Filter errors in setting DSCP to UDP packets using Windows Traffic Control API

Q: Filter errors in setting DSCP to UDP packets using Windows Traffic Control API

I am using the following code to add filter to Traffic Control API that has a DSCP flow on 46 (EF)

This code uses the TcAddFilter function with TC_GEN_FILTER structure in order to add such a filter.
TC_GEN_FILTER filter;
IP_PATTERN pattern{};
IP_PATTERN mask{};

filter.AddressType = NDIS_PROTOCOL_ID_TCP_IP;
filter.Pattern = &pattern;
filter.Mask = &mask;
filter.PatternSize = sizeof(IP_PATTERN);

pattern.ProtocolId = 17; //Means UDP
pattern.DstAddr = destination.GetSystemReadableIP();
pattern.tcDstPort = 0

mask.ProtocolId = UCHAR_MAX;
mask.DstAddr = ULONG_MAX;
mask.tcDstPort = 0;

HANDLE filter_handle;
auto err = TcAddFilter(flow->handle, &filter, &filter_handle);

It returns zero which means no errors and using Wireshark I can see that the RTCP packets (which are based on UDP) have DSCP values set on 46 (EF) but UDP packets with raw data have no DSCP. When I close my app, the RTCP packets also go back to zero
DSCP which means no other process handles this value assignment.

But if I use Group Policy Editor, I am able to assign 46 to both RTCP and UDP packets.

Please tell me what is wrong with my code?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sup? 1st Time Techyguy.org User Long-Time PC Abuser,

Got my gf a Dell XPS17, being a long time user of XP (It will die a legend) I am not fond of "new advances" as they can sometimes create more holes than they fill. One big reason I am already not a fan of Windows 7 is because while some things have improved other things have gotten worse. By far this is the worst problem:

In XP my Duration online can be 1-2 days for example and would barely hit a million or a million and a half of packets for sent and outgoing individually. With the Same exact setup in Windows 7 what takes days in XP I experience in about 1 Hour in Windows 7! As of right now there is over 19million outgoing packets! Similar for received and I had just repaired/refreshed the settings! What gives?? I have searched online and came up pretty dry on this. I am hoping i'm not the only one with this issue on the machine.

Before you suggest it, I'm not a n00b but I could have overlooked somethings, I have already ran a Spybot Search & Destroy Scan and a Windows Security Essentials Scan to no avail. I'm fairly certain the system is clean.

By the way it has an Intel 1000BGN Internal Adapter but I have it disabled and am using an Alfa AWUS036h b/g adapter. The router is a Netgear N300 WNR2000v2. It is experiencing very low speeds 1-5.5 and usually a stable 11mbps. I believe this network traffic is causing both the low speeds and random but frequent limited access / disconnections.

Hi all,
First of all let me say its nice to be back on the forums. From next week I am going to make myself come here daily, otherwise I'll never find time for it!.

Secondly, I have a question to ask which has had me scratching my head for a while - Probably because im trying to do the impossible or something like normal!

My network: (There is reason for this)

Modem
\/
Main web server
\/
File/domain/web servers
\/
User Work Stations.

I have to run a web filter to filter out R rated, and some individual sites for the workstations. The main web server is obviously the gateway along with ICS, so I run trustport webfilter proxy on that machine to filter the net!.. the only thing is, I have IIS running on the same machine, on port 80. So i have set the proxy to another port - and configured IE on the workstations, however of course, the bypass is just to set IE back to default.

Can anyone pleas give me any hints as to what I should do to stop users being able to do this? I have tried various things, but am not going to mention them as it will only make things more confusing.

Currently running just windows firewall.

Any advise is much appreciated, thanks.

A:Solved: Filter out local Internet packets?

Posted via Mobile Device
got a few ideas.
set up a firewall rule on the web server gateway or the main router that only allows port 80 traffic from the proxys ip address. you could do this with an ipsec policy as well.

setup group policy so that they cannot access IE settings.

as a secondary filter use OpenDns for you external dns servers and turn on all the filtering they have.

Hi all, my first post on the forums so I apologise if I have placed it in the wrong section.

My current situation is I wish to set-up all our IT Suite Computers to allow staff to login to their outlook for our head office/Company Emails. now our head office uses OpenVPN to allow external connections to their Win2k3 exchange server which uses Active Directory to authenticate. Now my actual question is it possible to filter all Exchange traffic from outlook clients to a Single OpenVPN type client from the external network we have setup on this site? sort of like a proxy as I've though of this idea before just don't know if it will be configurable/Is possible. At the moment in time we have to have OpenVPN installed on every Client PC that we need to connect to the head office Exchange server I want to change this so we have a single client that authenticates to OpenVPN server then allows us to access the exchange if this makes sense.

If it doesn't please let me know so I can try and explain it either via diagram or in another way that may be understood.

Thanks.

Does anyone know of some off the shelf (commercially available) software that will set the DSCP field to something other than 0? Im looking to do some network testing using any off the shelf software, voip, games, whatever. I have already setup a traffic generator but my testing needs to encounter a more real life scenario. I have already tried many games, skype, gchat, etc. but nothing sets the DSCP field to anything other than 0.

Alright, here's something for the brainiacs in the house, a little tougher than the usual "my laptop won't connect to my modem" question

I have a DVR/NAS/IP camera setup on a number of sites, using a dedicated PoE switch, that links into the company's LAN via one port to provide them remote viewing of the DVR. Basically, the DVR is set up multi-homed: camera network (including NAS data port) is all 192.168.2.*, company network is 10.0.xx.* (where xx is the site number, including NAS console port), with a gateway of 10.0.xx.254.

This has been working well so far on previous sites, but on this latest site, the network guy wants us to install a separate NIC in the DVR for the company LAN uplink, to keep the camera traffic off the LAN (my understanding is this really shouldn't be a problem, but whatever, that's what the customer wants...).

Thing is, this is a fully L2/L3 managed switch (Cisco SF302-08P - eight 10/100 PoE ports, two GbE ports)... manual here), and I'm thinking, it should be a simple matter to just add some filtering or traffic control that will tell the switch to block all 192.168.2.* traffic from the uplink... catch is, I've never needed to do this sort of thing before, so I'm at a complete loss as to where to start. QoS? VLAN? ACLs? E-I-E-I-O?

I'm a quick study, so if I even had a clue as to which method to use, I could probably muddle it out... I just don't know where to start.

Hi,

I am having a problem on a clients home computers where if I use the option on the VPN to force local traffic to bypass the VPN, after XX Hours Outlook/Exchange stops working and requires a reconnect of the VPN.
When I have the Option in IPv4 to disable bypassing local traffic the above problem is gone and all works fine.. connections last for days+

This happened when a recent change of both the server and client having Telstra BIGPOND Internet. I have previously used Other ISP and Tested the issues with home connections and all works fine eg(Telstra Bigpond to TPG). This is a telstra bigpond to telstra

Server is using Telstra Bigpond ADSL
Client is using Telstra Bigpond Cable Coax Internet
So I would like to learn what is required to use the Route function.
I need help on how to create a few routes which would bypass all websites (Ipaddress in the www) and leave out the server's IP address (The remote server's Ipaddress I dont want to bypass the VPN)  I would like to leave the server ip out for security

I understand and read that I can use mask to allow me to route a range of IP Addresses but got very confused on how the numbering worked.

I have tried deleteing all History and Temp files. Deleting Index.dat and recreating.

Also when you go into control panel and select user accounts is user accounts screen is completely blank with nothing clickable?????

I am intending on re-installing XP, but just wondered if there is anything you guys (and girls) can think of first.

Don’t know about the website issue but it may be a Windows security problem.
As for the user account issue try typing these commands from the Run command;

If that doesn’t help, try the following commands as well.

regsvr32 nusrmgr.cpl

regsvr32 /i mshtml.dll

P.S: It does not happen when I use Policy-based QoS but I don't want to handle it using Group Policies.

As the title says, its quite self explanatory- i can connect to the internet fine - all the settings have been untouched.The status is connected and there isnt anyapparent hardware failure (according to windows). Its just, packets are being sent - but they are not being received. Ive reset my routerseveral times, restarted several times and i can only think of a reformat in case of an OS issue. I would like to leave this as a last resort however. I have suspicions that it may be a hardware problem. This is due to the fact thqt the previous day, before i shut down my computer, lag caused a violent interaction with my foot. it wasnt superman force or anything, just more than a tap so i highlydoubt that was the problem.

Thanks in advance,

At random times, my internet will "drop" connection and will not download any packets, but I am still able to send packets. My Local Area Connection icon continues to say I am connected, my modem is fully functional, and my cables are good. I can get my internet back up and running for 10 minutes or so by disable and re-enabling my Network Connection. If I simply try the "repair", it gives me an error at the "Refreshing IP" step.

I have done a full system scan for viruses and I am clean. My drivers are fully updated, I have disabled my firewalls, and still no help. During the times when it is down, I can successfully ping my modem through CMD, but I get the time-out error if I ping a site, my default gateway, the DHCP Server, or the DMS Servers.

I have made no changes to any major settings on my computer, nor has there been any recent additions/removals of any software.

Does anyone know what is causing this or how I can fix it?

Hi kjseara, the IP address your getting (169.254.x.x) suggests you are unable to connect to your router, you said you had windows firewall running; do you have any antivirus running? If so, try disabling them and then try and connect again. If the problem still persists try disabling your windows firewall and see if you can connect then.

QUESTION: Why are the errors so high?
Why do the errors seem to be increasing at a rate MUCH higher than even the number of packets being sent?
What could be causing this?
Are there any negative consequences of this?
I am able to connect to the internet and other computer on the network just fine, but is this indicative of some kind of problem, hack (trojan/virus)-anything to worry about? Or am I losing any potential speed do to this?
Is there a way to fix it? etc.
Should I care?

It's most likely an indication of some issue with the hardware in the network. My guess is you're having a log of collisions on the Ethernet link.

Make/model of the broadband modem. If dial-up, please specify.
Make/model of the router (if any).

Make/model of network card or wireless adapter.
Make/model of your computer (motherboard if home-built).

If you check the status and note the number of packets send/received, then do it again after exactly one minute, what is the number of sent packets over the minute? What is the number of received packets?

You can set the task scheduler to start your program at a given time or on a given date, or after certain other criteria have been met, since the task scheduler is elevated the UAC will not activate, if you want to start it from a shortcut, you can set it up in task scheduler, then create a shortcut to the the task like so
c:\Windows\system32\schtasks.exe /run /tn "[folder]\[taskname]"

more information on how to do this is available here Bypass UAC using a Desktop Shortcut

Then use a standard account, for everyday use. The virus etc, can only change what can be changed from a standard account, if caught early

Now we will have the opinions from all those that disagree.

Hi

I just wondered if anyone here had an idea of the best application control setting for kaspersky that offers the best protection?

Tony

A:Kaspersky Application Control Setting???

Hardening privilege control mode
Most of the widely used programs are automatically placed in the Trusted category, because they either have a digital signature of the manufacturer, or are included in the KSN Allow list. This allows toughening the restrictions for the other programs: they can be automatically moved in the High Restricted orUntrusted category. In the latter case, KES will automatically block the start of unknown programs that have no digital signature and for which there are no allowing rules within the policy. If a program necessary for work is blocked, you can configure an exclusion for it.Click to expand...

Set to untrusted for any unsigned application instead of heuristics analyzer by default that chances are going to low restricted or high restricted which sometimes can execute the program in all matters.

So, there's no playback problem with other audio files, movies or online audio?

Have you tried the Mic jack in the back?

What happens if you uninstall that driver and let Windows install a default driver... or is there a default driver for that audio system?

It looks like you're installing a legacy driver for a built-in HD audio chip. Is that the driver Intel recommends for Windows-7? Is there a Win Vista driver available?

Sorry, I should add that I have tried this with two microphones (a Shure SM-58 and I'm using it with an adaptor that allows it to be plugged right into the mic input of a PC and also with a regular pc mic), both of which I know work perfectly, but changing the type of mic makes no difference in the outcome.

Hi and welcome to SevenForums!

Usually you do it with Group Policy, depending on what Windows version it is. In Pro and higher take a look at Software Restriction Policy and AppLocker. More info: Best protection against malware?

A good setup shouldn't restrict apps to only the desktop, but instead look at where the programs are located by the shortcuts on the desktop.

I have now reset back to default as I am not sure if it will not open any page like Bing and asking for fix it.

I ran sfc /scannow and it says some errors but cannot fix and there is a folder in windows/logs/cbs. Is there anyway of fixing or just have an extra click before software opening ie the windows products in default list.

I have a WRT110 router with a Lingo voip connected via ethernet cable. I have two laptops connected via wireless where I would like to filter out a couple of websites. In the router menu I have setup an access restriction that filters by the two MAC addresses and entered the two website URLs. When I enable the access profile my voip service stops working. I have a dial tone and the service will dial out AND ring the called number (though I cannot hear the ring), but I can't talk. As well, my number can be called and it will ring, but still again no voice is heard.

Find outgoing mail server(SMTP): Outlook could not connect to the outgoing mail server (SMTP). The problem could be the server name or port, or your server may not support SSL....

My server port numbers: pop3 = 110, smtp = 25.

unhecked = this server requires an SSL-secured connection (pop3 & smtp).

SMTP authentication = unchecked.

Logon using SPA = unchecked.

Nothing on the www seems to help.

Hope this hasn't been covered to death. I searched extensively and couldn't find quite the same problem.

I installed Win7 x64 Ultimate over the weekend. I previously had Beta & RC as a dual boot in addition to XPx64. I'm now running Win7 alone, though I have the HDD with XPx64 set aside "just in case".

Everything has gone pretty well. A few driver/compatibility issues so far, but nothing major.

Now to the problem. At some point I decided I was sick of seeing the permission? pop-up showing up every time I opened an app., so I changed the User Account Control from "level 3" to "level 1". No problem here, I rebooted and restarted several times after this with no issues.

At some later point, the Action Center was warning me about the UAC, and I absentmindedly allowed it to reset that UAC setting.

The next time I turned the machine on, it hung up BIGTIME once the wallpaper & icons were visible. A couple gadgets weren't loading and any time I clicked with the mouse I would get the "not responding" message. It never got past this "stage"

I restarted the machine (via the reset button because nothing in Windows itself was responding) a few times with the same results. Eventually I Safe Moded and did a System Recovery to my last manual recovery point.

Rebooted and voila!, perfect startup 2 or 3 times consecutively.

Just the same, I tested this and reset the UAC up to "level 2", rebooted, and once again MAJOR ... Read more

A:Startup problem related to User Acct. Control Setting

Hello arpharazon,

I am not familiar with this problem. I just tried it myself, and I have no problems. I also tried Googling it, to no avail. Perhaps something corrupted.

First, try scanning for bad system files: Open an elevated command prompt, and type sfc /scannow.

If that does not work, you can try a Repair Install.

If bad comes to worst, a Clean Install should take care of it, and if it doesn't, we can do some more experimenting.

Good luck!

Try typing in MSCONFIG at the Windows + R key run prompt - it will open MSconfig and maybe that is what you changed, and can select the 'normal startup' again. Then reboot.

I read somewhere that a cmd sys check thingie may help, so I did, and It resulted that I had some corrupt files that couldn't be fixed - and put into a CBS.log..

I have this log, but it's far too big to post here, so any help would be appreciated.

I can provide any more information needed about this problem if you need it, just ask!

I keep getting this alert despite the amount of resources that I add to my Gateway.
Our DC and Gateway are running virtually in VMware.  Distributed Virtual Switches are not an option so I have to resort to configuring Promiscuous Port Group.
I configured a Promiscuous Port Group on the same Virtual Switch that the DC (and the rest of our servers) is connected , and assigned it the same VLAN ID as the DC.
ATA is capturing and reporting traffic but I continually receive an alert for some network traffic is not being analyzed.  I have thrown double the resources at our Gateway's
than what the sizing tool identified, and still receive this alert.  At this point I have 24GB of RAM and 10 Cores allocated to my Gateway which is only capturing reporting on 1 DC.  At this point I am about ready to scrap ATA because of how resource
intense it is.
Any ideas or suggestions?  Does it sound like I have the Promiscuous Port Group configured correctly, or is it possible that I am capturing ALL traffic for the VLAN assigned?

Hi, this is probably more of a Windows XP problem but because I'm comparing it with Windows 7, I post it here. Here's actually a copy&paste of what I've written in other forums, but still got no answer to it.

I have a Windows XP Home Edition SP3 running on an Intel QuadCore (Core2Quad) machine with a 4GB RAM and a 500GB HDD. Although my problem is more of a network (internet) related, I am also curious if the details I gave will have an impact to my problem. So my main problem is I have Windows XP on the D: drive and Windows 7 on the C: drive (I'm dual booting). I am connected to the internet through a LAN cable connected to a TP-Link router. My Windows 7 (where I post this question from) get internet connection very easily. It's fast and running without any problem. Recently I noticed that the number of packets sent and received to my Windows 7 is a lot. Here's a screen cap of what I am getting:

Now, with my Windows XP Home Edition, it's different. I am getting a connection (which is good), but I'm only getting a few packets sent and received (which is bad). Here's what I'm getting:

Because of this, I cannot activate my Windows XP and cannot download any update (Windows update, AntiVirus update, etc..). In brief, I cannot use the internet at all.
I've tried everything from clicking the "repair" button, disabling the network adapter, uninstalling the network adapter driver, restarting the router, plug-off the LAN cable, pinging through command prompt, usi... Read more
