I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I think rebooting could maybe make things worse, so I figured it would be better to ask for advice before attempting to reboot again, so I don't have the scanning information required.

I began to have problems with my computer this morning (June 29). Last night I had let windows install its updates, rebooted, and left the computer on overnight. When I got up the next morning, it had an error about win32.exe encountering an error and needing to close, one of those error report ones. The first time I didn't bother telling it to send. However, afterwards the taskbar disappeared and ctrl+alt+del didn't do anything. I had to reboot manually, and then it was fine for a while until having another win32 error report, which I sent, and after which my sound failed to work for certain things. My winamp had an error about missing something and wouldn't play, and a youtube video's sound wouldn't play. I didn't have to shut it down manually this time, and the shutdown sound worked. The sound worked again afterward, but I tried virus scanning with Avira and it stopped on svchost.exe.mdmp at 22.1%, and it only found a java/openconnect.l for a ?detection?. I tried getting the task manager, and when I tried ctrl+alt+del and clicked it, it not only didn't give me the task manager at all but it took my taskbar, and then nothing else would work when clicked. I rebooted again and tried running MalwareBytes, and then after a couple minutes the screen went black and then turned blue, and had this:... Read more

Bump, please.
I also forgot to mention that after I rebooted the 2nd time, Google Chrome appeared on my computer, but I never installed it. So there's something weird going on there too.

I am attempting to restore Windows XP Media Center Edition on a Compaq Presario SR1750NX Desktop PC using the System Restore option activated by pressing F10. Upon pressing F10, the system appears to load the PC Restore files but when it tries to execute them, it generates the following error:

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of
0xc0000034 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.

No CD's are available as the machine shipped with the System Restore feature on a protected partition.
I would prefer a "restore" solution, as opposed to other reinstall options, in order to maintain use of additional software (such as Windows Office) that came preinstalled on the machine.

Any suggestions on how I might clear the issue generating the error message so I can proceed with the system restore?
Any suggestions on how I might otherwise approach the problem?

Thanks in advance as any and all assistance is much appreciated.

A:Compaq Presario generates Fatal System Error when attempting PC Restore

If you decide you need the 2-CD system recovery disc kit for that Compaq Presario SR1750NX (EL445AA) desktop, you can purchase it from Computer Surgeons HP Recovery Center for $27.00 plus shipping.

That desktop was manufactured in November 2005, so HP will no longer have it available for purchase.

The kit will allow it to be reverted back to its original factory condition - complete with all the software and "bloatware" that came in it.

If the hard drive dies and needs to be replaced, the kit is going to be needed anyway to get that desktop going again.

I'm having a problem with my sister in law's computer. Originally, she had that annoying XP 2008 virus/spyware, which I think I managed to get rid of with Malwarebytes' Anti Malware and System Mechanic 7. Now I have a new problem. After receiving a recent download from microsoft, upon restarting, I get the blue screen of death with this message;

STOP: C000021a (Fatal System Error) The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000)

I can't get anywhere into Windows, I've done F2, F8, F12, everything I could think of without risking more damage since I'm not trained for this. I've booted from the system mechanic CD with the Hard Drive recovery, and while it said it found and fixed a problem, it didn't fix this one. I have no windows CD. The computer is a Dell, and it's running Windows XP service pack 2 with Explorer 6. Heeeeeelp! Other than the F keys, I can't get anywhere with this computer.

I have a computer that was Windows Vista. It was heavily invested with tons of viruses and programs that shouldn't have been downloaded. It did not have anything important that needed to be kept. I planned on installing Windows 7 so I ran the windows 7 upgrader to ensure it would work, and it passed the tests.

I wiped the hard drive. I then tried to install windows 7 and when choosing the unallocated space on the hard drive to install it to, I get the error "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the setup log files for more information."

I'm using a bootable usb flash drive. The iso is an official windows 7 iso from this site: http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads.12325/. I have used this iso to install windows 7 on other computers and haven't had a problem. I'm using this program to burn the iso to the flash drive: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/. I have also used this program before and never had any problems.

After failing to install, I tried to install ubuntu on the computer and it installed with no problems. Then, tried installing windows 7 alongside ubuntu and still got the same error.

The computer is a toshiba satellite A205-S5866

Any help would be appreciated.

so my custom pc was working all fine and everything up until I cleaned the dust catchers (with a dry rag). When I turned it on again, it kept on boot cycling. I managed to fix this by taking out the RAM and putting it back in.

However, when it turned on fully, my SSD seemed to be messed up, in that windows was no longer installed. I downloaded another windows ISO file (windows 10 academic), and made a bootable USB drive. When the computer booted into the installer, I tried installing windows on my SSD (Drive 0 unallocated Space), however I get 'We couldn't install Windows in the location you chose. Please check your media drive. Heres more about what happened: 0X80300002.'

The drive is completely wiped, due to the the delete and format options being greyed out and the free space matching up with total space.

I also formatted my hard drive and attempted to install on that, to the same error.

You say you need to upgrade to 64 bits. May I ask why? Apparently the Pentium D might be slower when running 64 bits applications than 32 bits.

Hi,I have fundamentally the same problem as Laura H from this thread http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic342716.html.I've had problems with these fake antivirus programs before and they really did a number on my laptop. I treated the problem using various tools mostly malware bytes and deleting some suspect files.Been working fine for the most part however today out out of nowhere I was attacked by malware doctor. Hi, I've had my current PC for a few years now and in that time I've done a fresh installation of Win7 several times always via USB. Today I inserted my trusty flash drive, set it as priority device in BIOS and after pressing "any key to boot from USB" I get hit with "A disk read error occurred". This has never happened before and I'm using the same 8GB flash drive I've always used.

I've spent the entire day reading threads on here and other forums and am absolutely stuck. Here's what I have done thus far:

- Tried the flash drive in every available USB port

- Created a new ISO from my original win7 disc and put it on USB using different methods (Rufus, WinToUSB, wintobootic and even just using the classic CMD)

- Tested the flash drive on 2 other computers, both of which were able to boot and load the Windows installer without issue

- Tried several other flash drives, all gave the same error but worked fine on the other computers

- Tested a flash drive with Ubuntu which worked fine so I know I'm not unable to boot from USB full stop

- Looked around BIOS to change things people have suggested but none of the options like disabling secure boot appear for me. This really shouldn't be an issue anyway as it's always worked before.

Now, there have been 2 very odd things happen. Firstly, after trying for hours and hours I unplugged the hard drive I had in there (sata) and replaced it with a brand new one (ssd). When I pressed a key to boot I didn't get a... Read more

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop (c. 2009) that had Windows 7 Home Premium on it. A couple months ago, I did the free upgrade to Windows 10 after continually getting prompted by Windows. Big surprise, my computer is not compatible, and therefore I can't see
anything on the monitor without plugging it into the TV via a HDMI cable, the "Start" button at the bottom left corner doesn't work, etc. It would also not let me go back to Windows 7 within the 30 days period. The laptop works perfectly fine minus
Windows 10 have screwed it up.

After talking to Dell support, they said Windows 7 needed to be reinstalled via a DVD. My friend had an original, unopened Dell reinstallation DVD with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. When I try to do the reinstall, I choose "look for updates,"
and when it is in the "Setup is copying temporary files" first part of the install, the Unexpected error message with error code 0X6 telling to restart install pops up. I have tried multiple times, and I continually get the same error message.

Upon booting with the windows disk and going through those early steps, delete the partition, then start over by installing a new partition.
Then format the drive.
Once formatted, the rest of the install will take care of itself.
But spend some time to search for and download all the drivers, unless you have a complete set of the drivers for that model.

Hi There,
I am having problems getting a sysprep to work on a Windows 7 Professional and am at the end of my rope with trying to figure out why. I was hoping someone here may be able to help.

Here is the situation. We use FOG for PxE network deployment of images to our PCs. I have delt with a few situations where sysprep has failed because of certain services or programs installed (generally after the sysprep is complete failing when its trying to configure the services after rebooting the machines). I have set up a successful sysprepped image for our windows 7 machines that I wanted to update and add in microsoft essentials into and then re-sysprep for future deployments. I wasnt knowledgeable enough to save an image before the initial sysprep for updating the image prior to the first sysprep.

But anyway, I'm trying to work with what I got without having to go through the anguish of reinstalling the OS, Software, Drivers, etc.

Now heres the problem, I take that first image (that was sysprepped) deploy it to a PC, update it, add in microsoft essentials, and try to resysprep it to cut off having to do all that work every deployment. I get a "Fatal error has occured" while it is performing the sysprep actions (still in windows before a reboot after running the native windows 7 sysprep utility).

I have sysprepped machines before with Microsoft Essentials and it has worked fine, I went through the logs and found that it re-armed windows fine so its not that, I hav... Read more

I'm thinking I need to reformat the whole hard drive, is this the case, or would I be able to save certain files ??? I've seen software available like FreeDOS and e-maxx, but I'm not quite sure what these do or how to work them either..I'm really stuck, and suck...please!!

Any help would be much appreciated!

A friend called me last night desperate. She is leaving town to go home in 2 days and her PC shut down last night. Every time she re-boots she receives a BSOD with the C0000021a error. I have tried SAFE mode to no avail, and also attempted to boot using last know good config. No good. I also tried the "Repair the Computer" option during boot. Nothing is working.
I have also attempted CHKSDK /f and even though it found and corrected errors, the same BSOD appears.
We do not have the original PC disks as they are at her home.
The PC is a Dell Laptop. I'm currently offloading her files to an external drive via KNOPPIX so that at least we save her documents, pictures and music. Please help me try to get the PC operational again.

Hello, as of the last three weeks, I've noticed windows (XP) restarting out of the blue, especially when i logged on. At first i thought it might be the fact that I'm typing the wrong password but then i recived a windows has survived a fatal error. At first i shrugged it off and hoped that because it survived it would be fine. Of course i recived it again yesterday so i went into details which was barely any help but to give me the name if the problematic files.
1) C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini042204-01.dmp
2) C:\DOCUME~1\user\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER9.tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml

I did a search on both, the first appears to be of unknown origin, I'm figuring spyware or some kind of garbage. The second however appears to be a a driver or something of signifiance. I went to microsfts web site to see how to solve it. In the article i had read it said that i should try to rollback the driver, but i don't know what driver to roll back. It also told me to do a sys restore, which i dearly want to avoid. Please help, I don't want to have to take this thing into the morons who put it together. (which is one of he possible causes for this problem, poorly installed hardware or drivers) Thanx tech support guy!

Hi I was wonderin if anyone could help me with my problem. When I trun on my computer the following message appears. I have tried a system restore but the message keeps coming up wondering if anyone knew how to solve it??

The message appears as follows:

Windows is unable to start because the registry could not be updated. To address this problem, please contact your computer manufacturer. Windows must now shut down.

Press OK to view he Setup log file.

Setup detected that the system file named [c:\windows\system32\dpcdll.ll] is not signed properly by Microsoft. This file could not be restored to the correct Microsoft version. Use the SFC utility to verify the integrity of the file.

I anyone has any idea how I can solve the problem it would be very helpful. I have no idea what the SFC utility is, if you could point me in the right direction.

Many Thanks Paul

A:Windows XP not loading due to fatal error?!?!

Go to:

Start > Run

and type:

Press enter.

A black window should appear. Type

sfc /scannow

Press enter.

You might need your Windows XP CD, so have it handy. It may take a while for the scan to complete, but it is important to let it run completely.

The second laptop on my house (Toshiba Satellite A300) has been disabled due to a fatal error.
I searched around and it is supposedly associated with drivers, which fits the problem.
According to the person that used the computer:
Upon plugging in a new music player (mp4) and seeing what seemed like a correct install, the computer was turned off. Full battery.
The next morning, after turning on the computer, now apparently with a completely drained battery.
The error appeared and after going through the system repair menu, that didn't solve anything, the computer prompted the user to "disconnect the driver/music player" and reboot.
It did not work.
System restore doesn't work either and the only options left are the command line and the HDD clean up.

Any ideas?

A:Windows Vista Fatal Error

Can you boot into Windows - either normal or Safe Mode?
What version of Windows (your profile says XP, but this is a Vista/Win7 forum)

Try Startup Repair 3 times (with player not connected):
Win7: Startup Repair - Windows 7 Forums
Vista: Startup Repair - Vista Forums

Other things to try:
- I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests. They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:

H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
Memory Diagnostics (read the details at the link)
HD Diagnostic (read the details at the link)

Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: Free Online AntiMalware Scanners (read the details at the link)

If you can't get into Windows, then post back and we'll see what else we can suggest.

EDIT: Moveds to Vista from AII~~boopmeHey all,so yesterday the Windows Explorer on my Vista started acting up. Every time I right-click an icon on my desktop or in one of my folders it gives me a fatal error and restarts. I've had this computer for two years now and have never encountered this error before. hello. i've been having some major issues recently which i initially thought was software related, but i'm now thinking it may be hardware related.

last week i tried turning on my pc, but instead of booting normally, it would stop after the windows loading screen and just reset. so it was basically a boot/reset loop which i had no control over. i tried fixing this by booting in safe mode and restoring windows to a previous state. i was able to boot windows normally by doing this, but it still wasn't quite right - everything seemed very slow.

i decided to reinstall windows this weekend. first attempt seemed to go smoothly enough, but once it had completed the installation and after it had been running for a few hours i was starting to get problems. when i rebooted once after installing some software/drivers, it came up with a message saying that it had had to replace some registry data (or something like that) and also came up with some language error.

i thought this was all very strange, so i decided to give it another fresh install. however, on the second attempt, when it got to 39mins remaining on the install, it came up with this:

The signature for windows xp home edition setup is invalid. The error code is 800b0100.

No signature was present in the subject.

Fatal error:

Setup failed to install the product catalogs. This is a fatal error. The
setup log files should contain more information.

i have since tried to install again, but when i tr... Read more

Hi everyone,
This morning I turned on my PC (Windows 7 x64) and I get this blue screen error STOP:c000021a [FATAL SYSTEM ERROR].
I can't even get passed the starting windows screen it just keeps on rebooting then getting blue screen again. I've tried safe mode and last known configuration point. Both just give me blue screen after the drivers are loaded. Haven't installed anything new recently so I don't know what the cause of this problem could be. I apparently have no system restore points even though Norton would make them every scan. I can get to command prompt and that is the only thing I can get to. Is there a way I can fix this through command prompt. I think I've attached the screen it gives me and that's all I know.
