I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I Just downgraded my computer from windows 10 to windows 8.1 and when i go to device manager it says microsoft basic display adapter but my computer's graphics card name is Ati Mobillity Radeon x1300. Can Someone please give me a Ati mobillity radeon x1300 driver download for windows 8.1? Thanks!

A:Device Manager Saying "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter"

Doubt you will find a 8.1 or 10 driver for a display chip that old.

EDIT: You can try Vista or 7 drivers in compatibility mode as described here: Radeon x1300 and windows 8 - Microsoft Community

I have a Lenovo Yoga 900. A while back, my younger brother threw my computer and cracked the screen, so I disable to touch display adapter in device manager so the screen would stop flipping out. In addition to the screen breaking, I have had a lot of problems with the display adapter since. Currently, I have the Intel Iris Graphics 540 display adapter installed but disabled (its the one the system wants me to have) and have Microsoft Basic Display Adapter being used. Whenever I enable the Intel Iris Graphics display adapter, the screen stops working and will go black (the computer is still running and everything else works, like I can plug an external display in and it will work with the Intel display adapter enabled). I have updated and reinstalled the display adapter multiple times (through windows update, Lenovos website, and Intel's website too) but it still has the same problem regardless. My computer works when using the microsoft display adapter, except nothing works as well as it used to. For example with the microsoft basic display adapter, I am unable to change the screen brightness from full brightness (I have tried fixing this multiple times to no avail), the computer can't detect an external display, and the frame rate is awful. For videos it will do okay, but any sort of game is so bad that you are unable to play it. I have spent a lot of time already trying to fix this but have no clue how to, any suggestions would be great, thanks!

I just reformat the laptop of my friend. But he don't have any cd for the drivers. I manually searched the net and install one by one of his drivers.

His laptop is quite a bit old. (Thinkpad x31) Now the problem is that when I try to install the display driver (ATI) It won't let me install. It gives me a message saying something about "Install Standard VGA". I don't have a clue on what to do next. I tried to search for the display driver in Device Manager, but its not even there. I really need to fix this one, because it really hurts in the eyes every time we scroll, the image in the monitor kinda wave (slow mo effect). Help me please.

I think I need this driver here.

I'm having a really annoying issue where the only working driver I can use is the "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter". Every single other driver I have tried will all cause me to experience BSOD and the error message "Display Driver Has Stopped Responding". The issue appeared a month ago and it has took me up until yesterday to single it down to be a driver issue and not some kind of hardware fault.

My graphics card is a Sapphire R9 280x and so I use AMD Catalyst Drivers. The issue first came about when updating to 15.7.1 back when I was on Windows 7. I updated to Windows 10 to see if this would resolve my error but it still persisted exactly as it did before. So far I have tried using 15.7, 15.7.1, 15.8 beta and I have even tried just using the driver that Windows will install for my graphics card and all of these cause the errors I mentioned before. Using the basic driver allows me to watch videos and browse the internet fine however games are unplayable as the FPS is between 1-10 when usually it would be 60-120.

I am desperate to find a solution to this as I am just starting university tomorrow and I really miss being able to play games with my friends.

Any suggestions will be welcomed as I am willing to try anything at this point.

Hi.I have Lenovo Y400 with Windows 10 updage, since I've been upgraded from Windows 7. Currently I have problems with external usb 3.0 hdd because of lack of Intel chipset drivers for C216 chipset Intel HM76 motherboard. External usb hdd occasionally fails to be regonized by system and doesn't work until I uplug it and plut it again.According to Intel's community they don't support this motherboard as it is shipped as OEM for laptop manufacturers, so I'm asking my question here. Is Lenovo Y400 model already obsolete and we won't get Windows 10 upgrade with drivers ugraded?

I have an old noname custom-built laptop which has the following hardware:

Intel 855 mobile chipset (the desktop equivalent is 865, socket 478)
Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz socket 478 CPU
Intel 855G graphics adaptor
Realtek AC'97 audio

Since the graphics card is too old, I cannot install Intel's XP drivers. If I do, after next reboot they are considered outdated and they always change to Standard VGA Graphics Adapter, which of course supports no Aero and no 3D.

After trying many registry tricks to enable aero without success, I gave up. All these tricks need a WDDM graphics driver and they are meant to enable aero in Windows Vista Home Basic WITH an WDDM driver installed. Since I used Standard VGA Graphics Adapter none would work. The same would be true if I could install latest Windows XP drivers, but then I would at least have some DirectX functionality.

When Windows 8 Developer Preview was released, I tested it in a similarly old laptop which had no WDDM drivers for its old ATI graphics card. But Windows 8 install Microsoft Basic Display Adapter instead of Standard VGA graphics adapter, which IS WDDM! Then I tried to copy all the relevant files (INF and DLLs) for the driver from Windows 8 in order to install it in Windows 7. Unfortunatelly installation fails, as it tries to install a service and cannot do that for some reason Anyone else that managed to use the Microsoft Basic Display Adaptor driver in Windows 7 or has seen anything relevant on the Internet... You need to install the display drivers manually, depends on your manufacture, download the right display drivers, and they will automatically show up in device manager.
If ATI is compatible with ur computer you can get the drivers here: Ati drivers: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Hey guys, I have nc6400, with ati mobility radeon x1300 and 6 hours ago I've installed win 8.First I wanted to encounter graphics card problem. It doesn't recognize card, it just says Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. I tried updating it with Browse and let me pick option, but without any success. Even tried what this guy recommended, but without luck.

"I had this problem with a Mobility Radeon X1300. My solution was to use a tool called mobility modder.net. I found the most recent version of Catalyst that supported my card and put that setup file and the mobility modder.net setup file on a flash drive. I then went to a different computer that wasn't running Windows 8 and ran the Catalyst setup file, but after the part where it extracts its files I clicked cancel. Then I installed mobility modder.net and navigated to C:\ATI\Support\(your version of catalyst)\Driver and clicked mod. When the tool finished I cut and pasted the entire C:\ATI directory and put it on my flash drive and took it back to my computer that was running Windows 8. I then cut and pasted the ATI directory to the root of that computer's hard drive. I then opened up that directory until I got to the setup.exe file and I ran it and it installed perfectly. When it was done it was running the driver and Catalyst Control Center perfectly."

When I go to screen resolution options, I can only see Generic Non-pnp Monitor and resolution option (which I can't change): 1024x768

Just threw the consumer preview of windows 8 on an old desktop that was previously running 7, and now I can't get it to recognize my graphics card. It's just an integrated AMD chip, the Radeon X200. I found a copy of the legacy drivers for vista online and ran the installer in compatibility mode, but it won't install the drivers because windows will not pick up the card at all and this microsoft basic display adapter is all that shows up in device manager for display adapters. If need be I have a radeon x1650 pro PCIe card I can install, but would prefer to just get the integrated X200 chip working properly if possible. Right now the resolution is awful and anything that requires even the slightest bit of hardware acceleration runs like a dog. How can I fix this problem?

Also this is a full install, not a virtual machine. Just ran the upgrade from 7 ultimate, didn't wipe and do a clean install.

Hi! The Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2017/2:nd edition has an OLED panel option. Lenovo's download page for this model, https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/hk/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-... , offers a driver "Intel "OLED Panel Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad X1 Yoga (Type: 20JD, 20JE, 20JF, 20JG)",, 2017/10/02, in the Display and Video Graphics section. In Windows, the device appears as "Intel(R) OLED Panel Driver" under "System devices" in the Windows Device Manager. Normally I'd think all needed to drive a display is the graphics driver (e.g. "Intel(R) HD Graphics 620" under "Display adapters") and a monitor file for resolution, frequency and color calibration ("OLED Display 2560x1440" under "Monitors"). So, why do we need an "Intel(R) OLED Panel Driver", and what does this device actually do?

Dear Eightforum users,
I've got a serious issue with my screen resolution on win8 (asus k53d). Actually this annoying problem has been living with me since two years.

The problem is that what ever I do, I can't install display driver (even Microsoft basic driver) and the screen resolution is always fixed on 1024*786.

I've tried the following steps:

Installing the appropriate win 8 display driver form Asus support > Doesn't work after installation and restarting the windows

Updating the driver from the device manager > Doesn't work after installing an restarting.

In fact the windows cant recognize the Microsoft basic driver and Intel HD 3000 as there is always a yellow danger sign there.
I would really appreciate your help
Can I solve it? or the issue is related to hardware?

You may need to use drivers from Dell, if they've customized the device ID of the graphics adapter.

Unfortunately, the latest drivers offered at support.dell.com are for Vista. They may be worth a try. (Win8 is supposed to be able to use WDDM 1.0 drivers.) Try the installation troubleshooting compatibility mode if they won't install by themselves.

However, when i hook up an external display, such as HDMI to my TV, then it is able to upgrade the driver successfully. But, as soon as i remove the external display, the laptop shuts off immidiately and doesnt turn on. The next step is to revert back to the basic display driver to continue using the laptop. Have to go back to safe mode and rollback to previous driver. The reason why i need to update my display driver is because the brightness is stuck on full.  Also 6 months ago i had to replace my screen because it cracked, but it was working fine with no issue for several months. Suddenly the issues just started occuring. Any suggestions on whats wrong or cwhat i can do to solve this issue, much appriciated!

A:VGA adapter missing in Device Manager

Hi thenerrus,

If you have a display on your laptop, the VGA is working. I seriously doubt you have two different video cards in that lap because they're not usually built that way, unless you had another on installed. The information you provided says you have an Nvidia card as your video adapter, trying to install the Intel drivers and having them fail also says you only have an Nvidia adapter installed.

So, unless you installed another video card or unsure what card you have installed in the laptop, I would suggest you look up your systems specs from the notebook manufacture and see what card is installed on the machine.

Good luck.

Hi all,

The "Display adapter" option is missing from my Device Manager. I did
re-install the OEM driver but it didn't help. I am mystified as to how to get it
to show up. I would like to install a new video card and I suspect I must
first resolve this software problem (already tried the card with no luck).

I had made some tweaks to WinXP some months ago in an effort to optimize it.
I don't remember what I did but I suspect that might have something to do
with it. I have looked through Microsoft and HP/Compaq support sites with
no luck. Any info I found seems to talk about using the Display Adapter to
make changes, not how to revive it.

My stock video drivers are loaded and working. Again, I just don't know how
to get Display Adapter to re-appear (and working) in Device Manager.

I ran a diagnostic app called AIDA32. Here are screen grabs of my:

* Windows Devices
* Physical Devices
* Device Resources
* Windows Video

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fix this issue? Any and all
suggestions are appreciated.

* System: Compaq Presario SR1030NX
* Processor: AMD Athlon XP 3000+
* Processor Speed: 2166 MHz

Hi all!

This is my first time posting here, and I tried to look through some of the past threads but none of them were quite like the problem I've been having. Here are the specs for my laptop which was purchased just earlier this month, first off:

Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 8, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3630QM CPU @ 2.40GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 58 Stepping 9
Processor Count: 8
RAM: 8139 Mb
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M, -2048 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 905399 MB, Free - 728285 MB; D: Total - 25599 MB, Free - 23141 MB;
Motherboard: LENOVO, INVALID
Antivirus: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2013, Updated and Enabled

The problem I've been having is this: Lately, for the past 2-3 days or so, my wifi adapter would suddenly die-- meaning I can't connect to my home router or anyone else's, and when I try to use Windows' "Troubleshoot problems" feature, it would always get stuck at either "looking for problems with connectivity" or "resetting your wifi adapter". When I try to go into the advance settings to manually disable/enable my wifi adapter for myself, it would never actually work. When I try to click on the icon in the system tray, nothing would happen and it wouldn't pop up with the list of available networks like usual.

At this point, the only thing I can do is restart or shut down my laptop, but sometimes even that doesn't go throu... Read more

Running Windows 8.1 Preview x64. I was attempting to update my graphics drivers on my Vaio SE2C5E using those provided here. Things were already a bit messed up before hand, with the switchable graphics ability randomly disappearing one day. Thinking that I was uninstalling the existing drivers I ran a now unsupported tool available on that site, apparently this was not the case and I honestly don't know what running that program did. At this point I thought I would just try to uninstall the card from device manager and start from there reinstalling. It seems however that I uninstalled the standard included windows graphics driver, so my card now only says 'Microsoft Basic Display Driver'. Catalyst install manager does not recognize the card anymore so won't install the driver. No options within device manager allow me to upgrade to a proper driver. No switchable functionality. The computer is useable at least.

Below is the output from a small program called chat_noir, used on the previously linked leshcatlabs website to help trouble shoot. Any help would be appreciated.

Catalyst Driver Version: 13.6 Beta 2 UnifL
Name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000
Chipset manufacturer: Intel Corporation

Driver version:

Status: OK
Name: Microsoft Basic Display Adapter
Chipset manufacturer: (Standard display types)

From that writeup, it appears you have Hybrid AMD/Intel graphics -- and in that case, you should go only to the Sony site to get the drivers, as drivers from AMD or Intel are likely NOT to work.

 how to fix a uninstalled display adapter from device manager when the screen is black.

Hi, I've been trying to figure out how to fix this for about two days now.

I've uninstalled everything AMD/ATI (multiple times) and tried to reinstall my graphics driver using AMD Catalyst. It always says that my computer "does not contain a proper graphics adapter." I've used Driver Sweeper to get rid of remnants, I'm in safemode right now because suddenly I couldn't get into normal mode (where I'd only be able to use VGA, everything for my adapter was put as "unavailable" when I checked under advanced for display properties). After the startup screen it went black but I could still see my cursor and move it around, it might of worked if I waited a bit longer but the length seemed odd so I rebooted into safemode.

At first I couldn't even get into normal mode, it would just be black + without cursor until I uninstalled my driver from device manager, but now I can't get the display adapters to show up again.

I've read a couple things about bios and something called pci but I'm not sure how either of those work (or what they are)? I'm not super great at computers.

my power flickered off and on really quick and when my pc came back up, the internet would not work. after investigating i found out that the network adapter is missing from the device manager. i have tried to re-download drivers for my network adapter/mobo and this has not solved my problem. i have also set my pc back to a date in the past and it didnt work either. i do not know what else it could be other than my on board network card is faulty. ty.

It sounds like the power problem tweaked your board a bit.

Have you tried clearing the cmos on the board?

Make sure you write down all the important bios settings before you clear the cmos and put them back to how it was before. If you built your own machine this should be fairly easy for you.
