HELP...Lenovo G550 won't stay connected

Q: HELP...Lenovo G550 won't stay connected

HELP....I have a Lenovo G550 that is running Windows7 and has been for several months! Anyway, it will connect to the internet via wireless, but it only stays connected for a few minutes. I have other computers in the house and they remain connected, so that leads me to believe it's not the router.

Thus far I've done a few odds and ends suggested on other sites to eliminate my problem, like taking the battery out for 30 minutes, changing the power setting....I ran spybot to see if there was some bug lurking around and none of that helped.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: HELP...Lenovo G550 won't stay connected

How does it work with an ethernet connection?

Do you have the latest wireless driver from the external adapter manufacturer's web site or Lenova's site if an integrated adapter?

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector.

HI all, I have a lenovo laptop that is almost exactly a year old and it WILL NOT stay connected to the internet neither by wifi nor LAN. It will connect sometimes for 10 mins, sometimes for ten seconds. I can turn the computer off, restart it, close all other programs, diagnose connection, disable and restart adapters, nothing works for very long. I dont believe it is the internet as my Xbox, my desktop and my phone all connect fine through both wireless and wired connections. There are also two other laptops on the house that connect just fine (not windows 7 machines tho) my desktop is also windows 7 and sporadically has this problem as well. I have tried going to barnes and noble and starbucks to try different internet and still the same thing happens. Very Frustrating, please help if you can

I hope someone can help me with this. I work from home (office is 70 miles away), and my Lenovo T420 Win7 will not stay connected via WiFi to my Verizon MI424WR ver I router. I had this problem with my old router (MI242WR rev E), and I was able to fix it by turning off the Power Management option to "power off to save power" My Lenovo is using Centrino Advanced-N 6205 Wifi chip. It reads as "working properly".

It seem obvious that there is an issue between the Lenovo and the new MI424. I have 10 other devices connecting to the MI424 without a problem. I have shut down devices to ensure that their is not an over burdening the AP issue.

Specifically, the Lenovo successfully pairs with the MI424, tries to establish an Internet connection, fails, and drops the connection (or the router does - I assume it is the laptop.) It's worked great for about 4 hours this am, then it quit working. I:

- shutdown the laptop, pulled power and battery
- shut off the network, pulled the plug and let it sit for a while
- restarted everything and the issue will not go away

It works fine @ work with a Cisco Network.

My company uses some McAfee SW for laptop security. Since I was blissfully working for hours and this just started up, I do not think that has anything to do with it. But who knows? Any ideas?

A:Work Lenovo Laptop will not stay connected on my Home Network

OK, I just thought of something. The problem started at the same time I powered up my wife's new iPad4. So, after turning off the iPad 4, I was able to log on. Since I completely bounced the network (unplugged and left unplugged the MI242WR), I would think that would release all the IP addresses in the router. I am back to work, and afraid to turn the iPad back on.

I want to do a clean install and replace the pre-installed Vista with Windows 7. I see that the Lenovo G550 download page has drivers for Windows 7, but where is the pre-installed software, like Veriface, camera software, and all other pre-installed Lenovo software? I looked at all OS options for the G550 on the download page, and NONE of them had the G550 laptop software, all they had for each OS option was only  the drivers. I understand that I can make a recovery DVD, but as I understand  it, it will return the system to the factory fresh state (all pre-installed programs installed, but also with the factory installed VISTA  - yuck!). I didn't see any option to only re-install the  Lenovo software without also re-installing the OS. When I look at the download pages for other Lenovo  laptops, I see that they have drivers AND SOFTWARE, but the G550 has no software except for the drivers. Since the G550 came with no software disks, and there doesn't seem to be any of the software online, how exactly does one do a clean installation of an operating system, and then re-install the Lenovo software, on a G550? I was able to find downloads of programs like Veriface on the Lenovo site for different laptop models, but unfortunately those were much older software versions, and for a different Operating system. Why can't Lenovo post all of the software online? If they aren't going to provide the software on DVD... Read more

A:Where is the software for the Lenovo G550???

A week later and still no software? Come on Lenovo, I looked through the forums and saw that I wasn't the only one looking for the downloads. The only thing I can find is older Veriface software for G530s, and that is 32 bit ( I need 64 bit) G550 owners need the software downloads for Veriface, EasyCapture and whatever else you installed on the machine. Why did Lenovo not provide reinstallation DVDs with the computer? Since this wasn't done, then you should at least provide us with download links for this software. There are a lot of folks waiting to upgrade to Windows 7, and they would like to be able to use their built-in webcams after a clean install of Windows 7. DELL provides both reinstallation Disks AND  download links; why is Lenovo incapable of doing the same?

The internet access WIFI WAN(Miniport) drivers crashed. I need to replace them. Somewhere on the Lenovo website I thought I saw advice that stated there is disk that can be purchased to replace the old drivers. Is this true? What is the name of the product? The service center in my area stated that there is no product, and that I needed to pay them for installation plus the product. Sounds a little off.... If there is a product I can purchase to restore the seven (7) drivers, as I cannot access the internet from my computer at it's location and must go to a public computer. Hello, I bought my Lenovo G550 model 20023 around 4 years ago. When I recieved the laptop there was not any operating system on it and the seller told me that this model does not have one. But now, after years!, by accident I came across this link that shows all the G550 series have windows OS preinstalled on them. My CPU is Intel pentium T4400 with 2 DDR3 gigabte of RAM. My hard disk is 250 GB. I could not find exactly a g550 laptop with these specifications in that link, but there are two models with the same CPU. Does my laptop have a windows os? If yes, can I take it back by lenovo company?

A:Lenovo G550 Model 20023 OS

Hi yashar2014, welcome to the forums,

the odf you linked to only contains models manufactured for the US market, I don't believe there was a document of this type for systems sold on the European market at the time.    You can tell they are US systems by the "U" on the end of the type / model numbers e.g. 2958-2CU.

Do you have a similar 7 digit type and model number on your system or any other identifying numbers except the serial number?  Do you have the Lenovo order number for the system?   I'm pretty sure there were versions of the G550 on sale in Europe with DOS preinstalled, no Windows OS.

My 3ys old Lenovo G550 has stopped accepting power from the power jack. It's been fluffy for a while and has needed massaging to work, but now it's game over. It's doesn't with/without the battery. Been surfing around and partly concluded that it's a weak point in this design. Was on the Lenovo support today, and it will be too expensive to let them work the problem. Also learned that the power jack comes as a pigtail that can be purchased, but the laptop needs a total tear-apart to exchange the cable. Have not been able to find instructions/videos showing the needed tricks. Anyone in here that can help, or has experience with the same issue?

A:Lenovo G550 power issue

Sorry to hear this as I own a G550. My first thought after receiving and plugging power cord into it first time " what a cheesy weak and wimpy feel it had" - I've been waiting for it to crater ever since. Frankly surprised it has lasted this long. However, when it does, I'll not hesitate to tear that sucker apart to attempt a fix.

Good luck on getting it working. If you do find a maintenance manual, please do share.

Hello, i got this little problem with my G550 (model 20023). I decided to do some memory upgrade and bought Corsair 2x4GB MacMemory (CMSA8GX3M2A1066C7). Those modules are 1066 MHz and should be supported by GM45 onboard, and 1,5v - same as the stock Hynix 1GB+2GB modules (1GB is HMT112S6BFR6C). The problem is that when i place two new 4GB modules the laptop powers on, lights are on, HDD probably spinning, but screen stays black When i try only one 4GB module everything is working fine, with old 2GB + new 4GB it works probably fine, BIOS and W7 recognizes 6GB as it should. Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

So I had one of those TDSS Google Redirect virus things. It wasn't too much of a problem but it was irritating. Anti-virus things would automatically close a few seconds after I started any scan. So I figured that it would be much easier to just put it back to factory settings (I didn't have much saved any way).

So after the factory reset, during the Windows 7 Installation the mouse wasn't moving. Then I plugged in my USB mouse in and it started moving. I don't have a USB Keyboard so I used the on screen keyboard to fill out the rest. However when I try to use the inbuilt Keyboard and Touchpad they don't respond. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for both, I have updated the BIOS, I've tried using function and F8 all to no avail.

The keyboard works in the BIOS (I can select Safe Mode, etc) but not in Safe Mode or actual Windows.

BTW the laptop is Lenovo G550 if that helps anyone.

Can someone please help? Thanks!

HiI having a problem with the bluetooth on my Lenovo G550 serial number **** laptop. It came with  in-built Bluetooth software and drivers. It was working perfectly fine for several months. But, then recently a problem cropped up. Now, when I click the Bluetooth icon, click the adaptor on and then click 'Show Bluetooth devices', nothing really happens. The adaptor turns on and then after clicking 'Show Bluetooth devices, the search for locating bluetooth devices continues but no device is located. ( & this is when the bluetooth on my samsung mobile has been turned on).Earlier, it could easily located my cellphone. Similarly , if I try to browse files on my laptop by using the bluetooth on my mobilephone even then it doesn't work. I just get a message on the cellphone ie.  'connection lost'.I have carried several scans on my PC in past few days and the files always come out as clean so that's not a problem.I can't understand why I can't browse files when the bluetooth on both the laptop and mobile are switched on and both the devices are on discoverable mode.
Also, my hot key combination Fn + F5 does not show wireless settings menu now. However, it had been working fine for several months so this is a recent problem.

I have been trying to fix a friends Lenovo G550 running Windows 7 Home Premium. The laptop won't boot and gives BSOD error "STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0x887925C8, 0x88792734 ...)" the codes in brackets change each time. It then does a crash dump and reboots.

There has been no new hardware or programs installed recently (apparently).

These are the steps I have taken:
Boot in all versions of Safe Mode (same BSOD).
Boot to Last Known Good Config (same BSOD).
Windows Startup Repair (can't solve problem reboots to BSOD).
Windows Restore (can't restore).
Windows Memory Diag (no problem found).
Removed one stick of RAM boot (BSOD), replace and remove other stick of RAM boot (BSOD).
Remove and reseat HDD.

My instinct tells me it is a HDD fault. Does anyone have any other suggestions or is the next reasonable step to buy a replacement HDD and reinstall Windows?

Thanks in advance.

A:Lenovo G550 Keyboard & Mouse not working after Factory Recovery.

What exactly isn't working? The laptop keyboard/trackpad, or an external keyboard and mouse?

If it's the internal, you may need to get the drivers from the laptop manufacturer. If it's the external, it could be USB drivers.

Have you checked Device Manager? Are there any devices with yellow ! ...if so, those devices need drivers installed.

Good day all I have installed Windows 10 Pro 64-bit on an old Lenovo G550. It used to work well on Windows 7, but now I cannot install or update the display drivers in order to connect an external display (LG 49" TV) at 1920 x 1080. Windows installed its own useless drivers that obtains at least 1366 x 768 on both the laptop and the TV when displays are duplicated. Then the highest I can go is 1366 x 768. When I select "Show only on 2" (which is essentially what I want to do), it goes down to an even worse display resolution, but this also disables the Resolution drop-down.  I have downloaded every version of drivers know to God and man from Lenovo's and other sites, but all of them tells me: "This computer does not meet the minimum requirement for installing software." I have deleted the driver and reinstalled via "Scan for hardward changes" as well. I have done a Windows update as well. I have no idea what to do next. How do I fix this stupid problem? Please help me. Thank you in advance.Kind regardsRenier

Hi guys. Got this problem. Let me explain. About a week ago I was on the net using IE7 when it just stopped communicating. All I kept getting page not available. So I tried restarting DNS client service. It worked. Then next day it went again, so tried DNS again to no avail. (I may not be a computer wiz but I'm not completely computer illiterate).

Now; I have XP Pro and BT HomeHub plus Kaspersky Internet Security 7, so my next port of call was to try BT Desktop Help. But alas it told me it needed Macromedia 8, which I know I have.

So now, the only way to get back on the net is to reboot the computer using last known good configuration.

PLEASE! can anybody help. Maybe it's just a good general maintenance cleanup that's required.

I have succesfully connected in the past, by simply unplugging the adapter, and plugging it back in. that no longer helps, and i want to permanately fix this. ya'll helped me get video on my ipod, i hope you can help with this. thanks

Hi,
I am having a problem staying connecting to the internet. I have my modem connected to a d-link wireless router. We have 2 notebooks in the house that are running wireless. We also haVE 1 desktop computer that we don't use and it is the one I set up the router on. I lose connection every 10 minutes my status on our notebooks say we are still connected, I have to go and unplug the modem and replug it in to get it to work. I got a new modem and was told by a technician it is fine and the problem is my wireless connection. Any help would be appreciated. I have tried to repair my connection but nothing works.

Thanks,
Kyta

When I changed to Windows 7 and connected to the internet, every now and then, it asked whether I wanted to stay connected. I disabled this message, but now I would like to get it back. Does anybody know how to do this?

A:Do you wish to stay connected?

Hello,

Please try this: Go to System Preferences=> Network, then choose your Network connection(the problematic one). Click on the PPPoE tab, then click on PPPoE Options button near the bottom there should be you see 2 check boxes, uncheck both.

Did it work? Please let us know.

A:Can't Stay Connected

Shueisha,

It would help us a great deal if you told us what type of connection you use since it happens on both browsers. Do you use dialup, DSL, Cable, Satellite etc? Knowing your connection type will help greatly. Also have you checked with your ISP to discuss this with them to see if there are known issues they are aware of?

is there a test to see if the modem is failing? I am working on a 4 year old gateway comp using dial-up with wXP. When we checked with the isp he checked the connection and it started with 50kbps then in a few minutes it would go down to 28kbps then disconnect. and we cant seem to get it to stay connected. is there any suggestions on what to test and how to do it?

not sure if this XP related or not. But when I get connected to AOL is not very long until I keep getting kicked off and get a window asking me to reconnect. I am using XP Home with AOL 9.0. If anyone has a solution, please lmk.

BTW, yes I already know AOL sucks, but I haven't figured out whay other internet access to use yet. Anyone know if Walmart Connect is any good. I was thinking about using them, since they setup is the same as AOL and it is only $10 a month. lmk.

I have a wireless netgear router. Yesterday i put password protection on it and now it won't stay connected to the internet. It worked fine running as an open connection. Some help as to why this is happening would be great. thanks.

A:can't stay connected

Putting a password on it would have no effect on the operation. If you take the password back off, you should be able to verify that.
