I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Dell PC doesn't boot up. I turn it on and the green power light is on. The monitor I use doesn't respond nothing pops up like it should. The tower beeps at me after a short amount of time. Typically in this kind of case I would think the MB is messed up but I dont know for sure. It would be great to hear some feedback. Thank you

A:Optiplex 755 wont boot up, beeps, doesn't connect to monitor

That beeping is an error code, theres also diagnostic lights that Dell uses, see here: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/op755/en/UG/HTML/trouble.htm#wp1302445

In most cases the issue is with the RAM or video card.

I bought this PC used on ebay last week and it only boots for between 3 and 8 seconds and gives an error msg that says:

"Alert! Previous attempts at booting this system have failed at checkpoint [Ithr]. For help in resolving this problem, please note this checkpoint and contact Dell Technical Support."

Sometimes when you start it the CPU fan sounds like its going way too fast, Ive read this is because the PC hasn't booted enough to control the fan speed yet.

Ive also read that this model of PC has been plagued with problems regarding expanding or leaking capacitors and when I looked at the mobo with a flashlight, sure enough there is 1 capacitor behind the cpu that looks exactly like what a leaking capacitor looks like in the photos Ive seen on the net. But, the photos I have seen of PCs that have failed due to this problem always seem to have about 6 or more failed capacitors that are bloated and leaking.

And I just find it hard to believe that an ebay top seller pc store with 100% positive feedback would ship me a pc without turning it on first so I have a slim hope that it may be something else. Ive tried running it with no drives attached and also with 1 ram stick instead of the 2 it came with (tried them both one at a time) still same thing. And I removed the little battery for 10 minutes to reset the bios, no change.

There are 4 error lights on the back of the PC that are supposed to give you a code to help figure out whats wrong, problem is the ... Read more

There is currently nothing in add/remove programs by the way.

A:Dell Optiplex Drivers wont install

What did you use to reinstall XP? If you know someone who has a Dell computer, perhaps they have the cd with the necessary drivers on it for you to use. Or contact Dell and see if you can get the cd's for your particular model of computer. their cd's include all the necessary drivers, at least that has been my experience.

I have a Dell Optiplex SX270 Desktop that has always ran windows XP and it has ran acceptable. I shut it off Friday at the end of business and went to turn it on Monday and it will not turn on. I assumed it could be the PSU so I swapped it out with another adapter from a similar computer and it still doesn't work. The light on the mother board will turn on but the fans will not. Dell's support site said to take out the hard drive and the ram but this didn't have any effect. They said that after the ram is taken out and you try to power it up again the system should emit a beep code, but this did not happen. Does anyone else have any suggestions for me to try?

A:Dell Optiplex SX270 wont turn on

Unless you have a power supply tester, and a spare known good power supply, the best thing to do is to take the tower to a shop and have the power supply tested. If the power supply tests "bad" then they could jump a known good power supply to the motherboard and see if the board is good.

I do these tests in my shop quite often. It takes about 20 minutes and the cost should be minimal, perhaps $25-$30.

See Question-title. I have USBs a male 9-pin VGA output, a display port, and another narrow slit port (not HDMI) I've tried a Display port to HDMI cable into TV but no joy. when I click on "device managers" I have three ports: Com1, ECP printer (LPT1) and Intel Active mangament technology SOL (COM)3

my TV is a Samsung HD with two HDMI ports. a 15 hole female VGA, and 2 scarts. I would be happy to get only visual to TV at the moment but how? Regarding audio, let's leave that for another time.

I tried calling Samsung but lines were busy: I'll try again. Any help appreciated.

A:Windows 8.1 I have Dell Optiplex 780. How to connect to HDTV?

Hi TarquinThyroid, and welcome to TSG.

I am unable to find any information on Dell Optimex computers. Do you perhaps have a Dell Optiplex 780 computer?

If so, a simple passive Display Port to HDMI cable will not work for you. That type of cable only works with devices that have a dual mode Display Port (DP++) output. Per the following page on a Dell forum, Optiplex computers do not support DP++ outputs. You would need a powered Display Port to HDMI adapter or active cable to make the conversion.

Do you have a basic passive Display Port to HDMI cable or an active Display Port to HDMI converter cable?

The 9 pin connector on your computer is most likely a serial port. If it is an Optiplex 780, there should also be a 15 pin VGA female connector on the back. That should work with a suitable VGA cable to connect to the VGA port on the TV.

Alright so normally I can fix any pc issue I come across but I have very little knowledge of AIO's
Client called me with a Optiplex 9010 All in one.
When plugged in the light next to power is green.
When you hit the power the power light goes blue and the  light above the power is white for 4 seconds.
Fan starts up for 1 second and nothing else happens. nothing on the screen at all  (normally)
sometimes when you push the power the fan starts for a second then dies then for the next few minutes it trys to start with fan going from 1 second then dead, fan for 2 seconds then dead, fan goes 10 seconds and then dead,  almost like a car engine not getting gas but trying to start up.
Whole time it does this the power light stays blue and the light next to the plug is green.

My guess is a bad capacitor on the mother board or a bad PSU.  This being a AIO I would have to order direct from dell or off ebay.  So would like some more info being putting another $100 into a brick

Hello all,
We just received a shipment of Dell Optiplex 7010s with Core i7 3770s @ 3.10 GHz with 16 gigs of RAM and the Intel HD Graphics 4000 chipset.
I am trying to setup 3 monitors, as I had with the old Optiplex 755s and I am having an issue.  All three monitors are detected in Windows and by the Intel configuration utility.  However, when I enable the 3rd display, one of the 3 displays randomly turns off.  As such, I cannot use the 3rd display.
I have 1 Dell E228WFP hooked up via Display Port to DVI, 1 Dell P170S hooked up via Display Port to DVI, and 1 Dell P170S hooked up via VGA.
Has anyone had any luck getting this working?  I have updated to the latest Intel Graphics driver to no luck.
Appreciate any advice you all could give me.

Hope this helps getting 3 monitors working for you. cheers

Hello everyone! I'm new to the forums. I have a new Dell Optiplex 7040 tower and have connected two monitors to the DP video connections in the back. Yes, I have two separate DVI cables into the adapter. (Second came all the way from China).  I'm getting a signal and picture from the primary monitor but no signal from the second monitor.
I looked at the BIOS settings but saw nothing there.
I'm using Windows 7 OS.
Can someone point me to the right place or command for the desktop to "see" and second monitor?

A:Dell Optiplex 7040 and Dual Monitor

Which form factor, mini-tower, small form or micro?
If you have an add-in video card, do you know if it supports 2 DVI monitors at the same time?
Look in BIOS setup for an "Intel Multi Display" option and Enable it. Manual doesn't show BIOS screens so I don't know if this option actually exists.
Have you gone to the Windows 7 Display settings screen and clicked the Detect button to see if it will detect the second monitor?
Keep in mind if you have an add-in video card, the onboard video ports will be automatically disabled so you can only use the ports on the add-in card (unless there's an Intel Multi Display option in BIOS).
What other ports does the PC have (on the add-in card)? Have you tried using one of those with the second monitor, assuming that monitor supports other inputs, such as VGA, HDMI or DisplayPort?

Hello - I am new to this forum and created an account simply to post these directions on how to get 3 monitors working on a Dell Optiplex 7010. I spent hours and hours trying to get my displays working (spent $750 on 3 Dell P2719H monitors and could only get 2 working at a time)... Hoping that if someone else has this issue that they will be able to use this "guide" to resolve their issue. There is another post on these forums where a guy went through the same steps I went though - and got the monitors working - however, he did not post a link to the "Intel HD Graphics" driver that he used to resolve the issue. I have included the final post he made in the body of this message.

PC = Dell Optiplex 7010 - Windows 10 Enterprise build 1703 (these steps will work with windows 7 as well - I am not sure about windows 8.)
Processor = Intel Core i5-3570S @ 3.10ghz
GPU = Intel HD 2500.
Monitors = Dell P2719H x 3 with 2 connected via Display Port & 1 VGA

If you read the message below from the previous poster - you will see that Dell and Intel both told this guy that there was no way that he could connected 3 monitors simultaneously with the setup mentioned above - however, I can confirm - this DOES work if you install the driver listed in the link below:

You will need to download the .zip file from the link provided above this text for your operating system - MAKE SURE YOU CH... Read more

Hi,First of all - English is not my first language so I`m sorry for grammar mistakes.I have the following problem:When I use a set of dell optiplex 9020 with dell monitor E178WFP they seem to be incompatible - monitor is entering power save mode and computer is not booting up. Exactly not booting - after turning 9020 on even if I change monitors computer is not responding. Everything works fine with other non-dell monitor though, hp monitor for example. Best part is that when turning 9020 on with monitor cable unplugged (which is D-Sub) after windows finishes loading then plugging dell monitor it displays everything fine. Monitor is ok - works fine with dell 7010. Computer is ok - works with hp monitor. Problem appears only with dell 9020 and dell monitor together. Monitor is quite old (2008 year) so I think if there is some compatibility issue of it with new machines. It looks like this monitor is causing that computer cannot run through POST. Computer has only onboard graphics. Tried updating bios with no results. It`s a serious problem for me because I have replaced 8 dell 7010 computers with 9020 and now any of them 'isnt working'. Buying new monitor for every computer would be quite painful. Any advice would be appreciated.

Good evening,

I work for a law firm that uses Dell Optiplex's ranging from 745's to 790's with all inbetween [745, 755, 760, 780, 790]. Our NJ satellite office also has these Dell model ranges, but all of them have Windows XP SP3 installations. These machines generally either have the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Drivers or the ATI Radeon HD 3400 series card/drivers for those models that do not have an available display port. With that said, all machines have dual monitor setups as well.

The issue, put simply: almost a 1/4 of the PC's in our NJ office lose their second monitor on almost a daily basis, where we either have to re-extend the desktop to the other monitor or we have to play the unplug/shutdown/re-plugin game with the display port adaptors.

We're about to run a report containing the following information for the affected machines: OS, BIOS, Video Chipset, Connector Type [VGA2DP, DVI2DP, DP2DP], Power Save Settings. However, I'd like to throw this forum post out there to see if anyone knows any specific Windows XP Pro SP3 issues that exist with utilizing dual monitors on these machine types and/or how to resolve them. Thanks in advance for those who can assist me with any information.

We have had a handful of Dell 7040SFF monitor issues. The user will be in the middle of something-online, email, reading documents and their monitor or monitors will go completely black for about 30 seconds.
Windows 7, 64-bit, 8 GB ram, Intel i5-6500 CPU
I have updated the bios, chipset, and installed the video display drivers and control panel. We have Dell monitor P2014H Flat Panel.
I even went so far to have a user's motherboard replaced. STILL that did not fix the issue.
This investigator with the issue(we are the sheriff's office) figured out the problem...
His 800 MHz police portable radio was the problem. If that radio is less than 4 ft away from the 7040 the monitors do not blank-out. So fortunately that is an easy fix.

Hi everyone,
I have a new hardware:

Dell XPS13 (9360) with Thunderbolt 3
Dell U3417W 34" monitor  (3440x1440 px)

I have prepared everything on my table because I had no idea that new Dell only has Thunderbolt 3 and no mini display port. I was kind of surprised (in a bad way) that I will need another reduction.
The problem is that I can only input display port, mini display port and HDMI into the new Dell U3417W monitor. I am not sure how much resolution I can squeeze from HDMI, so what is left are those display ports.
Should I buy USB-C -> Display port cable like for e.g. Startech USB Type-C to Displayport cable, 1m (CDP2DPMM1MB) which could possibly do the job? Or perhaps even some Thunderbolt 3 cable?
I need to have 3440x1440 px @ 60 Hz where some of those cables support only @30 Hz and they do not explicitly state that 3440x1440px resolution is supported.
I would rather avoid those bugged Dell docking stations where the whole internet (e.g. Amazon) is snowed by users complaints.
Thanks in advance for any help!

check the cables internally and that you have not knocked anything by mistake as you added the harddrive

Also when you put the VGA cable back onto the PC - check to see if any pins are bent - very easy to bend a pin on those connectors and still connect and screw up

We got two new Dell XPS 13 for users and there does not seem to be any video out ports like on previous models.  This runs Windows 10 Professional and has an internal screen resolution of 1920x1080.  Looks like there is 2 USB 3.0 super speed ports and possibly a (thunderbolt)??? port?
I've heard of USB-C so I'm not sure if this one port on the left side is that, or if its thunderbolt.  I googled thunderbolt to hdmi adapter and in all the images I find it always shows a mini display port on one end despite the descriptions saying thunderbolt.

So whats the cheapest way to get HDMI out on this laptop?

The Thunderbolt( USB Type C port) on the Left Hand side deals with the video output on the system. You will need to purchase a USB Type C to HDMI adapter to display video.

I bought a Dell P2014H monitor, which came with display port, VGA and DVI-D slots and cables? My HP Envy only appears to have a HDMI and USB slots. Is there an adapter to hook these 2 together?

Hi - I currently have a Dell OptiPlex™ GX270 to which I would like to connect an HP monitor. The monitor has a VGA cable, a DVI cable and an audio cable (and obviously a power cable). The Dell has VGA input, and, as far as I can tell not DVI. Do I need to be able to connect DVI in order to use this monitor? Also, monitor has built-in speakers. I am assuming the audio cable for that would go into the same input that I currently use for my free standing speakers. The monitor has that Bright View Technology which looks quite nice. My system has 512 ram, Intel Pentium 2.4 GHz processor and plenty of hard disk space. Bottom line - is this pc up to the task of this monitor connection? Even though this Dell is sort of old, it still runs fine and I see no need to dump it at this juncture - especially since any new pc's only come with Win7. I like xp. Anyway, any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone. Now I meet a question that my P50 can't connect to the DELL 1901FP monitor as an external display through the Thunderbolt, but it can connect to others monitor. When the computer and the monitor connected, I can hear the sound that windows find the new hardware, but the monitor display nothing. I don't know what's the problem. Is the monitor too old to be support by the P50. The system in P50 is WINDOW10 PRO EN. Thank you for your help. Any help will be appriciated.

I just moved into a new apartment with a roommate who already has a modem with internet connected to their desktop. I had been using wifi and ethernet at my old place on my current laptop. I'm trying to get my laptop working with this new setup but it keeps saying No Internet and No network access.

Windows 10 Home updated over a Windows 7 factory install
Processor AMD A6-6310 APU with AMD Radeon R4 Graphics
1.80 GHz
Dell Laptop 2014
8.00 GB of RAM
64 bit OS x64-based processor

SURFboard Modem 200 Series
Model SB6121
Motorola Arris

I already tried to use the cable my roommate is using and the other ports on the modem, but while they work for my roommate, they don't work for me.
In the Adapter Settings-Properties I've tried installing Reliable Multicast Protocol with no change.
I've gone into Command Prompt (Admin) and done a netsh int ipv4 install with no change, as well.

I'm not and advanced techie, but I would say I'm more knowledgeable than many. I feel like the information under the adapter settings are set to what I had at my old place and aren't changing for this new one (if that makes sense?) so I feel like we need to do something with adapter settings, I just don't know what.
Please help me.
