0x000000F4 Process crucial to system operation has exited BSOD

Q: 0x000000F4 Process crucial to system operation has exited BSOD

Greetings,i've been constantly been having blue screens and freezes non-stop,and since i've once fixed a problem with the help of this website,i trust that i can get some help again.
Ok,lets start from the beginning, about 20 days ago i went on a trip for holidays,a few days earlier i'd cleaned my computer's cooler fan, usual stuff.
Now,as i've come back,my computer has been unusually slow and having non-stop blue screens and freezes,to the point where i sometimes have to restart it several times for it to last more than start-up.
Also apologize for the bad quality of the photo and the occasional mixed up languages in my attached file,as my computer language is set to Portuguese. I've tried running blue screen view, but the program shows no signs of anything like nothing was happening, which is very unusual as it has helped me solve many issues before.
On a side note,i've been having my Utorrent randomly close its process for no reason, and malware bytes has shown no signs of problems. Kinda gave up on doing a complete scan with Avast anti-virus because my computer often blue screens before the scan can even get to 1%,but i will try to help as much as i can.
I await for responses

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi

I ran Auslogics Boost Speed Registry Defrag - yes I know, I know.

I now have a persistent BSOD.

I cannot Boot into Safe Mode or any other mode.

Startup Repair picks up no errors.

sfc /scannow returns the following

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.
There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run sfc again.

This is impossible as the only way to access Command Prompt is via Repair options.

The full BSOD is:-

A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated.

*** STOP: 0X000000F4 (0X0000000000000003,0XFFFFFA8003AA03DO,0XFFFFFA8003AA06BO,0XFFFFF80002D84670)

I think I have narrowed down the problem. Auslogics has managed to screw up the process of migrating my new defragged Registry and I can find no way of getting my old one back.

System Restore does not work as it tells me I need to enable it on the drive (it is enabled - all my restore points are there but the check box next to my windows drive is greyed out)

After using Hiren's Boot CD's mini XP I have managed to locate a log file generated by Auslogics at the time of the crash. I have pasted the contents below.

After checking the file sizes of DEFAULT, COMPONENTS, SAM, SECURITY, SOFTWARE and SYSTEM files - it appears that only some of them have been modified. Unfortunately some of the file sizes are about 75% smaller which says to me that my BSOD occurred at the worst possible moment.

Still grateful for any suggestions but I reckon a fresh install might be in order.

I've getting occasional BSOD lately. They sometime occur only a day a part, sometimes a week. It started I'd say a month or so ago, which was also couple weeks after I had reinstalled Windows 7, which I did after an uninstall of Office 2013 seemed to have not completed correctly, and had also never gotten most of the preinstalled junk of this laptop anyways. I think I installed all the necessary drivers. All hardware functions correctly and nothing is missing in Device Manager.

Every time it is the same message "A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly ended". So far I have ran scans with MSE, MBAM Pro, and WDO, which have found no signs of viruses or other malware. I have run sfc /scannow, checkdisk and every scan that Seatools has. No problems have been detected with the harddrive, sfc found no integrity errors. Last night I had memtest86+ running off of a usb drive run for 7 passes. No errors were found. I went through Event Viewer and found nothing that seemed related. I checked and all my drivers seem to be up to date.

I hope I included all necessary information. My system specs are up to date. The three dumps I have are attached below. I had deleted the older ones with ccleaner without thinking. If I left out anything, let me know. Its been a while, since I've done much troubleshooting on a computer, so I might be overlooking something.

Before anyone wastes time on my problem, I'm 95% sure I've fixed it. I downloaded a freeware app called StartUpCPL that alows one to view and disable startup processes. Through trial and error, I've tracked my problem to 'VTTimer.exe'. This is totally my bad, because this process comes packaged with a set of default S3 Graphics drivers, which I was warned may not work properly with my system. Live and learn.

So not a malware problem, but a hardware/drivers issue.

I posted I had fixed my problem, but I was wrong. I was disabling/enabling the VTTimer.exe process, and the Dr. Watson errors were coinciding with when the process was enabled. But a couple of boots later, my set of errors were reappearing with the process disabled. To recap my problem, about every 2nd startup (and sometimes consecutively) into Windows 2KSP4, the system will hang at the desktop screen. After login, the active desktop loads, the task bar and icons appear, and in the system tray, the volume controls load, along with network connection icon, daemon tools, and Panda antivirus. After Panda is loaded, is usually where the system hangs for a few minutes. I can move my mouse around and select desktop icons, but I cannot start any programs, or get into my Start menu. Then I get a 'Program Error' popup with has generated errors. Below it is another popup with a 'Dr. Watson Fatal Error'. I get error code 87, 'parameter is incorrect', but no error log is produced because the program had terminated before Dr. Watson could attach itself. I've run the updated Spybot & Ad-Aware programs in safe mode, and even Stinger, but to no avail. I would suspect that Panda is the culprit, only it has been installed for a while before I started getting this error. This is really a pickle of a situation where I can't even figure out which program is causing my woes. The Microsoft Knowledge base explains the error fine enough, but offers no suggestions on how to tra... Read more

I hate to sound like a geek, but this morning I remembered what Spock said. "Eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." So this morning I uninstalled Adobe Acrobat 5, Daemon Tools, and Panda Titanium Antivirus 2006 trial. My mistake is that I didn't uninstall them individually. After many several reboots, both soft and complete from power down, the fatal error has not returned.I do remember seeing a message that Panda had neutralized some adware when I installed Daemon tools originally. I don't know if that has anything to do with my problems, but I thought I'd throw that out there. It will be later this evening before I can start tinkering with the pc again. Hi and Welcome To TSF

Luckily there is an easy way to fix this problem, if you are running XP. You can do this with other OS's but I am better with XP. First report back with which OS you are running. In XP you can do:

1. CTRL+ALT+DEL
2. Click Task Manager
3. Click File
4. New Task Run
5. Type "explorer"

* This should fix your problem *

My laptop seems to have taken a shining to the colour blue today. I had some KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERRORs this morning, which popped up after some install/uninstall issues. Followed this up with a System Restore. Those BSODs were replaced by a video driver failure BSOD which was repaired by installing new drivers via Safe Mode (with Networking).

Final float in this BSOD parade is a "Process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated" BSOD. Exact error code is 0x000000F4 (0x0000000000000003, 0xFFFFFA80089BFB30, 0xFFFFFA80089BFE10, 0xFFFFF80004184460). Startup repair isn't working, but Safe Mode continutes to work seamlessly.

I'd love to provide a dump file for the BSOD, but even though I've properly configured Windows to create dumpfiles, I continually get "Physical memory dump failed with status 0XC0000010." Nonetheless, I'm submitting a SF_Diagnostic zipfile.

Any help that can be offered is appreciated.

I backed up my old system before sending it in for repairs. They replaced the HDD and sent me back the refurbished PC. So I started to restore my old system to the same computer. I put in the repair disc I just made on the new OS they put on the new HDD (Home Premium). I went to system image restore, and it recognized the system image etc. on my external HDD. I checked to format & repartition, etc. so it set about restoring the system, it took about 3 or 4 hours for 315 or so GB. (my external HDD is 320GB, but the computer HDD is 640GB)

When it was done it restarted and ran CHKDSK (I wouldn't skip it even if I pressed a button). It fixed a few things and restarted. Then it said "Starting Windows" or whatever, and the BSOD. It says:

Ok, so as you might think I'm pissed at the moment. I tried every option I could have and nothing, I had made a partition for OSx (apple dev official) and since I hadn't had much on it i reformatted it to ntfs and installed vista again... and I notice there are more options to boot from my broken vista partition, still nothing so I decided to just try to move all my files and stuff. but I cant see any of my stuff If I try to manually put in the location and I get an access denied error.

That is not a log, but a screenshot of the scanning interface.

Please do this to create a log:

double click on HijackThis.exe

1. If it gives you an intro screen, just choose 'Do a system scan and save a logfile'.
2. If you don't get the intro screen, just hit Scan and then click on Save log.
3. Post the hijackthis.log file here. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

Please do not attach the log, just post it in your reply.

Greetings.

Problem

1. Began on 25 June during a browsing session. System restarted spontaneously. System hung / now hangs at black screen
(no cursor) after completing boot to the stage of showing the Windows XP splash screen with the blue animated blip loading
bar, which is visible and moving for the usual (i.e. pre-problem) interval, but then... BSOD. Cannot summon up Task Manager in
this mode. The powersave seems to oscillate on and off.

2. However, system boots fine into all variants of Safe Mode and all the programmes that you would expect to be able to use in
this mode function OK.

3. Trying System Restore from Safe Mode with Command Prompt always fails after the progress bar has gone about 80% of
the way. "Cannot be restored" message on rebooting.

4. I hadn't upgraded any drivers (notably video [nVidia]).

7. Before trying System Restore, I ran ZoneAlarm; Malwarebytes; Hitman Pro; Microsoft Security Scanner (all in the "deepest"

It looks like there are traces of bypasses on your system.
Before proceeding, you need to remove every bypass (and related software) on your system.

Hello
I have BSOD problem which occurs randomly. In the blue screen it?s written ?Driver IRQL not less or equal?.
The important fact is that BSOD only appears when I use Win 7, and when I go back to Win XP the BSOD problem disappears. I have tested different versions of Win 7 on my laptop, but BSOD problem, have appeared with all of them.
I have checked my RAM with memtest 86+ and it did not show any problem.

I followed the instructions explained in "Reading and Troubleshooting the Windows Minidump (.dmp) File | I Found a Fix" to read the dump file and find the source of the problem. In the file obtained from minidump by following the instructions in that site, it is been written: "process name: system" and "DEFAULT_BUCKET_ID: VISTA_DRIVER_FAULT". I think this data plus the fact that BSOD does not appear in windows XP, shows that the problem is due to drivers. But I've installed the latest version of drivers. I don't know what else to do.
Any help would be appreciated.

I use teracopy on my Win 7 machine as I like the added features. I do have one problem with the program and with windows in general. When I drag files to copy and there is a file that is a duplicate or some other issue that holds up copying, why doesn't it process the rest of the operation while waiting for input about the conflict? So if I had 100 files to copy and file 10 was a duplicate, my system stops copying at file 10 and waits. Why doesn't it put 10 aside and continue with the rest of them. This causes problems because I expect a process to work unattended. When I copy I don't care about the order, but does Windows take them as a sequential file transfer or something? I find this strange.

A:Copying process issue - continue operation while saiting for error prompt input

What you are seeing is a design decision in Teracopy. I don't know why it was designed that way except that it is much simpler than what you desire. If you request this as a feature request the developers may consider making the change.

Windows is doing nothing more than a series of disk read and write operations as requested by the application. It doesn't even know that files are being copied. Only the application knows that. Windows does have a file copy function but Teracopy works at a lower level to achieve better control.

Hello experts...

I think I need some help on determing what causing BSOD of my PC.

Before I installed a new SSD - Crucial M4 128GB, My computer ran perfectly without any problem. The problem started after I install the SSD.
Originally I had it on Marvel II port but it caused a lot of BSOD ....
So, switch it back to Intel port.
I did switch to ACHI mode in BIOS before fresh install the win 7 in SSD.

The system run better in Intel port compare with Marvell port.
but still, for whatever reason, the blue screen would still pop up and I have no clue what causing it.

I done test with Memtest86+ and came back clean [see attached file]

Also, I notice that my computer runing fine in the night time. but in the morning, when I turn it on, the BSOD will come up. That happened in the past 2 - 3 days. Strange....

Maybe is my driver got problem? or hardware problem?

It would be greatly appreciatedm If anyone could help me and give me some clues...or direction on how to fix this thing

Thank you for helping me in advance. Cheers

A:BSOD in the morning only? Cause by newly installed Crucial M4?

Sorry but you uploaded the application instead of the data Try this method

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Hey Everyone,

I just installed an additional crucial m500 ssd drive to my system. I originally had some issues with it formatting, but finally got it working....sort of. Writing or deleting files causes the system to BSOD fairly consistently. I have attached the dmp files if someone could take a look that would be awesome. I tried downloading the windows debug but that causes it to BSOD.

Thanks

So I recently got a new Crucial M4 SSD to install into my Alienware M15x latptop. The computer was running great on the old HDD I had in there and I put the new SSD in and installed the drivers from dell, ATI, and Crucial.

I've had a couple of BSOD's in the past (over a year ago) with my computer and they were usually some problem with a duplicate video card driver so when I got my first BSOD I uninstalled the ATI drivers and re installed but I still managed to get another one a little while ago. I'm concerned it might be problem with the SSD but I'm not sure. I had the option of ATA or AHCI and chose AHCI for the bios settings. It could also be an update problem, but since its a fresh install the likelihood of finding a specific update seems duanting.

I'm including the diagnostics, they point to ntkrnlmp.exe as the culprit but I'm not sure where to go from there. I have run scf /scannow (twice) and it didn't find anything.

Any help would be super appreciated!

A:Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000080

0xC000021A: STATUS_SYSTEM_PROCESS_TERMINATEDThis occurs when Windows switches into kernel mode and a user-mode subsystem, such as Winlogon or the Client Server Runtime Subsystem (CSRSS), is compromised. Security can no longer be guaranteed. Because Win XP can?t run without Winlogon or CSRSS, this is one of the few situations where the failure of a user-mode service can cause the system to stop responding. This Stop message also can occur as a result of malware infestation or when the computer is restarted after a system administrator has modified permissions so that the SYSTEM account no longer has adequate permissions to access system files and folders.I've never gotten this particular error...but if I did, i would treat it as a malware situation until proven otherwise.Louis

Hello, I am trying to isolate what happened when a power failure last night took down my desktop. I haven't had problems with this computer in two years(and haven't had a power outage in about as long amazingly, one of the few benefits of a drought I guess). Based on what I have found, it is a hardware failure. The error is the:

"A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly ended"

I have been trying to figure out how to read the minidump files with no success and I would like to get my desktop up and running as soon as possible.

Here are some of the symptoms I am seeing. When booted on, two harddrives always show of my four(two 1 TB, 2 SSDs of different makes, one of which is the primary OS drive). The F and C always show, but the other two often do not. Except when I ran Seagate tools. From what I can tell, both of them are on the same pair of ports to the motherboard. The two that do not show up normally, return a bunch of errors on the SeaTools scan for logs reporting and barely function scan wise and won't scan through SMART scan.

The D and E drives almost seem to randomly lose connection.

The computer BSODs on reboot so far approx 50% of the time of 4 boot ups. CHKDISK /F /R returned no errors.

Based on my information and knowledge, I would assume the motherboard is damaged. But without more information I can't tell.

Attached are the Minidump files.

So, if you switch the cable from one of the "working" drives, to one of the drives that isnt showing up, does it show up?

I cannot seem to get the BSOD with any particular programs / functions - the just seem to come when they want to. I've tried new ram - updated all applicable drivers, anti-virus, spyware, etc. - I'm stuck and not sure where else to go ... would like to avoid system rebuild / format if possible.
I've tested system memory with memtest86 or whatever it is - via floppy. after 9 runs - no errors which is why i'm leaning towards SATA issues with raid? Possible? thanks!!

Hi, I have a Dell 15R laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Recently, maybe after some updates (Not Sure), the system started behaving abnormally. Some of the programs lost their icons, some stopped working and so on. At first, i thought it was a problem with the software and tried reinstalling them but it was not working. AVI files could not be played in GOM Player or Windows Media Player. Autocad, after running, suddenly stops and error shows "Autocad 2010 stopped working", PDF Printer doesn't work at all and so on.So, i thougth maybe the problem was with my file associations or registry files, so i tried RegCure and Advanced System Optimizer (ASO), both of which did not give me any results. As a last try, i tried ASO Registry Defrag). It run for about 10 secs and showed boot was required. My main problems started from then. As the computer booted, BIOS screen was shown, Boot Screen was shown and suddenly BSOD pops up. I tried restarting many times but there was no use.As the BSOD Screen just pops up and goes, i'm not able get the correct code even though it is similar to this:0x000000F4 (0x0000000000000003, 0xFFFFFA8005BB9060, Parameter 3, Parameter 4)I tried booting in safe mode (all types) but same result (BSOD). I tried system restore (and memory debugging) (after pressing F8 from BIOS Screen) but the system shows System Protection not enabled for the drive. Can anyone please tell me if there is any way other than to format and reinstall? The sys... Read more

Your issue could be related to the use of so called registry tools like RegCure and ASO. You may have deleted something critical to the function of your lap top.You may have to reinstall your os.Here is some information relating to Registry Tools:Bleeping Computer DOES NOT recommend the use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons:? Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable. The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. For a more detailed explanation, read Understanding The Registry.? Not all registry cleaners are created equal. There are a number of them available but they do not all work entirely the same way. Each vendor uses different criteria as to wh... Read more

Hello. I'm now having this very same error. I get it about 45 seconds after windows loads (XP Pro SP2), it even happens even if I don't log in (if I leave it at the login screen, after 45 seconds or so, it comes up with the 0x000000F4 error).

Anyway, I can boot into safe mode, there's no problem there, I've done the chkdsk /r /f stuff, still no fix. It only ONCE has successfully booted to windows and stayed there, that was yesterday (shortly after the problem started happening)... I unplugged my DVD-ReWriter drive and after about 3 or 4 reboot efforts it worked. Since then I've had to use my dvd drive, and have therefore been forced to reboot and plug it back in... As I suspected, I got the error.

I don't believe it's an issue with the dvd drive, as if it was, the problem would have been solved after the first reboot with it unplugged... No?

Anyway, here's the interesting thing; I suspected it might be my page file, so I booted into safemode, set 'No Pagefile' and rebooted into regular windows. The problem happened again BUT, instead of getting a BSOD with a 0x000000F4 error, the system just reboots. I've never actually not had a pagefile set before, so I don't know if this is a completely seperate issue to do with the lack of pagefile, but it's the exact same "MO"; after 45 seconds, the system hangs for about 20 seconds and then reboots (instead of going to a BSOD).

I'm now defragging my hard... Read more

Oh, it might also be worth mentioning that I got this error immediately after getting that dreaded ATAPI.SYS error (0x0000007A) ... I've had a few of them over the past year, no more than 10 (I built the system in January 2007) but is it possible that the page file could have been corrupted immdiately after this particular BSOD?

Hi all,

I am getting this bsod's since last week, and it doesn't seem to matter whether it's active of not, had some bsod's while idling.

I've had different error codes:
STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x0000000000000003, 0xFFFFFA800A5FAB30, 0xFFFFFA800AF, XFFFFF80003786350)
STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x0000000000000003, 0xFFFFFA800AD3DB30, 0xFFFFF(part missing i think, too fast taking the picture), XFFFFF80003780350)
And a few more like this but didn't save it, cause first I thought it was the same error code every time. Saving the codes from now on.

And i had some error where it said it had something to do with win32.sys, but that happened only once.

The BSOD keeps idling at 'Collecting data for crash dump... Initializing disk for crash dump...' So i doesn't save any minidump files.

What i did:
- Antivirus/anti-malware full scans
- system restore
- checked driver updates
- checked for updates firmware ssd, apparently the Crucial M4 had a '5000 hour bug', their software said no firmware updates were available
- sfc / scannow, it says some files are damaged but it?s unable to fix them, log attached
- chkdsk /f, did it overnight, bsod's
- Memtest, did it overnight for 13 hours, 6 passes without any errors

Does anyone knows what to do next?

I have a Dell laptop and I can't get Win 7 Pro to start at all. It just begins to load the GUI, I see the arrow for the mouse pointer, and then I get the BSOD.

System Restore - fails
Use Last Known Good - doesn't work
Safe Mode - also produces BSOD

I have no other info, other than 0x000000F4, and the 4 long hex codes after it.

I don't what happened to corrupt my laptop. It was working fine, however, a family member let a friend use it for a half hour. I come back home, and now it's DOA.

If Windows won't start, and SR won't work, I don't know what else to try. If I have to do a clean reinstall, it's going to waste an entire day. Just wondering if there's any repair options I missed.

Thanks.
