Preferred Solution: transfering address book/current emails to new ISP?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I have bought a new laptop with Windows 7 installed, and I have put Microsoft Office Professional 2003 onto it. I want to use Outlook as my email program.

I have BT as my ISP, and have gone into BT Broadband Desktop Help to open all necessary files so that I can download them from the old XP machine onto the 7 machine, and everything seems to work fine - Except! I am unable to get my address book downloaded from Outlook express to the new machines Outlook. I have loaded Outlook onto the XP machine, and managed to get the address book into "Contacts" in Outlook, but I can't get the 7 machine to download the address book . I have tried to do it from Outlook and from Outlook Express, but no luck.

The new machine is a Lenovo laptop G570 with an i3 2330M. and windows home premium.

Any Ideas??

I have a question. I just purchased a new computer with XP. I would like to transfer my address book that I use in Outlook Express from the old computer (also XP) to the new. What I did so far was saved the address book from the old computer to an external hard drive, found the address book on the new computer and drageed the saved address book into the file with the new address book. I was expecting a window to pop up asking my if I wanted to replace the current address book with the old, but I did not get that window and I now have two address books in this file and Outlook Express does not recognize the address book I dragged in. How can I transfer this address book into Outlook Express without having to re-enter all the names and address's?

Thanks for any help.

A:transfering address book

On the old computer go into Address Book > File > Export > Address Book (WAB) which will create a .wab file.

Transfer that file to the new computer and go into Address Book > File > Import > Address Book (WAB).

Can anybody tell me how to transfer or save the address book from Outlook express to a floppy disk to transfer to another computer???????????????? I am using windows 2000. thanks for your help jskeen

A:Transfering address book from outlook express

There are two ways you can do this. The first way is to copy and paste your .WAB file from its original location on the first PC to the same location on the second PC. It will be located in a path similar to the one below.

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER_NAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book

Find the file with an extension of .WAB in the path above and copy it to a floppy. Put the floppy into the second PC and browse to the same location above and paste the copied .WAB

Make sure Outlook Express is closed when you copy and paste the address book file. If this method doesn't work you can follow the steps below to export the address book to a Comma Seperated Text file which can be imported by the second PC.
HOW TO EXPORT ADDRESS BOOK

Select Tools --> Address Book from the menu in Outlook Express.

On the address book window Choose File --> Export --> Other Address Book

Select Text File (Comma Separated Values) as the export format.

Click Export.

Select the location you want to export your address book to using the Browse button and give your backup a meaningful name.

Click Next.

Select the fields you want to include in your backup.

Click Finish.

Click OK.
TO IMPORT BACK INTO OUTLOOK EXPRESS

Select Tools --> Address Book from the menu in Outlook Express.

On the address book window select File -->Import --> Other Address Book

Highlight Text File (Comma Separated Values).

Click Import.

Use the Browse button to select... Read more

I have a Dell laptop running windows 98 that failed to fire up due to a missing file.

I had the hard drive copied to my desk top that runs XP. Dell then suggested that i reload the drivers which I did but it would only then run in safe mode. Then they suggested i load up windows again which i did under a new directory.

I've done that and now it runs but I need to get my unsaved messages and files out of outlook express and also my address book details.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks John

Query originally posted on DOS forum but perhaps better aired here:

1. I have found where my email archives reside on my hard disc and want to back them up to a server. The folders are however very large so having done the first copy operation I want to copy "incrementally" or "differentially" in future to save time - just the altered files. Can this be done?

2. I have "exported" my Address Book but I suspect that the file contains just an alphabetical list of contacts. Instead I want to preserve the structure of the subfolders. Can this be done?

Advice appreciated.

The programs don't work. I want to drag the email address over along with the email stored on the d drive but i can't even thought i have spent extensive time searching using "find" "files and folders" seem to locate them. Maybe they no longer exist but if i knew where Outlook (not outlook express) stored them is might be much easier. The import function doesnt seem to do anything.

I’ve actually already transferred the .PST files which I surmise are the address book and the email from the Outlook on the first computer to the Outlook Express on the second computer, but I’m not sure how to tell that these are for sure the address book and email, and how to open or install them. Does it have something to do with File\Import?

I exported my address book from Outook 2003 into the Windows (XP) Address Book. This is great because then I don't have to have Outlook open to view my address book.

However, it isn't linked to my Outlook address book so that whenever I made a change to my addresses in Outlook, it'll reflect in the Windows address book.

I had that set up perfectly in my old computer (Windows 98SE) but can't get it to work in XP.

Any tips or ideas?

But when I place a check mark and try to "insert checked contacts" I go to this address on a blank page: http://us.mc1612.mail.yahoo.com/mc/kioskHandler

I see that this has been asked before but no one had replied and I can't find the answer doing a search.

Can anyone help?

A:Solved: Yahoo email unable to insert address from address book

Concerning my post above: I turned on my older XP computer and I had no problem with inserting an address from the Yahoo! address book.

I compared all my settings in both computers and noticed that I had different settings relating to how pop-ups are handled. XP reminded me that the address book takes the form of a pop-up. On my Vista I had pop-ups opening up (?) in a webpage. That is the page which came up blank. After I have corrected the settings, I no longer have a problem.

It only seems to look at addresses that I have already sent to in the past. How can I get it to read from the address book? If I click on "TO" or "CC" it brings up another window with a list of addresses from my contact list. From there I can have it pull from the list. I would like to be able to do it withot the extra step.

Thanks!

That is how autocomplete works, from used addresses stored in the NK2 file.
This explanation and keyboard shortcut might help you.
Where do Outlook's auto-complete suggestions come from?

In the past I've maintained my address book using the built-in Address Book utility that came with Windows. Once each year, I would import my Address Book (.WAB) file into Outlook 2003/XP. (I don't use Outlook for email.) Then I would use the Mail Merge feature in Word 2003/XP to make and print address labels on standard Avery label sheets to simplify address of my Christmas cards.

Since I'm now using Windows 7, and the familiar Address Book utility is no longer available, how can I print my address labels? I have both Windows Address Book (.WAB) and Comma-Separated Values (.CSV) files that contain my address book data. So, I guess I need to know two things:
Which program or utility (preferably free) can I use to print my address labels.
How do I import my address data into that program?

If it helps, I am already a user of Gmail and Google Drive. Thanks.

A:Solved: Address Label Printing without Windows Address Book

Hi Jim,
Assuming you still have Microsoft Office (any version) you can use the Word mail merge feature and use your .csv file as your data source - no other programs necessary. What version of Office are you using?

Hello All,

Please suggest me is this is a good idea. I have approx. 10 GB of emails stored in my Gmail account. Since Gmail offer only 15 GB of the free space, I had to create a new account and start using it. I see Yahoo Mail! give 1 TB of emails storage? I already have one yahoo account. I have below questions:
How can I transfer emails from Gmail to Yahoo (easy and quick, I already know the MS outlook way - accessing IMAP of both and then transferring from one account to another simply by moving, its time consuming and hangs all time)
Is is okay to transfer to Yahoo! Would I be facing any trouble with it? Like accessing mails. Often seen, yahoo has pathetic user interface and not comfortable to use.
Any other way for email storage, I just wanna free space from my loved Gmail account and continue using it.

Thanks for all help!

I am using winpro2000 and office2000. No network and AOL is my internet provider.

I use to be able to go into word and print an envelope and the address would stay in the drop down. I think one of my kids fooled around with Outlook and now I have to enter addresses in the "new contact" area fields in order to get them to stay. Even then, only the name apprears not the whole address when I select an address from the drop down. I had to import the PAB into outlook to be able to use the previous addresses that use to automatically.

All I want to do is to EASILY print an address on an enveolpe and have it save to the drop down again.

Thanks a bunch,
Vstyner

I know someone told me how to stop e-mail addresses from being added to my address book without my knowledge but my memory isn't what it used to be. Will someone tell me how I can stop every tom dick and harry with something to sell from leaving his address on my book. I now have over twenty addresses I do not recognize and would like to not have to delete them every few months as I have been doing in the past. Thanks for your help.

I see you are keeping details a secret, such as what programs are involved.

If by chance it is Outlook Express, you can try this...
OE->Tools->Options->Send Tab.
Be sure this is unchecked Automatically put people I reply to in my Address Book

But they don't normally appear there if you are not opening the emails and clicking reply. So I am unclear how yours are showing up in an address book?

Also is there any way I can pull the emails that were on the 98 hard drive and put them on the new 2000 hard drive? Where are they housed and where do I move them to?

Would you like to make it you default vcard viewer." I don't know whether to click yes or no. Can anyone help. Also when I go to the address book in Word and I bring up the envelope, and then click on a name that I want to use in the envelope address section, only the name of the person comes up, not the address. Why?

Assuming you're using Outlook Express, did you use OE's File>Import to import the saved address book? If not, try that.

What's the exact name of the file you saved? It should be a .wab file preceeded by your user name. If it's the "wab.exe" file, it's the wrong one and will not contain any addresses.

If it's an email program other than Outlook Express, none of the above applies.

Hi,
I'm going to be getting a new tower shortly and obviously want to learn how to save my address book in a zip then install the address book in my new computer. How do I correctly save it on a disk then when I get my new tower transfer it there. I'll be using Outlook Express. I currently have Window's ME but will be getting Window's XP when I do get around to getting a new tower. Does that make any difference as far as transfering? Also would you suggest Window's XP Home Edition or XP Professional Edition? Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can give me.

p.s. I'll also need to do the same with all my Favorites

To export your address book, open outlook express, and goto file / export / address book.

If you keep losing your address book I would look for a virus or trojan.

Second thing I would do is run the repair utility in either the mail program or run the repair program in IE Explorer.

Here are a few links to check for a virus and trojans.

Moo Soft is a 30 trial version but it works great to check for a trojan and then you can uninstall it.
