Lenovo Y40-70 RAM Upgrade Issues

Q: Lenovo Y40-70 RAM Upgrade Issues

I recently upgraded the RAM from 8gb to 16gb (2x8gb from kingston). To my dismay, Lenovo has proven that I have instead downgraded since my RAM mghz dropped from 1600 to 700, a more than 50% decrease in speed. Since Lenovo has decided I am not tech savvy enough to use the BIOS and has partnered with Insyde to lock us users out of our own product, I am wondering if Lenovo customer/IT support has any idea how to fix this issue. To be clear, the issue is that I am unable to access the BIOS which is what you would normally use to access the hardware in your system. Due to "upgrading" my RAM size, I have inadvertently downgraded my RAM speed. A solution would be nice, since Lenovo believes its clientele to be stupid and locks its clients out of the BIOS.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

First, new to the site and I've been reading up on my issue here to no avail as none of the solutions work or don't apply unforuntely, but here is my issue. I have recently bought the Y700 and bought a Samsung 850 EVO M.2 250 GB drive (model M5E250BW) and have installed inside the laptop. I tested to see if would show under the bios and it did and thought "oh great, this will be easey," but it won't show up under the disk manager or device manager unfortunately. So I am unable to initiaize or format the particular disk. I have called samsung (if it is under bios their product works), windows (if one hard drive shows up then there product is working), and lenovo says they have exhasted all avenues of support and they have no idea... so I'm at a loss. I am about to return the computer and the new drive and just say screw it at this point, so hopefully someone can help me. *New* The lenovo supervisor I had press to get was telling me something about legacy mode or something to that nature as a hint (changing UEFI or etc to Legacy), but refused to tell me more. No idea if that gives any ideas.

Hi, I've recently installed an OCZ Arc 100 SSD into my Z510 laptop via a SATA caddy that replaces the optical drive. The advertised sequential speed of the drive is around 480 MB/s read/write however AS SSD Benchmark is informing me that I am getting just under 250 MB/s in sequential read/write.  Getting precisely SATA II speeds seems like more than a coincidence, however I thought that my Z510 is SATA III compatible. Any ideas on what might be causing my SSD to be capping at SATA II speeds? I really need the drive to perform at full speed as I am using my laptop for (intensive disk streaming) audio production. Thanks,Alastair

A:ThinkCentre: Stuck at Lenovo splash screen after lenovo solution bios upgrade

I would try resetting the BIOS using the jumper, or by taking out the CMOS battery, wait a minute or two, and then replace it and try booting up. See page 73 of the Hardware Maintenance Manaul linked below for location of the Clear CMOS/Recovery jumper (# 20) https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_pdf/m83m93p_hmm.pdf Clearing the CMOS (BIOS)1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer. 2. Remove the computer cover. 3. Locate the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper on the system board. 4. Move the jumper from the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2) to the maintenance position (pin 2 and pin 3). 5. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. 6. Turn on the computer and leave it on for approximately 10 seconds. Then, turn off the computer by holding the power switch for approximately five seconds. 7. Repeat step 1 through step 2. 8. Move the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper back to the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2). 9. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. Good Luck,

I used Lenovo Settings on my Lenovo Yoga 3 11 for the battery conservations mode. So I was forced to install Lenovo Companion since it recently replaced Lenovo Settings.Ever since I did this, I have noticed the following:* Screen brightness keeps changing by itself slightly* Screen contrast keeps changing by itself slightly* Colours look muted and unsaturated, and filtered. Makes the sceen look worse than it should.* trackpad is only ignorred if the tablet mode is fully flat. The slightest opening causes the trackpad and keyboard to become sensitive. All of this irrespective of whether Dynamic Brighness Control is enabled or disabled in Lenvovo Companion hardware settings, and regarless of whether recommended hardware settings are used.Anyone else noticed anything similar? I'll report back after I've uninistalled the app to see whether any of these behaviours disappear.

A:Noticed issues ever since I installed Lenovo Companion (which replaced Lenovo Settings)

So I deactivated "Change brightness autoatically when lighting changes" in Windows Display Settings. This seems to have been the cause of the brightness and contrast changes, but the colours still look blander than I recall. Sorry to suspect Lenovov Companion so quickly, but the changes coincided with it's installation. Admittedly Windows 10 Fall edition just landed too.

Hello! I am new to Lenovo and picked up my 1st laptop yesterday when my HP died. I have always had HP and grew tired of how easy they break & poor battery life, so I wanted to try a different band. I love the computer, the keyboard, track pad & screen are amazing. I bought the ideapad 320-15IAP for about $330 (Including tax) The specs at the store advertised 4.5-5 Hours of battery life, but I have not been able to get a charge better than 2 hours. For someone that uses my laptop at work and on the go, this will not do. Can any one offer up any advice? Does lenovo sell stronger batteries for ideapad that I can replace with this current battery?  My next issue is the Windows 10 update that you are forced to do, I have been trying to install it since 9PM last night, it is now 9PM tonight, a full 24 hours, and it has not fully installed. I have done my fair share of google searches and many people have had these same issues too, but no good solutions outside of deep computer hacking, I don't want to have to do that on a brand new computer. Thanks for any and all help!

I am trying to prep a computer to give to a friend. Last night, I reformatted it using the recovery discs that came with it. It is a Tosh Satellite A105.

Today, I have been finding and installing updates to the system, trying to prepare it for an upgrade to win7, which is no easy task since I have had to go out and find some of the drivers and service pack 3.

I am using the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, and need input on which of these 11 issues really are issues, and which I can skip and just install new once I upgrade.

Adobe issues -- I uninstalled it.

Toshiba Blue Tooth Stack for xp version 4.0 -- I downloaded and installed version 7.0, but have not uninstalled 4.0. It doesn't make sense to my feeble brain why I would have to uninstall 4.0 if I installed 7.0 unless it is because I downloaded the 7.0 instead of upgrading to it?

Here is a list of the rest:
MS .NET Framework 1.1 --I downloaded and installed a later version, so which version do I need to find?

Toshiba ConFigFree -- No clue what this is.

Intel ProSet/Wireless software -- ZeroCfgSvc Application -- No clue

Toshiba Utilities -- I have updated everything available from ms, so is this another one that I have to go find, and if so, what version?

To be uninstalled unless someone suggests otherwise:
Messenger
Realplayer
Realtek HD audio driver
Sonic Record now
Yahoo music engine

Thanks a bunch in advance for any help!

A:XP to windows 7 upgrade incompatibility issues caught by Upgrade Advis

1st, you can't upgrade from XP to Windows 7, you have to do a Clean Install which means boot the DVD and format the drive, so nothing you do to XP will have any effect.

Having said that, you can cheat

See here: Upgrade Install - XP to Windows 7

My recommendation would be to do an image backup of the XP system then do a Clean Install (with format), apply all updates then start restoring your data from the backup. All software will have to be reinstalled, it can't be copied from the backup to Win 7.

Good tutorials here:

3. When using Chrome everything seems to be loading very slowly. For instance, when I click on Google or a new tab and start typing it takes a while to see the text where this didn't happen before.

I know each one of these issues probably belongs in a different section of the forum, but I'm desperate to get them fixed and QUICK, so PLEASE HELP!!!!! I'm pulling my hair out!!!

Ever since I upgraded my laptop to Windows 10, this SoftThinks Agent Service is taxing my HDD to 100% slowing things down.
This is related to Dell Backup and Recovery software. I can kill this service and that's that but every-time I start up, this happens.
As for sleep mode, I will come back to my laptop and raise the lid, hit the keys, move the mouse, nothing. I hit the power button and nothing. So I hold the power button and then hit it to boot up, so clearly there are issues in relation to sleep mode and something shutting it off. (others have posted the same)
I installed all newest Intel drivers on your site and I read 1 user stated to uninstall Intel Rapid Storage, which I did. Intel Management Engine remains as I am still trying to troubleshoot. Are you testing all these new drivers you are putting out for download? Do I need to go back to Win8.1, your site said my laptop could be upgraded.
Please advise and "do the needful".

A:Inspiron 3542 - Win10 upgrade issues - SoftThinks Agent Service utilizing 100% HDD & sleep mode/power issues

same thing here as far as the power issues. you must remove the 2 other intel things that were installed along with the Intel rapid storage
intel security assist
intel management engine something or other (cant remember the exact name)
i still have the intel graphics and chipset drivers installed without any problems. it was just the intel rapid storage stuff that caused all the power , sleep mode problems..

Hi Robinburn,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

As per specifications, you can upgrade the RAM :
16GB max / PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3L, non-parity, dual-channel capable, two 204-pin SO-DIMM sockets

The graphic chip however is not upgradable since it is soldered on the motherboard.

Looking at the minimum specs of PUBG:
OS: 64-bit Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10Processor: Intel Core i3-4340 / AMD FX-6300Memory: 6 GB RAMGraphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 2GB / AMD Radeon HD 7850 2GBDirectX: Version 11Network: Broadband Internet connectionStorage: 30 GB available space

It would be best to invest on a gaming laptop or better yet a desktop to enjoy the game.

Hope this help answer your query.

A:Lenovo g50-45 ram upgrade

hi mislam13,

Welcome to the Forums.

If you have the G50-45 (Beema) then an 8Gb upgrade will be ok as this system comes with 2 SODIMM slots and the max memory can be up to 16GB DDR3L.(1.35v).

Lenovo G40/50 AMD Specs

In addition, your system is likely configured with 4GB+2GB so you just have to change the 2GB with a 4GB to pump it up to 8GB (you can verify this by looking under the hood).

Hi Heron1337,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Your G50-80 can support more than current 4GB up to maximum of 16GB.
Adding similar 4GB PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3L, non-parity, on the two 204-pin SO-DIMM sockets would allow you to have dual-channel capabilities for faster rate interaction.

Your DDR3L Kingston 4GB (1600) (KVR16LS11/4)1.35V  is an exact upgrade for your pc.

System Specification for RAM upgrade  (location page 37)

16GB max / PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3L, non-parity, dual-channel capable, two 204-pin SO-DIMM sockets  .

You can maximize it up to total 16 GB  (2 X 8GB) similar to this.

On related threads
recommended lenovo part number :
Part number of RAM: 11202707, 11202080 (8GB RAM), 11202125, 11202081, 11202706 (4GB RAM).

Hi Alex_Bond,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It would be helpful if you have the specific machine number from the sticker or to check the MTM machine model type here on the parts look up page.

As per specifications from the hardware manual page 26-28:
RAM: DDR3L, 1066MT/s,1333MT/s
Standard memory: DDR3L, SODIMM 1 / SODIMM 2 (max 8 GB / 16 GB)

Product specification for G50 models:
N2830 / N3530 models: 8GB max / PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3L, non-parity, one 204-pin SO-DIMM socket, system automatically clocks down for 1333MHz DDR3 memory controller
Other models: 16GB max / PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3L, non-parity, dual-channel capable, two 204-pin SO-DIMM sockets

Recommended RAM listed on FRU on item 12 page 80 of the hardware manual.
Those are OEM certified RAM that you can order as Micron DDR3L (low voltage) 1600 may also work as it matches base specification as Part number 11201304, MT16KTF1G64HZ listed among the FRU.

Hope this help answer your query.

You can refer to Z50-70 hardware maintenance manual for tested brand, basically the max RAM supported is 2x8 GB PC3-12800 (DDR3-1600) and to enable dual channel, be sure to use the same brand and chipset for both modules or just get a sold "matched-pair" or 16GB-2x8GB bundled modules.

I was wondering if I could upgrade my H50-50 intel core i5-4460,8gb ram and GTX 745 with the new GTX 1050ti?I'm not sure because the 1050ti is a dual slot card.Nvidia says that the recommended power supply is a 300w,which I have on this PC.

A:Could i upgrade my Lenovo H50-50 with the new GTX ...

It would probably have to be a short (mini) version of the card like the one linked below, in order to fit in the case, but the mini will definitely fit.         Your system probably just has a 280w PSU, but if Nvidia says a 300w PSU is all that is needed, you can probably get away with the stock 280w PSU.     You can also upgrade the PSU if needed, but you would need a 24pin to 14pin power adapter to adapt the standard PSU to the Lenovo motherboard. EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GAMING, 04G-P4-6251-KR, 4GB GDDR5, DX12 OSD Support (PXOC)http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487290&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KN... The videos below are by a kid in the UK who upgraded a H50-50 with a different GPU and also a new PSU, but he does a very good job of showing what needs to be done to do so.    UPGRADING MY LENOVO H50 PSU/GPU 500W+GTX750TI (part 1)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BScjAJ7YuWM UPGRADING MY LENOVO H50 (GTX750TI+ 500W PSU) BETTER QUALITY (part 2)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2PU-Uitz0Y Good Luck,

Hi. My Z50-70 laptop has Samsung DDR3 PC-3 12800 (800mhz) ram. I'm not able to find this ram anywhere on the web. Also, I'm seeing DDR3L PC-3 12800 (1600mhz) rams available. Are these compatible to my laptop? How to check the compatibility of rams? I have also checked the hardware manual but nothing is there regarding the suggesting rams. Is it possible that a laptop can handle a ram with a higher frequency? (in my case 1600 mhz ) The laptop's motherboard is Lancer 5a5.  Please help me out.

A:Lenovo Z50-70 Ram upgrade

Your memory spec is:PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3L If you see 800 MHZ in CPU-Z, multiply by 2 to get the transfer rate. Memory is 2 sided. Sample memory:http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for//lenovo-z50-70 HMM, page 80, item 12 has Lenovo OEM memory part numbers:https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/lenovo_g_z_50_series_hmm.pdf

I'm looking to upgrade RAM from 4GB to 8GB. The stock one is Samsung. I bought the RAM for the laptop and insert it. Now it is showing total memory 8192MB in boot. But turning on the system takes more time than usual and in System information the RAM was showing  8192 MB total but 3.46Gb usable. And in task manager it was showing 4.5GB reserved for hardware use. The manufacturer is Crucial. What I have done wrong? And please post some RAM links from flipkart or amazon.

Hi Manojkumargiri,

Welcome to the Forums

As per the query we understood that you are looking for the RAM upgrade for your Lenovo G50-45 laptop.

As per the specification of the system this model has 2 SODIMM slots, try to swap the RAM and check. This is to verify if the RAM slot is faulty. Also try to reseat the RAM and check for the issue.

Hope this helps. Do post back if the issue persists!

Best regards,

Hello, I bought this laptop a year and 2 months ago and have set my sites on spending money on a capable gaming desktop setup. Recently, I have given it some thought to upgrading my current laptop to enhance my gaming experience. I was wondering, is it worth putting money into my current laptop or save up for my desktop. I don't plan on buying the desktop until a couple years (2-4 years to be exact) from now. I'm sure this question depends on my financial situation for the most part, but I just want to make sure my laptop specs are good enough and will last until I start working on getting a desktop. Specs:Graphics card - Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 / NVIDA GeForce GTX 960M (Why exactly do I have 2?)Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4720HQ CPU @2.6GHz8GB ramHard Drive - Model WDC WD10S21X-24R1BT0-SSHD-8GBThank you!

Hi,My g50-80 (80E502ULIN) laptop config is 4Gb-1Tb-i3. I want to upgrade my RAM from 4gb to 8gb. Please tell me whether it is possible. what is the maximum that I can upgrade it to?

A:Lenovo G50-80 RAM upgrade

The memory needs to be DDR3L 1600 (low power) and should be in matching pairs for best performance.Your notebook supports upto 8gb per stick (2 total) for upto 16gb of memory. The access and upgrade procedures are outlined in the maintenance manual.https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/lenovo_g_z_50_series_hmm.pdfGood luck.CB

Hi,I wanted to upgrade my RAM in Lenovo G50-80 from 8GB(2x4) to 12GB(1x4 and 1x8). Since in my laptop I had Elixir SODIMM 4GB, DDR3, 1600Mhz (M2S4G64CC88D5N-DI), I decided to buy another one from the same brand, which is Elixir SODIMM 8GB, DDR3 1600Mhz (M2S8G64CB8HB5N-DI). The problem here is that my laptop does not see this memory stick. Wherever I check (f.e. BIOS) it says I have only 4GB RAM. In specs it is said that for my laptop it is possible to have max 16GB (2x8) RAM, so I do not know where am I doing a mistake. I even tried to change slots for both sticks, but nothing happens, so It is not problem with slot.Am i forgetting something? Should I do something more here to make my new stick working? Thanks,

Hello! I have a Lenovo G50 80 80E501U3US with i55200u CPU @ 2.20 GHZ, Intel HD Graphics 5500, and a 4GB stick and a 2GB stick of 1600MHz RAM for a 6GB total. I'm interested in buying an 8GB stick of RAM to replace my 2GB stick. I looked at the list of compatable sticks and am thinking of purching this one (https://www.amazon.com/Memory-SO-DIMM-PC3L-12800S-1600MHz-HMT41GS6AFR8A-PB/dp/B00N46M5D2) here from Amazon.  My question is would it work to take my 2GB stick out and replace it with this one to have 12GB of RAM? Is that ok if they're different sizes as long as they're both 1600MHz? I'm also not sure the manufacturer of my current RAM or if that matters. Thanks!

Hi, can I upgrade the RAM and CPU for a g50-80(Model: 80E502G3GM/ i5-5200U/4GB/1TB/HD 5500)?

A:Lenovo G50-80 upgrade

Hi publicorders ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

In term of the RAM upgrade based on your product specifications:
16GB max / PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3L, non-parity, dual-channel capable, two 204-pin SO-DIMM sockets
So that you can maximize it (2 x 8GB) or simply get another similar 4 GB for 8GB sweet spot.

Recommended OEM parts on FRU listing item 12 page 80 of the hardware manual.

WIth regards to the CPU upgrade is not posible as it is soldered on the systemboard as BGA (ball grid array) similar to i5-5200U.

Hope this help answer your query.

Regards
