Lenovo L440 makes 8 signals (1-3-3-1)

Q: Lenovo L440 makes 8 signals (1-3-3-1)

Hello. I have Lenovo L440 laptop. As I remember BIOS is Phoenix. When I turn on my laptop, it makes 1-3-3-1 (1 signal, pause, 3 signals, pause, 3 signals, pause, 1 signal). I could find in Internet what those signals mean. I could find only 1-3-3. Tell me please, what is wrong with my laptop? Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello and welcome,

From the (English) Hardware Maintenance Manual - ThinkPad L440, L540

One short beep, pause, three short beeps, pause, threemore short beeps, pause, and one short beep

Shut down the computer immediately. Ensure thatmemory modules are installed correctly. If they are, andyou still hear the beeps, have the computer serviced.

That would seem to indicate memory issues.

Hi Ms,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

We understand that your display is not working in your L440 laptop.

Issue might be with the LCD cable. Since the external display is working fine there is no issue with the motherboard.

Note: As per the Lenovo policy, the warranty will be void if the laptop is dismantled by yourself.

We would like you to visit the nearest authorised Lenovo service centre to purchase the power supply.

Service Center link - https://support.lenovo.com/in/en/contactus/findaprovider

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Hi,I have replaced CD-ROM by HDD Caddy with SSD (Samsung 850 EVO 250GB) in my Lenovo ThinkPad L440 (20ASS3GT0) as a second storage device (not one with the OS). When I'm trying to start the system, I'm getting a message "Configuration changes - restart the system." and the system reboots again and again. What is more, I can't access the BIOS any more - pressing F1 does not work. Updating to the newest version of BIOS (1.85) does not help. After removing HDD Caddy everything works fine. I have tried some of the configurations below: Removed the battery, pressed the power button for 10-15 sec. and rebooted with AC Adapter connected - still got message "Configuration changes - restart the system."Removed HDD from standard SATA port and connected it using HDD Caddy - cannot boot into the system. There is no message "Configuration changes...", HDD is detected but it is not on the list with bootable devices (there is only one option to boot over the LAN).HDD Caddy connected with no storage device - boot into the system with no problem. The problem is, that I need two storage devices - one for the OS and second one (using HDD caddy) for another data. Could anyone help me to solve that issue?

Hi, I started having weird after-wake up BSODs (bugcheck: 0x00000133) last week. I don't recall installing or udpating any software (other than Windows update) nor changing hardware configuration.
The BSODs are not regular and don't happen after every wake up, just circa every second third. It seems that they're slightly more likely to happen more times in a row but other than that there doesn't seem to be any way to predict them. Once a BSOD happened during normal use and not immediately after wake up (was about 2 mins after wake up).
The exact way they occur is following: Laptop gets waken up, is normally responsive for about 1-4 seconds, freezes, and after variying amount of time (sometimes seconds, sometimes minutes) fall into BSOD.
Event viewer (system logs) doesn't show anything with the exception of some printer-related problems that have - however -timespamp indicating that they-re after-crash problems. There're no System logs with timestamp in between wake up and crash and the after-reboot ones doesn't provide any useful information.
The laptop runs Windows 8.1 x64 with Ubuntu in dualboot which seems to be unaffected (can't say for sure, don't use it as much).

I just bough this laptop. When first booting it up, it started making a strange rattling noise (as if a card got stuck in the fan or something) and i noticed it comes from the left side of the fan. It stopped on its own after a while then started again for a short few seconds. Now on the second day, I turn the laptop on and the noise comes back for a few seconds. It has a 512 SSD so it can't be the storage. I ran a hardware scan from the Vantage app and no error came up. It my laptop damaged? Should I return it and get a new one?

Hi! I have a Lenovo G580 that's getting about old now (had it for almost 6 years now), and the last few months I've had a big problem with it. When I try to start it, 19 out of 20 times it makes a strange, rythmical ticking sound and won't start. It says "Check cable connection! No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key" (see picture). The only thing I can do is to press the off button and start it again. Sometimes it starts, sometimes the same thing happens again. It can do this ticking thing between 2 and 25 times (but mostly around 15-20 times), but in the end it always starts and works just as it should. Today, on the other hand, it actually started on the first try but then all of the sudden froze and started ticking (when it was already up and running). That has never happened before. I couldn't get it to do anything, so I pressed the off button and tried to start it again, but it started ticking and do it's usual "Insert boot disk" thing again. I am not techincal at all so I have no idea why it does this, and what confuses me the most is that it actually always does start eventually (even if I have to try 30 times), and when it does it works as it should!! (except for today when it froze all of the sudden). So what's the problem, and how can I fix it? Very greatful for your help, it's impossible to try and do school work on a computer that refuses to start when you need it to.

Hi,  Long time Thinkpad user since T420.  Currently a T460s is my daily-driver.  I've been very brand loyal.  One of the things that makes me happiest about Thinkpads is their easy-to-service design. But they keep getting thinner, and thus, less servicable. First went the CPU socket, then the 2.5" HDD slot.  Now on the T490s they've removed the RJ-45 socket, SD card slot, and soldered all the RAM on the MB (!) Was looking at the Dell latitude 7490 which looks quite comparable to the T490s but with all the things I like still intact - has anybody who's a big Thinkpad fan tried it?  What did you like / not like in comparison to the Thinkpad? Thanks

Lenovo Thinkcentre m92p sff (3227) makes Beep sound when powered on since I updated the bios to the version: 9sjw99usa.exe.Also since I replaced the stock lenovo Fans with Noctua fans it makes a second beep (so 2 beep sounds total and there is a fan error in the bios event log), when I connect back the stock fans it makes only 1 beep again. I dont know if the noctua fans would cause the same behaviour on the older bios version since I replaced the fans after the bios update , but I know that with the old bios version there wasnt any beep on startup with the stock fans.I read somewhere that lenovos can give errors in the bios event log with other fans when their rpms are slower then the original fans rpm were, that doesnt explain the single beep on start up with the stock fans though.I wasnt able to find any older bioses for my model to experiment with them on the lenovo support page only the newest bios is offered for download and I wasnt able to find a way to turn of the self test / beep post on start in the bios. Hello Lowryamber27, and welcome to TSG.

I don't think anyone here can help you without knowing the details of your computer.

1) Manufacturer's name and full model number of the computer and/or the Motherboard in the computer

2) Manufacturer's name and full model number of any plug-in video controller card.

3) Has this set-up worked OK in the past and the problem just started? If so has the computer case been opened for any reason?

4 What operating system software are you running?

5) What signs do you have that the computer seems to be powering up normally and it is just the video not working?

Hi, There seems to be some problem detected for my original 16GB M.2 SSD, so I want to replace it with a new one. I bought the following one, which should be compatible https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KBZH72I/ref=twister_B00KBZH7E6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 My question is, after I get it, should I just remove the original one and install the new one? Is there any other thing I should to complete the replacement? The OS is on my HDD, but I don't plan to move it to the new SSD. In this case, do I just need to remove the old one and install the new one? The reason why I ask is that the manual says: "Ensure that you partition the M.2 solid-state drive after installing it on the computer you are servicing. Otherwise, the M.2 solid-state drive will not function correctly." Thanks a lot!

Short answer is yes. My L440 has a Transcend TS256GMTS400 I installed in the M.2 slot, and the software that is downloadable for it allows you to copy the O/S drive to the SSD and boot from it. My L440 goes from power on to logon in literally a few seconds and I still have the 512GB HDD available for things that don't need the blinding speed of the SSD.

Hello finally I got my L440 and made RAM upgrade to 16GB and I also want it to have an SSD. After reading all the manuals and forum messages I think that it have  a sutiable port for an mSATA SDD which will solve my problem in a great way without replacing anything.

My question is, my machine didn't come with an mSATA or WWAN option. While making the RAM upgrade I checked the ports and there is only one seems to be suitable for mSATA but since area is too small I couldn't be sure if it is the one. Can you please check the attachment and tell me if any mSATA will fit in that port? Or maybe it is not for mSATA and I should go with the traditional SSD solutions by replacing the disc?

Hi,

According to the Hardware Maintenance Manual, page 70 that slot is for a WWAN card or M.2 SSD.  An mSATA SSD will not fit.

From what I read here in the boards, finding a high capacity SSD in the right physical size is  a problem.  There are multiple sizes - IIRC the 42mm version is used in Lenovo laptops.

About 2 mo ago I got a brand new (warehouse fugitive) L440.  It had Win7 Pro 64bit.  the first thing I did after starting it was to let it upgrade to Win 10.  I'm a big fan and really like it, the 440, not so much.  I like the speed and quality of the build, It does everything I want and does it exceptionally well, I just can't stand the keyboard.  After reinstalling Win 10 in my T400 everything is finally working as it should and It has a far superior keyboard.  I want to reset it to give to my brother.  When I go to reset it I only get two options, and I don't really want to lose all the factory installed apps.  I'm alson a little concerned that Windows Explorer is showing Windows 7_OS (C.  It has all the app files.  It's not shown as a reset option in Settings, tho.   What's the best way to go here.  I still hae just shy of 4 year s of warrantee on it and don't want to mess that up.

I have an L440 (20AS) that has an M.2 expansion slot. My laptop is having the stock 500GB HDD as the only storage installed as of now. I am thinking of installing an M.2 SSD and using that as the primary boot disk, while keeping my current HDD as it is for pure storage purpose. I have a few questions:1. Is it possible to have such configuration without any hiccups?2. If yes, which would be the best M.2 disk to buy? Any suggestions?3. Is there any way to transfer my current system from existing HDD without reinstalling Windows (I am on Windows 10) on the M.2 SSD? My current C: drive is 65GB (25GB free). All data except installed softwares are in D: drive which is 400GB. So if everything is OK, I will try to buy an M.2 SSD around 128GB and will have to transfer my current C: to that, if that's possible.

Hello.

I got a problem with my new setup.
When i boot up my PC, my monitor dos not get any signal.
Its a new build, with a new case, mobo, cpu gpu and a SSD. got the PSU and ram from my older one.

The mobo is a ASUS P8Z77-V
The GPU is a HIS radeon 7970 ghz edition
The CPU is a i5-3570K
The SSD is a crucial m4 128gb
The case is a CoolerMaster HAF MX miditower.

So i me and 2 friends sat down to build the new system.
Every thing is in palce, where it should be. think we checkt every cable and connector like 3 times, all was in place.
We started up and all fans and lights in the case started. But my monitor says "no signal"

Any ideas?

A:Monitor do not get signals from my new PC.

Hi. Have few things to ask you.
Did you try reinsert the video card to make sure it's properly in contact with the slot?
What connector the monitor has? is it VGA or DVI (analog/digital)?
---
If the mobo has onboard vga port you can try it from there. means that if you did try the above measures and the onboard is giving signal, in can be the VGA card is defective?

Try checking the monitor out with other machine also can be an option to rule out card problem

I'm using a Flex 3-1130.  It's a 2 in 1 netbook with a 360 degree hinge.  Does anyone know (or know where I can find) the sensor signal that tells the OS what position the lid is in?  In Windows 10, the netbook goes to sleep when the lid is closed, it wakes up in laptop mode when it's opened and it switches to tablet mode (turning off the keyboard) when the lid passes 180 degrees.  When the machine is running Linux, opening the lid past 180 doesn't turn off the keyboard and closing it all the way doesn't change the lid state to "off", so I know it's not a simple hardware switch.  What signal/memory address/whatever can I examine to see what position the lid is in?

It is possibly on some monitors using the buttons and menus found on it, my Acer one allows that. I suspect that monitor would do that but not having ever use that model I won't say with certainty. The RCA connector for video is not just an RCA connector. It's called composite video. You need a composite video to VGA converter like this:

The short of it, now that I'm totally an Ubuntu guy, I've been studying up on the O.S., lots of on-line reading from (Yahoo) & (Google). I'm very confused on something here, about 70% to 80% of the on-line materials I have seen, say that Linux systems do not require any type of (antivirus) software!?! Then on the flip side of the same coin about 20% to 30% of the material says Linux system operate best with (antivirus) software, and the pro (antivirus) people are saying that AVG is a hot pick for Linux based system!?!

So what is it folks? Does Linux require or not require any type of (antivirus) programs? For almost a decade while using Windows 2000 based systems, XP included, I was a total security freak when it came to protecting my Windows O.S., I'm just wanting to know if I have to imply the same "security freak" methods with Linux?

"Thanks for your time here folks, I'm just confused"!

A:I'm getting mixed signals here

short answer; but of course it does.

Reasoning: There's no such thing as perfect software (applications or systems).
Buffer overflow and other errors allow systems to become corrupted.

When properly installed and the permission system setup correctly, the big issue becomes
HOW you operate the system - - do you carelessly logon as root?
If so, then you open the door for a simple thing like buffer overflow to corrupt the stack
and jump into unknown places using the root credentials - - bad practice.

Instead, use su root or sudo root only when necessary to perform maintenance and
then get back into your personal, everyday, non-root login.
The exposure for trojans and virus' are greatly reduced (but does not go to zero).

Every system where there's a browser or email program creates the exposure for one or more styles of infections.
The ONLY system that can not be infected is one that has no network, share nothing to or from any other system, and
never mounts a floppy, USB stick, or makes a Bluetooth connection to anything - - in short - - the system is isolated from the world of other users.

I tried many online solutions like updating wi fi drivers , disabling wifi driver then scanning for hardware changes ,wi fi adapter ->properties->ipv4->set everything automatic , but still my wi fi adapter is not detecting the wi fi signals , the wi fi button is also on. but it is indicating 'NOT AVAILABLE' . and i think this problem is coming after i replaced my laptop's panel and hinges from hp service centre.  Is it a hardware problem??

A:thinkpad l440 cpu upgrade?

If you do it yourself it will certainly be cheaper, but the CPU is not considered customer-replaceable, so it may affect your warranty status. If you can do the replacement in a professional manner, so it doesn't look worked on, probably nobody will complain, as long as you keep the old part and replace it back before getting service. The FRU of the i7-4600m is 04X4049. You do not want to get one marked "ES" (engineering sample). The ES parts may not be final versions
