Thinkpad L470 - Fingerprint reader rarely works

Q: Thinkpad L470 - Fingerprint reader rarely works

I have bought a refurbished L470 thinkpad and i configurated the fignerprint reader with several fingers and it rarely works when i tried it. I have deleted the fingerprints and reconfigurated them but it's the same thing. I've searched for a solution in the manual but they only advise to clean it with a soft cloth which it doesn't work. Should i be contacting the warranty service?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I ordered a brand new Thinkpad Yoga 260, eveything is fine and I love the machine, except for the fingerprint reader which is not detected and not working. It looks like a hardware problem with the fingerprint reader :I have never seen him it blinkingit doesn't show up on device manager (and I already checked for hidden devices : nothing)it is activated into the BIOSno trace of a fingerprint option on Windows settings under accounts / connexion options (not sure of the naming in english as my Windows is in french)no more luck when trying to install the latest Synaptics FP driver from Lenovo :  a window opens, I click start and the window closes itself after 5 seconds, then nothing special is happening anymore. No error message, nothing. Is someone with a Thinkpad Yoga 260 having the same troubles or could be of any help ? Thanks !

Hi

I don't have that Thinkpad model, but for what I remember in some other model the Fingerprint reader was internally connected to an USB port.

You can check some programs like HWInfo and check where is the fingerprint reader plugged to see if Windows recognize there is a deviced plugged on it. It can also be interesting for you to grab the hardwareID to know the manufacturer of it.

Which Windows version are you using?
There is also some fingerprint drivers on the Yoga 260 support site for Win10 and Win7.
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...

Maybe you can also give it a try.

At Startup, the fingerprint reader illuminates. Very occasionally, one pass opens the Windows screen. Usually, it takes more passes and after 2 or 3 I normally give up and use the passcode entry. I've made sure reader and my finger are clean but this makes little difference. Any advise would be appreciated.

The FP reader does not work on my T450s under Windows 10, even though the drivers "Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=0017)" are installed correctly.I can get into the Windows Hello Fingerprint Setup (snapshot below) but the FP reader doesn't do a thing.Following the steps suggested in Fingerprint-support-on-Windows-10-ThinkPad-T440-and-newer does not change anything. The notebook is brandnew and I didn't have Win 7 or 8 on it before for testing the FP reader, but the driver installed without any issues -- so I guess it's not a hardware problem. I'm happy for any suggestion.

HiI recently applied the Windows 10 April update to my x270. Everything worked okay however Windows Hello and the fingerprint reader no longer work. I have checked the Biometric settings in device manager and the Synaptics WBDI (SGX enabled) device is showing the following status"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31){Operation Failed}The requested operation was unsuccessful". I have checked everything is enabled in the Bios and also uninstalled and resinstalled the device from Lenovo. Has anyone else experienced this issue. Is it a driver incompatability with updated windows 10?Is there an updated driver somewhere please? Thanks in advance

Hey,I've recently installed windows 7 on my t530 because in win10 I couldn't use fingerprint reader cz there's no suitable driver available. So back on windows 7 I installed all the latest drivers from lenovo support site. Fingerprint Reader works perfectly! Now I got like 180 Updates installed. After reboot my fingerprint reader didn't work anymore. I can open the fingerprint tool but the green led is not glowing anymore.in device manager everything is ok. latest driver installed, detected as biometric device.  also it's listed in system settings.I checked my BIOS settings and clicked on "reset fingerprint data" and also disabled the device and enabled it back.nothing seems to work.. is there any solution? Maybe windows blocked the driver or something i don't know. I've deinstalled the fingerprint software AND the driver in device manager. reboot, and installed all again. nothing.. how can this be?

Okay, random weird problem that defies logic. I was busy doing stuff using Google Chrome (logged in on Facebook, trying to browse Newegg, etc.) and I tried logging in to my Newegg account using HP SimplePass, which uses the fingerprint reader technology to log you in to a bunch of different sites. However, this time around, Chrome crashed because HP SimplePass crashed.

I figured it would be best to reboot my system to clear out whatever was going on. However, upon rebooting, I get the "Device driver install yada yada" message that pops up, then it says driver installation failed. Going into device manager reveals that there is an unknown USB device attached (meaning, the fingerprint reader).

I've tried several times to install the driver for the fingerprint reader from HP (which originally had worked just fine). Now, it will not install. No amount of removing the driver and reinstalling it seems to be working, and I'm at my wits end. However, HP SimplePass installs just fine, but since it can't detect the fingerprint reader, it works by remembering typed passwords.

I'd rather NOT have to reinstall Windows if I can help it, but if anyone here has any suggestions that I could try to get this thing to work, that would be great. Thank you!

Hey guys and gals, The sensor had been hit or miss from day one, when it worked it would sometimes take 3 presses before registering correctly. I've been using these kinds of sensors for years on my phones so I was suprised at how much effort it took to get it to work. It often wasn't avaliable to me when the laptop came out of sleep mode, or if the screen had been locked.  One day last month it stopped working completely. It isn't being detected at all in the device manager, unless it's under a differnt name now. I tried restoring from factory and seeing if I could get it back. After running all the Windows, driver, and firmware updates, it's still not present in the device manager. I went in the BIOS and checked to see that the fingerprint sensor was enabled. It was, and then I tried to delete any fingerprint data, but there wasn't any. So I'm wondering, has anyone else has had a similar issue and if there's a way I can fix this without having to RMA my otherwise kickass laptop?  Maybe the senseor is loose? Should I open her up and make sure everything's tight? I haven't unbuckled any of her fasteners yet, but if it could save me a month of being computerless while she's in the shop, I'll gladly try it.   Cheers

I have a T460s on a fresh install of Win10. I just bought an external USB fingerprint reader https://www.amazon.com/Fingerprint-PQI-Matching-Biometric-Security/dp/B06XG4MHFJ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&....My hope was that when my laptop was docked (on a ThinkPad Pro dock), I could plug it into a USB port on my external keyboard and login using it. For the time being, I'm just trying to get it working with the laptop undocked (i.e. forget about external keyboards, USB hubs etc.). Starting from scratch (i.e. fingerprints cleared in both Windows and the BIOS, and the external USB NOT plugged in), I setup the internal fingerprint reader, add prints, and am able login with no problem. When I plug in the external reader, drivers install just fine.  I enrolled a different finger, and was able to login just fine. However, when I unplug the external USB reader, I am never able to get the internal reader working again.  With the external unplugged and after a full restart, the internal will still not let me log in: the fingerprint option doesn?t even show up at the Windows login screen. The only way I can get the internal working again is by plugging the external in again (so that it appears in Device Manager), uninstalling both fingerprint devices (just uninstalling the external USB does not work), restarting the computer, and reenrolling my fingerprint using the internal. I know there is an option in the BIOS to just use the internal re... Hello everyone! So I have a ThinkPad L470 with 256GB SSD. I wanted to expand my internal storage so I was looking online at technical specifications of a model and found out that there could be theoretically space in a WWaN Slot for a second M.2 SSD with a limit up to 128GB. Hi all, rather new to the forums here , I have a few of the L470 to set up and to go with the hybrid docks for end users, I am aware that the 470 does not come with USB-C so these new docks wont charge the devices with the USB-A adapters, what I have also noticed which might be a problem to (some of) my end users is that the laptops will not turn on with the dock's power button, you have to open the laptop (and keep it open) and power it on through the device, the peripherals, display etc works fine after. With all the drivers, firmwares and testing on other L470s, Docks, and devices with USB-C (whic i know charges and turns on machines with USB-C ports), am I to assume that with no charge through the USB-A adapter, the function to turn on the laptop through the dock is not there? Thanks,Craig.

Once and a while a disc will load, and recently one loaded after about 15 minutes. It's an all in one computer so the dvd drive is located on the side, if that helps.

Run a lense cleaner CD a few times to clean the lense.

If it does not help, I am afraid your only option will be to replace the optical drive.

( If possible connect a known good USB external Optical drive and check. If it works then it is almost certain you need to replace the internal drive. Take professional help if it is not a DIY job on your all-in-one.)

Is there a way to improve fingerprint reader? This thing is complete <profanity>. Half of the time it does not recognize the finger and when it recognized, it just takes too long. Updated all drivers and software to the latest, as per dell support suggestion. Still <profanity> :D My old Vostro 3350 FP reader works better in any case.
And the second question is, can the nfc read tags? Installed a couple of programs from windows store, but they do not show the tags info. When the sound is on and I place a tag on the reader, there is chime and that is all. Device manager shows, that device is active and working without problems.
NFC card should be Mifare Plus.

I have a Pentium II 400 using Win 98 and a Motorolla SM56 AD04 56K winmodem. I got the computer last september and I've been using a phone line for internet access. But since I have 2 phone line and the phone line I am not using has call waiting, I decided to use my second phone line for internet access.

Initially, the problem was every once in a while ( every 2 - 3 days), I get connected with this second phone line, but most of the time, I get 'No dial tone', even though the phone cord is plugged in and is tested to work with the phone. When changing to this phone line, I changed the phone number settings. ( With this settings - I was able to connect to the internet with the first phone line - the one that I used to use for internet access ).

A day before changing my phone lines, I installed a shareware called Modem Booster (which is suppose to tune up your modem so you'll get faster speed - downloaded from download.com ). Also, I made sure that I uninstalled the shareware before I changed my phone line.

Could it be that 'modem booster' ruined the settings in my modem? That's what I thought initially so I installed modem booster with my second phone line ( I was able to connect to the internet for 3 days but then the line didn't work anymore. Next, I upgraded my modem driver which did not help at all. Could it be that my second phone line doesn't have enough power ( or something) to provide internet access? HELP.

Hey Guys, I've got a problem with my wireless or computer I think.

Hardware: Inte PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3A Mini PCI Adapter

1. A VERY rare occasion: When I enable my wireless card in Network Connections, it will allow me to connect to my wireless network, and the internet would work fine.

2. 99% of the time: I enable my wireless card, and connect to my home wireless network (which is always 3-5 green bars of connection quality), the network will appear to connect OK, but then my internet will not work.

3. 80% of the time: The wireless network I conntect to (which is supposed to be called "NETGEAR") turns into a really weird network name like "uclm-qc" but it's in weird symbols. This happens with any network I connect to, whether it's my home network, at Starbucks, or at someone else's home.

Here are some screenshots:

I tried reinstalling drivers... nothing.
I tried reinstalling Windows... nothing.
I swept my computer for any adware and virus... nothing.
I have never changed my Internet Protocols since it worked once.

What do you guys think?

Thanks a lot!!

A:Wireless Internet in Dell 9200 Works Very Rarely

Do you really need and want that many automatic connection profiles?

Suggest that you rename your network to something slightly more original than "NETGEAR," remove all other profiles except the ones with encryption, make sure your home network is the first listed, and see what happens.
