Left trackpoint button T410i doesn't work

Q: Left trackpoint button T410i doesn't work

I have upgraded my old T410i with some extra RAM and an SSD. The system works great and fast. There is one problem. I have noticed that although my trackpoint and right and middle button (above trackpad) work like the should the left button (above trackpad) doesn't. I thought this has to work like the left mouse button or the left button under the trackpad but it doesn't. I have the latest bios version 1.45 installed and the latest drivers. I have also tried to detach the keyboard and attached it again. After that I tried to disable the trackpoint in the bios and enable it again. This doesn't help either. Maybe it is a defective key because all the other functions and keys do work. Is there something overlook?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello, The left button on my Synaptics Touchpad doesn't work when I'm pressing a key on the keyboard. Initially, I thought it was a PalmCheck problem, but that feature was already disabled. The right click works fine and so does the touchpad itself. The only problem is the left button. I tried reinstalling an updated driver, but that didn't fix the problem. I tried the generic Synaptics driver and both the HP Windows 8 and 8.1 versions. They all worked fine for all touchpad functions except for the left button which still doesn't work when I'm pressing a keyboard key. I tried using a wireless mouse and the left click worked fine so the problem is only with the touchpad.

Same thing for me too, and I really want it fixed. I'm using an HP Pavillion Windows 8.1 Laptop, and using the same TouchPad as you. Kudos for you!

Got a T440s Touch. Trackpad looks fine but the left side is slightly tilted compared to the right. Clicking the buttons at the bottom work and the right TrackPoint button at the top of the tochpad works, as does the centre scroll button, but the left one doesn't. The left button doesn't seem to click - can this be fixed easily? Have tried playing around with drivers, blowing compressed air into the trackpad, updating BIOS, enabling/disabling TrackPoint in the BIOS but all to no avail. Any ideas? If the worst comes to the worst I have an L540 - can I swap the trackpads over?

I've had this problem before and had a replacement, but in the replaced machine the problem came back. Especially when pressing the button all the way on the left side it is sometimes unresponsive even though it makes a clicking noise. But sometimes it works, so maybe it is caused by dust? Is anyone else having this problem?

Even while typing the subject line of this thread, I had to retype it a couple of times as the left button triggered unknown clicks on the web page loading another while my left thumb unintentionally and inevitably rested on it. Happening quite frequently with random cliks being registered. Adjusting sensitivity of the trackpoint or touchpad does not have any effect. I don't see any other settings. Did anyone ever face this? Is there perhaps a firmware/software approach to fix such things? I jut bought this Yoga in November, did not start to really use it since a few days ago and is why I just noticed this way after the return period, and I don't want to go to the hassle of warranty claim if there's a software workaround.

I have four computers running Win10. On two of them the windows "Start" button on the task bar doesn't work. So I can't get to Settings or Apps. I can right click on the Start button and get the "right-click menu". All of the other task bar buttons work.

What's going on with this? It used to work. For a while it didn't work on my laptop, now that is working but on two other desktop computers it doesn't work. All computers have same Win10 version and latest updates (although hardware differs some between them).

Can I add the "Settings" and "All Apps" shortcut I would normally get left-clicking on the Start button to the Start button's "right-click menu"?

I have a brand-new EliteBook 840 running Windows 10. The left touchpad button sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. It's like this: If I click a second time (or a third time) with the left button, without having moved the cursor (not double click, but two separated clicks), then the computer doesn't respond to the click. If I click by tapping on the touchpad area (instead of pressing the button) then everything is fine. But I don't like tapping! If I click with an external mouse connected via USB then everything is fine. If I move the cursor and then click, then it works. The problem is very annoying because each time the computer doesn't respond to the clicks, I have to move the cursor and then click again.

I'm using Red Octane's Ignition 3.0 dance mat (for Dance Dance Revolution games) on Windows Vista using the USB plug. While all individual buttons operate properly, if I press left and down at the same time, or right and down at the same time, only left or right (respectively) is read by the computer. Is this an issue with the hardware itself or is it something that can be addressed within the OS?

It should be noted that this isn't the more common opposite-axes issue; left + right works properly, as does up + down.

I was having responsiveness issues with the trackpad for a while, then, i open my laptop one day and it's completely unresponsive, as well has the backlit keyboard not working (the hotkey still pops up that it's "lighting up" the keyboard, but no actual lights) and the trackpoint being completely unresponsive too. I've tried:- Restarting computer- Using Lenovo's various "fixing" softwares- Looking for a keyboard firmware shortcut for enabling/disabling trackpad, (doesn't exist on this computer)- Re installing drivers (Ultranav driver refuses to install manually, "driver installation failed")- Booting on a non microsoft OS (Booted on a linux Mint installation and it still doesn't work)- Booting into BIOS and looking for "enable/disable trackpad option", That option does not exist for me.- Opening up computer and checking the physical connection, All plugged in fine. When i open the device manager in windows there is no entry for the mouse whatsoever. The touch screen and the pen both work fine. I think it all points towards a hardware issue, i can pick up another trackpad on ebay for pretty cheap, but obviously i'd like to make sure that it would actually solve the issues.  The major confusion for me is that why would faulty trackpad hardware stop the backlit keyboard from lighting up? How are the two linked? Any ideas appreciated, Thanks!

Hi everyone, I currently own a T430S, and just recently the FN button on my laptop started to malfunction. It would work sometimes work but most of the times it doesn't register at all(refer to the video). Also I encountered another problem which is my laptop will wake up right away after put into sleep mode. This happens either when I put it into sleep mode or when I close my laptop(please also refer to the video). I have tried to reset my BIOS, tried unplugging my keyboard, but still no luck. Is there a way to fix this issue? This issue really has been bugging me for the past few days. I would appreciate any kind of support! Thank you!

Hi killer bee,

I would hazard a guess that it's a hardware issue. The best way to test is to either put a known good mouse on your system or try your mouse on a different system.

Those clicky-type buttons have a definite lifespan just like anything mechanical.

I also have a mouse with a wonky left button but I can't replace it because instead of having a scroll wheel, it has a toggle. Makes scrolling through long documents so much easier than having to roll, roll, roll the wheel.

There is a separate touchpad driver as well as the mouse driver. If you see no separate settings in Control Panel, try reinstalling the driver from the Dell site.

I've got a Toshiba Satellite A105-s4064 notebook. Recently the left click on the touchpad has stopped working.

So far I've cracked the case open to check if a connection was loose and one is not. I also checked the drivers, updated and still no luck.

When I plug in a wireless mouse, both clicks work fine. The right click on the touchpad works great. The touchpad itself works great. Just the left click is essentially worthless right now.

Any ideas?

The microswitch is most likely worn out. You'll have to have it replaced... or cheaper to use a mouse.

I want my Thinkpad to be stable enough to run DJ software (Native Instruments traktor). My thinkpad has 8 gb of ram and a 256 gig Samsung SSD. I followed all the tips I could find by doing a fresh install of Windows 7 SP1 and patched it up to date. I disabled every process suggested by the DJs who use PCs and also followed the recommendations on the Native Instruments site. Basically, there is nothing on this system now except for the operating system and Latency Mon. When I test it with that, I get the following error message. (attached pic). Shouldn't this machine be robust enough to run DJ software? What can I do to stabilize my system? How can I disable 'CPU throttling" as Latency Mon suggests?  ??

Any ideas why nothing happens when I press the WinLogo key + Shift + Left or Right combination to move the current window to the other display in dual-monitor mode?  I'm using Win 7 Pro 64 bit on a quad-core HP notebook in extended display mode
with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 230M driver (version My primary
display is an external LCD on my right and the notebook LCD is on my left. I normally use the Classic interface but the key combination doesn't work with the regular Aero theme either.  I do connect with an external keyboard but the combination
also doesn't work on the notebook keypad and it doesn't work with either the numeric key pad arrow keys or the dedicated arrow keys on either keyboard.  Other WinLogo key shortcuts do work. For example, in the Aero theme, the WinLogo+Space key works.
Also not working is the unshifted WinLogo+Left/Right combination to align the window to the right or left edge.

A:Why doesn't WinLogo+Shift+Left/Right work?

this option in the Make the keyboard easier to use section of the
Ease of Access Center made the keys work again:
Prevent windows from being automatically arranged when moved to the edge of the screen.

I think early on I checked this box because I didn't like the idea of my windows getting auto-arranged like that. But as it turns out, it seems to just refer to the auto-maximize effect when dragging a window to the top screen edge -- at least that's all I
see when configured with the Classic theme. (Along with, of course, the WinLogo assisted functions.)

A:Windows 10 left click on my mouse doesn't work

You didn't describe your laptop, but it's my guess the left-click button of its touchpad is worn out or damaged.
It's not a common problem with laptops, but it does happen.

Have you tried connecting and using an external USB wireless mouse with your laptop?
It's what I use because it makes navigating and functions easier and faster to perform than what the touchpad does.

When i start my laptop my mouse clickers work just fine, after using my laptop for a few minutes (time varies), my left mouse clicker starts to not work right. I have to click on something on the screen multiple times in order to do anything. And sometimes when I have clicked on something on the screen, it drags it around like an image, even text, web browser tabs, just about anything. Sometimes i don't even have to click on something to drag it around, sometimes i will be just sitting there using my laptop with my fingers resting on the mouse clickers and the mouse pad and i will go to type something in or click on a button and it will drag around what i moved over with my mouse cursor. Sometimes when i click on any scroll bar once, it keeps on dragging it around like i have the left mouse clicker held down.

A:left Mouse clicker doesn't work properly...

But if you use the touchpad buttons there is no problem? If so, try a different mouse. Or replace the batteries if a wireless mouse.

Hi everyone. A few days ago I downloaded something that caused pop-ups, redirects and double tabs to open in my Google Chrome (even though the setting was set to only open ONE tab).
Malwarebytes found 83 malware files (at once) on my system and I cleared it out which removed the pop-ups and redirects, but I found I System Restore isn't working and I can't access the wizard. When I try, it says: SYSTEM RESTORE IS NOT ABLE TO PROTECT YOUR COMPUTER. PLEASE RESTART YOUR COMPUTER, AND THEN RUN SYSTEM RESTORE AGAIN.
However, restarting it and trying again gives you the same results.
I then used the patch #278 sysrestoreenable.reg from Kelly's Corner and it 'installed' but still, System Restore doesn't work.
Another site said that this is evidence I might still have malware that neither Malwarebytes or Ad-aware have been able to detect. Can someone look at the logs and see if there is something I should be concerned about? I couldn't find anything, but I could really use some experienced eyes taking a look.
1: I backed everything up.
2: XP Firewall is and has been on.
3: I downloaded and ran DDS and made logs of programs running (attached).
4: I made a Hijackthis log too (also attached)
My apologies if I did this request incorrectly.
Thank you in advance for your time.

I have one of the strangest issues I have come across. After upgrading to 8.1 my power button doesn't always work when trying to enter sleep mode. It's how I send my computer to sleep and wake it up. If the computer is off or asleep and I press the button it works every time, but if it is on and I press it to send it to sleep mode it works probably 25% of the time.

Not sure what specs will be useful so here are the main things: custom built computer inside a "Cooler Master Storm Enforcer" case with an ASRock Z77 Extreme6 motherboard, Intel i7 3770k, and Windows 8.1 Pro w/ media center.

Also as a side issue (that has been going on since before Windows 8.1) when I right click a word in Chrome to auto correct it that only works once per text entry. If I click the new word on the context menu nothing happens.

It's as if IE is trying to "protect" me from showing that login page again, but at some sites I need to re-access it after logging in.

This started happening after the following took place..

I uninstalled a trial version of Zone Alarm Suite and then installed the free Zone Alarm firewall and AVG anti-virus.

I have no idea how or why either of those would affect this, but it's a strong coincidence to say the least. I've messed with every setting I can think of in IE, Zone Alarm, and AVG and I'm stumped. And turning off ZA or AVG doesn't help.

Disclaimer- I am not very tech savvy so please excuse my non-tech lingo as I try to explain my problem.
Two days ago I noticed that when I used my right mouse button on any file or folder it would start processing and the Windows little progress circle would appear and then it would eventually give me a message of "Not responding" and shut down/
freeze what I was doing. I will then have to do control-Alt-delete to bring up the task manager to close that program out. Sometimes I have to restart my computer to be able to use it again.
I use a wireless mouse. I got a different mouse from another computer that was functioning properly and I had the same problems when using it on my computer. So it isn't a mouse/ equipment problem.
I have Windows 7 Home Premium on my computer.
I use my computer for my home business everyday and I am in such a habit of using my right mouse button function that it is hard to use it.
Hopefully it is a simple fix.

Welcome to the Community Forums.
While unplugged, try removing the battery and press and hold down the power button for 12 seconds.
Connect the ac charger and press the Novo button (item2 page 69).
Are you planning on doing a full factory reset (to launch within windows) or just going in the BIOS (alternate option FN+ F2)?
As long as the hidden partition is intact and no changes made to the partitioning like resizing , try checking via disk management.
