[SOLVED] Reinstalled Windows XP - No internet connection + missing installed drivers

Q: [SOLVED] Reinstalled Windows XP - No internet connection + missing installed drivers

After having trouble with the Win32 heur or W32.sality virus I lost my patient and Completly reinstalled Windows XP Media center edition...

I had bought my PC from packard bell and had support, cd-backup + instructions and everything registered to packard bell, My PC Was A Packard Bell.
Then later my motherboard got trouble and crashed alot... So I eventually bought a new one.

When my pc got the virus I wanted to use the CD-backup I had taken from the pc before the motherboard was changed and also had the support of packard bell.
But the CD did not boot because "information was not valid" and I couldn't use it to reformat and reinstall my Windows XP MC edition.

So I used my student version of the CD, my other cd that would install windows media center edition and also the key for that cd.
I formated everything and left no partition so that superdangerous-virus would die.

After the installation I have no more internet connection and missing drivers installed. I can't update windows because it requires internet which I don't have on that PC. I also no longer seem to have packard bell support.

How can I get those drivers installed on my pc? I have no clue what about the names :( :( :(

I was really tired when I wrote this, hope you understand.

Every post and advice will be greatly appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I posted earlier for my bf but didn't get a response and now his situation is even worse. Instead of waiting until I got there he rushed into doing everything himself. He had a bad virus, kept him from opening any applications or getting on the internet. Then he started deleting things, which finally stopped his computer from running and would get the error there were missing files. So he got a Wins XP disk from someone else to reinstall windows, again rushed into it, instead of waiting so we could use my laptop to get online and get the proper info on how to reinstall. So to make a long story short, he reinstalled it on his own, lost all his documents, photos, etc. on his computer as well as his drivers. He has no original disks for this computer, and now he can't get on the internet, I guess because that driver is missing too. So my question is, can he use a disk with drivers on it from someone else's computer? Or does he need the one's for his particular computer, which the original owner does not have. Not sure where he should go with this, besides taking it somewhere and having them fix it for several $100.

A:Solved: Reinstalled Windows and no internet connection

Hi there.

Did you re-format & re-install using a real Windows XP Pro CD or use the manufacturer's system recovery disk, or do something else?

The problem is probably because the device driver for your laptop's ethernet adapter is not installed.
RIGHT click "my computer".
Left click "manage".
Maximize the screen.
On the left, left click "device manager".
On the right, look for "network adapters".
If there is a "+" sign, left click on it & describe that which you see.
If there is a "-" sign, describe that which you see.
If you don't see "network adapters", it means that the driver is definitely not installed.
If that is the case, hopefully you have access to the internet to download the latest network / ethernet adapter.
Go to "other devices" and describe that which you see.
If "other devices" is not present, do you have "unknown devices"?

So i reinstalled windows 10 on my GPD Win and it seeps that the speaker/controller/built in mouse/wifi/bluetooth/touchscreen, and just about every other driver isnt installed, not even the battery percentage shows up in the task bar. The hardware doesn't show up in settings but i know it works properly due to it working in the UEFI menu. What drivers and what do i need to do to get them working properly again? It seems that the computer can't detect the hardware although it is displaying correctly. Although i cant use a driver detect-and-install utility because the computer isn't showing the ability to connect to wifi, although it did before and i havn't changed any of the hardware.

I believe the sound card is built in, and the drivers being used are Realtek HD audio. I've installed the latest version

I have looked at many solutions concerning the UAA driver, which was also already installed and tried uninstalling both
then reinstalling the UAA driver first but that didn't make any difference.

I put a replacement HDD into my friends computer after hers died. I reinstalled Vista with the disk that came with her computer and the driver disk and in Device manager it says that the display adapter and network controller, sm bus controller, and video controller dont have a driver installed. Dell Tech support told me that I must have installed them in the wrong order. I told them all I did was run the executable file on the drivers disk they sent with the computer. So I told them "I" didn't install the drivers in the wrong order, them and their disk did if that is whats wrong. At any rate... didnt get very far with them. I cant connect to wireless on this POS so getting on the internet is a non-starter but I can use my laptop and download something if I need to and then put it on here via my external HDD. Already tried going to Dells site and putting in service tag and getting driver information. It downloaded last night... should be on here somewhere if they are right but, the "search" computer for software didnt find it... Any suggestions? Thanks a ton!! Kim

My comp keeps crashing on me. I've tried all of the trouble shooting i've found here from these forums and am still having problems. I've done about 30 fresh installs of windows in the past 6 months trying to get it to work properly. Doesn't matter if i'm running of my onboard video or my added vid cards. Doesn't matter if I run one or both RAM sticks. Doesn't matter if I run one or both vid cards. The pop up I get in the corner is what I've gone with for looking into trouble shooting. It refers to the graphics drivers crashing and then recovering. Doesn't matter if nothing is happening or not. Can sit fine for days, can turn it on and get 10 seconds out of it before it crashes. If i had any codes that it would give me I would help more on the situation. But when it crashes and doesn't recover I get no video; on either monitor. I'm getting very frustrated, this is the first time I've ever had this happen. This is the 4th computer I've built. First to involve any windows newer then XP. XP doesn't run my comp the way I would like it to. Some of the programs I use don't work with the 64-bit XP OS.

I had a bunch of viruses on my computer and I kept getting more because one of them hijacked mcafee, preventing me from turning it back on. I tried to restore my system to an earlier date but all the restore dates were too recent so I decided to reinstall windows 7. I didnt have the disk any more so I downloaded it to a usb drive. I succesfully installed it, but when I logged in I noticed it looked completely different. The bottom bar was much larger then it was before, The screen looks zoomed in and the shortcuts are all much bigger, and when I go into control panel or computer the windows take up the entire screen and cant be made smaller, only minimized. Could I have downloaded a wrong version of windows 7? I also failed to realize that I would need to install all new drivers and was very confused when I couldn't connect to the internet. I tried to install the drivers by looking them up with the network cards ven id but it says they aren't supported on my device. Any help will be greatly appreciated as I have no clue what I am doing. Hi, yes, I did something really stupid! I was having major issues with laptop and as a last resort decided to reinstall Windows [should have been Vista]. However, I have two Dell Inspiron laptops and apparently used the wrong disc! I installed Windows XP. Now I have no internet as the Ethernet driver, and a few others, are showing errors. I looked in Device Manager etc and about 8 or 9 drivers were not installed.

Oh, and the correct Windows disc is in US with my computer wiz son, and I'm over in UK! So . . . . is there anyway to install the missing drivers? Or even get Dell or Microsoft to help me get the correct version of Windows to reinstall?

I have internet access on my mini Dell, and also on my desktop - which does have CD writer etc if I needed to download files. Or can that be done on memory stick?

Any help/suggestions would be very much appreciated. [minus the 'dumb woman' remarks!!! I've beat myself up sufficiently]

Thanks so much

I am going to school tomororw and needed this off my computer. So I decided to wipe the hard drive clean with the Dell CDs that came with this purchase. I downloaded Windows XP and some of the drivers. Some of the drivers that i tried to download say they downloaded but then do not come up. Hi everyone, found this site by searching for an answer to my question which has had me stumped for a week now. Basically, I got the blue screen o' death and had to wipe the partition and re-install XP SP2 from my Recovery Disk provided by ibuypower.com with my HEL-80 laptop.

I installed every driver from my supplied CD in order as I'd lost my backups in a recent move. Everything works fine, except: Wireless Internet and Ethernet Controller (Question Mark, driver cannot be found any way I've tried) and my Intel 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controllers: 27CA, 27C9 and 27C8 as well.

The USB issue isn't my priority, but the wireless internet is. I even re-installed XP SP2 a second time, re-installing all drivers to see if I missed something. The card listed on my CD is a Intel Golan 3945ABG, I've downloaded the drivers and it still doesn't appear under my 1394 Net Adapter nor my PCI-E Nic Card either.

I've already contacted the company I purchased the company from and am trying to get in contact with Intel to resolve this issue. I copied the Belarc System Advisor sheet to notepad, and will attach it to this post for a full measure of everything I have. Hope you guys can help, this has stumped quite a few people I know that are fairly good with computers!

A:Solved: Reinstalled XP, missing wireless internet, USB and Ethernet Controller

Well no one wanted to help because it probably seemed dumb, but I finally got it.

The supplied driver CD was incorrect, I did not have an Intel card, rather I had a Gigabyte brand card and I was finally able to locate the correct driver.

Hello everybody, I am a new user here!
Today my computer experienced the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH! I cannot repair because the recovery partition was deleted -_-" As my last resort, I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition. The installation was a success but when I booted it for the first time, there were drivers missing or not installed. There was no internet so I cannot activate my WinXP, no sound, USB ports cannot read my usb but for some reason my USB Mouse works fine, also there is no firewall installed either. When I got my computer, it came with Windows Vista pre-installed so I do not have the disk, I also do not have any disk that contain the files for my drivers. I went to the HP website support page and went to this link (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3458416&lang=en&) but there is only one useless driver for Windows XP! I tried to copy the drivers for Windows Vista but of course.. that failed. My question for you guys is: Where can I get the drivers for my computer?

I have re-installed WIN 7 on my laptop. I did not have the cd's from Dell, so I purchased and used a WIN 7 disc. After re-installing WIN 7, my internet connection was not functioning. Under Device Manager, the following had yellow warning signs next to them:

Ethernet Controller
Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N+WiMax 6250
Network Controller
PCI Simple Communications Controller.

I am assuming that these devices are missing the drivers required for their operation. I tried running Intel_My_WiFi_Dashboard_15.1.1_s64. It told me I needed to install dotNetFx40_Full_Setup. I attempted to run this program, but a lack of an internet connection prevented it from completing. I am unsure of what to try next. Any help would be appreciated.

If this has already been answered under another post, I apologize for re-posting, and would be more then glad to read the original thread if someone can post a link.

Thank you for any help you have,

Desperate User.

Hi, I recently reformatted and reinstalled Windows XP Professional on my HP Compaq nc6120 Notebook PC. After I finished, the internet wasn't working. It says i'm connected in the lower right hand corner, but I get no IP address when I do "ipconfig" in Command Prompt.

I noticed the laptop is missing quite a few different drivers though, and i'm pretty sure these are the problem. They're under "Other Devices" in my Device Manager:
These all have yellow !'s on them

Ethernet Controller
Mass Storage Controller
Multimedia Audio Controller
Network Controller
PCI Modem
PCI Simple Communications Controller
Video Controller
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

I looked up my laptop on the HP website for the drivers and found it, but honestly can't make heads or tails of them. I don't know which drivers listed I need to fix the above driver issues.

Here is the link to the laptop drivers on the HP website: Here
Product: Compaq nc6120

Hp support of course tried charging me to help me fix it. Not that I would have been able to understand the tech support guy if they did try to help (yay outsourcing).

Heres what you can try go to the HP website and for your model of computer download all of the xp drivers that you are missing in the device mgr.and for future use download all of the xp drivers so that you will have them. drivers are very easy to install once downloaded. if you have another computer to use to get the drivers put them on a cd or usb flash drive and install them to the computer that needs the drivers.

I had trouble with XP so after searching around the net, I decided to go for the reinstall of XP. Long story short, I ended up doing this about 4 or 5 times but it didnt solve the problem; I encountered more problems along the way (http://www.kbalertz.com/Feedback_830085.aspx < this problem; http://archive.midrange.com/cpf0000/200303/msg00037.html < this problem, explorer.exe always needing to be closed, etc.)

Well on my last try I practically lost all hope, so I think I ended up opening the Recovery Console. So I dont exactly remember anymore what happened but now I have a new install of XP, although I think all my files are still somewhere in the harddrive because it has only half the total disk space left (which is how it was, before I mucked everything up). Problem is, I don't know where they are, and I cant access some folders on C:/ too.

I need my files! Can I still do anything to salvage this?

Let me know if you need more details.

Oh, I'm probably not quite intermediate, but not quite a beginner either. Heh. Oh, and I cant do links here...yet.

Hi, I clean installed Windows 7 on my HP Pavilion DV6-6C35DX laptop using these 2 guides:

SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Clean Install Windows 7

I noticed when I was installing Windows 7, I never had a screen pop up (step 17) asking about my network location type. After Windows was installed, my laptop couldn't find any networks regardless if I tried plugging an ethernet cord from my modem into my laptop. When I click troubleshoot it says, "Install a driver for your network adapter". I click next it says, "Windows could not find a driver for your network adapter". I look in my Device Manager, I see under Other Devices it lists: Ethernet Controller, Network Controller, PCI Device, SM Bus Controller, Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller, Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller, Unknown Device, and Unknown Device all with yellow exclamation marks next to them.

My Googlefu skills told me that when clean installing windows it only installs generic drivers, and I need to install the drivers on my motherboard disk. The problem is my laptop didn't come with any such disk. I tried going on HP's website on another computer, and burning all the network drivers onto a blank DVD ( can't use a USB since those drivers are not working). When I installed them nothing really happened.

I usually like to figure this stuff out by myself, but I've ran out of ideas.

A:Clean installed Windows 7, multiple drivers missing.

You are on the right track, going to the website. You probly didn`t put the network drivers on the disc properly. Just get the network driver, don`t worry about the others. You can fix those once you get online.

Save the driver downloads to the desktop of the pc you are using, then copy them to a cd, don`t burn them, and they should work fine. You only need the 1 to start with. Your realtek LAN ethernet driver. ( bottom of the network list )

Once you get online, you can use windows update. When you`re done, if you have still have drivers missing, then go back to the website.

Very odd your usb won`t work.

Hi, I'm writing on the behalf of my brother, who's (desktop) PC is in the room as I write this on my laptop. We usually share our internet connection (I am still using it), but he is no longer able to connect.

In the past, he has gotten a "A network cable has been unplugged" message several times in seemingly random intervals, restarting his PC would usually fix this.

However yesterday he got a message: "This connection has limited or no connectivity" and his game (AlienSwarm at the time (through steam)) stalled out and he decided to restart the PC yet again, only this time after the reboot, he not only wasn't reconnected to the internet, he also couldn't find the Local Area Connection icon(s) in his Network Connections window, the only thing there is a "1394 Connection" which we have no clue about.

I'm gonna add my skype here if any helpful people need more info on this :P Feel free to add jaan.stern

Hi and welcome.

Have you tried the HP site? Have you googled for example your model + drivers?

How To Find Drivers:

- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try ... Read more

Hi Guys,

Also my game medieval total war game no longer seems to work after the reinstall. Thanks for anyone's help.

Yesterday I got my old desktop computer (9-12 y.o.) running again. I checked it out, and everything seemed to be working - including the various internet connections. But then I erased the harddrive and reinstalled the OS succesfully. Nothing went wrong, but now I can't connect to the internet. I spent approx. 10 hours searching the web - including this forum - for a solution, and found many, but none of them seem to be working for me.

It seems like all drivers are properly installed - my network card is a Realtek RTL9138/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC, and since it worked before, it should work now. I installed the drivers with the "Drivers and Utilities" disc that came along, and it should be enough, shouldn't it?

- I also have a ZyXEL Wireless Adapter, which does not seem to be anywhere to find, even though I installed it as well (at least I think I did). The message I get time and time again is: "No network cable connected" (translated from Danish).

If you have any ideas whatsoever, I will be (and I'm not exaggerating) eternally grateful. I am very frustrated indeed.

I have just reinstalled windows on my son's laptop due to a virus. He doesn't reside at my home and I am tryng to connect to the internet through my router. I disabled Windows firewall, but still can't connect. Message keeps telling me that a "network cable is disconnected". I have repaired his laptop before and was able to connect immediately, but not this time.

I checked Device Manager and there is a yellow exclamation at "Network Controller". Maybe I didn't do something correctly this time or forgot to do something. This laptop is a used one bought on ebay and it's an older model. I would like to reinstall drivers for it, but can't if I can't get an internet connection.

BTW, I am a 67 yr. old lady and a little bit computer literate, unless things are really complicated..lol. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

A:Reinstalled XP on laptop- No internet connection

Using a computer that has network access get the chipset and networking drivers from the PC manufacturer's web site. Copy them to your son's laptop using removable media (CD, USB flash drive, etc.). Install the chipset drivers first.

I am having trouble with a custom built windows xp computer. The computer was bringing up the error: Windows cannot start due to the following missing or corrupt file: c:\windows\system32\config\system

Or something along those lines...
So, I have redownloaded windows xp onto the computer but I do not have the disc with the drivers. I cannot connect to the internet using that computer, which is directly connected through an ethernet cable. There is no option for "Network Adaptors" under device manager. But, I cannot seem to find the necessary drivers online to transfer them via usb to the computer.

The motherboard is an MSI CoreCell
AMD Athalon 4000+ Processor
Hitachi Deskstar Hard Drive 250GB
Thank you.

A:Windows XP newly installed, but no drivers & can't connect to internet

You will need to look directly onto the motherboard for the model information in order for us to know what downloads you need for drivers.

Here's some help on how to look up the ID for your board:

Look under this section at the above site > Stability Problems - How to identify your motherboard model and BIOS version

If you locate the model please post it and we can point you to the downloads for your MSI

A:Just installed Windows XP and have no Internet connection

If this is a self-built or custom built PC, go to the motherboard manufacturer's website to locate the drivers you need. If the PC was made by a manufacturer like Dell, HP, Sony, eMachines, etc., go to the manufacturer's website for your drivers.

I reinstalled my Windows 7 pc and all of a sudden I am not able to connect to the Internet. On the Net I found that other people who had the same problem found out that Ethernet drivers are missing.

When I look at my Device Manager my ethernet adapter has exclamation marks and when I look at the properties it says "Unknown" as to what type it is.

I do not know what to do further. Please help.
