Pc turn on and immediately turn off after 2 seconds(with external gpu)

Q: Pc turn on and immediately turn off after 2 seconds(with external gpu)

HI TO ALL:
im having a problem with my pc that i mostly used..heres the situation :
my pc is working fine suddenly 1 day it slows and slightly hanging so i restarted it after restart problem occurs it powers on(all running: fans, hdd, dvd rom,cpu fan)then after 2 seconds it goes off automatically.so then i open the case and reseated all components(i know some basic troubleshooting) i tried to power on again and same things happen turn off after 2 seconds. i remove the gpu and connect my monitor to the onboard, so it starts finally and get me to "loading windows "then it go black screen, i restart it again by pressing the restart button and i boot trough enable vga mode by pressing f8.then it boots and it loads the windows and i can use it normally only on vga mode..so i downloaded the latest driver of my gpu's onboard and external.i uninstalled the drivers through vga mode then restart, again loading windows then black screen, restart againd and boot through vga mode install the updated drivers then reboot, loading windows then black screen with some pixelate flickering cursor on screen. (to make it short it only boots on enable vga mode..then i go replacing my psu with working from another pc and same thing happened..so then i reformat my pc and didnt installed any gpu including the onboard i disabled it..and its working fine with that..

note* with my external gpu installed it goes off after 2 seconds it power on.
with my onboard gpu enabled it gives black screen after loading.
i also tried the other working external gpus and samething happens..
WORKING NORMALLY WITHOUT EXTERNAL GPU AND DISABLED ONBOARD GPU.
--so maybe its my mobo is bad suspecting my pci slot section..anybody can help me ??2 days trying to fix but still i cant..thanks in advance..

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Gateway nv50a02u Laptop came in with a broken LED/LCD screen Cracked across the center. Booted machine up and using an external monitor determined that everything else seems ok. Quick hardware test with MRI bootable cd confirmed that everything was fine. (we use this to determine if machine was dropped or stepped on) Confirmed with customer that he jerked the lid open from the right corner and the screen snapped. Opened lcd cover and using model number off of the old screen we ordered a new one. After new LED/LCD arrived I pulled battery, memory, hard drive, wifi card, and dvd drive out of machine as well as clearing all static charge on the mobo. I used a wrist strap connected to a grounding wire that runs to the ground strap on a nearby wall plug. after replacing the led/lcd I plugged in only the power adapter. apon pressing the power button the power light comes on for 2 seconds and goes off. I then placed memory and dvd drive to see if it would post but to no avail. I pulled the bios battery for 3 hours (as I could not determine where the clear cmos pads were) and still no boot. I have asked gateway and they are telling me to pay them 130.00 and they will walk me through troubleshooting it. (they are horrible now that they are owned by Acer). There does not seem to be a lid switch that I can Identify but I am unable to determine if there is one built into the lcd or not.

Anyone have an Idea?

Anyone???

HP Pavillion will not turn on immediately after complete shutdown...

If you choose start/shutdown and power the pc all the way down, then press the power button to turn it back on it will not boot. It will power on, cd light comes on, can hear the pc fans and hears the kicker...the power light doesn't light, the suspend light does.

IF...you wait about 15-20 minutes, you can turn it back on. Acts as though it has to cool down. All fans are working.

Any clue?

This morning I came to my computer and it had a BSOD from my wireless adapter driver. This has happened a few times before. But when I turned it off and tried to turn it back on, it wont start! As soon as I press the power button, the lights flash and the fans get one jolt of power causing them to spin and die out immediately and then everything stops in under a seccond. What could be causing this? I did add a new new hard drive to my computer yesterday, but it has restarted fine a few times since then, and unplugging it didn't fix the problem. Other than that, I can't think of anything that is different that would be causing this. Any ideas?

My relatively new Yoga 3 Pro (4 months old) inbuild screen goes blacl/turns off after 30 seconds unless I am activity typing or moving the mouse around.  The screen still seems to be on and I can see the back-light but the screen is completely black.  I have to hit a key or click the trackpad for it to come back on.  This happens no mattter what program/app I am using or even if I am just displaying the desktop.  It will even happen when viewing youtube videos or reading a pdf.   While I have not tried it, I am pretty sure it it will do this when doing a presentation unless I move through the slides within 30 seconds.  I have adjuster the timer for the screen to turn off in Power & System settings (tried everything from 2 min to never for both battery and plugged-in) and have disabled Harmony Paper Display (using the Fn+Esc)  with no effect.   The screen just goes black after 30 seconds no matter what I do.  Does anyone know how to stop this from happening. This is really annoying and pretty much makes the computer useless for work.

For these last couple of months i've had issues with BSODs. I blamed it on the RAMs and returned them to the store. While i was waiting for them to return, i borrowed my brother's RAMs, and it turned out i still got the BSODs. Anyway, i fixed the problem a few days ago when i updated most of my drivers.

Today i got my RAMs back. I switched them out with my brother's RAMs and booted the computer. it looked fine the first 2-5 seconds but then it turns off and boots again by itself a few seconds later.

I've had a similar issue before, and it turned out it was my heatsink which wasnt proberbly mounted. I checked it, and it might have been loose but i managed to fix it and now it should be mounted correctly. Still, the computer reboots after a couple of seconds.

Ive checked all the cables to see it any of them were loose
Ive tried to plug the videocard into another plug
Ive taken the CPU out and back in
Ive tried to switch out the RAMs one by one

Do you have any suggestions ???
Thanks in advance.

Hi Millurn welcome to the site.

seem odd that they Would BOTH not work. Might be the CPU might be at fault here. I am surprised that it does not work as everything is compatible.

It also sounds like it might be the PSU. Can you get hold of another 400W plus PSU and see if that works. If so then you know what the Issue is.

hope this helps

Just aquired an Inspiron 5759 which is great and does everything I want apart from one thing - it takes an eternity (10 seconds) to show anything on the screen and as it doesn't have a power light I thought it wasn't turning on the first few times I pressed the power button so obviously pressed it more times than I should have!
I have seen the thread about switching the light at the front to show the HDD activity but as you have to press the fn and H key every time you turn it on it doesn't really help.
This is a real issue for me so is there any way to make it boot quicker?

built my computer over 4 years ago, woke up one day and my computer would only turn on for a couple seconds before shutting down. stripped it down to:

MoBo: Soyo Dragon Plus 2 (ATX, 478 socket)
PSU: 350w w/ X-dreamer case
CPU: 2.6Ghz Intel P4

still had same problem. replaced PSU w/ 400w, same problem, replaced CPU w/ 2.4Ghz P4, same problem. thought it was a bad CPU because when start it up w/o the 4 pin connecter plugged into the motherboard, it runs the fans w/o powering down.

what am i missing?

Hello... let me state the problem.

Problem: Computer shuts down randomly. I press the power switch, but it does not turn the computer on. I have to wait a while and press power switch, and it turns on, or I switch the voltage switch (red switch) on the back of the PSU a few times, press power, switch voltage switch back to 110V and then power switch and it turns on normally. (Probably not good for it) It then runs for like 1 hour --> 1 day and turns off randomly again, where i must repeat.

Reason?: I use to never leave my computer on for longer than a day. I never downloaded anything large for it to be left on overnight. During chirstmas I got a Dual Layer DVD-Burner and installed that. I have been leaving my computer on for weeks at a time downloading large files now. Everything was fine for about 3 weeks. Near the end of Janurary it first happened. I didn't think much about it, just turned it back on and it worked fine. About 2 weeks after that it occured again: Now it happens pretty much every day with the added bonus of the power switch not responding for about 1 --> 5 mins.

Possible Problem: The thing I find most insteresting is the fact that after it shut's down, it will not start up for about 1 mins (power switch doesn't respond for a little bit). I can not tell if it is because:
1) I started leaving my computer on for weeks at a time and now Mobo is burning out or PSU?
2) Because I installed the Dual Layer DVD-Burner, and ... Read more

A:Computer doesn't turn on for a few seconds? PSU Problem?

Sounds like it could be the PSU. I had similar problems in getting the bugger to start up and swapping out the PSU seemed to fix it. I've also had problems with the powerup button getting stuck and causing similar symptoms, but with it shutting down my guess would be PSU. Good luck!

Hello everyone!I have a Dell optiplex 780 (DT) with these specs:
cPU E7500320gb hdd2x2GB RAM 1333GPU HD 5450 Low ProfileWindows 7 professional.
I received it from a friend without hdd and I reformatted with a new one.Now presents a strange problem:1. I turn off the PC.2. I turn off the power strip.3. switch on the power strip.4. the pc Auto start for 2 seconds, then turns off. (No video on the monitor)5. I turn on my pc by the key "power on" as usual, and everything is working normally.
I do not understand why when I give the current through the power strip, the computer will automatically start for only two seconds.
So I tried to reset the bios (CMOS), but has not changed anything.
I tried to format the computer and install Ubuntu = problem solved!I tried to format the computer and install "Another operating system" = problem solvedReformat and install windows 7 Professional = the problem is back!
Thanks to anyone who can give me some suggestions!
ps: sorry for bad Inglese!

A:Dell Optiplex 780 (DT) auto start for a few seconds when turn on power strips!

That's perfectly NORMAL!
When you turn on the power strip, the PC thinks it's recovering from a power failure. So it powers itself up to check to see how the BIOS power option is set for recovery from a power failure.
If BIOS is set to "Do nothing", PC turns itself off again.
If BIOS is set to "Restart after power failure", it automatically boots without you having to press the power button.
So if you're lazy, you can set BIOS to reboot automatically after power failures. And when you turn the power strip on, the PC boots and you won't have to press the power button.

Hello,

I'm new to this forum.

I have a 100GB internal HDD. I have two external drives which are a 160GB, and a 2TB. I don't know what I'm doing to swap out the drives to give me a larger space. I don't have a screw driver, or tools either, and my PC is very small, so I would have a difficult time swapping out the drives. I don't know how to word my questions. Would it be possible to blank out my internal drive, and then use my external drive for what I would normally an internal for, but in this case it would be external? Or another way to look at is could I trick my external by thinking it's internal even though it's not? Or what are some other ways that I might be able to get that larger drive? I have to admit I'm not good at all with opening up my PC. I saw the inside when someone took off the cover, and where the drive goes it compact which is really small area to work, and tight.

Thank you if someone could reply back!

A:Is it possible to turn an external HDD into an OS?

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

You can't install the operating system to a drive that that appears as removable to Windows 7 e.g. a USB hard drive.

You may get away with using an eSata drive if it can be configured so that it appears as an internal drive, but my knowledge doesn't extend any further than that.

You would also take a performance hit.

Without the tools and the confidence to do the job yourself, you'd be far better to get your local repair technician to do the job for you, i.e. install a bigger internal hard drive.

Ad-Hoc requires that you restart the session each time.

Connectify pro has an auto start option that does this but it's a paid version, connectify lite is free but I'm not sure if has auto start.

Processor: Intel Celeron D Processor 340, 2.93 GHZ, 256K L2 Cache, 533 MHZ FSB
Power Supply Unit: Bestec Model: ATX-250-12E REV: P7
Motherboard: I can't tell, but it appears to be an Intel motherboard by the number of Intel labels on it
RAM: 512 MB DDR SD originally, added 1 GB a couple of months ago
Let me know if you need anything else...

Yesterday, I got home from shopping around 1PM, and I tried to start the computer. I pushed the power button, and nothing happened. I checked all of the cords, and they were all plugged in. Not knowing what else to do, I opened up the case to see if there was something obviously wrong. The only thing that I noticed (other than a bunch of dust) was that the power supply unit was still hot. I shut the computer down about 5 hours earlier after about 20 minutes of use, so it seemed strange that the power supply was still hot. I unplugged the computer just in case there was some sort of fire hazard.

At this point, I called a friend who suggested that the problem might be with the motherboard or the power supply unit.

A few hours later, I plugged it back in to try to get it to work. As soon as I plugged it in, the entire unit suddenly started "running" by itsel... Read more

I would suspect that the Power Supply Unit (PSU) is going south. If you have a spare one laying around, install it and see if the problem goes away.
You can buy a new, better PSU from Newegg for about $40.00. I have used a Thermaltake 430 watt in one of my machines for some time now and it works well.
You will have to check the size of your PSU to be sure a new one will fit into the eMachine.
Here's the page with that PSU on it. It's the last one on the list.

Do I need to buy a enclosure and remove the HD from the old external hard drive? I hope its only a power issue... Thanks

This is driving me crazy. My HP has Windows 7 and everytime it connects to the internet (wireless connection) Windows Live Messenger opens down in the left hand corner taskbar near the start menu. I close it, and fifteen minutes later it will open again.
I opened the options and unchecked the boxes pretaining to 'Run Windows Live Messenger when windows starts' but it still repeatedly opens. I use hotmail, but i really have no use for Messenger. The program is not listed under add/remove programs. Someone please help me turn this thing off.

A:Solved: Windows Live Messenger-TURN IT OFF TURN IT OFF!

It should be listed in Programs & Features under Windows Live Messenger or Windows Live Essentials. If you still can't find it listed then go to get.live.com and re-download the installer, reinstall it, then uninstall it.

I can't turn my computer on. The fans and lights turn on for a second and then turn off. a few seconds later they'll turn back on and then turn back off. I've had this computer for 4+ months now, i built it myself. it recently started doing this but i'd just turn off the PSU (Power Supply Unit) and turn it back on and it woould fix it. now it doesnt fix it anymore. i've re-slotted the RAM (Random Access Memory) and pushed it in firmly, but that hasn't done anything. i've tried different power outlets and pushed everything into the MOBO (Motherboard), i havent messed around with CPU (Processor) because that's just a pain in the a**... i was wondering if there was anything else i could do before having to take it into a local repair shop, lol.

as for my computer specs

CPU (Processor): Fx-6300 AMD
GPU: R9-270x AMD
RAM (Random Access Memory): 8GB Ballistix sport
MOBO (Motherboard): ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0
PSU (Power Supply Unit): Corsair X500 w 80+
Case: Rosewill GALAXY

thanks

A:Fans turn on, lights blink and then turn off/on repeatedly.

First, I would unplug everything that isn't necessary. Everything external except for the keyboard and monitor. Internally, just leave the CPU, RAM and video card installed. See if it turns on. If not, you might try and test the power button. Disconnect the power button from the mobo. If the pin headers allow for it, use the reset button as the power button. If not, you can use a flat head screwdriver to power on the computer (cross the two pins for the power button with the blade of the screwdriver). If you do this, just be very careful. Touch only the power button pins and nothing else! You could easily damage components by touching the screwdriver to the wrong thing.

Some motherboards have a power button right on the board that you can press to power on the computer. I looked at a pic of your board and didn't notice one.

If that doesn't do it, plug the power button back in. You might try and play around with the RAM. I don't know if you have 2 or 4 sticks of RAM, but try and boot the computer with only one stick of RAM at a time. If there's a bad stick, you'll find it through this process of elimination.

If none of the above works, then it might be a bad PSU.

How old is the computer, what was the last change you made to the computer and when you last shut it down did it shut down correctly?

Hello Folks,

I'm not sure if my issue is with hardware (possibly MB?) or graphics card, so please forgive me if I've posted in the wrong section. The first problem I was having was random blue screens of death that displayed graphic card driver issues. I was able to remedy that by updating my graphic drivers and have not had an issue since.

However, ever since then I have been running into another hardware or graphics-related issue that is random and completely stumping me. What is happening is, I will be on my computer, leave and turn my monitor off, and (randomly) when I come back to use my computer again, when I turn on the monitor there is no signal and a black screen (e.g. when I turn my monitor on my desktop will pop up and the light on my monitor will turn blue, when it doesn't turn on there will be a black screen and the light on the monitor stays yellow as if it is idle). I have tried swapping out the monitor to see if that was the issue and the same problem persists, so it does not appear to be my monitor or VGA cables.

The only way I can temporarily fix this issue is to reboot/restart my computer and viola! The monitor works again and I can see everything. This issue is very random. Sometimes I can go weeks without an incident, other times this is happening a couple times a week. I honestly don't know if it's my motherboard or video card or what. My PC isn't overheating, I'm not overclocking, and all of my drivers are updated.

I'm not sure what... Read more

Hi All,

I am using Windows 8.1 and had to refresh my computer as I was experiencing some problems. Everything seemed to be normal so I started slowly installing the programs I had before. Now a few days after, I find that my wireless device is Off and Flight Mode is On. I have been in settings but the relevant switches are disabled.
Can anybody tell me how to fix this please ? I really don't know how it happened. Can it be that my laptop is still infected ?

Thanks,
Robert

Is there a physical switch on your laptop for wireless? Often on the edges of your laptop... easy to miss.

Wife updated Norton twice and had two Norton Firewalls and Windows Firewalls running together. Paid twice for the 2 updates. Removed Norton Completely and then re-installed Norton 360 Security Version 5, but am still unable to turn off Windows Firewall under Windows XP Pro and also cannot turn on Automatic updates, getting message "we're Sorry, the Security Center could NOT change your Automatic Windows Update setting. To try changing these settings, go to SYSTEM in Control Panel. On the Automatic Updates Tab, select AUTOMATIC (recommended) and then click OK. None of this works, then tried using an app to reset Security Settings and that didn't work either. Any suggestions on what I try next. I would like to reinstall Norton 360 Internet Security Version 5, I know there are those out there that hate Norton and the overhead that comes with it, but over the years I've gotten used to it and I like it very much. Thank you, PhotoRay

I just put together my first computer 6 months ago. It abruply shutdow in the middle of writing a paper for school. I couldn't turn it back on right away. after trying a few times, it turned on. All the fans are working even the fan on the power supply, the motherboards lights are on. My graphic card in on the motherboard. I think it might be my power supply because when I first put it together I didn't plug in the smaller power connection to the motherboard and the same thing is happening, black screen. It's like my computer isn't giving my monitor any feed. I will have more info when I get home. I can't get in to bios or safe mode.

Hello Microsoft team,
We need for an application to unplug and replug usb3 - not physically but with a program.
We checked a lot on the internet but did not find answer how to do it in windows 8.1 pro (in c++).
We know that hibernation creates something alike, but how can we only turn down the power of usb3 and return the power back on back via program (in c++).
Thank you for your help.

Running Windows Vista Ultimate.

Display turns off after about fifteen minutes regardless of whether I am actively using the computer or not. The only way to turn the display back on is to close and then open the lid. This disconnets me from AOL, so I have to sign back on again, and if I was emailing, I might lose my current email.

Under Power Options, I have 'Turn off the display' set to Never for both On Battery and Plugged in. Under 'Put the computer to sleep' I have both On battery and Plugged in set to never. Nonetheless, the display still shuts off while I am working.

What do I need to do to prevent the display from turning off at odd intervals?

A:Vista Ultimate x64: turn off display, will not turn back on

sounds like your display drivers are crashing.

Do not rely on windows update drivers - go to graphics chipset manufacturer website and get latest drivers

So I have already tried the solutions such as boot up the pc and press shift and such to get a menu and then download somthing on a usb and get into an administrator account. The Administration account I can at least log onto as it's not password protected but I still can't turn on Wi-Fi which basically defeats my whole purpose of using the computer as I use it for gaming. So regarding me not being able to log into my actual account, I've tried resetting my password multiple times without success. I think it's due to the fact that I am not able to connect to any Wi-Fi spots (which I assume is because of safe mode which I can't turn off for some reason) And that brings me to my next point, of I can't connect to Wi-Fi die to safe mode. I have tried to turn off safe mode in the settings but when I press the button for it to turn off it slides back over to the on side. Please let me know if you have any other solutions that I have not tried yet, Thanks !

I have an IBM Thinkpad T40p. It has an ATI Mobility Fire GL 9000 and a built-in 1400x1050 display. I have it hooked up to an external monitor on a docking station. When the screen is set to 1400x1050, the image on the external monitor pans with the movement of the mouse. I know the monitor is capable of up to 1600x1200 and that is listed in one of the modes. I tried adding a 1400x1050 mode with an ini file and that didn't work. I might not have done it right or the hardware (or the driver) below the level of the ini file is actually reading the monitor and the monitor is reporting back it's modes. Those modes include 1280x1024 and 1600x1200 but not 1400x1050. So it decides to pan the 1400x1040 image on the monitor in 1280x1024 mode.

Is there a way to turn this panning off? Will the monitor actually display a 1400x1050 image?

A:How to turn off pan on external monitor on IBM Thinkpad?

Very few standard monitors will display anything between 1280 and 1600. Maybe one of the newer widescreen TFT's will do it.

Your best bet is probably to change your screensettings to something your external monitor can display when using it.

Hello, I recently formated my computer and now I'm having a recording problem. I'm a DJ and use the mic input to record my mixes.

The problem is, that when recording both the "plugged in/external"mic and internal mic input sound. This causes distortion and I only want to use the plugged in mic, not the internal mic

I have tried to work the problem myself but the only way to stop the internal mic working is to mute the mic, but this makes it that my plugged in microphone is no longer working as well.

I'm not sure if it matters but I'm using Windows 7 65 bit ultimate. And I use a Sony Vaio Laptop. The sound card is RealTech High Definition.

Thank you for your help,
Beni

A:Can't turn internal mic off, and keep external mic/plugged in mic on

I think you may need to get the Sony manual for your laptop.

It should tell you how to turn just the onboard off.

It appears Windows just recognizes one but two mics are live thus the distortion from both.
My guess is that a third party software controls the internal mic on/off as they usually do with the web camera.

Mike
