Bottle neck and other troubles with RAM and GPU

Q: Bottle neck and other troubles with RAM and GPU

Hi!, my english is not so good, i need to know how avoid bottle necks on my hardware and I want to know things you need for help me. I am using a 4 years old pc with windows 7 sp1 x86, it has AMD Athlon 64 x2 dual core 4200+ 2.20 Ghz, 2x 1GB RAM DDR2 kingston hyperx dual channel 1066 Mhz, these are my RAMs :Kingston Technology Company - Kingston Memory Search - Search Results for: KHX8500D2/1G but the computer it recognize like 800 Mhz do not know for what (1066 Mhz and DDR2 i think, and the PC recognizes it 800 Mhz, because have windows 7 x86 or 32 bits or BIOS does not be actualized, can it be?) #1, integrated GPU nvidia 256MB Gforce 6150 nforce 430 (actualized drivers) (i want change for GPU card and i do not know wich more convenient) i think does not support BR (no 3D, do not interest me on that, because my CPU not supports) i only want for common BR. Specialy for movies, not games, do not interest me the games so much. this consult is because when i am watching movie with PowerDVD10 Ultra mark II actualized, the CPU usage increase to 100% in 2 cores and the RAM is on 20%. I think that is because my GPU is integrated (CPU entire work) . So, i want a GPU that support play a BR and free my CPU usage and it have HDMI for BR and VGA ports #2, on mother Asus m2n-mx se plus, power 500W standard. I used to computer for surfing on internet, see movies (like multimedia centre, i would like play common blu-ray not 3D, with powerDVD10 or newer, but yes DVD transformed 3D on maximun quality) and run others programs (few gaming).
1 Why? how can I do for fix it?
2 ATI, nVidia? DDR2, DDR3? 256MB, 512 or 1GB? What models? nothing exceed to the use without create conflicts (i want to buy a gpu, trouble is it has that be equilibrated to my hardware)
3 and 4 that no exist, lol, i will change HDD for this pc, X? GB or X? TB? and windows 32 bits or 64 bits?
I will buy new pc when windows8 of whatever mode. Should i change other things? Guys, thanks a lot.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

but the computer it recognize like 800 Mhz do not know for what (1066 Mhz and DDR2 i think, and the PC recognizes it 800 Mhz, because have windows 7 x86 or 32 bits or BIOS does not be actualized, can it be?)

You can change that to 1066 in your BIOS

The 440GT and HD5670 GPUs are good choices

Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100287L Radeon HD 5670 (Redwood) 512MB 128-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card w/ATI Eyefinity

Newegg.com - MSI N440GT-MD1GD3/LP GeForce GT 440 (Fermi) PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video

Adding another 1GB of RAM will drastically improve performance

2 ATI, nVidia? DDR2, DDR3? 256MB, 512 or 1GB? What models? nothing exceed to the use without create conflicts (i want to buy a gpu, trouble is it has that be equilibrated to my hardware)

Both ATI and Nvidia are good, the choice is up to you
Your Board only supports DDR2
The Hard disk capacity depends on the amount of data you will be storing, 500GB-1TB will be a good choice for you
Stay with 32-bit as 64-bit will require more than 4GB of RAM to be effective

Hi Folks,

I have a CAD SW that is just fast enough most of the time, but when it does certain things, it seems to take forever. For example, when I first load a file to start working with it, it takes over 3 minutes to get ready to use. Sometimes I use Task Manager>performance tab and it typically shows 25-33% CPU Usage, and I usually only see activity on 2 of the 4 CPUs. I watch the HDD (SDD) activity light, and it doesn't look like there's much activity.

Or, if I click "undo" in this program after making some small change, it might block and make me wait for over a minute before I can do something else.

Anyway, I'm curious to find out what takes it so long to do these things. I'm thinking it's a SW design issue, like the CAD SW isn't written to take full advantage of today's HW or something. Is this something I can figure out using Win 7 performance monitoring? Otherwise, what can I use to monitor the CAD SW and PC interaction and see what the bottleneck is?

I wasn't sure about something I was hoping someone could clarify this for me. I was wondering if the Front side bus speed of a Mobo is bottlenecked by the processors FSB? For example, if my mobo's FSB speed is 1333MHz and my CPU's FSB is 1066MHz, does this mean that they will bottleneck at 1066MHz, or are they independent from each other?

A:Front Side Bus bottle neck?

The CPU controls the FSB. The motherboard's FSB, as you speak of it, is just the highest FSB that the mobo is guaranteed to support. Some ASUS motherboards, for instance, can run at 1333MHz FSB when the processor supports it. But if the processor's FSB is 1066, that's what the FSB will be. But the FSB speed is determined by the processor.

A:Bottle Neck When running Google Crome With Core i3 2nd Gen

I have a computer that has 2 GB of RAM at 1066 MHz which is 1 yr. old, when I use google chrome, firefox and CS5 at the same time it only uses 61-65% memory, its weird that you only have one page open on chrome and it uses 200 MB memory, Are your browsers up to date? If not update it. I think it has something to do with your RAM, probably you have a memory leak from what I know. What are the extension and add-ons in your chrome that is using that much RAM? I have 32-bit W7 when its idle it uses 20% memory.

I have the latest software version of Tascam's GVI.

GVI IS NO LONGER SUPPORTED. Tascam has closed this division of the company.

My software loads sampled instruments just fine except for one thing. Samples that have coding in them to use a reverb (a part of gvi) called gigapulse will not load. I get a shell error. This happened in both xp 32 , vista 64 and windows 7 64. Ram has been thoroughly checked and replaced and checked with memtest. Its fine. Motherboard shows no other errors. This system runs flawless. W7 is excellent by the way.

What I know. Shell error. Here is the error. I am hoping that it is a problem I can solve by editing the registry. The only problem hardware wise is a possible chipset (driver has been updated and did not solve) incompatibility.

I believe I am trying to do the impossible, but what the heck, it's a slow day.

The problem I have is that I am trying to RR on XP Pro and so far I am having a real issue with my IRQ's. The ACPI has allocated IRQ 17 to the sound card and I want to change it to IRQ 5. I have checked the properties on the card and the change box is grayed out.

The system info is:

Motherboard: Dell Computer Corp., 0G1548, A, ..CN7082138BE06O.
Antivirus: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2011, Updated: Yes, On-Demand Scanner: Enabled

I would assume that I have to disable ACPI and have come across several ways to do it, but the postings are ancient so I really don't trust them.

What happens now is I either get an error box or if the "Test Sound" works the result is really jerky. As yet I have not got the program to even run and I have tried both the DOS box from Windows and DOSBOX. Both will let me run Set Up, but no joy for running.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

From what I understand there are two main bottle-necks when it comes to computer speed: The processor and hard drive are probably at the top of the list - I realize there are other bottle-necks but the processor and hard drive seems to be what most are stating from what I Googled.

The above described laptop runs good but boot-ups and programs load pretty slow. I was going to install an SSD which would normally help with the storage and boot-up slowness, but I was told that my Processor (see above) is a low-end processor and because it is, installing an SSD would probably not help.

If someone out there is pretty knowledgeable about processors would you also say you agree that this is a low-end processor and that I would probably wasting my money installing an SSD drive?

Your opinions would be greatly appreciate

Okay, background, I once heard a story (zen) about a duck in a bottle.

Today, I got the idea of making a picture like this. Seemed easy- at least if I used clip art and the right sizing. Get an outline of a bottle and put a smaller size picture of a duck so it looks like it's in it.

But, I got the idea of taking a picture of various bottles (some old) I have around the house, and putting a duck (picture) in it.

Not as easy as it sounds!

Just copy paste, it looks like the duck is ON the bottle.

I got some good pictures of bottles, some with background (grass and sky) showing through them. And there's a cute yellow rubber duck in Photoshop samples.

I know it must have something to do with layers but I don't know much about this (yet). I'm thinking something like cut the bottle out of the picture, put the duck in, then make the bottle semi transparent (the picture, it already is, being glass) and put it back on OVER the duck?

I don't know how to make something transparent (I tried, it didn't work)

Or, put the duck "on" the bottle (where it would be in it) and use a glass filter/effect of some kind over it (the bottle)?

Just something I'd like to use to learn from. I have PSP7, Photoshop 6 and 7.

And, a few other programs (not sure they'd relate but they do other things) like FLASH 5 and Publisher. And Word, with clip art (looked in there and nothing seemed suitable, and it wasn't realistic looking)

This is proba... Read more

You do realize they SLI larger cards and even run tri and quad configurations.

If you had an i3, you might should worry about bottlenecking. However with an i5, I think you are good to go. Even then it would depend on how CPU intensive your games are.

Not sure if this is what you are wanting to do but you can go to ctrl panels, then users, then change the way users log on and off, then uncheck use welcome screen.

If you are wanting ot not have to enter your password every time (or hit enter if you didn't set one up), you can dl TweakUI from Microsoft (its a free powertoy) and it will have an option in there somewhere (can't be bothered to look right now) that you can check or something to auto login.

For someone who hasn't done a Vista slipstream, I did do an SP one once. I assume you got the instructions from the tutorial on this site?

What worm do you have, and are you sure you got rid of it the first time? Do you have any other computers networked that might also have it? I suppose I might as well ask where you got your vLite? Did you use WINRAR for anything?

The process probably takes as much memory as it can to save time. The process has to go through and compare files to see which one needs to go on the slipstream. It takes a lot of processing power, hard drive usage and probably memory as you have noted.

Did it work?

I had a discussion here a few weeks ago about performance and potential bottle necks from the hard drive. I've still had a number of times when I've had my system Hang / Pause, and I believe it was just waiting for the hard drive to catch up. I left the performance monitor open and managed a couple screen shots shortly after the time the computer paused / hung.

I'm not sure what the difference is between the green line and the blue line on the graph. But my graphs frequently look something like that when my system is hanging.

I am running stuff in the background that is accessing the drive (backup's, coping photos / videos, etc.)

Can you tell me what the blue vs green means on the graph? I see on the screen where it says Disk I/O by the Green and Highest Active Time by the blue, but don't know what they mean by highest active time.

Does this look like I am maxing out my drives ability and that is what is slowing down my computer?

I have a constant 'related searches' bar which says 'Glass Bottle' at the top which I cannot get rid of, am getting pop-up ads every few minutes which open up a new tab and take over the whole screen and constant warnings/ pop up boxes telling me my computer is at risk and trying to sell me fixes.
I have used Malware Bytes twice to try to remove it (the first scan it deleted 43 infected files, the second only 2), I have removed the program from my computer using Control Panel, I have run an adware removal program and I have removed the Glass Bottle extension from both Google Chrome and Internet Explore, then re-set the settings, yes I am still getting very frequent pop-ups, noisy ads and cannot get rid of the search bar.
Please help!!

I've made many family histories using Publisher 2002. Now I have a new computer with Publisher 2007. It converts the files and many times messes the pages up. I've had to retype many of them. Now, I'm trying to write a new family history and wanted to make a family tree page. I wanted to make small boxes to put in the names of the family members. I can't find the tools to make lines, boxes, or even ovals that I've used before. Can anyone give me a hint as to where I'll find the tools to do so. Publisher 2002 was so easy to use, but this new one is a pain in the neck!! Thanks for any help or suggestions. lilart

A:Solved: Publisher 2007 a pain in the neck

I would NOT be using Publisher to do what you are trying to do.

There are several VERY good Family Research programs out there. I would spend some time in looking to using one.
I have been using Family Tree Maker since the early DOS days and is well worth the money spent over the years.

I'm having really hard time removing this dawn Glass Bottle thing from Chrome on my PC (Windows 7), this turns quickly any Chrome surf session into a nightmare...
Maybe someone here can help.
I have already done the following :
- check and uninstall all suspects software
- remove glass bottle extension in Chrome and reset Chrome settings
- run adwcleaner : it has cleaned quite a lot of stuff, nevertheless there is always 2 or 3 items detected when I run a new scan....
- run Malewarebytes : it has cleaned quite a lot of stuff (like 80 items), but like with adwcleaner now the scan is still detecting 2-3 items each time, even after cleaning everything.
Chrome has improved a bit - I means the frequency of unwanted popups have decreased, but it's still there ....
I still have the left part of the screen used to show adds in under the title "Released search by Glass Bottle" in some pages. Sometimes a click on a link in a normal page is opening a stupid web site proposing games sites or browser (Mustang..), sometimes the popups are covering the bottom of the page, sometimes it is impossible to simply read the page as some of it is covered by adds and unaccessible any longer.
Firefox and IE are still clean.
I have downlodaed FRST64 and have the txt log files attached to this post, as well as txt output file of the last adwcleaner run.
Can someone help me ?
Thanks !

I have a problem with Internet Explorer loading on top of itself, each and every time I access the web.

The first download is just fine. Everything as it should be on my yahoo page.

Then, about five seconds after it loads, it loads again with the smaller screen. Every time, the second load is an add of some kind. Always a different add. I have counted twenty-two so far. So I am assuming that I have some kind of an add-ware gremlin. And, I suspect that all the adds are coming from the same place. I just can?t figure out how to get rid of the little monster.

I have run a deep virus scan with Fix-It Utilities 10 and can not seem to come up with anything out of order there. All seems good. But my little gremlin continues to show his ugly little face each time I access the web.

I am running Windows XP, 2002 Home Edition, Service Pack Three.

Any help would be appreciated. Just please be kind and don?t hit me with all the heavy computer terminology. I know you understand it, but I sure don?t. Just talk to me as if I am indeed the idiot I sometimes think I am.

Grateful for your time,

What is up with Outlook 2003?? In the previous versions when I try to search for keywords in emails it would bring up a seperate window so I could keep working in Outlook. Now it just uses the right-hand window pane. What a pain/pane!!?? Is there a custom setting somewhere that I haven't found that toggles this on and off?

Thanks tons,

I have and emachine w/Windows Vista Home Basic, I have been having trouble with Zoo on Facebook jamming my computer to the point that I have to hit Ctrl/Alt/Delete to bring up Task Manager and Ending Task - sometimes having to End Process. Tonight when I did this, I had to End Process and somehow my whole desktop turned sideways. My tool bar and the bottom of the screen went to the right while the top went to the left and I now have a vertical screen display. How do I return this to it's normal display? I looked under my Control Panel and couldn't find anything to correct this. HELP! I'm getting an awful crick in my neck!

When i removed "Bootskin" or some other program (don't really remember, because i had this problem for 4 months) the default setting that was set to "open" My computer or Windows explorer changed to next in line "Search" i think. I said to myself no problem, i know where to change this back, and when i change it back to "open", every time i opened My computer or Windows Explorer, window is opening in a new window not in a same window. I checked the settings, and changed them back and forth to "open each folder in same window" and "open each folder in it's own window" and those setting won't apply. Then i tried to set new settings in "File Types" tab, but i think i didn't made correct settings because nothing changed. I've changed i think "File Folder" or "Folder", added the command open that was missing, but selected the explorer.exe to execute that command. I think i had to do something more.. Anybody knows, how to get back my original setting (without system restore suggestion please, because i turned it off a long time ago :)), and is there i way to delete these settings that are already active? ("remove" seems not to be active when i click on open, find, or something else)
I used "Windows commander" in this time, instead of Win Explorer because for me it's very annoying that i have to close 7, 8 windows.

Hi thefilterhead

Some quick-fix tries:
1) Visit the Kelley's Korner XP Tweak site page in the following link, and try the fix on line #30 (for saving user settings) and #69 (for reuse windows). These are direct Registry changes, and tend to stick --- http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
2) Try repairing or going to a newer version of IE (it shares a lot of files with Explorer, and this can sometimes help).
3) Try running a Registry Cleaner, in case some entries in your Registry are sticking around and gumming up the changes you want to make. I like CCleaner for this sort of work - the "Cleaner" functions can help trim up your temp file storage, and the "Issues" functions can help sweep up unwanted Registry leftovers. Run the "Issues" function a few times, until it reports "no issues found". You can grab CCleaner over at cnet --- http://www.download.com/CCleaner/300...-10315544.html
4) In case any system files have jumped back a version or two during a program install, try using Windows File Protection to check and replace any that aren't playing with team spirit: from the Start/Run box, type

sfc /scannow

... the program might prompt for either your Windows installaton CD, or the spot on your hard drive where your .cab files are. It will only do so if it finds a version problem, or a file missing. The program will leave entries in the Event Viewer for when it starts, when it stops, and what files it re... Read more

First, you need to create a separate folder of its own for the Hijack This program for it to work properly.

Once, you've done that, scan again and post a new Hijack This log. I need to be sure the files haven't changed before posting the removal instructions.

It's important that you do not reboot the computer once you post the new log.

Hey everyone. I just subscribed to these forums because I was hoping to get some advice about what to do. My tech knowledge is pretty limited, so I will try to explain the problems to the best of my ability.

I'm running Vista Home Premium x64. At least 4-5 times a day my computer completely freezes up and will remain that way until I manually restart it. I've looked at the problem reports and solutions and there seems to be 2 main problems. Most of the errors are under the group called "windows." the Problem event name states there was a blue screen error. I've heard of the blue screen error, but I thought it was odd that my screen didn't actually turn blue. The other problems are under the group "windows explorer." The error name there is "AppHangB1." I have no idea what that means. Any help would be much appreciated! thank you.

A:64-bit troubles. Need help!

Hi Brian, how old is your computer and did you buy it from a shop?

List your system specs.

Does your computer hang in safe mode?

Have you got service pack 1 installed?

AppHang error is where an application will hang, mainly due to memory errors.

Check out your cooling and run a memory test.

You can also look in your performance and reliability logs as well as the error logs you have looked in.

The peroformance logs are a good thing to look at because it gives you a chart showing how reliable your computer is on a day to day basis.

You need to supply more info from your error logs to help more.

Hello everyone. I recently received an Acer TravelMate 2480 laptop for free.
When I first got the computer it was chock full of junk but it worked ok. The speed was fine for the games I wanted to play and the applications I wanted to run.
Originally it had Windows XP Home and I decided to reformat and put XP Pro and Ubuntu on it. So I proceeded to reformat and install Ubuntu. Once I had it installed it ran very poorly, (laggy, choppy, and very slow.) So I decided to skip the Ubuntu and just reformat and use XP Pro instead.
After I got XP Pro on it it ran very poorly still. I went to Acer's website and installed all of the original drivers on it. The problem still didn't get any better. It performs very poorly. When I start programs that used to start very quickly (before the reformat) they delay now anywhere from 1 - 30 seconds before starting. Some don't start at all. It's just generally very slow and now when I run games like Counter-Strike 1.6 (which ran flawlessly before the reformat) it acts like it can't even handle it. The animations are slow and choppy.
I enabled automatic update and it installed 3 updates right after I finished installing Windows but now it shows the yellow shield icon in the bottom right and when I mouse over it it says "Downloading updates 0%" and it wont move. I also tried to use the windows update site but all it does is say that its searching for updates for my computer and wont go any further.
It should also be noted that the copy of Windows I ... Read more

I had a tech redo my computer. Afterwards I could not get my commercial Ricoh printer to acknowledge my computer. I had a Ricoh tech come out to see what could be wrong. He said that my computer USB port is not recognizing my computer. However, he did not know how to fix that.
I have Windows 8.1

A:USB troubles

One way to diagnose this type of issue is to use other hardware and see what happens.

1. Does the Ricoh work if you connect it to a different computer..? If "yes" then the Ricoh is good, if "no" then perhaps that is where you should first look.

2. Do other devices work in the USB port(s)..? If "yes" then the computer and the ports are talking to each other. If "no" then that is where you should first look.
