I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Try resetting your router and then check if it still causes the same issue.

Hello,

I am running two systems, both running Windows XP Professional. They are connected to a DLink DI-604 router.

They can both access the web at the same time. The DHCP gave them proper private addresses.

The problem is I cannot ping past the router from either system. This is a problem because I wanted to share files on one of the systems to the other.

Basically my music is on one computer, and I want to transfer it all to the other. I cannot connect to it, please help me set up this transfer please. Thanks.

I've got a Windows NT domain with several remote sites. These sites used to be connected via dedicated BT Kilostream lines using Cisco routers. I'm sure only IP was routed, no other protocols. We recently switched to a manged VPN provided by BT (British Telecom) and since then we have a problem with local shares at remote sites. The remote sites do not have windows servers, just anything from 2 to 5 windows XP or 2000 clients. These clients can see the shares on servers at the main site, but if they share a resource locally, be it a printer or a folder, it can't be seen. The routing is all fine as these machines can ping each other without problem. If for example I create a share locally on a client called remote_1, if I then try to do "net view \\remote_1" I'll get back

System error 5 has occurred.

Access is denied.

The remote machines logon to the domain fine, as they are running a batch file as part of login, and setting the correct time.

Any thoughts or help much appreciated.

I installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on my computer shortly after it was released, and switched over to using it as my main operating system just under a month ago. I have had no problems with it at all until now.

My motherboard is an ASUS P5N-MX and I recently noticed that while I have 4Gb of RAM in my system, it was only showing 3400 ish Mb as usable. To fix this, I updated the BIOS about 3 days ago to the latest version and now all 4096Mb are usable. Booting into Windows, everything worked fine. I mention this as I am unsure if this may have caused my problem.

Yesterday, all of a sudden, my network lost connection. I have a wired LAN to a router to access the internet, however my PC also has a wireless card and the router is wireless also. Windows shows it as 'unknown network' and says it is 'identifying', however it simply sticks like this and I am unable to connect. Enabling my wireless card and connecting that way produces the same result. The problem is not the router as my housemates two computers can access it fine and connect to the internet with no problems.

In addition to Windows 7, I have my PC set up to dual boot Kubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala). Kubuntu is also able to connect to the network with no problems whatsoever and access the Internet, leading me to believe it is a Windows problem and not hardware-related.

Thus far I have tried using windows own diagnostic tools (unable to solve the problem), disabling/re-enabling the adapter, changing from ... Read more

Installed the latest windows 10 update. This seems to have fixed the problem of other devices on the network not showing up in file explorer. But now when I start a program that needs to access a folder on a network drive. The program gets an error saying that it can't see the folder. But if I go to file explorer and open that folder the files are there. Later if I try to run the program again it works.

For the last six years I've been running the same powershell scripts with no problems. Today I tried to run one of the scripts and got the following message.
Security warning
Run only scripts that you trust. While scripts from the internet can be useful, this script can potentially harm your computer. If
you trust this script, use the Unblock-File cmdlet to allow the script to run without this warning message. Do you want to run

I never got this message in the past even on windows 10. So I tried to use the UnBlock-File. This did nothing. Tried to use file properties and unblock. No unblock under file properties. Why does the system think my NAS is not on the local network?

Also since the latest update one NAS system will not show up in file explorer. I can ping by ip address but not by name.
The NAS shows up under storage but not under computers.

Thanks
RAC

Every time I start up my computer (Windows 7), it tells me the internet is not active.

I look at the network-interface and see that my computer has made a public network, something I have never wanted. The following has become sort of a routine for me:

> I remove the public network.
> Then I click on "Solve problems" in the small tab on the desktop.
> It will then make a home-network.

The internet works after these small steps, but once I start the computer up again, it's back to square one. This proves to be a very annoying thing once you have to do this every single time.

I also noticed that my internet has become much more unstable, sometimes completely freezing in network activity. I then remove the home-network and click on "solve problems" to continue the connection.

Could someone tell me where it went wrong, in terms of configuring the network?

Check the power management tab in the network interface cards properties, make sure it isn't going to sleep to save power, uncheck box... In the ipv4 properties advanced settings, make sure the router address is showing in the default gateway, and you can try unchecking Automatic Metric and insert a value of 1

When playing online games or downloading files, the computer will suddenly either drop connection or lag incredibly. When playing Team Fortress 2 with the netgraph on, it was found that during these lag spikes, a HUGE amount of information was transferred for an unknown reason. The computer has been checked multiple times for viruses and spyware, and seems to be clean of both. I'm now at a loss as to what could be causing the problem. Please help.

First off, I jsut wanted to say Hi, never been to this forum before. I installed the sp2 update from microsoft. About half way through the installation, it gave an error and then froze. From that point on, my computer never really acted the same.

Now it seems to be completely trashed...it is really slow moving around, I am able to access all my files and stuff, but there is no network connection whatsoever. I checked in the device manager and it does show the network card there and installed correct.

Like I said earlier, everything was normal b4 the sp2. I take well care of this cpu, Norton, spybot, ad-aware...make sure thre is no "crap" on it.

Sorry if this has been discused already on thsi forum. PLease let me know if anyone has any suggestions....thanks in advance

Hello. I've spent hours trying to solve this but I've given up and chose to ask for help instead.
So I've just installed windows xp 32 bit sp3 on my other computer. It installed fine but there are some drivers missing.
Because the ethernet drivers are missing I cannot access the internet so I've been using this computer to find the driver files and pass them to the other computer via a usb stick.
After many tries I finally managed to download the VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter and I checked my device manager and the yellow exclamation mark that was next to it was gone.
But I still cannot connect to the internet. More specifically, I tried running the BT infinity broadband CD that came with the package to connect to the internet but it says I cannot connect to the Hub.
So I went back to the device manager and noticed some more yellow exclamation marks. There was one on "other devices", and when I clicked on that I was one on "Ethernet Controller", "Multimedia Audio Controller" and "RAID Controller". I assume I can't connect to the internet because I'm missing the Ethernet controller. Is this true? Could it be because of this?
I'm not sure which hardware information you need but the computer has got an AMD Duron processor.
The motherboard is ASROCK K7Upgrade-600(socket-a).

Could someone please find the correct driver? I've tried about 3 different links and none worked.

A:windows xp network driver problem

If the computer is a brand-name model (eg Packard Bell, Acer, etc) you need to download the correct drivers from that computer manufacturer's website.

If it's a self-built or custom-built computer with no brand-name, you need to download the correct drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's website, which in your case is ASRock: ASRock > Support

Hey,

I have recently (After yesterday's Windows Update) gotten a weird problem

As I log in normally to my computer, the Network Sharing Center doesnt respond, nor does the icon down in the taskbar. I have tried the solutions you can find by googling to fix this - none helped.

That is not everything, every application that wants to use internet connection freezes as they try to do so.

I got it fixed temporarily by using the System Restore to restore the system to the point before the Windows Updates were applied, but that is not an option anymore, because the restore point is no longer there.

Windows does not let me uninstall updates in Safe Mode, and as Windows Update accesses internet to do so - it too freezes during a normal login.

Any suggestions?

Does the wireless connect to the local LAN or both the wired and wireless doesn't see the local? Does the Wireless Router see the laptop? You should start there, since you can get on the network.

click start, click run type: cmd, then do netstat -arp and see if the default gateway shows-up, then do a ipconfig /all

Make sure anything is connecting to the the DHCP, if not then there is a problem on the router end. Also I would also remove the drivers for both wired and wireless and then reboot the PC. Then when you login to Windows it will detect both Ethernet Controller and install the drivers you need.

The computer will try and acquire an ip address and can't. It doesn't give me an error or anything, just sits there and acquires until I stop it.

I tried assigning it a static IP but it still won't connect to the internet. I have tried the Winsock Repair utility and a Windows Repair. Still not luck... I feel like something is corrupted in Windows and I'm trying to avoid a fresh install.

When I type ipconfig at the CMD prompt, I receive a message:

The first part is ok. I have typed the name correctly, and I do have permissions. The last part is strange. My computer is connected to the network (hence this post through my browser), and the ftp computer I am connecting to is connected to the network (have tested by alternate means.)

Anybody understand what this error means? Is it something to do with mapping a network drive? Any ideas to get my ftp up and going again, and if not any suggestions for a simple (and free) windows FTP client I should use?

I have a new Windows 7 PC on my network. All the other PCs on the network are Windows XP.

I have created the network as a "Work" network (not a home network)., In the Advanced Sharing Settings for the Work network, "Turn on network discovery" is checked. "Turn on file and printer sharing" is checked, "Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the public folders" is checked and "Turn off password protected sharing" is checked.

Here's my problem:

I created a share for a drive on the Windows 7 PC. Now the Windows XP machines can see the drive and the entire list of folders on the drive, but when I click on any folder, I get a popup that says

" [Folder Name] is not accessible. Access is denied. "

I have checked the double-checked the settings. Everyone has full control, and the XP machines can see the entire folder tree, but access to individual files and folders is denied.

I thought permissions from the root were supposed to be automatically inherited. What's wrong?

Thanks very much for any information.

I have a network set up in my student house such that my computer gets an external IP (I need one for serving purposes), and all others are behind a router, ethernet & wireless.

Here's my setup:
-Cable Modem out to standard 5-port switch.
-Port 1 of switch into my network card #1
-Port 2 of switch into wireless Linksys router.
-Router connects to all other household computers, including one port back into my computer, network card #2.

So yah, I have two network cards installed so that I can keep the external IP for internet on one of them, yet still be a member of the internal LAN behind the router.

My problems are plain old erratic. My computer sees the rest of the machines pretty well and can usually access all of their files although it's rather slow. However none of the other machines can see mine. Actually they can see my computer, but they usually can't access it.

All machines are running WinXP (varying between Home & Professional). They all have shares, we are all members of the same workgroup and file sharing is activated on all. As I said, some of them can see my computer at times, so at least something is right...but they can't access my shares. One or two machines still can't even see me at all.

Hopefully someone can suggest a place to look here. Right now I'm not sure whether it's a Windows setting problem, or if there is a router setting I should fiddle with. I don't see why it would be the router though, sinc... Read more

A:windows 8 network problem on alienware 17

There are many drivers listed on the Dell downloads for the Alienware 17 model, for Win 8. Did you install all the Dell supplied drivers including all the chipset drivers and network drivers? If not, that is the first step. Win 8 will install some drivers but not all will be compatible or 100% compatible. Installing the correct Dell drivers is best. Product Support for Alienware 17 | Dell US

Dell also has a special Alienware support section on their Community forums. If installing the Dell drivers does not help, it would be best to seek help there, since its specific for Alienware owners. Alienware Club - Dell Community

Internet was working just fine until today, I run troubleshoot and it says: Windows could not find a driver for your network adapter. I downloaded Intel's PROwin32 driver, during installation it comes to a point where I get this message: Cannot instal drivers. No Itenl(R) Adapters are present in this computer. I cannot scan my computer online as I have no internet connection on it. I saw many people had similar problem but either I am rather stupid or none of their solution quite worked for me.

A:New windows install/ network problem

Sounds like missing drivers. The exact make/model of the computer and/or motherboard would be useful here. Also, any add-on network adapter make/model info.

Did you install the chipset drivers after the XP install?

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.
Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?

Hello all

I hope I put this in the right place.

ok I had cable hooked up a month ago and the first couple of days I was flying. Now I swear that dial up was faster then this.

I called tech support and they asked me to open my network connections folder and click on the LAN or high speed interent connection. The connection won't open. Nothing happens when I click on it.

Tech support told me that I needed to have it reparied but couldn't tell me what needed to be repaired.

I figured I was better off coming in here first.

Any help would be great!

Thank You

Ang

In the network connections window. Right click on the connection and then select repair. Windows will then run its repair algorithm on the connection.

Hi,

This is my first post so please go easy on me but I really hope someone on here will be able to help with my problem. I have a wired router that connects to the phone line and into this I have plugged in a wireless router that I have inherited. The wireless router can only receive a cable input (i.e. not from the phone line) so this is the reason I have this weird router configuration.

Anyway, I have two computers that I want to connect to the internet using the wireless router, one runs xp and the other windows 7 starter. Now in order to get both these computers to connect to the internet I need to boot them up and then restart them before they will connect. I'm guessing it is something to do with the weird configuration of the routers and it's not as if I'm unable to connect to the internet at all, but if anyone can suggest a fix so that I don't have to restart my computers before being able to get online it would be much appreciated!

My wireless home network has two computers. The windows 98se machine is the host and the other machine runs XP. The connection to the internet works fine. But trying to access files on one machine to the other is not working. I've been told by one tech support person that 98 computers cannot communicate with xp machines. Does anyone know of this limitation?

Are you able to provide a screenshot of where you are entering your IPv4 address stack? Also how are you verifying the address? Please follow this tutorial and upload your ipconfig /all - Network Posting Tips

This can help us determine your problem as well as show you if your static address has been applied

Many Thanks,

Hi TSG's,

I am having trouble connecting my two PC's running Windows 7 (Ultimate) 64bit.

My main PC which I call OFFICE is connected by cable to my Netgear N600 wireless router and I have setup a Homegroup called STILLWATER

My second PC is called STUDIO is also connected by cable to the same router.

Both machines have internet access but I cannot get them to connect to each other on the network. When I try to get the STUDIO machine to join the STILLWATER homegroup it asks for a password which I do not have. When I look for the password on the OFFICE machine the password box is empty but filled yellow with the cursor in the middle, I don't think there are any hidden characters in there because I cannot copy or print from the box. If I try to change the password I get an error message which reads "Windows cannot set up a Homegroup on this computer". So now I am confused because I thought the Homegroup was on this computer or could it be on the Router?

I don't really know much about Network configuration and find it all very confusing, I would just like to start again and get both of these computers connected on a home network and would really appreciate some guidance.

I would also like to connect my laptop running Vista to the same network but am not sure if that is possible.

Thanks in advance to anyone and everyone that replies to this posting!

A friend of mine has a network in his office and has a couple of computers with wired connections through a switch. He also has a wireless router that is connected to the switch as well -- providing wireless connectivity to 3 laptops.

He set up a network through Windows (they are all XP) and when the laptops are wired into the network, they "can see" every other computer just fine. When any of the laptops go wireless, they cannot see one particular computer in the network.

I'm at a loss as to why this is happening because the wireless laptops can see each other -- and wired computers on the network just fine -- except for this one particular desktop.

Any clues/ideas as to why this may be happening? Thanks for your reply!!

We're using Window Server 2003 as a domain controller (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP) and Windows XP as clients. It is a small network of only about 5 computers (+1 server) so it used to work fine without much problem.

The problem is that my computer (a win xp client) is now having problem accessing folders on the other computers. I am being asked a user name and password everytime I want to access these folders. Strangely, if I simply put my name and password, windows will tell me that it's tried this name-password combination, and it doesnt work. I had to type in the full network address as a prefix to my name (eg: xyz.abc.com\my_name) for it to even have the chance to work.
Even after I entered my name in the above format, accessing the folder will take about 1-2 minutes before it will even display the content of the folder. And then it will not show the right click menu (looks like it hangs, but it will eventually go back to initial state, but still cant right click).

If I ping the server or these computers using DOS, it will return my pin.

I have several possible source of the problem:

1. A couple of month ago my hard disk broke. We had to install a new hard disk and windows xp. I copied my documents (Favorites, Documents, Desktop, Outlook) to the new installation, and renamed the computer to something else.
The problem started around the same time

2. I'm using 2 network card in my computer:
- 1 is connected to the domain
- the other 1 is connected t... Read more

When you renamed your computer, you probably neglected to fix the permissions on the server.

When I try to connect to a Windows 2000 computer (SERVER) over my network from my Windows 7 computer (LAUREL-PC), I have an issue in that a dialog box comes up called Enter Network Password, and when I do enter the password and username for my windows 2000 computer into the dialog box, it doesn't work, and it says incorrect username or password!

I think it has to do something with the fact that when I try and login, it shows the username as

LAUREL-PC\Connor

when it should probably be

SERVER\Connor

because I am logging in with the username from the computer called SERVER, not LAUREL-PC! There isn't even an account called Connor on LAUREL-PC.

How do i make it change the domain or computer name to SERVER when I am logging on, or is there some other problem. I tried to make it so that you don't have to enter a network password to access shares on my SERVER computer, but that didn't work. Is there anyway to disable this dialog box?

Thanks!!!

PLEASE REPLY .
