Grabbing sound clips/samples

Q: Grabbing sound clips/samples

just wondering if Firefox has an extension that I might be able to use to grab audio samples from the internet...there's this one sample I found, but you can't download it, just listen to it. If Firefox doesnt have anything like that, then how about a free program that does?

Preferred Solution: Grabbing sound clips/samples

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Grabbing sound clips/samples

Does the terms of the site say the sample is copyright? Maybe they've tried to protect it for that reason.

Hi all, firstly hope this is the right forum
I have a real basic knowledge about pc's and want to learn more as i go with your help thanks.
I recently (4 months ago ish) formatted and everything runs spot on except i have a slight problem with the windows sound samples !
Example, when i click to empty the recycle bin the bin empties as i get a very short stutter of sound followed by the rest of the bin empty sound occuring after it has emptied !!! did that make sense ?
What im failing to explain is the windows sound samples seem to come 2 seconds after the event like it needs to catch up.This stutter before full sample applies to any beep, ding, dong or dung
Hope someone understands my babble.
Thanks for any response.

Hi

Does anyone know where I can get or compare samples of music online that range from the best quality to the average so that I can perhaps decide what is best for me. Some background - I have the remnants of a half decent Hi-Fi system with a decent amp and speakers and have a quality sound card for the computer (Creative SB X-Fi Titanium HD) and after having listened to vinyl for decades I hope I can still appreciate the difference between good and average quality even at my age. I gather that EAC is thought of as perhaps the best option for ripping CDs and would like to know if it is worth the effort over simpler methods. From what I have gleaned from various forums it is essentially down to your own hearing ability. The storage aspect doesn't bother me as I don't tend to play my music on mobile devices that much.

Thanks for any help.

A:Sound samples before I start ripping - wouldn't want to waste my time

A "wav" file is a full fidelity file. Any compressed type file, e.g. MP3, FLAC or whatever is "something less than full fidelity". How much less depends on the compression. I don't know of anyplace that has a comparision between different file formats. The best option would be to make them yourself and then compare to see if you want to use one of the compressed formats or stay with the full fidelity wav file.

Another thing to consider, if you convert a wav file to some compressed format, you cannot recover the full fidelity if you convert it back to a wav file; it will be at the fidelity of the compressed file.

The "best" option obviously is the wav format.

I have a computer based recording studio.

I have just recently, through the continued benefit of this forum, removed a Malware program entitled Malware Defense. During the time I was infected, I would occasionally hear what I took to be sound clips of television commercials. These pestering advertisements have not ceased. Hi there.

I am getting random sound clips on my laptop. Its really annoying. The sound clips sound like tv adverts or music. They happen randomly and regardless of any programs I've opened.

I have Microsoft Essentials virus protection and Malwarebytes antivirus. I have done full scans on both and they havent detected any virus. Clearly there is something wrong.

I also tried to look at the processes on task manager when the sound clip is running. The only change on task manager that I can see when the sound clips are playing is on process explorer.exe. It shoots up from CPU 2 to about 30. I cant see anything else.

I have also noticed that before the sound clip starts a window opens indicating a script error on a webpage that I havent been on. It asks whether you want to continue with this page, yes or no.

Initially I was annoyed but I'm now a little concerned that perhaps someone might be hacking into my laptop.

Any ideas anyone would be appreciated.

My computer plays random sound clips off and on. They are mostly ads and sound effects, but sometimes radio or music snippets. They play for at most 4 minutes and as frequently as every hour.

Nothing shows up in the task manager and none of the processes (like perfs.exe) usually associated with these symptoms are present. The sounds cannot be stopped, but I can mute the single process. By going to the sound mixer, I see that there is a "Host Service" running. Muting that turns off the sound, but (obviously) the host service is still running.

Also, during my work web conferencing using the program Blackboard Collaborate, smiley faces are randomly entered into the chat box when I leave it idle for longer than 3-4 minutes.

Thank you!

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan/rootkit.

This type of infection allows hackers to remotely control your computer, log keystrokes, steal critical system information, and download and execute files without your knowledge.

I've tried using malawarebytes, norton, adaware but they could not solve the problem. I tried following directions 6-9 but after running the gmer program it says that i have an infected rootkit but at this point the computer is really sluggish and i can't save the file. I basically have to press the power button until the computer reboots. I've tried this 3 times already. Tried to run gmer a couple more times and each time the computer gets very slow at the end and then when i try to save it freezes up completely. Then I tried to run in safe mode, but when i did this everything on the screen is very big and I can't get change the resolution of the screen, I can't reach the save button on the gmer window to save it. The last time I ran gmer in normal mode I got a blue screen error in the middle of it.

I have a mini 4 track digital recording studio that saves musical data to a SmartMedia card. But what I am now trying to figure out is how to record 45-minute compositions from a cassette tape to my digital recorder as a one track recording. The fact that I have a 32mb card allows me to fit only 33 minutes of music on it at a time at the most. I would like to be able to record the first part of a 45-minute music composition onto my recorder and then store that data onto my hard drive as either a .wav file or an .mp3, then erase the card, and record the rest of the tape onto the digital recorder for a second file on my computer. So, is it possible, using MusicMatch Jukebox, to create a file 45-minutes long from two separate shorter-length music files? And if so, how do I do it?

A:Using Musicmatch Jukebox to make sound clips

I don't think you can. You'd have to find a MP3/WAV splicer/combiner, there's many good ones that are free.

Okay, lately, my computer has had a bunch of issues. I had 'AntiSpyware' which tried disguising itself as Windows Security Center, and I *think* I managed to get rid of that (Deleted two files and the registry component associated with it, unfortunately don't remember the exact details of it)

However, I have another problem which has been happening a lot, and I've seen lots of other people mention it online, but haven't found a solution that has worked for me yet, my iexplore.exe is constantly playing clips, and sometimes they go on extensively, I've had the problem for about two weeks now and have downloaded many, many programs to try and fix it. (Adaware, Spybot Search and Destroy, Panda, and several others), however, at some point in having those various programs, the issues on my computer got worse (I suspect too many programs blocking each other), and have since uninstalled all of them:

One other thing, which may or may not be related to this, I am for the most part completely unable to download and install any Spyware/Malware programs. I managed to get Prevx only by downloading the randomized filename. However, since its not a free program, and I don't feel safe using my CC on the internet at the moment, I wasn't able to pay for it and disinfect my system. (It has found 6 things, but it randomizes the names)

A few weeks ago I upgraded my HP laptop from Vista Home Premium 32bit to 7 Professional 32bit using a clean install. Ever since that install, the sound makes a small or noticeable clip/stutter every minute or so whenever I play music. Its been getting annoying, and I don't know how to get rid of it.

Its been doing this since I've installed Win7. When I installed Win7, windows provided its own basic drivers for everything except my display driver. I noticed the problem, I figure it would disappear after I installed the Realtek drivers.

A week or so ago, Windows Update provided me with realtek drivers. I believe the driver helped, but not much. The problem is still noticeable. I registered to this website and found that new drivers were out (2.40). I installed that, but it didn't get rid of the problem (I think it even made it worse). Windows update noticed I changed drivers and asked me to install the previous one I had again. I did.

I believe this only happens when I play music. This problem occurs with iTunes and Pandora.com (stream radio using Flash). I haven't noticed it when I stream or play videos online (flash or WMP). I haven't noticed it when I am playing music through Windows Media Player.

I installed Ubuntu and it currently sits on a different partition. Ubuntu does not share the same issues as Windows 7 is experiencing at all. Ubuntu was installed after I noticed the problem.

I can't test this on a game, I don't have any installed.

Haven't done this for a couple years, forgot how.

I thought I had done it with Yahoo IM, but now I can't
seem to find anything that will let me do that.

The webcam turns on when I go into Yahoo IM, but
I don't want to IM or webchat, I want to record a video
clip with sound.

I can't even find the program for the webcam now in
the computer.

Is there a decent separate program I can use?

Or, can anyone steer me in the right direction so
I can just use my existing Yahoo IM program?

Thanks so much!

So with my own research and trying to fix things myself i know i've got routing and perfs and had/have indt2.sys. Somewhere i read that these programs might be the cause of these random sound clips that play on my laptop occasionally. They're sometimes advertisements, sometimes they sound like movie previews, and sometimes its just techno music for about 5 seconds.

That is the main source of my frustration, although i'd bet that there is some other spyware that i don't realize I have.

Norton was originally installed, but after it expired AVG free version was used with spybot search and destroy.
I've tried removing some of the files i've found to be malware by myself, but they mostly keep coming back (especially routing and perfs)

I'm so annoyed!

Problem: I hear random short bits of sound clips at random intervals sometimes they are not as clear as others and sometimes they are really soft. They are mostly advertisements seems to be mostly for the new HTC phone. I also get random web pages that pop up after I do a search on Bing instead of going to the results page I'll get the yellowpages.com site or something else very random
I am now, just as I write this, getting a Thread detected by AVG. However I don't have the option to do anything about it. Dropper.generic_c.MMI Is the Trojan name.

WHAT I HAVE TRIED:
1. I've already used AVG updated and scanned computer. I had some minor Trojans, and took care of it.
2. I still hear the sounds bits, so I tried to catch it on my Task Manager. I found one that started with an A I thought it was audi.exe but it flashed so fast I couldn't see it the next time it came up I deleted the sucker. I thought for sure that was it. NOPE about an hour later the annoying audio is back.
3. I found this past thread and tried to find what they suggest were the culprit: perfs.exe indt2.sys or PERFS.exe. Can't find them in my Task Manager, and yes I'm looking at ALL users. I tried sorting by name can't find it, I tried sorting by CPU usage to see if anything else looked questionable, nothing.
I've tried what I know how to do, so that brings me here. Can someone help me?
I'm for me to step away from the computer before I hurt myself.

Hello. I have a two month old HP Pavilion DV6500 Notebook PC. It has an AMD Turion 64X2 TL-60 2GHz processor and 2GHz of RAM. It has never ran without an active virus/anti-spyware software on it. It doesn't bog down or give me any serious fits. About 10 days ago it started playing about a one second clip of sleigh bells at random times of the day or night. Last night it played, for the first time, the sound of an old fashion cash register "cha-ching". I've rescanned my system with both antivirus and anti-spyware software and both have come up clean. UPDATE 4/22/2012: I figured since this was a sound problem I should probably check my sound mixer on the taskbar (derp). Turns out all the sound is coming from something called "Media Dashboard", and it is labelled with a Windows logo (looks like the start button). I have muted the sound as a quick fix, but I still want to get rid of the damn thing.

Hello,

My computer started blaring sound clips through the speakers yesterday, some British ADs, but mostly terrible hip-hop music. It's not coming through and program or process. I have tried everything I can think of, and even though it goes away for maybe 15 minutes when I restart, it comes back immediately after that. Could someone please help me? Let me know if there is any other information I can give you.

Much thanks!

Hi Seraphite and welcome to BP, my name is Mark and I will be helping you.We are in the process of researching and investigating your log. Please be patient as we develop a fix for your specific problems. Before doing anything further, if you have not already done so, you should back up all your important documents, personal data files and photos to a CD or DVD drive as some infections may render your computer unbootable during or before the disinfection process. If that occurs there may be no option but to reformat and reinstall the OS or perform a full system recovery. The safest practice is not to backup any files with the following file extensions: exe, .scr, .ini, .htm, .html, .php, .asp, .xml, .zip, .rar, .cab as they may be infected. How to Backup Data in Windows XP Home - How to install the Backup utilityHow to Backup Data in Windows XP Pro and VistaHow to Back Up Data from Hard Drive(s) to External MediaHow to Backup and Restore in Windows 7How to use Ubuntu Live CD to Backup Files from your dead Windows Computer

My anti-virus has a warning that the definitions are out of date. I have ran LiveUpdate and it downloads a new virus definition update but doesn't seem to install it. I'm new to TechSupport forum, just so you know. I registered because lately my computer has been inoperable. I never believed such a generous and helpful site such as this would exist, so thank you in advance for the service you do.
My problems are: Before the following major problems, for months when reaching my desktop on startup, a dialogue box appeared stating a strange WINDOWS file was missing. This stopped whe the following problems arose.
It hasn't happened for several hours, but I often heard random sound clips playing without a program even being opened.
-Frequent Crashes:
During startup, loading windows, my personal settings and at the desktop
When I ask the computer to do more than one thing at a time
When I try to open IE
When using "reset_access_avg8_en.exe" to combat a problem I encountered when trying to uninstall AVG, preparing for removing this virus(es) (uninstalled Symantec Antivirus instead)
Here is my DDS.txt file:

*Note* it repeatedly said "Not enough main memory to complete the sort", it it is relevant

Hello, I have a Canon DC410 DVD Video camera. Now, I am trying to be able to edit the video on my PC. However, the contents on the disc when I put them disc into the PC is the following:
Now I know the video clips are on the *.VOB files which is why the file sizes of the two *.VOB files are much larger than the rest of the files. Now my question is, what program should I download that is easy and fairly simple to cut my video clips out and make them playable. If that makes sense? The reason I say this is because there are several video clips on this one disc, but I want to be able to take them and split them up so that it is not one continuous video clip if that makes sense? LOL

Please let me know if you know what I mean, and what I could use that is easy, simple and does the job that I need. Oh, and if at all possible..... free?

Thanks!

I'm in search of a software that can do as said. Most of the files I deal with are avi's, some with variable audio bitrate (Ulead Video Studio 10 refused to export demarcated bits of a such avi into separate video clips). Thank you in advance.

Recently, for no apparent reason, my avi and MPEG video files in Vista stopped playing audio. I first noticed it in Ulead VS11, I then tried to play them in Windows Media Player and DivX player and still no sound.

When you play them in Windows Media Player, it tells you there is a codec missing (C00D10D1) but I am sent on a wild goose chase. I have tried installing K-Lite and the Windows Vista Codec Pack but neither solve the problem.

All these files played fine with audio up until recently and I can still play MP3 and Windows system sounds and DVDs. I have also recently learned that both Quicktime and Winamp will play them with sound and if I go over to my wife's profile, they play fine there on Windows Media Player.

I used GSpot to identify a problem but all it says is that it uses PCM Audio and no Codec is necessary.

Going back to Ulead Video Studio 11 - I found that when playing the entire Project (as opposed to just the video clip) I also hear sound.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It all started when I got the FBI DOJ virus. I got rid of it:
Malwarebytes helped me unlock the computer
SuperAntiSpyware helped me get rid of the remaining fbedojg.exe processes and self-installing startup scripts
However, since then I started experiencing another problem which I can't resolve. As soon as I connect to the internet, without having started any programs, the CPU usage spikes to full capacity and I start hearing these random sound clips playing simultaneously. They sound like radio or video ads and news clips.

In the Task Manager I saw that when I connect to the Internet, just as the sound clips are about to start, two instances of wmpscfgs.exe appear, and then disappear within seconds.

Other seemingly innocent system processes appear in Task Manager when the computer is on, even though logically they shouldn't - which I think could be the trojan. If I uninstall the corresponding program or end process, another such process from another program appears.

Would so much appreciate your help... Thanks in advance!!

Attaching the requested logs...

Hello silverstoneI would like to welcome you to the Malware Removal section of the forum.Around here they call me Gringo and I will be glad to help you with your malware problems.Very Important --> Please read this post completely, I have spent my time to put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier, faster and smoother for both of us!Please do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. I have several Video Clips I download off the net and I can't hear it!! The music is fine and clear but when they talk it's very low. I then try to play these files with DIVX Player and it says Something about Media is not recognize and I have to download some media codec and it just plays the video..
???? How do I fix these Video Clips that has very low sound quality? Is there something I can download or convert? And no it's not the sound volume on my laptop.. it's the actual video.. but strange that the voices are so low but when they play music in the background it's clear?? THanks!

A:what Codec do I need to make some Video Clips sound louder on my Labtop?

This is not clearly a codec problem as the video is playing.
Do you think you may have made some settings in a program like winamp equalizer that has altered the dB for voice range waves?
Do you have a player with equalizer settings that you can check?

Referred from here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic393451.html ~ OBI have tried running my CA Antivirus, Spybot, Malwarebytes, Ad-Aware, Super AntiSpyware, CCleaner, msert, but was unable to run TDSSKiller. I have random sound clips playing (only when connected to the internet) & experiencing Internet Explorer Script Errors when connected to the internet, but not contingent upon actually having Internet Explorer open. I will occasionally have a Windows Security alert in my system tray telling me my Automatic Updates have been turned off. When opening my Security Center, I am unable to turn Automatic Updates on. I had a fraudulent Windows Anti Virus Scanner, which seems to be gone or at least not currently running (this actually shut down my Internet Explorer once). I also experienced a redirect when clicking on google search results. I do not know if I have actually gotten rid of some of these or if they are just laying dormant, since some have been intermittent over the last week or two. Please help. _____________________________________________________________________.DDS (Ver_11-03-05.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Jonathan Pfaff at 21:48:54.34 on Fri 04/29/2011Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18702Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.3838.2756 [GMT -4:00].AV: CA Anti-Virus Plus *Enabled/Updated* {6B98D35F-BB76-41C0-876B-A50645ED099A}AV: Lavasoft Ad-Watch Live! OK this may trace back to another piece of malware I had which I had accidently installed due to it looking like Windows Defender. I had apparently gotten rid of it but this just randomly showed up last night:

Symptoms:

-Antivirus applications would not start unless the .exe is renamed.
-System freezes randomly.
-Clips of what sounds like movie trailers play randomly.
-Cannot shutdown; log off screen shows instead and after logging off there is only the cursor and a black screen.

These symptoms persist in safe mode and do not go away even if I run various antivirus applications.

Here is the DDS log:
