Need help with some serious preview/playback issues (Elgato 4K60PRO Xbox One X)

Q: Need help with some serious preview/playback issues (Elgato 4K60PRO Xbox One X)

I originally submitted a ticket to Elgato about this issue a few days ago, but was just told that my PC's specs weren't new enough to use this device. The ticket I submitted reads as follows:

"Hi. I recently installed an Elgato 4K60 Pro in my PC (replacing my outdated Hauppauge HDPVR60) to record footage at 4K 60FPS OR 1080p60FPS from my Xbox One X and am currently experiencing some serious issues with playback, making the footage that I record almost unwatchable.

When attempting to record in any of the given resolutions listed in the drop down menu of the 4K Capture Utility (even 720), the preview window always seems to appear choppy and is constantly stuttering. I first thought that this choppy-ness was just part of the preview window and that the footage would sort of 'work itself out' upon actual playback (opening the file in some sort of media player once I had stopped recording) but I was wrong. After opening the file, I found that the stuttering (along with what looked like the footage was being sped up) was still present, as it was in the preview window. I don't have too much experience with Elgato capture devices as this is my first time purchasing one of your products and am curious, am I doing something wrong? I've installed the correct capture software. I've installed the correct drivers for the 4K60 Pro from the official site. I've tried playing around with various setting configurations within the 4K Capture Utility such as changing the video encoder and changing the output format, but have had no luck thus far.

The one thing that I tried (that somewhat made a difference) to resolve this issue was changing my export location to a SSHD as opposed to a normal HDD. The video appeared to be slightly less choppy, but still very unappealing to the eye. This got me thinking that this could have something to do with the write speed of the drive, as the SSHD's is faster than that of a HDD, but I could be entirely wrong. Another issue I noticed in doing this, is that sometimes the program will fail to write data to the drive completely, leaving me only with a 3 second clip of what I was doing. I would be "recording" with the capture utility for about 5 minutes, and I can see that the activity on the drive has just stopped (task manager) soon after pressing the Record button, but the software still indicates I'm recording when that's obviously not the case.

Any help/input on these issues is vastly appreciated. I've attached a picture of the settings I'm using, and a .txt of my PC specs. And here's a link to a video, showing the stutter.

Thanks in advance."

Some things I'd like to point out:

I have in fact tried to record using OBS, and still get the same results along with some added severe screen tearing.
The footage is choppy when I RECORD in ANY RESOLUTION while my input resolution is 4K60FPS. However something I've noticed while playing around with the 4K Capture Utility, is that setting the "EDID (Internal)" option to either 1080p or 1440p (rather than Default) in conjunction with setting the "Input EDID Mode" option to Internal absolutely fixes the issue and I'm able to record 1080p60 no problem. The only reason I'm not content with that being a permanent solution is that I'm only able to see 1080p on my TV as opposed to 4K. This is because I'm using the 4K60 Pro as a pass-through device, which means my Xbox One X sees it and treats it like a TV (ie, the X won't spit out 4K if the capture card won't accept 4K). This pretty much eliminates the purpose of spending $800 on a 4K TV.
The main reason I got this card wasn't necessarily to record in 4K 60fps (although I do love having the option to, and will use it when I can) but was so I could record 1080p60fps and get that exported to an external HDD, but still see 4K on the output end of the card, live in real time (ie, on my TV). So I game in 4K, but record it in 1080, makes sense? It's a little difficult to describe. I apologize for any confusion.

Things I have done to try and fix the stuttering:

Updated BIOS to the newest version
Set my Power Plan to "Performance" rather than "Balanced"
Trying almost every single setting combination that is available within the 4K Capture Utility
I'm aware that I have a graphics card that is one whole generation behind the recommended (same with my processor) but I fail to see how that would impact the way the 4K60Pro handles the 4K input from my Xbox One X (if it was with the recording resolution, then yes I would understand).

TLDR: I'm making this post to just get some answers to these questions; is there ANY way for me to be able to have my input resolution from my Xbox One X be 4K60fps, and my record resolution be 1080p60fps without the constant stuttering and choppyness? Or will I have to spend nearly $1200 (in addition to the already spent $399 of the 4k60pro) to upgrade my graphics card and my processor simply because I just want to be able to SEE 4K while gaming, but record at 1080? Please, if you're going to tell me something along the lines of "Your PC's not good enough" please tell me why, or how exactly upgrading either of those 2 components would change the results as I'm genuinely curious.

Here is what I'm 'complaining' about : https://streamable.com/8pzwv

Just for reference this was recorded by me, with the input resolution being 2160p60 and the record resolution being set at 1080p60.

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and hoping to find some help, my PC runs fine without issues untill i try to run elgato software, when i do i get a blue screen of death, always at the same point, it used to work fine untill about a week ago, then one day i opened the program and it crashed, i tried to uninstall and it would crash again, i tried to install afresh and everytime it gets to the same point and then BSOD, the software programme no longer shows up in my apps list, the hardware no longer shows up in OBS either.
I'm at a loss and don't want to do a reboot and start again.
I have attached a file that may shed some light on this issue.

Many Thanks Scaloni777

Hi guys, I am using DVD Xpress to transfer my old VCR VHS tapes to DVD. I am finding in the playback preview window a lot of jagged interference at the bottom of the screen. The central area is okay but the bottom edge about a quarter of an inch at the bottom is very jerky and jagged. Any ideas what this is and how I can fix it? When I record it the recording retains the interference. Cheers

Hi, I've tried google-ing this problem but am no computer whiz and couldn't find a solution:

The issue is that the video files from my camera don't show previews in any of the programs I use (My Pictures or Adobe Bridge) and only playback in VLC. They are .MOV files, but even when converted to AVI I have the same problem.

I tried the media preview prompt (regsvr32 shmedia.dll) but no difference.

Older AVI files from my previous camera work just fine. I don't know if this is a problem with the camera, Adobe, VLC or Windows, so don't know where to look for answers.

Any help would be great.

I've tried using both wired and wireless Xbox 360 controllers with the headset as the Default Communication Device for gaming. Everything works fine except for my headset audio, which has severe stuttering or choppiness. It's not just a little crackle or pop, but if somebody starts talking, it'll get stuck on the first syllable and repeat it over and over.

If somebody simply says "Hi", it sounds like, "H - h - h - h - h - i - i - i -i" over the course of 30 seconds or so.

I've tried updating drivers for the controller and the wireless receiver, but I still haven't had any luck. Even doing the audio test in Windows audio settings stutters, so it seems to be any audio - not just online chat, etc. Sometimes, it'll work perfectly for a minute, but always goes back to stuttering. It appears entirely random, so I'm at a loss here.

Any ideas?

My Elgato HD 60 has what i call a glitch no clue what its actually called, but static pops up on the preview screen and it records it like that static and no audio. If you know how to fix that then thank you that would help a lot.

My real question is, is my processor to weak for the capture to work. I have a Intel Pentium CPU G2020 @ 2.90GHz. The system requirements for CPU are 4th generation Intel Core i5 CPU (i5-4xxx or comparable), 2 Ghz or higher, before Turbo Boost.

I really dont know much about computers so i dont know how to figure out almost any of this stuff.

Since doing a clean install of my Win 7 pro about a month ago, I've been experiencing playback issues when I attempt to play larger files using WMP 12 and sometimes the GOM player as well. I get both picture distortion and lag when I attempt to skip thru a video using WMP and just the lag when I use GOM. When I try to skip forward and the picture pauses for a second before moving on.

I tried using both the VLC and KLM players and had no issues with the same videos. I didn't have ANY issues with playback before the reinstall and have no issues with other large files(.mkv, mp4).

Thanks in advance.

VLC comes in handy, but I really prefer WMP. Have you tried the K-Lite package? It installs just about every codec imaginable and you can choose to have them associated with your WMP. It usually wants to install Media Player Classic, but I believe you can uncheck that option. I used to have a hard time playing large mkv and wav files until I installed K-Lite.

Hello all,

The primary app I use for media playback is jetAudio. I have always been pleased with it's performance, but recently it has begun to act strangely.

==================================

Primary Issue:

If any MP3 is loaded after any M4A, jetAudio will play the MP3 at half speed. Switching from MP3 to M4A files/playlists exhibits no problem, but the reverse consistently causes the slowed down playback. If an MP3 file/playlist is loaded before any M4A has been loaded it will play normally, but any MP3 played after M4A will be half speed.

Troubleshooting:

The only way to resume normal MP3 functionality is to restart jetAudio and not play any M4A's. I tried a fresh install of jetAudio, but the issue remains. I have searched for solutions to this problem, but it seems to be rare.

Possible Causes:

This started happening very recently, and seemed to show up shortly after I edited some tags with AudioShell. (I might have done a registry "cleanup" with CCleaner around that time too)

This is a quite serious issue for me as it severely hinders uninterrupted music playback, which is a must in my opinion. I submitted a ticket to COWON support, but their response was "our devs will look at this". I am not yet ready to give up on jetAudio, so I am open to any suggestions on fixes for this. Thanks for your help!

Hello, I just found out about this site and thought this would be a good place to ask about this problem that I've been having for a few months now.

For these said months, WMV's have been performing VERY poorly on my computer. Before, I used to be able to playback WMV's made in Windows Movie Maker with no problems at all.

Now, for some reason, WMV's (moreso those made in WMM. Others made outside of WMM seem to work fine) play very choppy, and it eats up a lot of processing power. Sometimes, these videos are choppy to the point where they are completely unwatchable. I blame this on the installation of a video editor I installed called Sony Vegas, as these problems didn't spark until after I got it.

Can anyone help me on this?

Howdy! I have a friend who owns a really nice Toshiba laptop - huge screen, way cool. Well, a week ago she put in a DVD and it didn't play right - probably a tenth of the top of the movie was relocated to the bottom of the screen. Now, this only happens with some DVDs - not all of them. The problem is also consistent throughout the entire playback of the movie (well, I took a pseudo random-sampling of the whole playback and extrapolated to the other parts). Some movies also have lines of the video (horizontal and vertical) jump erratically back and forth for a few seconds. And yes, I did check the discs for scratches and grime - they were actually very clean.

I THINK it's an issue with her codex, but I didn't really know. This forum has never led me wrong, so any help I could get to help her would be awesome! I did a search of other posts, didn't really find anything like this. Thanks!

Hi Xdelx, Welcome to PCHF!

To be honest both of those systems seem pretty low end. What is your budget for a new computer?

Here are the general Elgato Game Capture HD System Requirements.

Windows:

? Windows 7, Windows 8 or later
? 2.0 Ghz (or higher) dual core CPU, or 2.0 Ghz (or higher) multi-core i3, i5 or i7 CPU
? Sound card
? 4GB Total Installed RAM (or higher)
? Built-in USB 2.0 port

You should get a computer that is well above the minimum system requirements. You may be able to run the software with either of those systems but not particularly well.

So my laptop was playing all my videos fine, till I realised that nearly every video would jerk a bit and get choppy a bit every few minutes. I thought it may be cos I had several other programs open at the same time, but then even after I closed those programs it still happened.

I searched on google, and even on other posts, and tried the methods there..still nothing...

There was this tool that checks whether the HDD channel has been changed to PIO and then changes it back to DMA...this tool even said that there were no channels to change.
another thing i saw in my device manager was that under the IDE/ATAPI controllers, instead of "primary channel" "secondary channel" and so forth, i had several ATA channels from about 0-2.

i reinstalled windows, completely wiped my HDD and now i jus watched a movie and it seems to be back to the same thing. I use VLC media player and its the same on WMP too..

i also downloaded the latest driver for my graphics card yesterday...

anyone got any ideas?

In other words it acts like a movie on Itunes where it resumes even if I close the program and reopen it. The songs won't restart.

Hi,
I tried to play Batman Begins on bluray on my computer a couple of days back using power dvd 10 ultra and it didn't play properly, the video appeared to be scrambled (see attached file(apologies for the poor quality, but you get the idea)), the audio is absolutely fine, it's just the video. My computer should be well up to playing blurays (i have done with no problem in the past), some of its specs are as follows:
Windows 7 pro 64 bit
Intel core 2 duo @ 2.66GHz
6 GB ddr2 ram
Nvidia geforce 250gts with 1GB ddr3 VRAM
etc.
I've tried updating power dvd to no avail, i've also tried cleaning the lenses in the drive, again, to no avail. I know it's not the disc because i also tried the dark knight on blu ray and got the same problem.
I've pretty much ran out of ideas so any suggestions would be helpful.

Bit of a strange one that has me baffled.
I have a Compaq pc, it has an LG GGC-H20l blue ray player which came pre bundled with Cyberlink Powerdvd 7 ultra.

This didnt help at all, as now the software Powerdvd 7 just crashes when play is clicked. Am awaiting assistance from Cyberlink. They did send me links to download the software and patch, but that had the same effect,

So I tried Arcsoft blue ray software, the same result.

I then decided to test PowerDvd 9 Ultra, and that crashed. BUT, I tried using Windows Media Centre, and it got as far as Loading Blue Ray Movie, then crashed, but said it was a security issue, I had to change my DVi monitor for a VGA one. Very odd I thought..

Luckily I had a 15 lcd VGA monitor here to try, so I changed them over, and low and behold the Blue ray film now plays.

Im gutted as my dvi monitor is 19" widescreen and is a much nicer picture and the 15" is just that 15" and small... anyone know why this is the case with blue ray security? Im not quite sure of the message it gave, just basically said my current digital display was not possible due to security on the film disc, and that I should try a VGA analogue display. ( I thought the whole idea of blue ray was to be digital... for quality? )

My games all play fine etc on large screen.

Im wondering if this is why so many peopl... Read more

HDCP ensures that you are sending your signal to an approved display device. If you send your image out digitally then the device receiving it must support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection.) If you are watching this via an analog connection then the output is at a reduced resolution.

It starting happening bout a week ago I think. Everything was fine and then suddenly I was having issues and I can't seem to connect the issue with anything I might have done.

OS: XP SP3
GeForce Go 7600 Graphics
Toshiba A100 Laptop

Okay the problem is when I play a DVD in WMP and try to full screen it I get a black screen. Audio is fine and video works fine when not in full screen but the minute I put it in full screen the video is gone. Thinking this was something stupid with WMP I tried the DVD in VLC, I don't get video at all in VLC, just grey screen and sound. The strangest part is I had it working a moment ago and have no idea how or why, it just stared working and now it won't again.

Video works fine for non-DVD vids. Actually that's not true I just realized. I've been using Winamp for the vids downloaded to my laptop, just opened one with WMP, oddly enough the video only shows up in full screen otherwise black screen. But it works fine in full screen and out in VLC.

I've scanned for malware and viruses and came up clean. I haven't updated anything or changed anything that I can think of that would have caused this problem. It seemed to happen out of no where. One day I'm watching DVD's fine, a few days later I'm getting black screens all over the place.

Might be hardware overlay problems. For diagnostics, try turning off hardware acceleration for a bit and see if it goes away. http://www.deskshare.com/Resources/a...eleration.aspx If it plays normally with hardware acceleration off, then hardware overlay is the likely culprit. Be sure after the test to put hardware acceleration to max again, because when it's off, that takes a huge hit on performance. As for solving your problem, look in the advanced settings for your video card and see if there are any settings you can toggle for hardware overlay. Also check for the latest drivers for your graphics card. If they're already the latest, try rolling back the drivers.

Hello,
I have been trying to use an authoring tool called WIN-AVI converter
to change an .avi file to .vob, and then to burn it to DVD disc using
nero burning rom 6.

But when I attempt to play on my panasonic S27 player, the image
is in black and white, though the picture and sound quality are great.

My burner is an LG 16x super multi dvd rewriter (8.5gb double layer)

I googled my panasonic player, and apparently it should be able
to play dvd +r's no problem

Any suggestions?

A:DVD burning/playback issues

Have you checked your DVD player settings? Try popping in another DVD and see if it plays that in black and white mode as well. If yes, then its the settings of the DVD player and if not, then maybe something is wrong with the way settings in Nero when you burn the DVD.

About a week ago, I had a problem with sound on my computer. It started off when Windows Media player would not play files on my playlist (This is not a codec problem, I have CCCP installed). It would say: "cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device." It would go through the songs in my playlist, marking them with an "X", until the sound works again and it is able to play the song.

The problem got even worse when system sounds would stop playing. Videos on YouTube did not work. So I think the sound problem is universal.

Also, the song playing on Windows Media Player would sometimes "skip," around 20 seconds before the song ended. I looked on the Microsoft page and the recommendations were to reinstall the sound driver.

I updated and installed the sound driver several times, and it still did not fix anything.

My laptop model is Sager np5165, I don't have a dedicated sound card, and I'm running 64x Windows 7.

A:Issues with sound and playback

Just for the sake of trying to narrow the problem down and gather additional information, have you tried playing these problem files using a media player other than Windows Media Player? In other words, it might or might not be a codec issue, or it might be an audio driver issue.

The error message about 'cannot play because of an error with your sound device" certainly suggests an audio driver problem, not a codec problem. Since System Sounds also stopped working that would again strongly suggest it's a basic audio driver problem.

Incidentally, I still am of the opinion that installation of outside codec packs (e.g. Shark, Klite, CCCP, etc.) are unnecessary and potentially harmful to Win7. I certainly have learned NOT to install them on my own Win7 as they impacted Windows Media Center, Windows Media Player, and my ability to successfully run the Windows Experience Index (which is required in order to install TV capability in Windows Media Center, and the failure of WEI required a full reinstall WITHOUT OUTSIDE CODEC PACKS in order to solve the problem). But that's another matter.

However I'm still suggesting that you at least try and see if (a) Winamp and (b) VideoLAN VLC, can play these problem files. I would think they would fail as well if this is a driver issue, but it still would be a worthwhile experiment.
The Sager Notebook support site for the NP5165 shows that there was an audio driver update back in May 2011. Have you downloaded and installed this u... Read more

For a while now, I've had issues playing youtube videos primarily on firefox, though the issue extends to other browsers as well.
If i am superpatient, I can generally refresh the video and get it to play but that can take as little as 3 times and as many as 50+ attempts.
What i see in each case is the circle of dots that makes it appear as something is loading. I have followed closely all steps on youtube's problem shooting site and even attempted to post for help on youtube, but have not gotten an answer of any kind from a single person.
I cannot trace an exact start time to this and have checked to see that flash was updated as well as other suggested items.
I do run avast! as an antivirus and firewall, but even through making changes have not been able to get consistent playback in videos.
Other players such as vimeo or proprietary sites seem unaffected.
Can anyone provide something I may be missing, or some guidance into this?

Ok, this is a bit complicated.

My current problem is that some songs in my Itunes library are playing too fast, and playing choppy. Specifically, songs that are near 128 kbps bit rate. I have confirmed it plays 256, 192, 96, and 80 kbps bit rates just fine. I have also confirmed it has the issue with 128, 127, 125, and 124 kbps bit rates. I've also confirmed when starting the songs with the problem, my processor jumps to 100% use shortly, and hovers around 60% up from around 7%. The process using resources was simply ITunes. My current version of Itunes is 9.2.1.4.

The problem started when I replaced a Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card (doa) with a Radeon HD 4650 graphics card. So you don't have to think about it, that card comes with an hdmi audio that I am not using.

Unfortunately, at nearly the same time (before I tried Itunes) I also installed a new version of Itunes. I believe I went from a 9.1.something to the current version.

My attempts so far have been:

1. Installing an older version of Itunes, failed because library file was created by newer Itunes .

2. Installed newest drivers for graphics card and hdmi audio component. Did this twice, when I installed, then after the problem.

3. Uninstalled completely, then reinstalled drivers. Starting to get peeved at this point.

4. Uninstalled completely and reinstalled both Itunes and quicktime.

5. Followed suggestions found on ITunes website found here.

The first thing you'll need to do is download and install Vista x64 drivers for all your hardware devices, specifically in this case you sound and display hardware.

Then you'll also need to get the proper codecs installed, which you can get here - Vista Codec Package Homepage. Download both the x86 and x64 versions. If you still experience problems after installing the x64 codecs (which your x86 programs might not be able to use), then install the x86 codecs.

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me with a little problem I'm having at present.

A few days ago my computer's video playback suddenly picked up the habit of getting 'stuck' when I try to play videos in youtube, google video, etc. It usually gets to about 20 seconds or so and then stops loading anymore of the video up.
If I then move the slider at the bottom of the video forwards into an area that has not yet loaded, it will start playing from that point and again will only load about 20 seconds of the video from that point.

I'm finding this most frustrating and have tried re-installing Java (6 Update 10) and Adobe flash (version 10). What's more the problem is there in both Firefox and IE and I have tried updating and reinstalling those too but to no avail.

Does anyone have any ideas or advice they can offer up on this issue? I suspect it's something glaringly obvious that I'm overlooking!

Thanks for taking the time to read this,

This is really pissing me off, I've spent hours trying to figure this out to no avail. I cannot believe the limited results from google on this subject.

I have having monitor dimming issues when watching dvds with my PC. When I watch DVDs in fullscreen with either windows media player 11, media player classic, or the VLC player, the whole monitor will dim at any random time! This dimming issue does not discriminate between any of the 3 players I have.

The dimming happens anytime during the movie, seemingly more often during the darker scenes, and almost every time AFTER I right click on screen during the movie for window menu options. The only way for me to fix this is to exit fullscreen, and "unmaximize" the window, then I can see parts of the desktop, and the whole monitor will brighten back to normal, then sometimes I return it to full screen and it happens again right away -.-'. This will never end unless I find a solution, please help.

Firstly, thank you in adavanec for any help i recieve. Now onto my problem...

For Months now i have suffered from having my WMP have a playback issue. When i look at video's in it it will randomly just consume the entire video screen within WMP into a greeen screen almost causing the program to lock up. the audio continues tio play undisturbed but the green screen remains until i close the player. I have also tried many codec packs hoping that was the solution but to no avail.

Now i have tried many solutions to this problem including updating to WMP11, acquiring the latest drivers from MSI and Nvidia for my GeForce FX 5500 card. Now an important note to mention is that this only occurs in WMP. When i use VLC there is absolutely no playback issues and this are fine. I understand that i can go on using the VLC for my playback but i am pleased with the User interface on WMP11 and i'd like to be able to determine the source of the problem and a solution to have an optimal video viewing experience.

I aplolgize if this problem has been mentioned before but me and all my friends are stumped on the problem.

Thank you in Advance.

Are you sure that the files you're playing are working properly elsewhere? There are quite a few shoddy avi's on the net, where sync is lost between sound and image... This is due to bad encoding and not bad playback, so it might not be anything you can do about it...

Also, you can download gspot to find out which codecs the avi requires to play properly...

Hey, recently I got myself an Elgato HD60 Pro. Without thinking (stupid me), I bought it and found out I have to put it in an I BELIEVE PCI-E 2 slot. But anyways, the slot is directly underneath the slot my GPU is placed. Now, my GPU is pretty big due to the fan meaning it blocks of the slot for my Elgato, meaning I can't plug both my Elgato and my GPU in at the same time.

My GPU doesn't have USB (I've seen a few PCI risers online but they all need USB as far as I understand). Is there a way to - without getting a new motherboard etc - get them both in (I thought of some extension thing for my GPU so I can place my GPU somewhere without directly putting it in the slot)

Sorry if this is messy written, hopefully it's understandable. I have no experience with hardware whatsoever.
