediately open and then close the lid it behaves as expected. Obviously for my user, this is not ideal. he just wants to be able to pick up the laptop and go (having it sleep or hibernate when removed from the dock)
How do i force it to go to sleep when i remove it from the dock? there has to be a way. Laptop is windows 10.

My Windows 7 Operating system is taking a lot of time during Start up.I was looking for an alternative to the regular icons ,scattered all over my desktop. So,i decided to try Docks such as Rocket Dock,Object Dock,Nexus,Rk Launcher or similar dock....It certainly looks beautiful but now i am skeptical if these are causing my system to load very slowly during Windows Start up..

Also, now i am using a Windows Task bar Software which lets me pin any program shortcut on my task bar. So,my task bar is filled up with many icons. Is that the cause of a slow start up or the Docks...

You can use MSconfig to diagnose startup issues. Visit the following link for details;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iku_aPUsVQ4

You can post back with any questions regarding your system services and startup entries to establish their purpose and whether or not they are required at startup.

Taskbar icons are just shortcuts and do not effect the time it takes for starting a computer.

Hi guys, This morning System Update ran and installed a bunch of the newest March 2019 updates. The big one was the Intel Management Engine. After rebooting, when my Thunderbolt 3 Dock is plugged into my Lenovo P52 it freezes on the POST screen with the Lenovo logo. If i unplug the dock it boots fine, plug the dock in after the OS is booted, things work fine. Its just during the POST during secure boot. I tried reflashing the Thunderbolt firmware to the 11/2018 to no avail, reflashed the dock with version 3.x of the firmware (latest) no difference, downgraded the firmware on the dock, changed the boot support methods for thunderbolt, so on and so forth.  Its strange it doesn't get past the logo screen it just sits. Is there another version of the Thunderbolt firmware i should be using besides the November 2018? I really would not like to peel back all the different updates that it updatedAnybody got any ideas? Is there a way to find what the cause is? Honestly i can unplug the dock when i reboot and plug it back in within a second after the POST screen and things work as normal. Its just a pain.

Hello everyone, I recently bought a Thinkpad X1 Extreme and I am now locking for a suitable Thunderbolt 3 dock. Although I've read a lot of posts about various docks I am still a little consfused about which one to choose. It seems like the following ones would all work with the X1 Extreme:1. Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 135W:https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/accessories-and-monitors/docking/universal-cable-docks-thunderbolt/Thun...2. ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock (170W):https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/accessories-and-monitors/docking/universal-cable-docks-thunderbolt/Thun...3. ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock (230W):https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/accessories-and-monitors/top-tech/Thunderbolt-WS-230W-dock-US/p/40AN023... Please correct me if I am wrong but to me it seems as if the only difference between these docks is that the workstation ones come with two AC adapters each and a special Thunderbolt/Power cable to avoid using two different cables. Or are there any other technical differences? So if I am okay with a two cable solution couldn't I just use the Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 135W and connect it via Thunderbolt while at the same time use my 135W AC adapter to charge the laptop? Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi,

I have a Dell E-Port Plus Docking station with USB 3.0 and I'm about the upgrade to a new ultrabook. I currently have a latitude which snaps onto the dock station.

From what I've read the ultrabook can't snap onto the dock...

Its possible to still connect the ultrabook to the docking station, and would it power the laptop still. Think it might be possible via USB 3.0, but I want to make sure before making the purchase.

Thanks

Steve

A:Old Dock, New Laptop

The dock appears to only support certain Dell Precision mobiles. It will not likely work with other models. Does the Ultrabook even have dock port? What model is it? If it does then you'd have to buy a compatible compatible OR if it doesn't you'd have to buy a USB dock. You cannot use your existing dock via USB nor can you charge the laptop through USB.

Got given a Phillips Ipod dock as a gift, which I like, but I'm wondering how I could use it as a speaker for my laptop in addition. No extra cables or connectors came with it, it's a Phillips DS3100. It has on the back room for the power supply, an 'mp3 link', and a usb connector. Picture attached.

http://oi48.tinypic.com/epo53.jpg

I'm assuming it's possible to use it how I want, just wanting confirmation on the best way to do it. Can easily go an buy a cable if I have to.

Thanks.

A:Help using Ipod dock as speakers for laptop

Alright, you aren't even trying. The MP3 link is a standard 1/8" stereo cable. One cable from your headphone jack to the MP3 jack will do the trick. Looks like this on both ends.

I intend to buy the HP Pro x2 612 G2 detachable PC.  This computer has only one USB-C port which is also used for connectivity and charging. I will use this computer to deliver presentations with a projector.  Therfore I will buy the HP USB-C Travel Dock (part # T0K29AA) and connect it to the computer's single USB-C port.  The HP USB-C Travel Dock has two USB ports, one of them is a USB-C port.  The setup will be: the computer will be connected to the HP USB-C Travel Dock and the power supply will be connected to the USB-C port on the HP USB-C Travel Dock.  So the question is:   can the HP Pro x2 612 G2 computer be charged via the HP USB-C Travel Dock? Please help.Thanks.

A:Can a laptop be charged via the HP USB-C Travel Dock?

The USB-C Travel Dock does not have a USB-C port on the dock.  The dock has an HDMI port, a VGA port, an RJ45 port and two USB-A ports.  One of the USB-A ports is a USB 3.0 port (note the SS above the port).  If you wish to charge the 612 x2 G2 via the dock while presenting you will need a different dock. Here are some ideas. HP USB-C Travel Hub (Z9G82AA) http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/4AA6-9305ENW.pdf This Travel Hub provides 1 HDMI port, 1 VGA port, 2 USB-A ports and a USB-C power in port. If you want more capabilities from the dock. HP Elite USB-C Dock (X7W54AA) http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/4AA6-3246ENW.pdf This dock will allow you to charge the 612 x2 G2 and provide you with a USB-C port (SS), 4 USB-A ports (2 of which are SS), an RJ45 port, 2 DisplayPorts, 1 HDMI port and an audio jack.  The dock also comes with a USB-C cable to attach the dock to the 612 x2 G2.   This is a larger dock but it will allow you to connect nearly anything you with to the 612 x2 G2 while still being able to charge the system. Joel

Hi there,

I have the standard docking station for my Lenovo Thinkpad T440s and I'm wondering if it's possible to output sound from both the built-in headphone jack on the laptop itself AND the headphone jack on the back of the docking station. Ideally as individual playback devices in the Win7 settings so I can assign programs to each one.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Cheers,
Walker

Edit: Forgot to mention, my laptop came installed with Realtek HD Audio Manager but I haven't found it helpful in regards to my question above.

A:Using laptop and dock outputs simultaneously

The setting is really in the playback sound properties (right click on the speaker icon). But there you can only assign 1 output device as default.

Having a problem whenever I dock a Lenovo laptop into a docking station (have tried three). None of the USB ports on the dock work with any devices (keyboard, mouse, usb key, etc). All of the USB ports on the laptop work docked or not.

There are no unidentified of malfunctioning devices listed in device manager. The machine has all the latest Lenovo & Windows updates including BIOS.

I know it must be something with the laptop (most likely a board or connector issue), but I am wondering if anyone else have ever had a situation like this and come across a solution I am not considering.

Hi, Everyone. Got me a nice little x270 to replace my old x201.  Happy enough with the machine, but getting it connected to my accessories (monitor, keyb, mouse, ethernet) is a bit of a chore. This machine appears to have a "proper" dock port on the bottom.  Is there a compatible ultradock available for the model 20HN x270?  By proper - I mean, Not USB.  A nice dock I can simply drop the machine into when I'm at the home office.. Thanks!

Hi!
I recently got a new E7470 laptop and as it's my work machine, I have an E-plus dock with it to make it easier to work at the desk. Since the first few times I've tried it, there are a few issues with the dock and the machine though. When docked, the graphics slow down a lot and things like scrolling through web pages take much longer and are no longer smooth.  This is persistent in all programs and makes the computer almost unusable. The dock is powered by a 130W PSU, so there ought to be enough power to keep everything running. When I docked it for the first time, windows 7 installed some drivers but hasn't prompted me for anything else since.
Any ideas on what it could be? As it is, I can't use the dock because the machine response is just too slow to do any useful work.
Cheers,
Kris

Hi, I'm using a Thinkpad Pro dock with an L470 on Windows 10(both brand new). I have a VGA monitor and a DVI monitor connected, and I can output to both screens as well as the laptop display just fine, however as soon as I undock, or switch off the laptop, when I come to use it again, neither of the screens are showing as connected. I have to unplug them from the dock and plug them back in again, at which point they are recognised and work fine... until next time I have to undock/switch off. I have tried this with a different laptop (also L470, but running windows 8.1) with even worse results. On 8.1 the screen will repeatedly flicker for about 10 seconds, and any combination of the screens will work (sometimes just the laptop screen, sometimes just 1 monitor, sometimes all 3). Even when all 3 work, it rarely has the correct resolution, and takes several attempts to get it working properly. The whole point of having a dock is that there is no need to keep plugging things in every time you sit down, if I have to re-plug the monitors every time it is pretty pointless having a dock in the first place. I have updated the BIOS on the laptop, updated every driver, updated the firmware for the dock and Windows 10 is bang up to date. I'm about out of ideas now and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on a fix for this? I see web searches that this is quite a common issue, but most of the "fixes" are what I have already done, or are specific to Windows 7 or 8... Read more

Hi there The sound of my external speakers stops every time after 2 hrs, and then have to be manually re-activated to get sound again. I have from my laptop an hp usb-c dock with hdmi to the hp 27ea screen, and external speakers plugged in the back of the screen. When speakers stop for example in my browser the "active-sound-sign" keeps on.In my volumemixers i see music signals going up and down. When i double-click on the browser-volume the external speaker turns back on. Also, when i un-plug the external speakers the screenspeakers start to sound, and when i re-plug the external speakers they work as well again.  This is very very annoying to do this a few times a day when listing to music or while working with video and sounds.  I turned of all energy-saving switches i could find, and as far as i know my drivers and updates are up to date. The unplug/re-plug thing makes me question where to look next now. Who knows which hidden switch on what device or setting makes this happen and how that can be turned off ?????  Tnx in advance ceesf

Hello all. I have a user with an older X1 Carbon (Machine Type34443444GYU) and a ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock (basic model from what I can see). They've been using it for over a year at the very least but for the last couple of weeks their wired keyboard and mouse on the dock just lock up. The keyboard and touch pad on the laptop work fine. Undocking and redocking do the trick but this happens several times a day with no rhyme or reason. I've run virus scans, hardware diags, done some cleaning on the system, updated all the drivers I can find and I even swapped the entire dock and all of it's cabling for the same model. We had a spare that had never been used. I reinstalled the dock drivers fresh. The only thing I have not had a chance to do is to update the chipset which I saw was availble via Lenovo updates. I intend to do that as soon as I can get access to the system again. If that fails to help does any one have any ideas at all about what to try? Thanks!

We have an office filled with dual monitor Dell e-port docking stations. Usually people have a 24" monitor attached to the E-port Monitor Stand with a dock, and the monitor next to it is a 24" dell monitor.
User arrives into work, clicks their e-port equipped Latitude laptop into the dock, both monitors light up. If the laptop goes to sleep, user reaches back towards the dock where there's the little power button on it to wake up the laptop.
With the newer USB-based multi monitor WD15 docks, how do you wake up your laptop when the lid is closed, since there's no power button on them?
Also, since there's nowhere to physically click the laptops into anymore, what do users do with their laptop? Shove them behind the monitors somewhere? There's very little room on their desks for a 2 monitor + always open laptop setup (nor do they need 3 monitors, they only want 2), so the laptop needs to be lid closed and put somewhere, which worked fine for the e-port docks with the under monitor stand.
Thanks for helping me visualize what to do with this setup. I'd like to upgrade out of my e-port docks and Latitudes but I can't see how it will work out.

A:Latitude 5580 w/ USB Dock and Multi Monitors - What do you do with the laptop?

Waking from sleep is definitely an aggravation.  There are a few threads about this on here; can't remember the exact details.  I know the TB16 dock has a power button, but I believe that's possible because Thunderbolt allows some extra functionality over regular USB-C like the WD15 uses.
In terms of physical placement, if you've got an E-Port Monitor Stand, Dell makes the DS1000 Business Dock Stand, which is essentially a WD15 dock built into a monitor stand, similar to what you have now.  Other than that, some people end up using the laptop with the lid open to use the built-in panel and possibly even the keyboard and mouse.  Otherwise, shoving the laptop behind the displays is certainly an option, I suppose.  You could also perhaps perch the laptop on top of the dock if the environment wasn't likely to cause laptops to be knocked over, or find some sort of stand that was tall enough to allow the WD15 to sit underneath it and wide enough to properly support the laptop that would be sitting above.

A:rocket dock or object dock? pros cons?

Hi Billy,

I don't know why, but I've always used ObjectDock and I've been perfectly happy with it. I don't use any dock software now though as I found I wasn't using it enough to make it worthwhile having - it was just annoying me when I wanted to click things towards the bottom of my screen.

They're both free, so I'd suggest trying ObjectDock and if you don't like it, try RocketDock

They both have a wide range of skins/icons available, so in my eyes, they're evenly positioned.

I have a Dell XPS 15 and a Dell Dock WD15 which has been working fine for a long time but recently the WD15 dock has been acting up after it is re-docked to the laptop.
Everything works fine if I start the laptop with the dock plugged in but after re-docking the USB ports and Network (cabled) stops working. Everything seems fine with the drivers and as said it only happens after re-docking.
I've tried to rollback drivers and even downgrade the FW on the dock but the problem remains. The only way to "fix" it seems to be to restart the laptop after re-docking.
Running Win10 64-bit.
Any suggestions?

Greetings,
Have a new WD15 Thunderbolt dock I am trying to get to work with two monitors connected to an ASUS GL552VW laptop. USBs, ethernet and audio that is connected to dock all work fine. But the VGA and HDMI monitors connected do not. The HDMI monitor works fine when I directly connect it to the laptop, but not when I connect it through the dock.
I have tried the troubleshooting tips in this:

I have installed the ASMedia Host Controller from here, twice for good measure:

ASUS support refuses to help me. I'm working on seeing if I can do the BIOS update.
Any advice? Will this not work with a non Dell laptop?
Thank you very much, quite frustrated.

I'm trying to work with support on this one as well. We have a fleet of ~30 6th gen x1c thinkpads, many hooked up to the Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 dock, model 40AC. Recently, we've had a rash of issues with USB connectivity through the dock. All of sudden, USB connectivity through the dock stops working. Any USB peripherals plugged into the dock no longer function. The resolution is to shut down the computer and use a paper clip to press the hard reset button on the bottom of the computer. If it's a one time thing that's fine, but I have no proof this won't reoccur. I'm brining each machine's drivers up to date with TVSU as I hit the problem, but most are pretty current.  Anyone run into this? Any ideas?

I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise (6.1 bld 7601 sp 1) on a Dell Latitude E7470 laptop at work. I've had this laptop for ~6 months.
For about 2 weeks it has been blue-screening when it's not in the dock, even with no peripherals in use, regardless of location (office or home, etc.). When it's in the dock purrs like a kitten: No crashes, no performance issues, nothing.
Our help desk ran all the diagnostics on it and found no hardware issues. Their recommendation is to set me up with yet another laptop (the current one replaced another bad laptop I got 6 months before that). I would prefer to identify the issue and see
if it can be fixed. It doesn't appear to be related to software, drivers, etc. or settings on the machine. They have looked at the many dumps for clues but nothing shows a clear answer.
No new software or peripherals have been installed during or just prior to this time.

Thank you for any suggestions.

I have a TPY260 with WiGiG dock at the moment, and I use all USB ports on it. Recently, I stumbled on a few lucrative deals for Onelink+ docks. If I add a Onelink+ dock to my setup, will both docks work simultaneously - or is it either WiGiG or Onelink+, not both at the same time?

I recently purchased a Lenovo X1 Carbon Generation 6 laptop, Lenovo Thundebrolt 3 dock and Dell U2717D monitor.  Unfortunatly, I am finding that when I connect the monitor to the dock via mini display port OR full size display port, Windows 10 defaults to a 6-bit color pallete resulting in horrendous banding. Through troubleshooting I have found that: The issue appears specific to Windows 10 -- Ubuntu does not have the same issueThe issue appears specific to display port regardless of cable (mini and full size) -- HDMI does not have the same issue but HDMI only runs at 30hz.The issue appear specific to newer Dell monitors -- I have an older Dell U2715H monitor that also runs at 2560x1440 resolution that does not have this issueI've found a few others reporting the sme issue with other Dell monitors but what I have not found is a resolution.  Dell has suggested that I try a USB-C to mini Display port cable which I am considering but I'd really hate to throw good money after bad and so am also contemplating a return. Anyone else out there have this issue? Is there  way to force the color depth to 8-bit like it should be all along?

When the P50 is docked with the lid closed, my two Dell 23" monitors (P2317H) connected via  2 Display Ports both recieve a signal from the dock. When the lid is opened, one monitor will lose signal. I have updated the Nvidia driver on the P50, as well as the firmware on the dock, which did not resolve the issue.  I have also tested this with a differnt P50, dock, monitors, and cables with the same result. OS: Windows 10 64-bitHardware: Lenovo ThinkPad P50, Lenovo ThinkPad Ultra Dock 40A2, Dell 23" Monitors P2317H

My company has issue me a Lenovo T470s and an Ultra Dock to replace my existing equipment. I have two external monitors connected to the docking station with display port cables. The problem that I am experiencing is that if the laptop is docked and the cover is open, I get video on the laptop display and one external monitor. The other external monitor gets no signal and goes to sleep. If I close the laptop cover, I get video on both external monitors. A co-worker told me that this was working as designed and that the solution for getting video on all three monitors was to connect one external monitor to one of the display ports and the other to the DVI port. (He hadn't tested this configuration and is using two display ports with the laptop cover closed.) I tried my coworker's suggestion and got the same result but prior to switching to DVI, I downloaded and installed the latest(?) driver for the HD Graphics 620 adapter from this website (lenovo.com) and that seemed to solve the problem (when using two display ports) but after shutting the laptop down, I had the same issue the next day. What I want, is to have the laptop cover open and still be able to use two external monitors and get optimal resolution on all three monitors. What's the best configuration for achieving this? (Don't guess, like my co-worker. Give me something you've tested and that you can confirm that it works.)

I have a Yoga laptop and a ThinkPad USB 3.0 Pro Dock. When my external speakers are plugged into the dock and selected as default in Windows, audio still plays through the laptop rather than the speakers. If I plug the speakers directly into the laptop, music plays through the speakers. I purchased the dock so that I wouldn't have to plug and unplug all the accessories. What do I need to do to get audio to play through the dock?
