I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I want to upgrade my current wifi card, Ralink 3290. I can't seem to get it to work with Linux. Tried with a wifi card from another laptop and everything worked fine. I faced the same problem in Win 7. I can get the Intel 6200 IEEE 802.11n relatively cheaply but I have seen posts of compatibility issues of wifi cards with laptops. So wanted to confirm whether it will work on my system before buying. Thanks and Regards

There is a lot of confusing information about updating my HP Pavilion 17-g134ds WLAN Wifi Card. Looking at the manual it shows my choice of upgrade since this is an AMD computer and no Intel is inside is; Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 M.2 Combo Adapter 792608-005 First I want to know if this will give me a 5MHz signal. Next I need to know if I should concentrate on the HP number 792608-005 when purchasing the WiFi card because there is a different Broadcom numbers associated with the HP number. There is BCM943142YHN - 792608-005. If I search for the BCM43142 then I get a different HP number - 753076-001. I see that there is a physical difference between the two cards. The Broadcom BCM43142 has 2 connector legs and the HP number 79608-005 has 3 connector legs. I have not had the balls to open the computer yet so I do not know what the connector will look like. On this laptop they have made it super difficult to make upgrades and the whole back has to come off and the MB has to be removed to even up grade the RAM. Does anyone know what the WiFi card configuration will look like for the 17-g134ds? Does anyone know if there will be two antennas when I open this up because there is no bluetooth at this time. I assume one antenna is for bluetooth and one is for WiFi. Of course I could be wrong, I am just guessing. Any help would be appreciated. ... Read more
Hi: The Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.0 M.2 Combo Adapter is only a single band wlan card -- 2.4 GHz band only. Any time you see a wireless N card with a suffix ending in b/g/n, that means it is a single band (2.4 Ghz) card. Dual band wireless N cards have suffixes that end in a/b/g/n or a/g/n. (the 'a' denotes the 5.0 GHz wlreless frequency). You are going to have to open up the PC and check to see: 1. What the form factor of the current wlan card is (HMC or M.2). 2. Whether or not there are two antennas present. On dual band cards, you need two antennas for both frequencies to get the best reception for both the wireless and bluetooth. If your PC's current wlan card is the HMC form factor, then you can get this Broadcom dual band AC card. I want to upgrade the Wifi Card from the currently disappointing Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi Adapter to the Intel 6230 Wireless N WiFi Bluetooth BT 3.0 Half Size PCI-E Card Dual Band 2.4/5.0 GHz 802.11a/b/g/n. I have heard much about the notrorious 'whitelist'. I have found some documentation: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04438537 but none of the listed compatible cards have 5ghz, bluetooth and ubuntu support. Would this upgrade be possible? SOLUTION:The wifi worked and both antennas were present. The bluetooth, however, did not work until I did the following: I followed the instructions on post# #50 here https://communities.intel.com/thread/31247?start=45&tstart=0 which involved taping pin 51 (the right most pin with the card with antenea ports face up ) and it worked a treat. Apparently this is also possible with software in the HP Connection Manager but apparently it is not supported on windows 10. No driver installs were needed.
Hi: HP removed the BIOS whitelists from their notebooks around 18-24 months ago, so the Intel 6230 card should work just fine. What may be a bigger issue as that many notebooks with the Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi Adapter only have 1 antenna connected to the card, instead of the normal two. I can't tell you which models do, and which ones don't, and the service manual will normally show pictures in the wireless card removal and replacement section of the card always having 2 antennas connected to it. You would have to be willing and able to take the whole notebook apart including the display panel area, to install a second antenna (should one be required). A dual band card won't work right with only one antenna connected to it.Read other 10 answers
Ok so i have a shot in the dark question, I am not sure on what parts are avalable for this laptop. I just picked this up on a trade and so far has been a pretty decent little machine. It has stock 2.4ghz wifi, which i know is pretty standard. My question is, is there a different internal wifi card i can replace the stock on with that will give me access to both 2.4 ghz and 5.0 ghz. I have been considering going the usb adapter route for both wifi bands but would like to keep some usb ports avalable without needing to get a small hub. Any info would be Appreciated! Thanks
Hi: Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03593667 Unfortunately the 3 supported wireless cards listed in chapter 3 are all single band cards. Back when your notebook was produced, HP had a BIOS whitelist which prevents any other wlan card from working other than the ones listed in the service manual.Read other 3 answers

I'm having problems with my pavilion 17-G192DX. when I have the wifi on, it works for about 10 minutes, then basically shuts down my home network - TV locks up, no other computers can access the internet. As soon as I turn the wifi off, everything goes back to normal. HP troubleshooting can find nothing...when the thing is working, that is. I'd like to upgradethe wifi card with a dual band unit? I'm thinking the Intel 7260 2x2. Will that work in this computer? Any other options? P/N is V0Q01UA.
Yes you can install any wireless card of the right form factor which for your laptop is an M.2 adapter. See the Manual here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04655191 The 7260ac is a mini-pcie card and is not compatible but you could MAYBE install an Intel 8260ac card: https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-8260AC-8260NGW-Bluetooth-Wireless/dp/B01ERMBDCK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&q... Start on p. 31 with removal of the back cover and read through p. 39. The hesitation is that, to install a dual band card you must have 2 antennae and on some HP models with lower-end wireless cards there is only one. So if you want to do this I recommend open it first and count antennae. If two, you can install the card linked above, which will perform as well as any wireless card you can buy. I have a laptop INSPIRON E1705 with a WLAN card (p/n DW 1390) installed. I would like to replace it with a WiFi/Bluetooth combo card so I can have Bluetooth capability. What is the recommended card to buy that is compatible with Windows 10?
Given that there will be no antenna inside the system for bluetooth, you're better off with one of these:
I have recently bought a new pci wifi lan card (Ralink rt61 turbo) and have plugged in and installed drivers. Initially the drivers the company I bought it from told me to install didn't work, but after some googling found the correct drivers and downloaded from Ralinks website. However these didn't work either.
When using the Ralink wireless utility it says that the card is disconnected, however in device manage it is both connect and the correct drivers installed and everything is perfectly fine.
I ignored the wireless utility and hoped that windows 7 would still be able to use the wireless card as past experiences have shown to be true. This case however I get nothing. Windows 7 says that the wireless card is experiencing problems, it doesn't show any of the routers that should be shown.
I have been looking around a lot and there have been several drivers that should have worked and they haven't.
I would have thought that the antenna is broken or the card doesn't work however when I use it with ubuntu instead of windows 7 it works perfectly fine without any hassle, so the card is definitely working.
Any advice that anyone can give on how to resolve this would be very welcome.
Have a look at this thread.

So, what i'm trying to do is create a wifi hotspot using my computer. In other words, turning my computer into a router. I'm wanting to do this so i can use my ipod at home instead of only when i'm around other wifi hotspots.
My computer is running off of a wired router, so that i can play online on my PS3 as well. I was told wifi doesn't work well with Ps3's normally so i just bought a wired router. So, the mainline internet cord is plugged into a wired router and then another line runs into my computer.
For some reason, after i make an adhoc connection, the computer is not sending the required information to the iPod so that it connects to the internet.
I've tried entering in the information into the Static tab in my ipod as well, and still only get Local Connection instead of Local and Internet.
This is what my connection looks like through the router using ipconfig /all:

Welcome to Vista Forums!
Unfortunately, it isn't as simple as that. You are connected to the router fine with your computer, but that tells us nothing about the ipod because wireless is off (but that's not the whole story either - you need something extra to do what you want). The following article should tell you what you need and how to do it: How to Connect iPod Touch to Windows 7 Ad-hoc Wireless Network. Although it says Windows 7, there are procedures for Vista as well (and the software will work with Vista).
I hope this helps.

I have just replaced my WiFi card from (BCM943228HMB) to BCM94352HMB. Before replacing my WiFi card i done the following:
1. Made computer boot in safe mode with networking.
After that i replaced the card, then booted into windows 10 (safe mode with networking) and checked device manager. Everything was OK (See attached picture). I then tried to turn on WiFi, but it does not turn on. Any help is appreciated.
Hahaahahaha don't look at the other tab
Why are you booting into safe mode? I would connect a network cable to the wired network port, if possible for you. In regular windows, not safe mode, right click on the 802.11ac network controller and uninstall. Right click on the top device manager entry for the computer itself and select scan for new hardware.Read other 12 answers

do you mean a router
or as part of the laptop spec ?
what router do you have and does it work in dual band simultaneously
the advantage of the 5ghz signal is if you are in a crowded 2.4ghz environment then 5ghz helps avoid interference - also the coverage is wider - although the 5ghz router i have linksys - does not seem to be
if your current router only works in 2.4ghz , then no advantage in the short term
some routers are advertised as dual band - but you have to choose between 2.4 or 5 ghz and so ALL devices will need to support 5ghz

My HP pavilion won't stay connected to the wifi at my bosses house. It worked initially (for about a month) but now it doesn't even find the connection half the time let alone connect to it. If it does manage to connect it drops the signal after a couple of minutes iPads, Macs and iPhones all connect fine, there has never been an issue. It's just the HP. I had a Mac for three years and never had a problem - in fact I've resurrected it to post on here as I can't get on the internet on my HP! It will connect to the network via ethernet but where I work there isn't an ethernet port so that's no good. I'm wondering if there has been a software update that has affected it?How do i check? I was using wifi on my laptop on day, and the next, my laptop said it wasn't connected to wifi. I tried to reconnect but it said "cannot connect to this network". My wifi still works on my roomate's laptop and on my phone. I have tried updating my computer, restarting it, performing a hard restart, using automatic troubleshooting, and updating/reinstalling the driver software. I hadn't installed any new programs onto my laptop before the problems started. I don't know what is causing this.
I have also disabled the Power Off option for the adapter and reset the TCP/IP settings.Read other 2 answers
I have a HP Pavilion dv2000 , AMD processor and the wireless doesn't work. I use Windows 7 but it wasn't working with Windows Vista neither, please help. I have installed the HP Wireless Assistant also, but it doesn't see the wifi
Hi: That is a somewhat common issue with the dv2000/dv600 and dv9000 model series. The motherboard overheats and cuts off power to the mini-PCIe slot that powers your wireless card, or the heat generated by the motherboard burns out the wireless card's network chip. The least costly solution that is guaranteed to work (as long as your USB ports work), is to purchase an external usb wireless adapter. You can try another wireless card by removing yours, getting the part number from it and going on eBay and finding a cheap but tested and working replacement by doing your search by the part number. You should be able to get a used wireless card for $10 or less. However, you need to be prepared to accept the worst...that it is a bad motherboard. PaulRead other 7 answers

hello there, i have recently upgraded my service to 200mbs with a dual band smart router, modem and router capable of 1000mbs, after upgrade i come to find my wifi card only recieves 2.4ghz channel, its pitiful that my cell phone can get 140mbs on 5ghz and my new laptop can only get 100mbs via ethernet and less than 20mbs wireless, i took it to the local computer store and he did not want to touch the machine because this model is extremely hard to get into and i have read that if it only has One antenna i would have to disassemble the display aswell , so i am basically asking several questions, (1) can i upgrade to a card that is 2 x 2 A/b/g/n/AC 867mbs like the intel 7260 or 8260 (2) does this machine have the required 2 antennas so i do not have to take apart the display?. i find it ludacris that this machine came out in 2016 and is not capable of reaching passed 100mbs, i would have never purchsed it, i intend to keep upgrading speed as long as my ISP keeps giving me good deals on service, i pay $60 for 200mbs.....card is realtek RTL8723benf Single band 2.4ghz 100mbs......thank you in advance
@joseph1979 From what I have found unless you have 2 antenna cables you can not use an AC card. Your manual here. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05228250 Look at page 2. You could check to see if you do have 2 antenna cables. When the WiFi button (F12) is pressed the LED show red and a message on-screen briefly says "Flight Mode ON" and the network connection icon in the notification area shows a red X. - this is expected - however When I press F12 the on screen message does breifly display "Flight Mode OFF", but the LED stays orange and WiFi is disbaled. If I click the network icon in the notification area the panel that appears says Flight Mode OFF, WiFi (OFF). I simply cannot re-enable the WiFi with the F12 key. If I go to Computer->Properties->Device Manager, select the Wireless Adapter I can switch the WiFi back on by going to the Advanced tab and selecting Radio->Enable. If I do this the let then goes white and WiFi is OK. So what is going on - why can't I simply toggle the WiFi off and on with the F12 key. Why to I have to resort to the device manager to switch it back on again?
Solved my own problem - if it help others ....the WiFi Driver update dated 25/09/12 caused the problem in my case.Right click on 'Computer' select 'Advanced' and open Device manager. Locate the WiFi Adapter and choose the 'Roll back driver option' to restore the previous driver - worked for me. You think someone would test drivers better than this !!!Read other 9 answers

Hi @DailyGrind, Welcome to HP Forums! I have read your post and wanted to help. I understand that the wireless capability cannot be turned on. There is no drivers released for Windows 10 on the HP support page of your model. It is possible that the WiFi adapter driver is not working well. Please try remove the WiFi driver from Device Manager, and click "Action" on the top of the Windows and select "Scan for Hardware Change" to reinstall the driver.
