T520 Keyboard Shortcuts Needed For Resolution, Rotate & More

Q: T520 Keyboard Shortcuts Needed For Resolution, Rotate & More

This is a Lenovo t520 with Windows 10 intalled...
My cat keeps jumping on my key board and she has a few "tricks" that are very frustating. All deal with the screen dispaly.
The first issue is she changes the RESOLUTION to 900x.... However, when she does it, there is NOT "keep these settings". So it stays...
How the HECK does she do this! It ME to right click on desktop, go to graphcs prop... then change BACK to 1900.

The other she recently "learned" is she ROTATES the screen. Again, I have NO idea of HOW she does it, but again it seems to be a HOTKEY, and does not have a confrmation.

Now today, (she seems to be very talented! Just wish she could learn how to pay bills!) She changed the Ease of Accessability and set it to GRAYSCALE.
( was not here to see what she did, but again, I image it was some type of hotkey.

When she gets to the keyboard, she just jumps up and the lays down. No stepping all over the keyboard,

Any idea how I can LOCK, or what the key stroke are so I can use them to MY advantage?
I have google multiple tiem with out finding any....

I mean, first time if was funny espeacilly the screen flip!. but... I need to stop this. I leave my screen up sometimes as I fall asleep wating youtube
I have not installed any tools that should do this, but maybe something installed by Lenovo? This does NOT seem to be a WINDOWS feature, as I cannot find reference to it anywhere!

HELP Bruce....

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

machine: Dell XPS15 2014 with Windows 8.1
Windows 8 seems to have keyboard shortcuts that conflict with some software shortcuts.
I found this out when, using MS-Word, I hit the Ctrl + F1 shortcut, which toggles the ribbon, up to Windows 7.
Thanks to Windows 8, what this shortcut does is display a graphical representation of how bright the screen is.
Today, working with Adobe Indesign, I tried to use a shortcut specific to that software that allows one to create multiple instances of the same graphic - Alt + drag + right arrow key. What I got instead was my screen getting rotated 90 degrees.
This is a VERY serious issue, as clearly one can expect a raft of such Windows 8 keyboard shortcuts to interfere with professional workflow - just how many are there?
Can someone please confirm whether or not Windows 8 keyboard shortcuts can be disabled, and if yes, how.
Many thanks

I'm looking for a way to create click-able Icons/shortcuts for various keyboard shortcuts (ctrl+..., etc.).
[My mouse is very acessable, but my keyboard is not. I know about various on-screen keyboards; but I would prefer clickable Icons that I could put in my quick launch toolbar, for example.]

Is this possible to do within XP, or with some program I can install?

Thanks in advance for any help.

As of 6/24/2016, the following keys have been performing very oddly. The following is listed as key - result a - \;lkjfdsa <menu?>q - poiurewqz - (mutes microphone and keyboard)1 - 09` - <ctrl><tab> - y{}<escape> - close? So if I type "a" I get "\;lkjfdsa" and a pop-up menu. etc. I am noting that all of the keys affected are on the left side of the board. All other keys seem to be working properly. The only way I am able to type this is by the on-screen keyboard. This problem started with no known event of shock or exposure. I have tried reinstalling drivers, uninstalling recent windows updates, and running windows recovery. I'm assuming this is a keyboard hardware failure. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The moment I got this laptop, I was having palm rejection issue when I wrote in Microsoft One Note (I use it for school). I just dealt with it. Then it crashed one day and give me "inaccessible_boot_device" error.I was able to restore it to previous point through Windows 10 recovery. But then after the 3rd time of doing that, the restore point was not there anymore. Then I left the computer to run "automatic repair" at the Lenovo boot screen. That failed. So, I installed my own windows 10 version 1607 (I wiped the Lenovo recovery portion of the drive). Now the screen would not auto rotate in tablet mode and the keyboard and touchpad will not work once I go from tablet mode to laptop mode. I have to restart the computer for the keyboard and touchpad to work again. Lenovo tech suport spent 2 hours installing and uninstall updates and drivers. It still did not work. They said it was Microsoft's problem. Lenovo tech support gave up and told me to contact Microsoft. I has been trying to access Lenovo USB Recovery Center for the past month, but it has been down. I believe that maybe if I could put this laptop back to manufacturer default state, it may fix it. So a few months ago I moved out and I forgot my laptop in sleep mode for a few days. When I tried to open it, I couldn't succeed. I put the charger in, kept pressing the Power button, nothing happened. Eventually, I managed to boot it by removing the battery and the charger, remove the CMOS battery, leave it for 20 seconds, put it back in and when I would put the charger in, it would boot automatically without me pressing any button. But another issue occurred: some keys weren't working. To be more specific: b, n, space, ?, 3/4 arrow keys and a few other. Also the touchpad is malfunctioning. What I later realized was that the Power button is not working either. So any troubleshoot steps regarding my broken keyboard in which I had to press the power button a few times or hold it pressed in order to discharge would not work.  The things I tried so far: - remove keyboard, reattach it;- remove the CMOS battery, put it back and boot;- remove the CMOS battery and boot without it;- try to boot without battery;- try to boot without charger;- reset BIOS settings; Right now I'm using an USB keyboard. The keyboard is not a big issue, I can keep using the USB keyboard, but the Power button is not working. So every time my laptop gets shut down, or maybe its power gets cut off, I have to remove the CMOS battery in order to reboot it. I know the worst (most expensive) scenario here would be to replace the keyboard entirely. But until then, I wan... Read more

I have thousands of JPG files, and not a single file can be rotated using the rotate feature in Windows XP. I have also tried loading the JPGs in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and they cannot be rotated there either.

Clicking the rotate clockwise or rotate counter-clickwise buttons in Windows has no effect, nothing happens. I am able to rotate the pictures using other image editing software, but it would be much more convenient if Windows would allow me to do it.

Note: I can rotate GIFs without any problem. Only JPGs won't rotate.

Does anyone have any idea what could be done to solve this problem? Thanks in advance.

Windows 10
Start - Settings - Ease of Access - Keyboard

Everything here is off. If i turn on the On-Screen Keyboard no keys are Highlighted (indicating they are depressed/stuck )
When I use the hard keyboard and sometimes even the onscreen keyboard its as if either Ctrl, Alt Win or something are pressed down as it just types shortcuts.
EG:

-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via onscreen keyboard types as normal
-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via hard keyboard brings up -Chrome://history- But now also on the onscreen keyboard Ctrl is Highlighted.
I click on the onscreen keyboard to deactivate the now highlighted Ctrl button and try again. Now things are different, as now both the onscreen keyboard and the hard keyboard both bring up ?Chrome://history- when -H- is typed ( Shift is not depressed )

This seems to randomly cycle one min onscreen keyboard works fine, next the keyboard works fine or they either work or none of the work rendering the computer useless.

I cant help feel it?s a software issue but im no pro and I don?t have an additional external keyboard to try but as the onscreen and hard keyboard work ok for a while sometimes I assume something is up and that?s what brought me here.

Hopefully this is clear enough to be understood and to help others who may have the same issue.

Thank you so much for your time.

As I wrote in the title, my Shift and Alt keys stopped working for keyboard shortcuts. However, the Shift key still works when capitalizing letters.

I've been dealing with this problem off/on for the past two weeks and haven't been able to figure it out. I've gone into Ease of Access features and turned on/off all of the available options (Mouse Keys, Sticky Keys, Toggle Keys, Filter Keys). I've pressed Shift for 8 seconds, and pressed it 5 times, and still haven't been able to correct it.

Thank you in advance for any help offered.

Possibly helpful additional information:
I've got a Spanish/Latin American keyboard layout installed in addition to the US English keyboard layout. I toggle back and forth with Left Alt + Shift (which is how I noticed my Shift key stopped working).
I play a game whose controls rely on a lot of Shift key pressing and holding.

When was the last time you used a can of air cleaner on the keyboard? If it isn't from contact wear often keyboards tend to get loaded up with dust and debris!

One example of that is having any snacks onhand around a pc where little bits get passed along from your fingers onto and under the keys themselves. Keyboards are known to get loaded up fast with any foods present!

You are more than likely opening that picture with Windows Photo Viewer and the functions you are identifying are inherent to the program and cannot be changed and/or removed.

Thought I'd let you know that I figured it out.

Solution is to press Windows button on keyboard. When the start menu pops up, use your arrow keys to navigate to the Control Panel. Press Enter key. When the Control Panel pops up, navigate using your arrow keys to the Mouse icon. Press Enter again. Now ,when Mouse Properties window pops up, use your Tab key to navigate to the tabs at the top of the window, then the arrow keys to navigate through the tabs to the Device Settings tab. The tabs should open as you navigate through them. Once there use the Tab key to navigate to the enable button. Press Enter.

Thanks for being here!

Well, no, either you disable all <WINDOWS>+<KEY> combinations, or keep all of them.

Is there any particular reason why you need to re-assign <WINDOWS>+<C>, <WINDOWS>+<UP>, <WINDOWS>+<DOWN>, <WINDOWS>+<DOWN> and <WINDOWS>+<SPACE>?

I have an old system and am in the process of getting a WINXP system (which I will be networking with my old WIN98SE system). I know how to do all sorts of workarounds in WIN98SE -- many using the underlying DOS capabilities -- and I have no idea where to start looking for similar capabilities for WINXP (things like using REGETIT, etc.) Can someone point me to a book or a site where I might find such things?

Thanks

Is it possible to create a keyboard shortcut in Vista for text (e.g. a complicated name or a phrase) that can be used in any application? I know that custom shortcuts are possible for opening applications and I think it was possible to create text shortcuts in earlier versions of Windows, but I can't find any information on how this might be done in Vista.

A macro is what you are looking for.

On Windows 7 I used a keyboard shortcut (win+shift+left/right arrow) to quickly move a window between my laptop screen and external monitor. This is no longer working for me in Win10. Is that just me (does it work for you?) or did MS take this shortcut out of Win 10?

TIA.

Is there a way to globally change keyboard shortcuts in Windows. For example if I would like to have CTRL+D as copy instead as CTRL+C. So that it would be changed in every application (globally) that uses CTRL+C as copy.

I know of third party software that can do this but I wwant to be able to set it from Windows. Even if it's some registry hack or something. As long as it is possible on a clean install WinXP install.

Thanks.
