Win 7 x64 BSOD - I know it's software but which part?

Q: Win 7 x64 BSOD - I know it's software but which part?

Hello, please help.. getting a 0x000000d1 error on win 7 pro x64.

This is a clients laptop, only one month old with factory installed win 7 pro. Only updates, office 2013, outlook 2010, Avast AV and some company bespoke non-invasive software installed.

Been getting these BSODs for the whole time since active usage.

I've tried lots of google threads without success, I think it's a driver issue??

I'm really stuck here, although I'm an 'IT Guy' with 15 years in the business I've never looked into diagnosing dump files etc.

I appeal for your help, please find attached the collected sys info/dumps.

Preferred Solution: Win 7 x64 BSOD - I know it's software but which part?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Win 7 x64 BSOD - I know it's software but which part?

Lets take a look.

An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If kernel debugger is available get stack backtrace.
Arg1: 0000000006f77320, memory referenced
Arg2: 0000000000000002, IRQL
Arg3: 0000000000000000, value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
Arg4: fffff880058d9b3d, address which referenced memory
So we tried to read invalid/pageable memory at an IRQL of two which is an illegal operation that will always result in a bugcheck.
Whether the memory was pageable or invalid is still unknown as the dump file hasn't saved that information.

Our Intel display driver is calling into a page fault directly, therefore it was the cause of the crash as a page fault occurs when pageable/invalid memory is referenced and it's being brought back from disk to memory. When the IRQL is at 2 or above it isn't allowed ot reference pageable memory so we can't bring it back to memory from disk, we then get an infinite loop so we have no choice but to bugcheck.
I'll not go into detail about it as I'm here to solve the problem and it's late where I live at the moment.

Our driver is actually up to date which is surprising for an issue like this.
I would suggest either seeing if there was a newer driver released in September, if not then try rolling back a version.

Hello Everyone,

If you are not familiar with my previous post, please see 'Problems while installing software (XP)' I really don't want to waste space by repeating all of that.

I'm grasping at straws right now, I have not been able to find anything even remotely like this, and there are no response to me earlier post, the one mentioned above.

Is it possible that there is an install that is still trying to work, in the background? I have kill the process on some of the installations that appear to hang. Could the installer be hung in the middle of some other installation?

If so, any ideas how I would kill it?

A:Problems while installing software (XP) Part 2

Just an FYI

I think (the jury is still out on this) I may have fixed the problem.

I was having a problem where I could not get the properties of a folder, not the file(s) but folder, would not display. Searching the web I found a solution (if you are interested in the solution look in this forum, for one of my posts, it was a problem with file folder properties. In a nutshell I had to get a service World Wide Web Publishing to start. Since fixing this, every one of my installs have completed as one would thin they should.

TCP, FTP, UDP, SSL, HTTP,Telnet etc are all different protols.

Are all these protocols, part of browser software or OS ?

If more than one browser are installed on windows 7, does it mean that these protocols are installed more than once or they are part of Windows 7 and no matter how many browser softwares are installed, each browser uses protocol provided by the OS (windows 7, in this case) ?

A:Are protocols part of browser software ?

Hi, erm OK, think of it in terms of these are part of the OS not the browser.

Okay, this is the second time I've posted this, but it seems that the first message has disappeared.

I have Vista Home Premium on a Dell Inspiron E1705 (if that helps)...I CAN'T download or access any vital features because when Windows goes to ask my permission to continue, no window comes up! The screen darkens, but there is nothing there, and I have to go into task manager to regain access. I can't even do a system restore, or run things as an administrator (as suggested in previous postings) because they all seek permission for me to continue and I end up right back at the same dilemma...

Any ideas? I'm just stumped.

I had a desktop with WinXP that my Lexmark X1270 all-in-one printer was hooked up to. I have since got rid of that pc and got a laptop with Vista (I know nobody likes it, but it appeared that that's the only choice now.) that I hooked my printer up to. While it does print, a part of it is missing. It just so happens to be a crucial part to me. The All-In-One center isn't on my pc (I've tried reinstalling a couple times and updating driver/software at Lexmark's site), that being the part where you can copy and scan things. Anyone able to help?

A:Part of printer's software missing?

I like Vista for a start - I haven't had to do a fresh install once yet!

This may sound a cop out but have you asked Lexmark if this is a common issue? - you never know they may even help.

Another shot is, are you installing it as an administrator? i.e right-click on the setup.exe and Run as Administrator.

My lexmark wifi printer wasnt working so I uninstalled the software thinking re-installing would solve the problem. Now, whenever I try to re-install the Lexmark software, as soon as it installs the uninstall option (part way through loading the application and I know this as it updates as installing) it starts to uninstall itself. I have tried countless driver sites but they all have the same issue. Is this a Windows 7 issue?

A:Software application download part deaux

when I wanted to buy a new laptop, I was told, I would have to buy all new software since Vista won't run most of the older programs, especially 64-bit need apparently different drivers.
I bought a used laptop with XP therefore. I like the programs I bought and can't afford to update constantly when Windows changes/

I guess you will have to contact the software vendor.

Then few days after I gave up and went again installing everything from start, Windows 7 64 bit, step by step drivers and when it came to USB 3.0 and just after finish BSOD struck. I've thought that it is cause drivers from HP page are old, then I've tried uninstall them and install again, but same thing happened, same bug check, parameter.

Usual causes: Device driver, ?Memory

Your latest dump file blames ntkrnlmp.exe which is a Windows System file and is highly unlikely to be the cause.
All four dump files indicate device drivers as the first option, but your drivers look good.

What happened in Parts 1 & 2?

Did you run Memtest86+ at all?
Are your RAM settings correct?
If those check out I think Driver Verifier needs to be run until it crashes. Or have you done that?

The STOP 0x124 error is primarily a hardware error, but it can also be a compatibility issue, a Windows issue, or a corrupted driver issues (not everyone agrees on the last possibility).

The Linux kernel message below is most appropriate:

Nov 6 01:37:58 localhost kernel: [Hardware Error]: No human readable MCE decoding support on this CPU type.

So, we have to try different troubleshooting steps.

Run MemTest 86+ v4.10 overnight (at least 3 passes, more is better).
Run a hard drive diagnostic: HD Diagnostic (read the details at the link)

I wonder about the 550 watt PSU. In general most PSU's aren't up to what they say that they are rated for. And, you have a lot of extra equipment running (2 video cards and 8 hard drives). To test, remove 1 video card, and unplug most of the hard drives - then see if you still get the BSOD's.

Please provide the info in this post. It may show clues to other problems: http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

Greetings, everyone:

The story so far:

Back in August I built a PC. O, la, la. It was working great, except for one small problem. If I ever shut the PC down for a few hours (or over night), it would never let me have a clean boot. It will load me to Windows, give me about 5 minutes, then the BSoD pops up. I resolve to send in various RMA requests.

On February, I decided to start the process again with the new RMA parts. I noticed the problem still existed. A work around this issue was simple; never shut down the PC. I just put the PC in sleep mode until I was ready to deal with it again. And yes, if I hit restart, the PC boots up normally.

Last night, I foolishly shut down my PC and lo and behold, the issue was back. This time around, I recall if my PC was running on 4 GIGs of memory and not it's original 6 GIGs. Boom. PC booted up just fine. I also tested each and every stick and they all booted up normally, so long as there was only 4 GIGS of memory (and not 6).

I don't know what could be the problem. The only thing I didn't replace was the ram, so I put in a RMA for it. Here are all the .dmp from today. Maybe I need to do something in BIOS?

System specs:

Windows 7 (x64). OEM installation. Hardware was purchased in 8/10. OS was reinstalled on 2/11. Intel core i5.

My motherboard is the GA-55-something-something.

I tried Safe Mode (with Networkingtoo) but to no avail ("Cannot load the remote access connection manager service/ Error 711..." and nosound).

By this alone, I was able toeliminate 80% of the problems and I was happy...

I have a wireless modem connected to my main desktop in a downstairs room of my house (where my Comcast internet connection is located). The wireless connectivity is fine throughout the house for the most part.

However, if I want to connect to a slingbox to my tv upstairs which requires a hard wired ethernet connection, what are my options?

I will have no permanent computer upstairs.

Can I configure an access point for this or will I have to look at one of Cicso Power type options for this type of needed connection?

Hello,Anyone know the manufacturer and part number of the Audio Jack used in the T440 T440s T440p?  Mine broke when something struck the plug and now the detection of a plug in the Jack no longer works.  I am a fully capable SMD solder re-work person and would just like to swap a jack onto the MotherBoard.  My search of the internet has turned up no difinative replacement part number and there are 1,000's of SMD audio jack options. Anyone from Lenovo have access to a BOM for the T440 line that calls out the audio jack mfg and part number? This is a typical Lenovo FAIL and one reason I am not buying more thinkpads or Lenovos.  No real support!

Hi, i looked this over on google and did not find the info i want.

I have a desktop PC.
For windows 7; after a bsod, is there a 3rd party tool allowing to bring the OS to the exact same state with the same files open etc before the crash happened?
Like when using hibernate.

I'm getting bsod's followed by a memory dump quite often or when invoking certain SW. Its very annoying when involuntarily i loose my unsaved files and tasks i was doing.
Pls shed your knowledge on this.

A:Bringing desktop to same mem state after bsod. 3rd part SW?

Hi JohnAtanasoff,

It is important to find out the root cause behind the 'Blue screen'; once treated, you may be able to prevent errors in the system. Not sure if a 'standalone software' is a potential remedy for various 'Blue screen errors'.

Please follow the steps in the following tutorial to capture and share the 'crash dump' details: Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

As mentioned in the tutorial, please select 'Grab All' to capture all pertinent information (as in the reference image below)

These details are vitally important to understand the reason of 'errors/crashes' in the system.
Do reply with the information; would be glad to assist.

My HP Notebook - 15-r264dx TouchSmart (ENERGY STAR) - Will not power on. After dissasembling it, I found that the connection between the small board containing the power button and the 4 wire ribbon cable that leads back to the motherboard was broken. I tried to fix it by pressing the four wires onto their contacts, and pressing the power button then. That did not work, probably indicating that once the connection is broken, it cannot be put back. So I either need to find a fix for that, or purchase a replacement part. The part is: TMT YA-4A1  54V-0  E114139 (It would need to be both the power button chip and the ribbon cable, connected.) ps. The computer works aside from the power button malfunction, as I touched two of the contact wires in the ribbon cable together and it turned on. Also, I do not know whether it is a 64 bit or 32 bit, but I doubt that will have any weight on the solution.

This is my first time posting here although I am a frequent "lurker". This forum has tons and tons of valuable information and it really helps me a lot without actually having to post or ask questions.

Now to the real reason I am posting. I have receiving frequent BSOD's. It will go 2-3 days without them and then BSOD 4-5 times in the middle of the night or even while I simply browsing the website. I have been battling with this issue for months and over the passed couple of months I have replaced nearly EVERY part in my computer.

The BSOD that I am recieving are a variety of errors. 0x000000A, 0x00000109.

I am also receiving an error in my logs:
The IOCBIOS service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the path specified.

I researched this and found some people think its a virus. This is a fresh brand new install of windows with close to nothing installed. After I formated and did a clean install it didnt BSOD for days and then one night it BSOD 4-5 times in the middle of the night.

Parts replaced:
Ram (was 4GB now 8GB switch from PNY to Corsair)
Video card

I have not replaced the actual CPU itself..

I have gone out to Intel's support site and downloaded the latest drivers for the Chipset and LAN thinking this may have been the issue but yet I am still receiving BSOD.

Computer Spec's as follows:

Q9300 Quad Core

This netbook has just run out of 12 month warranty (by 2 weeks) and has failed on Windows 7 with a blue screen error shortly after logging in.

It won't reinstall from the recovery partition (it blue screens when installing the OS) and using the test facility from the recovery partition to do a memory test doesn't indicate an error with the netbook's memory.

It has always run fairly hot, and I have only just seen the service announcement about upgrading the BIOS to provide a warning about overheating.

I am wondering whether the overheating has damaged the netbook and now the only use it has is as a paperweight, or whether I should spend money to replace the hard-disk and try to reinstall the OS.

I must admit that I would expect a better service life from a Toshiba product than just 380-odd days of use and I am considering what action is open to me under consumer law.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

A:Satellite T130 (Part PST3AE) blue screen BSOD

I?ve got two Toshiba notebooks and never had any problems.
Of course notebook can start always to malfunction? this is nothing unusual because hardware can damage suddenly.
Therefore the notebook is covered by warranty.
Standard warranty is valid for 12 month but if you register the notebook on the Toshiba page you would get additional one year.
Nevertheless in my country the retailer warranty covers the products (no matter what products it is) always 24 month long.

Back to your issue; BSOD is a result of serious software or hardware issue.
Higher temperature can affect the notebook?s parts like RAM modules for example and this might cause BSOD.
This happened with my first non-Toshiba notebook which I bought 10 years ago.

I assume you are not sure if it?s related to software or hardware? therefore I recommend recovering the notebook using the HDD recovery or the recovery disk.
If the BSOD would still happen even if the notebook has been recovered, then you should check the cooling modules. Clean it using compressed air spray. The clogged fans might cause higher temperature which leads to BSOD.
If this does not help, then the notebook technician should check the hardware.

i have a windows xp home o/s on a dell dimension 8200
last week i casually deleted my video driver instead of a similarly named program which i did not want. for several days i could not see anything on my monitor. while i was out getting the startup discs from my brother in law who has the same computer (system and all) because my house ate my set, my sister was trying to "help" fix it by putting in the emergency boot and repair disks i made for a different computer... a dell 4300 with ME o/s... and when i got back... well, lets just say i was unhappy.

the computer refused to acknowledge that i had a hard drive so i popped in the o/s cd from dell and added another partition so now i can see and use my computer.

now, is there any way i can get my other information back? when i open computer management, and click on disk management i see two partitions on Disk 0 :

( )
37.27 GB FAT
Healthy (EISA Configuration)

(C: )
37.25 GB NTFS
Healthy (System)

if i make the ( ) the active partition it goes back to being unable to load (but still there)

any thoughts on this situation (besides what i can do to my sister) would be very much appreciated.

A:cannot access part of my harddrive (the part with all my files)

try Partition magic or Disk magic. You may be able to re-activate your partition with those. Otherwise you'll need a program to recover your files. I just used File Scavanger ($40) to recover files from a hard drive that got trashed from a major system failure. I regained 80% of my files, fortunately about 95% of my most important ones. Most of the other programs are $90 & up. Good luck and make your sister pay for these programs

Hello folks,
At the risk of sounding thick.
I have a LaCie 500gb formatted with Fat32, this was for use with my PC AND PS3. I have about 150gb used. I now want to back up my pc to make some hardware changes but i cant back this up to my EHD because its formated to fat32. I don't have enough room on my HD to save the data from my EHD, format the EHD to ntfs and save it back.
Is it possible to format an EHD to part fat32 and part ntfs?
Or is my only alternative another EHD?
Thanks for any help

I recently reformatted my main (of 2) partition (holding Windows XP home and program files, the C drive) due to a virus. All my files were on a 2nd partition (D) that wasn't formatted in order to save my files. After reinstalling WinXP, I then moved my files to the OS partition, and formatted the 2nd partition as well, trying to give my whole drive a good clean. Unfortunately, when rebooting, my machine wouldn't start up because "NTLDR file is missing".

I realized it was looking for NTLDR on the D: drive (Files drive) and thus solved the problem by using my XP setup CD to copy NTLDR, ntdetect.com, and Boot.ini on to the D: drive. Then I ran Bootcfg from the XP setup CD recovery consol to set Boot.ini to point to my windows XP installation on the C: drive. So, now it starts up fine, but clearly my computer is recognizing the D: partition as the "Active" partition, when the C: partition really should be it!

So, I would like to get things back to normal but I can't figure out how to reset which partition is considered "Active". When I use PartitionMagic, the option to "Set as Active..." my C: partition is unavailable, in part, I suspect, because for some reason my OS partition (with WinXP on it, C is set up as a "Logical" partition, and not a "Primary" partition. Furthermore, there is this unexplained "Extended" partition w/ no drive letter that is exactly the same size the C: drive. I read th... Read more

Alright here is my issue as best as I can explain it. I have two drives, one with a system partition one with my boot. The one with the boot is the drive I want to use as my primary. I want to format the drive with the system partition.

How can I move the sys partition to the boot drive so that I can format the other since right now disk management will not let me format the drive with the sys partition.

Picture for more info
Disk 3/Vol6 is what I want to save and align sys/boot too. Disk 4/Vol7 is what I want to format.
Thanks a lot!

From what my mate explains he got fooled by a spoof website claiming he needed to "defragment" his drive. He obviously followed a few too many prompts and got infected.

The problem I now have is ever time we turn the lappy on it goes through the initial booting of windows then gets to the "Welcome" screen (right before it would usually load the desktop). It then pops up a BSOD, does it's dump then reboots. If left alone it will do this indefinitely.

Loading in safe mode has the same result.

The BSOD error code is:
STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x820836B3, 0xAE19FB24, 0x00000000)
and can be seen here:

I don't care to repair the Windows partition particularly. I just want to recover some important files before formatting.

I tried Hiren's Boot CD and an XP MiniPE live CD to try copying the files to an external HDD but the C:\ drive didn't even show up in either application.

From my research the error code points to a corrupt MBR. So I got into repair mode with my Win7 CD and tried:
X:\Sources bootsext.exe /fixmbr

as well as

Bootrec.exe /FixMbr
and Bootrec.exe /FixBoot
Neither helped.

Any suggestions?

Thanks heaps guys.
