Preferred Solution: Motherboard wires ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I just built my first computer and i plugged the 4 pin floppy connector that comes out of the power supply into the system fan spot and it was for the floppy drive. but i dont have a floppy drive but the wire coming from the power supply was supposed to go to the floppy drive but for some reason i plugged it into the system fan spot and i was woundering if doing that would short out the motherboard and cpu? the computer comes on but then shuts off after like 1min and nothing comes up on the monitor.

A:Connecting wires to motherboard

Welcome to TS
If I got this right:
You plugging a 4 pin mini molex (used to power a floppy)into a three pin/post system fan port on the motherboard?
"some reason i plugged it into the system fan spot"
Have you seen a bright light and blue smoke yet?
Un-plug it see what happens...

Hi,

I am putting a water coolant system in to my computer and i had to go ahead and upgrade the case as well to make room for the Corsair H100.

My problem is that, like an idiot, I wasn't paying attention to a specific group of wires that i disconnected when removing my old motherboard and now i do not know where the cables for my new case connect to on the motherboard. The cluster of cabling i disconnected was coming from the case itself (the old case)

The cables for my case, which is a Phantom 410, that i am having a problem with are labeled as follows:

H.D.D LED
POWER SW (Pwr switch, i'm sure?)
RESET SW
+P LED and -P LED (each of these are only a 1 pin cable)
HD Audio

The place where i think it goes is labeled like this:

+MSG- +PW- +SPEAK-

+HD- -RES+ -CI+ +PWR LED-
To give u an idea of what i did so far I put the negative cable of the Reset SW where it goes on the -RES+ then put the + where positive goes. I did this until i got stumped no knowing where to put the -P LED and +P LED cables. As well as which spot to put the HD Audio cable at. And i think the "-CI+" is irrelevant because i have no cable that fits in the spot. At least none of the cables from the case.

There are other cables as well but i think those are just fans and i can figure them out... if they're suppose to connect a certain way, then a heads up would be grateful.

As far as the HD Audio cable from the case goe... Read more

A:Where do wires from case connect to on my motherboard?

here is the link to the manual for my motherboard....

Here is the link to the manual for my case

Sorry for the long explanation but i didn't know how to simplify it haha.

Reading that manual i am 99 percent sure i got everything hooked up right. Negative to negative, etc.

BUT....

I have 2 cables and i dont know where they go. The first is +P LED which has a connector for 1 pin only. And then i have its friend, -P LED... There is a spot that sais LED- on the board, so thats a given. But where do i put the positive (+P LED) cable? On the pin above or to the left of where i put the negative?

Thanks again.

(Just posting this here so people in the future can find it.) I replaced my motherboard and just wanted to leave this here for future reference to some poor soul who has to do the same.
If you replace the motherboard on your Dell Studio XPS 8000, (service tag 3L8DHK1) and you need a new motherboard you can use an INTEL DQ57TM, it's compatible and I did a successful transplant. Your processor is an INTEL Core-i5 750 CPU 2.67GHZ it uses a SOCKET LGA1156. It uses DDR3 memory.
Once you take out your old motherboard and disconnect all those usb and audio wires and the power button wires. To hook up your USB front jacks, audio jacks etc.... here's which blocks go where:
Wires from the audio jacks and usb ports go into these colored block connectors, and those connectors get plugged into those little rows of pins/jumpers called Internal Headers. Every motherboard manual tells you about them. Grab the manual for your new motherboard and it'll tell you where your audio1, usb1, usb2, usb3, usb4 Header connectors are they look like 2 rows and 5 collumns of short little pins. (They almost always have 1 or 2 pins missing on purpose.)
the wires leading to a YELLOW BLOCK gets plugged into the audio1 header on your new motherboard, it's for audio jacks on top of the computer
wires with the WHITE BLOCK gets plugged into the usb3 headers on your motherboard (they are for the usb jacks on the very top of the computer tower)
wires with the GREEN BLOCK gets plugged into ... Read more

Hi all,

Just a small question im looking to add a fan to my comp to exhaust the heat out, the only fan i can get has 1 red and 1 black wire (about 20cm long) coming out of it, im at ends on how i would install it in the computer as i heard that fans come with 3 pin connectors or something that simply you plug into the motherboard.

Thanks for any help.

A:Fan- with 2 wires?

A standard fan just has the power lead (red and black), others are designed to plug on to the board and as such can be either controlled or monitored by the motherboard, these can have 3 wires.

To connect a standard 2 pin plug you can either feed it directly from one of the molex plugs using an adaptor cable or see if your board has a 2 pin power socket.

Im no expert in modding and cooling, this is based on general use of a PC.

I got AT&T Dryloop Internet a few months ago, but about 3 weeks ago my Internet suddenly stopped working. I found out later that the cord that runs under the house had been cut all the way through in a couple places; it's like someone intentionally crawled under there and cut them. Now I'm faced w/ a huge bill to get an AT&T repair person to fix it. If anyone could give me some advice on what to do or alternatives, that would be great.

A:Help! My Wires Have Been Cut

like any DSL, "dry loop" (which just means there is no voice line on the phone service) is run over copper wire. In homes, this is usually insulated and shielded wire with four interior wires called "two pair," again typically with red, green, yellow, and black. Chances are you are using the red and green. If the colors don't match, don't worry. Just make sure you connect the same wires to the same terminals.

Go to Radio Shack or your local hardware store and get an inline connector for outdoor use. Simply connect one color from one side of the cut to the same color on the other side of the cut, and all should be well.

You can splice the wires directly, but that could cause more line noise than you want.

Alternatively, just re-wire the connection from your phone box to the wall. Red to red, green to green.

Remember that phone wires are "hot" and run at low voltage, so if you corss live wires you will get a but of a wake up call -- nothing big and sure as heck not like 120V current, but stronger than putting your tongue on a nine volt.

While you are at the hardware store, you can buy a wire tester that plugs into the jack and tells you if you have the wires hooked up correctly or not. Just don't plug anything into the jack until it tests positively, and you are good to go. Crossing phone wires is not by any means the end of the world, and nothing will happen while you are testing.

If this is possible, how do I go about doing this?

Normally to connect 2 network devices, you'll need to use a crossover cable. Some network devices have uplink ports that contain an internal crossover allowing a standard patch cable to work. You may want to try creating a crossover cable and see if that solves your issue.

Check this HOWTO(littlewhitedog.com) on how to make crossover cables.

Okay I will detail this fully.. Yesterday I had a wireless-g connection from my basement to my bedroom. Today I took 100ft. of Cat5e and ran it from an internet slot on my wireless router to my PC's ethernet port..

However the PC upstairs doesn't detect the signal. My router does have a green light on the internet slot that I plugged the cable into but I must be missing something on my upstairs PC. I installed my onboard nVidia ethernet driver but still don't get a connection. Maybe there's something I don't know how to do regarding a wireless router's Wired connections, does the PC need the routers software installed or something?

thats how i crimped em.. both sides of the wire

oh and i went to CMD.. ran IPCONFIG /release, then IPCONFIG /renew

i got this on the renew step..

Also my only network connections listed is the onboard ethernet.. and it shows that I have a 100Mbps connection through the wire so my wireless connection is gone.. but I still cannot access the internet..

Hello everyone! So I have an HP Notebook g2 and recently the part of the metal that connects the monitor part towards the keyboard and everything else was destroyed. There is no point in trying the wires randomly. You will end up with a fried USB device.

Look up the pinout of the USB header for your motherboard that will tell you what signal goes to what pin. It should be somewhere in the manual or on the manufacturers website.

There's probably quite a few here at TSG with that problem. I purchased a good pair of reading glasses, a decent magnifying glass, & a small but very bright LED flashlight. It also helps if you have good natural light from a window. I often use the kitchen counter as a work area. Plenty of natural & artificial light available.

Having a patient helper to assist with holding a light & has younger eyes is a plus.

Getting a respectable blowup MB pic will probably require considerable Google searching.

title says it all. i was messing around with electric sheep the screen saver application and i had been hearing my second hdd shutting off and turning back on which used to happen to me like 8 months ago but I hadnt seen it since then. So the hard drive shut off and the front led's started to flicker and my temp gauge went blank. my current window said (not responding) and I started to smell the worst smell ever. burning electronics

I looked to the open side of my computer the left side and saw smoke barreling out so i immediately pulled the power cord out. after the smoke cleared I panic'd and when through everything i thought could be wrong.

I unplugged the hard drive and thought it might be that since I had trouble with it before. I unplugged the dvd drives just to be on the safe side and causiously turned it back on 5 hours later and again, it began to load windows xp but a few seconds later I smelt the smoke again and pulled it back out.

I did notice that one of the issues was the flickering led on the front of my computer so i opened the panel and examined the exposed cables on the front which were hot to the touch which isnt normal. upon taking the back panel of my case off I noticed the wire leading to the front led was all bubbly and fried. the cord had soldered itself to 3 other wires (one being the temp gauge).

A:Smoking wires

It sounds like your power supply is faulty. Chances are really good with that much voltage/current going through the board, enough to melt a wire coming off the LED header, that your board is toast as well. You might get lucky, though. I've seen a power supply melt it's wires (well, they actually caught fire) and the motherboard survived.

I have a block of office where by mistake the ethernet cables where cut by the construction guys.

However, on the side of the HP switch (in our server room) the wires are still connected - since we don't know exactly which wire terminates where.

Does that cause any kind of issue or represent any risk?

Thanks

A:Ethernet Wires Cut

As long as you don't mix power or telephone cables with the cut wires, there's no significant risk. Time to start fixing cables.

Take a look at this image

I have two similar headsets like these.

Headset A: I play a game that requires for me to hear where a gun shot is being fired from so I can't use this one. NO malfunction

Headset B: Incoming audio I can't hear because the wire for it got messed up somehow

Solution: Is it possible for me to cut the INCOMING AUDIO wire "green" I think, on both Headsets, strip them down from the black layer, and then tie the wires together? I've heard of people doing this but wasn't sure.

A:Connecting Wires

You could probably solder them together. But keep in mind inside the green wire there is more than one wire.

Hey

I figured out how to make my fans go slower by cutting yellow and black and leaving red, then leaving the black disconnected and connecting the black to the yellow from fan to connector.
Is it possible to make it go even slower?

Second thing is I also have a 2 pin fan, is it possible to mod that as well to go slower?

A:Modding wires on fan

A 120ohm resistor will slow a fan down enough to make it almost silent!!

Hi. I recently opened up my PC to check on some connections, and in order to get at them I took out my TV tuner card. I discovered, much to my amazement and shock, that the Cable TV coaxial cable was "buzzing". It seemed to be vibrating slightly, and I felt a tingling sensation on my finger, as if there were some electric current running through the cable that was strong enough to be very noticable, but not dangerous. This was on the outer sleeve. I took the cable by the plastic coating to try to put it back on the TV tuner's jack, and the inner "spike" made a small spark when it touched the tuner's jack. Now, I know that there is obviously some current running through a cable wire to transmit the picture, but I have NEVER seen a wire with this much electricity, and am pretty "freaked out". I'd like to know what this could mean, and what to do about it. Thanks!

A:Buzzing wires, help please!

This is a symptom of an improperly grounded cable system. My advice to you is to contact your cable provider and get it check into.

Your speaker cables should be colour-coded to correspond with their respective phono sockets.

I'm trying to help, but your grammar is poor and I can't understand what you're trying to say. I assume you need a repeater or or wireless extender.

Howdy Everyone! Can anyone help me with the pwr led, pwr s/w and Hdd Led wires location. I was checking friends computer which I know the psu is dead and pretty sure motherboard is too. I opened the case just checking all wires and connections. I pulled the wires coming from switch on mobo, I thought it was one plug well I pulled it was three seperated wires pwr led pwr s/w and hdd led. Now not sure how they go back poor me. on board where the wires goes there are lots of pins only a couple are used for the power switch and led. A picture or text would be a big help. Or does it matter where they go? Thanks and Have a great day. Todd

A:T2682 Led/Switchboard Wires

Usually the pins are labeled on the board itself but it can be a little tricky to get them working correctly sometimes. The motherboard's manual should have a diagram of how the wires go. You can probably go to the manufacturer's site and download a .pdf of the manual. I'm guessing that's an eMachines system? They usually have their manuals available for download, try here:

I am thinking of buying these speakers: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=55378.

My issues are mainly with the cable, which is apparently quite short. I also want to wire it all neatly around the room. This would probably mean cutting the cables and putting a new bit in. Would this affect sound quality?

I need to run a CAT5 wire from a router to two other rooms.

After I do the first run, can I use a splitter at that point to make my last connection in the farthest room? Or do I need to run two seperate wires from where the router is to each room.

Thank You

Hey all.

The other day I thought I could smell burning plastic. So I shut down the comp and had a look. The two wires shown below have melted their covering plastic. They go to a front case fan (zalman zm f1 at full speed).

Melted Plastic

The wires come from this connector which comes from an Antec True480(PGB) PSU. These two wires then finish off at a 3 pin male fan connector. This then goes into the 3 pin female fan connector from my zalman zm f1.

Connector

Could anyone please tell me why the plastic has melted. Obviosuly the wire itself is too hot which is melting the plastic, but why is that wire getting too hot? I have only been able to smell burning plastic once. The wires now don't seem hot at all, and the computer and front case fan works fine. But it is bothering me, something must have gone wrong?

In case you need em my specs are

amd athlon xp 2700+ (2.16ghz)
1gb ddr 333 pc2700 ram
msi 6777 mobo socket A
msi 6800gt agp gpu
120gb seagate hdd
dvd rw
dvd rom
antec true480 (pgb - uk version)

Cheers.

A:Melted Plastic On Wires (PSU)

Is the gauge smaller on these than the ones of the fan?
(In fact, what's the gauge of the wires)
How many watts is the Zalman using?
If the contact is poor at one end or the other, the wire is making more resistance, and then heating.
